Arik Air has debunked claims by a section of the media that a woman gave birth on board its flight from Lagos. A statement by Arik on Monday explained that contrary to claims that the pregnant woman gave birth aboard the flight on Sunday, the woman only suffered a miscarriage. The statement signed by Arik’s Public Relations and Communications Manager, Mr. Adebanji Ola, also stated that the woman in question was 12 weeks pregnant. The statement said, “The Arik Air flight W3 101 which departed Lagos for London Heathrow on Sunday, diverted to Palma Mallorca Airport, Spain at 5:44pm due to urgent medical attention for a 12-week pregnant woman on board. “The passenger reportedly developed severe pain during the course of the flight. The pain was later coupled with bleeding with a suspected miscarriage. “The passenger, who was initially attended to by two medical doctors on board the flight, was 12 weeks pregnant. She was later transferred to a hospital in Mallorca for further medical attention. This is contrary to a report in some papers to the effect that a woman gave birth on board Arik flight to London.” The statement added that the flight later departed Mallorca at 8pm for London Heathrow. The statement explained that the pregnant woman did not indicate her pregnancy status to the airline’s Passenger Service Agents at check-in and because her pregnancy was 12 weeks, the team didn’t notice her status. Iran launched its first indigenous satellite Omid (Hope) (shown) into space in 2009. Deputy Head of Iran Space Agency (ISA) Hamid Fazeli says the Islamic Republic plans to send second living creature into space in the near future. Fazeli said Saturday that the living organism would be sent to space on board a liquid-fuel carrier within the next 45 days. Iran managed to successfully send a living creature into space on a solid-liquid carrier and return it to earth safely, said the official, adding that the second sending of a living creature into space would be carried out on a liquid-fuel carrier which has less acceleration but more accuracy. Fazeli also said that Iran plans to launch Tadbir (Prudence), Sharifsat and Nahid satellites into orbit by the end of the current Iranian year (ending March 20, 2014). Iran sent a monkey into space aboard an indigenous bio-capsule code-named Pishgam (Pioneer) in January 2013. The country successfully launched its first indigenous data-processing satellite, Omid (Hope), into orbit in 2009. As part of a plan to develop its space program, Iran also successfully launched its second satellite, dubbed Rassad (Observation), into the earth's orbit in June 2011. Rassad's mission was to take images of the earth and transmit them along with telemetry information to ground stations. Iran also launched its domestically-built Navid-e Elm-o Sanat (Harbinger of Science and Industry) satellite into orbit in February 2012. The records made by the telecom, measurement and scientific satellite could be used in a wide range of fields. The Islamic Republic is one of the 24 founding members of the United Nations' Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space which was set up in 1959. The Christian Association has asked El-Rufai to go for a Psychiatric test. This is in response to the interview the former minister granted Saturday Sun dated 14th September where he called the CAN president a bigot and a pretender. El-Rufai said: "The CAN president is not a religious leader. He is a religious pretender. From the statements he has made, he is a bigot. He is an ethnic irredentist and no one should take him serious. It is sad that such a person is the head of CAN. He can say whatever he wants to say but we know who he is working for, we know who gave him his private jet. so why should we worry about someone like that. He has zero credibility". See CAN's response to El-Rufai's comments after the cut... In a statement signed by Rev Emmanuel Dziggau and Elder Sunday Oibe, CAN said "The fact that he can abuse Jesus Christ in his tweets and Christians ignored him does not give him the impetus to make unguarded comments about Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, who is the leader of the Christians in Nigeria" They also noted that Christians respect other faiths and have never abused the Sultan of Sokoto or the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar 111 who is the leader of the Muslims in Nigeria. 