A major anti-narcotics operation has shaken Mombasa following the arrest of a Nigerian suspect believed to be part of a wider heroin trafficking syndicate operating along Kenya’s Coast.
Detectives drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) apprehended Okwara Chimezie Emmanuel during an intelligence-led raid in the Mafisini area of Kadzandani. Authorities say the operation led to the recovery of heroin with an estimated street value of Sh30 million, marking one of the most significant recent drug seizures in the region.
Sources close to the investigation indicate that the suspect could be a key link in a broader network involving multiple actors, including Kenyan nationals suspected of facilitating storage, transportation and distribution of the наркотics.
Detectives have since launched a series of follow-up operations, with additional arrests expected as they move to dismantle the syndicate.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court, where investigators will seek more time to complete inquiries and trace the origin and supply chain of the seized drugs.
The latest arrest underscores ongoing concerns about the Coast’s vulnerability to international drug cartels exploiting the Indian Ocean corridor. Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers have in recent months intensified operations in the region amid a surge in narcotics-related cases.
Security agencies say the renewed crackdown targets not only traffickers but also financiers and transnational networks accused of fueling drug abuse and organized crime in the country.
Analysts warn that heroin trafficking continues to pose a serious national security threat, contributing to addiction, violence, money laundering and corruption.
With one suspect now in custody and investigations widening, authorities signal that more arrests are imminent as efforts intensify to break the grip of drug cartels along the Coast. https://kahawatungu.com/sh30-million-heroin-seized-nigerian-suspect-arrested-in-mombasa-crackdown/?amp=1

Mahendergarh police have busted a drug syndicate and arrested 11 accused, including a Nigerian national, in a 10-day anti-narcotics drive.
The operation led to the registration of four FIRs and seizure of 33 grams of heroin (‘chitta'), 63 grams of ganja, and 220 intoxicant capsules, along with cash suspected to be drug proceeds.
Police said the crackdown began on March 13 with the arrest of an alleged peddler, Dinesh from Takht Bawri, who was found in possession of 19 grams of smack and Rs 13,900. Further investigation helped trace the supply chain, leading to the arrest of intermediaries Himanshu, Vinod and Rinku.
The key breakthrough came on March 31 with the arrest of a Nigerian national, Ikechukwu. He is a resident of Anambra in south Nigeria.
Police seized Rs 18,500, a scooty and counterfeit "toy notes" worth Rs 32,300 from him. His visa credentials are being verified, and his links to a wider network in the NCR are under probe.
Most of the arrested accused have prior criminal records, including cases under the NDPS Act and charges of assault. MSID:: 130283860 413 https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chandigarh/in-crackdown-on-drug-ring-mahendergarh-cops-arrest-nigerian-supplier-among-11/articleshow/130290669.cms?
