It is NOT the duty of the Federal Government to run secondary schools


That is constitutionally the duty of state governments

After the civil war unity schools were brought in to foster unity

All of them have the same motto Pro Uunitate

Kings College and Queens college are a bit of an exception because they have a different history

To the extent that the schools were set up FOR UNITY they were ALWAYS going to be a QUOTA system school

They ARE NOT centres of excellence for the best and brightest of Nigeria
Their mission PURPOSE is to create a situation where young children from diverse backgrounds can meet to form relationships that enhance national unity


e.g if the United Nations decides to set up such a school for the same reason and says 2 people from every country in the World

What would that look like?? Would Nigeria and Togo have the same cut off point? If such an examination was used?


The truth is at the beginning. The investment in the schools was higher and the standards better than what state governments were able to provide.

So the demand for slots in the school was very high.

The fact remains it is a quota system school and it is even possible to select people by a lottery

So when Iboes come out to shout they are being mischievous and GREEDY


Unity schools are a QUOTA System school Not a centre of excellence
If you don't want them the Federal Government would have no choice but to return the money to the Federation account because it is not a federal government responsibility to operate secondary schools