1. Plan Your Meals Together And Split Up The Work Cooking at home is one of the simple joys of a relationship. It also saves money and is healthier than eating out. Take meal preparation to the next level by sharing the work as a couple. Planning your meals is a big upgrade to your quality of life. Deciding at the start of the week what you’ll be eating for the next few nights makes shopping and meal-planning a breeze. After that, divvy up the work — one of you can do the shopping while the other handles the cooking. If you’re both game, you can swap roles the next week.a 2. Use Your Holidays To Make New Memories Holiday time is often a period of deep relaxation while spending time with loved ones. But you can benefit yourself and your relationship by having a plan to get the most out of your holidays. Rather than spending the time deciding what to do, have a plan for the holiday together. Even better, come up with — or look up online — some fun holiday traditions you can introduce. No matter how small or silly an idea may seem, once it’s happened two or three times in a row, it will become a tradition and something you look forward to each year. 3. Make Plans Planning is at the core of all self-improvement. Most self-improvement is, after all, planning — deciding on a plan to get yourself from where you are to where you want to be. Learning the skill of planning and making planning a part of your life is key to improving oneself: moving out of the passive, reactive state, and making decisions about your future and how to get yourself there. So, start planning. Plan your weekend, plan for next year, plan for the future, plan for your life. And bring your partner in at every step you can. The more you work out ideas for what’s next for both of you, the better you spend the most precious resource you have as a couple: time. 4. Self-Disclose At A Steady Rate Never sharing is a flaw some guys are prone to and it can kill the potential intimacy of a serious relationship. The “strong silent type” is good as far as it goes, but it’s going to kill the attraction if you never share anything. But, taking it to the opposite extreme and over sharing is equally bad. These are the guys who are desperate for somebody, anybody to take an interest in them or their past. You’ve been on the receiving end of this before, so you know it can get awkward in a hurry. Aim for the middle ground, men. Work on doling out personal information at a steady rate. This builds intimacy without chasing the other person off or making them uncomfortable. 4. Ask For What You Need And Want Getting your needs met in a relationship is often a matter of asking for what’s important to you. If you find yourself getting frustrated by the lack of something in the relationship, take a moment to think if you’ve ever told your partner it’s important. If not, do it now. A little assertiveness is never a bad thing, and a quality partner is going to want to meet your needs in a way that works for everyone. If you’ve ever wished your significant other came with an instruction manual, odds are she feels the same way. Open up about what matters. 5. Make Lists Of Mutual Goals Having goals is important, but just having them isn’t enough. Successful people will tell you there’s something special about writing your goals down on paper. Having a list somewhere of what you’re striving for is a powerful reminder as you go about your day. That driving energy can make a big difference in what you accomplish and your partner will feel the difference in you. Think about it: Would you want to be with somebody without any direction or drive, or do you want a partner who’s trying to improve themselves and their circumstances? Just like a lot of things, great sex and how to achieve it changes often. The sex rules of a decade ago is unlikely to work now. Check out a few outdated sex tips below and how you can be a better lover. OLD RULE: If She Likes It, Keep Doing It NEW RULE: Never Stop Experimenting Her body's sensitivity changes as her arousal level rises. Experiment and retrace your steps, so that instead of becoming fixated on one point, you visit a series of sensitive points regularly. Set up simple codes she can use: "up" or "down" for where to move your hand, for example. Or ask her, "How's this feel, one to 10?" then vary the pressure. OLD RULE: Fantasy is for the Lonely NEW RULE: She Needs the Distraction During sex, men focus on the oncoming climax. Women's minds wander, often into fantasy. To reach orgasm, she needs to clear her head and turn off her brain's fear center. Fantasy is a way for her to disconnect her mind, and it becomes an important part of deactivating her fear center. Encourage her release by constructing an erotic fantasy before things heat up. Then, you can whisper provocative sentences to each other in turn, building a story she can get lost in. OLD RULE: Control the Pace NEW RULE: Let Her Take Over In almost every culture's history, the man takes the lead in sex. But that's a patriarchal hang-up. Let her control the pace and intensity (either initially or totally, depending on the mood), so that you both know what's best for her. The more fun she has, the better for you. Encourage her to be on top: It allows her to take advantage of a full range of positions—facing you, facing away, even sitting cross-legged on you. OLD RULE: Erotic