PoliticsWhat Will Happen If Jonathan Decides To Re-contest? by hopilo(op): 11:31pm On Sep 06, 2013
Elder statesman Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has said that nothing will happen to Nigeria if President Goodluck Jonathan decides to run for the 2015 election.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP in Kaduna, Yakasai declared that the clamour for a president from the northern extraction is not a “do or die affair.”
RomanceBlind Man To Blind Friend: You Snatched My Wife by hopilo(op): 11:16pm On Sep 06, 2013
A blind man, Mr Shaibu Ibrahim, 56, of Aso Pada in Mararaba, Nasarawa State on Thursday told a Grade 1 Area Court in Mararaba that his friend, Shehu Sarki, 62, allegedly enticed his wife with money and seduced her.

In his testimony to the court, Ibrahim said that he became friends with the accused some time last year when the accused assisted him to secure accommodation at Gwagalape, near Nyanya in the FCT.

“He enticed my wife with money because he is rich.

“He took advantage of a little misunderstanding I had with my wife over N1,000.

“He was my very good friend. When he intervened, I thought he was concerned for me. I did not know that he had other evil plans,”

Ibrahim told the court that the accused was the one who instigated his wife against him.

“When I could not provide the N1000 daily savings to secure a house, he took my wife and gave her another room in his compound.

“Each time I go to see her or sit on her bed, she will send me out and say she has no business with me and that she has gotten herself a real husband now.

“The accused began threatening me. He even told me that he has the money power to take my wife and marry her.”

Ibrahim alleged that his wife through Sarki’s influence, has offered to pay him back the N19,000 he paid as dowry on her.

After hearing Ibrahim’s testimony, the presiding judge, Mr Albert Maga, adjourned the case till 16 September for defence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that on 27 August, Ibrahim dragged Sarki, his friend and Chairman of the Blind Peoples’ Association in Aso Pada to court for allegedly enticing his wife, Lami, 23.

On the same date, Ibrahim told the court that the accused was the one who introduced him to Lami amd later enticed her and took her away from him.

Christianity Etc"I’m A Member Of Your Church" - Prostitute Tells A Pastor Who Picked Her by hopilo(op): 11:36am On Sep 05, 2013
A preacher with an evangelical church in Kenya’s Nakuru County was shocked when a prostitute he picked up for sex told him she was a member of his congregation.
The preacher, 56, picked the woman along Club Road, Nakuru at around midnight last Friday before driving off with her in his car.

The preacher, who was disgraced in 2000 after his contact with someone’s wife was exposed, picked her up seeking a date, a common euphemism among prostitutes for sexual contacts.

“For sex, I mean that’s why he picked me, that’s what I do, I’m a prostitute,” she said.

The woman said after they ‘transacted business’ in his posh car she revealed to him that she was a member of his church and he was shaken and pleaded with her not to expose him to other members of the church.

The lady of the night said she got an extra Sh20,000 up from the Sh500 so as to keep her mouth shut.

In 2000, the preacher was disgraced after he was found in a compromising position with the wife of a member of his congregation.

The incident then led to a walkout by some pastors in his church. The prostitute said the preacher was a regular customer and normally conducts the ‘business’ in his car

President Goodluck Jonathan

¨
President Goodluck Jonathan has maintained a dignifying rating in the assessment of most Nigerians, despite the unresolved internal crises that have engulfed his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as revealed by an independent poll agent, NOI Polls Limited.

The poll indicated that despite the slight decline in the number of Nigerians that have experienced some improvements in the power supply in August, the president’s approval rating continued to soar, particularly in the South-east (76 per cent), North Central (70 per cent) and South-south (66 per cent) regions. These were some of the key findings from the Governance Snap poll conducted in the week of August 26.

According to the latest monthly governance poll result released by NOI Polls and made available to THISDAY, six in every 10 (57 per cent) Nigerians approved of President Jonathan’s job performance in the month of August.
The current score depicts a four-point increase in the job approval rating of the president from an earlier poll result in July (53 per cent) to August (57 per cent) and also marks the highest approval rating the president had scored since January 2013.

Furthermore, just as in July, the results indicated that 42 per cent of Nigerians rated the performance of the current administration as average. However, there was a slight decline (two points) in the proportion of Nigerians (36 per cent) that had experienced some improvements in the power supply in August.
The results presented were the eighth in the monthly series of governance polls conducted by NOI Polls to gauge the opinions and perceptions of Nigerians regarding three crucial elements – the approval rating of the president, the performance of the current administration, and the situation of power supply in the country.

“A general assessment of the president’s rating in an eight-month series showed that the approval rating of the president’s performance initially experienced an increase from January (50 per cent) to February (54 per cent), and then experienced a continuous decline from February to April (42 per cent).

“Afterwards, it increased in May (44 per cent) and was stable in June and has experienced a continuous increase in three months from June (44 per cent) to August (57 per cent); the highest rating so far in 2013. Figure 1 shows the eight month trend. Findings from the current poll have also revealed that the President’s performance rating reached its peak in eight months at 57 per cent.

“This figure depicts a four-point increase in the approval rating of the president’s performance from July (53 per cent) to August (57 per cent). Also, 42 per cent of respondents were of the opinion that the administration performed averagely.

“Perhaps media reports around heightened security and reported death of Abubakar Shekau, the strides in railway transportation and commencement of rail haulage from Lagos to Kano, as well as the formal opening of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the maiden flight of Ethiopian Airlines, which would serve as a major economic booster, may have endeared respondents; particularly in the South-east region where the president had the highest job approval rating of 76 per cent.

The findings were based on a poll conducted in the last week of August 26, this year by NOI Polls Limited, using a sample of 1,004 phone-owning Nigerian adults, aged 18 years and above representing the six geopolitical zones.
The poll agent said these Nigerians were interviewed by telephone using randomly generated numbers.

Rooney, Moyes and Co paint the town red as United embark on team bonding session after just two game
Manchester United's 4-1 win at Swansea on Saturday suggests the team don't need a bonding session just yet.

But David Moyes' men still took to the city on Tuesday night for a team meal, and what an excuse it was to bring their wives and girlfriends out for all to see.

With speculation rife surrounding his future at the club, striker Wayne Rooney turned up with wife Coleen, giving no clues about his future at the club.

On the town: Johnny Evans arrives with his wife Helen McConnell (left), while Nemanja Vidic walks in with wife Ana Ivanovic on Deansgate in Manchester

Rooney joined Moyes along with team-mates including Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Danny Welbeck, Wilfried Zaha and Tom Cleverley on Deansgate in Manchester city centre.

As the Premier League stars walked to meet their fellow United players, centre back Ferdinand was stopped by passers by, and even posed for a photo.

Chelsea boss Mourinho has already had two bids for Rooney rejected, but insisted his pursuit of the England man would not end.

Earlier on Tuesday, he said: 'When you think that you’d like to have one player and the market is open and the official bids are not forbidden, official bids are always accepted in an ethical way, you try because nobody forbids you to try.

Side by side: Robin and Bouchra van Persie (left) arrive along with Ryan and Stacey Giggs (right)

'Of course the players’ owners can do exactly what we did with David Luiz and Barcelona. It’s simple.

'We do have a plan B and C, but I won't name names as it is difficult for me to talk about other club's players.'

Moyes also turned up in Deansgate in Manchester looking relaxed, despite his former club Everton being unhappy with his bids for star players Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez said: ‘It was all a bit of a waste of time — time I don’t want the players to waste. The situation is clear.

‘I’m not a big believer in having the transfer window open when the games are starting. I won’t keep talking about speculation. Our fans will be the first to know if there are any players coming in or going out.’
