What I meant and actually gave example of was that "THAT" cannot follow a sentence starting with "YOU" if it does it would be considered incorrect in English.

It is the direct translation of the broken English we speak here in Nigeria to correct English which is still wrong.

I will use your example. If I want to translate " YOU WEY NO FIT SPEND 1kobo" directly to English it would sound like this " YOU THAT CANNOT SPEND 1KOBO" which a still wrong.

The correct English translation would be " YOU CANNOT EVEN SPEND 1KOBO"


But if you quote or show me where "THAT" follows "YOU" when the "YOU" begins the sentence in any English book, I will concede. Thanks.

I ask you again, use ARE in the original sentence and see why it is wrong. You can't remove some of the sentence and apply your correction. That's being clever by half.

Insert your ARE in the original sentence and read it. It would tell you that your correction was/is also a blunder, Mr GrammarChecker


Again using the word "THAT" after you in that sentence makes it broken English. Its like directly translating broken English to correct English word for word.

If you really understand grammar you won't come with this lame explanation. Using ARE in the context the sentence was written is wrong.

The sentence was a mixture of broken and correct English hence the IS used was correct. You trying to remove a part of the sentence to justify your blunder is really lame and makes the sentence something different entirely because the "that didn't spend 1 kobo" described or qualified the YOU in the sentence

" You that didn't spend 1 kobo" is broken english, hence the use of IS instead of ARE as you want us to believe.

"You" is singular so IS is correct in the context of that sentence.