Spots are Predictable NEW RULE: Different Touches Bring Different Results Her clitoris, vagina, and urethra are interconnected, and researchers believe that stimulating any one of them may contribute to overall arousal. Branch out and tease what some call the U-spot—an area between her clitoris and vagina, located near the entrance to her urethra. Use soft, circular motions with your finger. Urethral nerves are very sensitive, so stimulation here creates a particular kind of arousal—a soft, melting form of climax. Make sure your hands are clean, though—the area is infection-prone. It is sad but true that former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Agagu is dead. Agagu, who had returned from the US on Thursday, reportedly slumped in Ikoyi, where he was having a meeting with Ondo indigenes, on Friday evening. Agagu’s former Chief Press Secretary, Yemi Olowolabi, said the former governor was not sick and had just returned from a 20-day trip abroad. "They were having a meeting with Ondo State people. Alex Akinyele was there. He slumped. It is shocking, devastating. We will all miss him. I can’t believe he will just die.” Said former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, who described Agagu’s death as shocking. Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, described the death of his predecessor as shocking, adding that Ondo has lost a colossus, whose vacuum would be difficult to fill. Mimiko said, “He would be remembered as a consummate politician and lecturer, who imparted knowledge to many people across the world.” Reacting to the sad new, a member of PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, said: “This is tragic news. I’m shattered. He never held grudges.” It was gathered that he ate lunch at home in Ikoyi before heading for a meeting on Lagos mainland, where he slumped. National chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, has said that Governor Rochas Okorocah of Imo State was suspended from the party for dragging the party to the newly registered All Progressives Congress (APC). “For some months now, the news had been that APGA had been part of this merger discussion and we went into a meeting to clear this wrong impression so that Nigerians will know that APGA was at no time involved in those discussions, but you will recall that the Governor Rochas Okorocha has been at the forefront of the merger talks. "He initially said he was there on his own and because he is a governor, we could not rein him in at the time, and we were very patient to see if this thing will clear out." Umeh, who spoke in Abuja with other APGA national leaders, said that at no point was the party interested in APC, which was formed by ACN, ANPP, CPC and a faction of APGA led by Okorocha. Umeh said that, "We are aware that on Wednesday, INEC registered APC and announced that three parties merged to form the All Progressives Congress and proceeded to withdraw the certificates of the three parties: ANPP, CPC and ACN. "But starting from Thursday, people in APC started placing advertorials in the newspapers rejoicing over the new party. In each of the advertorials, they always exerted APGA logo as part of the parties that merged. We considered this to be very mischievous and unacceptable. For two days now, on Thursday the governor of Lagos State placed advertorials in four national dailies that we could see with APGA logo conspicuously present there. Yesterday (on Friday), the Governor of Nasarawa State followed suit by placing an advertorial again with APGA logo." Umeh insisted that the decision to suspend Governor Okorocha is “to cut off the branch from where APC is infiltrating the rank of APGA But in his reaction last night, Okorocha said he joined APC “in the interest of Ndigbo”. Below is a letter written by Nigerians living in Kenya highlighting the harassment they face in the hands of police. The harassment has taken a xenophobic dimension, Just 2 days ago a Nigerian with Valid passport and entry Visa to Kenya was stopped by plain clothes policemen, when they requested for his passport, he promptly presented it to them. The passport was immediately seized and he was asked to to leave Kenya, as Nigerians only come to Kenya to take their woman, he resisted and insisted that he committed no offense, he was immediately attacked and beaten to a pulp and he was bleeding profusely. more pictures and gists @ http://naija-infohotspot..com/2013/07/nigerians-in-kenya-protest-police.html#more |
There are indications that the on-going strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities might be called off next Thursday. Governor of Benue State, Mr Gabriel Suswam who dropped this hint Friday said ASUU and the Federal Government had reached agreements on all the contentious issues that led to the industrial action except two. Suswam who was appointed as Chairman of the Needs Assessment Implementation Committee of the Federal Government said after next Thursday's deliberations between his Committee and the various agencies of government funding tertiary education, all the contentious issues would likely be resolved. Speaking to news men in Abuja after attending a meeting between the Federal Government's delegation and ASUU, Suswam said that agreements had been reached by both parties on all issues except two. Said he: "We reached agreements on all issues except two. These two issues are those of earned allowances of lecturers and intervention for the federal universities. These are the only issues that are still outstanding." The Benue Governor further said he believed that by next week after his Committee would have arrived at an agreement on all the issues, ASUU would call off the strike. He continued: "The SGF would meet with the leadership of ASUU on the issue of earned allowances by next Monday. Then my committee which is dealing with the issue of the needs assessment of the universities would meet again next Thursday and take another look at all the infrastructural deficits which the federal universities are facing. If you go to our universities, you would agree that they are facing infrastructural deficits and that is why my committee would meet with all the funding agencies next Thursday for the purpose of prioritizing all the projects that need to be executed. We are going to invite all the agencies that are involved in the funding of the universities including the Central Bank of Nigeria." Suswam further stated that the issues on agreements have been reached include: those of retirement age for university lecturers- which has now been increased from 65 to 70 years; the constitution of the governing councils of the universities which has already been done by the Government; the setting up of a pension administrator and the issue of persuading companies operating in the country to set up research centers in the universities. Said he: "As far as I am concerned, if the issues concerning intervention and earned allowances are resolved next week, then the strike could be called off" Among those who attended the meeting were Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Minister of Labour, Hon. Emeka Wogu, Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayatu Rufai and President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Nasir Fagge. updates @ http://naija-infohotspot..com |

A 25-year old has shocked residents of Udamai village in Siaya County after he clobbered his 91 year- old granny to death over a Bible. Ayub Omondi Agunda was seated under a tree reading the Bible when his grandson Samuel Ochieng Owino attacked him. Witnesses said that two differed on who should have the Bible. The octogenarian had requested his grandson to let him have it first but the stubborn man insisted on having it then. A heated argument ensued after the grandfather refused to surrender the Bible. Ochieng took the walking stick his grandfather used and clobbered him seriously rendering him unconscious. While confirming the incident Siaya OCPD Stephen Cheteka said that neighbours rushed to the aging granny's aid and rushed him to hospital with serious injuries all over his body. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Rwambwa Health Center. His body was taken to Ukwala health center's mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination. Cheteka added that the grandson was in custody and will be charged in court with murder http://naija-infohotspot..com/2013/06/bizarre-man-kills-grandfather-over-bible.html |
The Mexican army has freed 165 migrants, mostly from Central America, who said they were kidnapped and held for several weeks by a criminal group in northern Mexico, authorities said Thursday. The freed migrants, which included 20 who were minors, were seized in the northern state of Tamaulipas as they were trying to cross into the United States, a government statement said. Acting on a tip, the army found the group being held at gunpoint in “precarious, unhealthy and overcrowded conditions” in a property in the municipality of Gustavo Diaz Ordaz on the border with the United States. A man guarding the migrants was arrested during the raid and others were being sought, Eduardo Sanchez, an interior ministry official, said in the statement. Among those freed were 77 Salvadorans, 50 Guatemalans, 23 Hondurans and an Indian national, Sanchez said. The National Human Rights Commission estimated in a 2011 report that some 20,000 migrants are kidnapped every year in Mexico, where they are held for ransoms of more than $2,000 paid by family members in the United States. In 2010, 72 migrants were found massacred in a ranch apparently owned by the Los Zetas drug cartel in Tamaulipas. source; http://naija-infohotspot..com/2013/06/165-migrants-freed-from-kidnappers-in.html#more |
