The Super Falcons moved to the third round of CAF’s 2020 Tokyo Women Football Qualifiers after beating Algeria 1-0 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Tuesday to qualify 3-0 aggregate. The Falcons had defeated the North Africans 2-0 in the first leg in Algiers. The African champions’ foreign-based players, who were absent in the first leg, could not make a statement with their performance in the first half of the match. The attack led by FC Barcelona Women forward Asisat Oshoala were however asking all the questions as they piled pressure on the Desert ladies in search of a goal. The Algerians, on the other hand, were solid in the defence to keep the Falcons at bay. However, luck ran out on the visitors as Oshoala made a brilliant solo run for a perfect finish in the 59th minute. The lone goal was enough to send Thomas Dennerby side to the third round against either Mali or Cote d’Ivoire. https://www.news9naija.com.ng/2019/09/03/olympic-qualifier-falcons-beat-algeria-3-0/ |

Minority Caucus Leader of the House of Representatives has decried the alleged raid on Abuja residence of Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi; the Chairman, South East Governors Forum. In a statement by the Minority Leader of the house, Rep. Ndudi Elumelu (PDP-Delta) the caucus said that the raid was menacing and inexcusable development. The lawmakers said that the law enforcement agencies were free to do their job with respect to the rule of law. The caucus said it was, however, worried that police authorities had denied foreknowledge of the operation and called for thorough investigation. “We received with angst and rude shock the report of illegal raid on Abuja residence of the governor of Ebonyi and Chairman of South East Governors Forum, Chief Dave Umahi. “The fact that the police high commands, including the office of the Inspector-General of Police, have distanced themselves from the operation makes it a suspectious operation. The minority parties lawmakers called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, to intervein. |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lashed out at its counterpart in South Africa, the Africa National Congress (ANC) over its prolonged silence on the attack on Nigerians in South Africa, saying it was too early for them to forget the sacrifices of Nigerians in the fight against apartheid. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu said in a statement in Abuja that South African leaders cannot exonerate themselves from what the APC described as cowardly act by south African youths in constantly attacking Nigerians and their businesses in that country. “After what appeared to be a break, South African youths again attacked Nigerians and their businesses in that country on Monday and the APC is saying Nigeria and Nigerians does not deserve such treatment from South Africans. The statement reads “the All Progressives Congress (APC) strongly condemns the recent South African xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals, particularly on Nigerians, their property and businesses. “As a party, we are deeply saddened by these unwarranted attacks. Nigeria deserves better from South Africa. It is too early for South Africans to forget their country’s history. Many of the key players in the struggle against apartheid are still alive and active in the country’s national affairs. We therefore cannot understand why there seems to be a conspiracy of silence on their part. “The barbaric attack on citizens of other countries points to a failure of leadership. South African leaders cannot exonerate themselves from this cowardly act. We call on the South African ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) to urgently step in. This is completely at variance with what ANC stood for. The ANC government can no longer pretend about this obvious contradiction. “The violence being meted to Nigerians under ANC calls to question the very essence of the struggle against apartheid in which Nigeria was a frontline ally of South Africa. How can those who supported you and made huge sacrifices for your freedom become fair games to be murdered in cold blood? “Perhaps there is a disconnect between the younger and older generations of South Africa. The older generation cannot sit back while the uninformed youths and some South African public officials in their quest for inordinate populism destroy what we collectively achieved over several decades of sacrifice and brotherliness. “Today, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians. This is one of the first steps in this government’s proactive response to this unfortunate incident. We assure Nigerians that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration would continue to take decisive measures. The safety of Nigerians – home and abroad – is non-negotiable to the APC administration.” https://www.news9naija.com.ng/2019/09/03/apc-to-anc-dont-forget-sacrifices-of-nigerians-to-fight-against-apartheid/ |

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Monday said parents who keep their school-age children out of school run the risk of being prosecuted. Speaking in Eporo during an enrolment sensitisation campaign, Fayemi called on all parents and guardians to key into his administration’s free education programme. The governor, who stressed that the state’s Child Rights Law provided that all children must be given access to education, added that acting contrary to this was unlawful. The Ekiti government had last week commenced the school enrolment campaign aimed at ensuring that all school-age children register for the forthcoming 2019/2020 academic session. The governor said that it was an abuse of a child’s right for any parent or guardian to deny school-age children the opportunity to go to school under any guise He said the state government was currently providing free but quality education which parents must embrace to build a solid foundation for their children and wards. “We have a Child Rights Act in Ekiti which prohibits parents from disallowing children of school age to be out of school during school session. “If your child is not in school when the school is in session, you have a lot to explain because we will apprehend the child whether he is found hawking on the street or engaging in any illicit activities which prevent him or her from being in school. “The parents will also have to explain to the government or the relevant institutions why that child is not in school. “In implementing the law, we have a family court in the state that takes responsibility for children that are not in school and parents who fail in their responsibility,’’ Fayemi said. He pledged his administration’s commitment to restoring the state to its pride of place as the fountain of knowledge. The governor said his administration had provided instructional materials, furniture and a conducive learning environment where teachers could effectively contribute to the growth and development of their pupils. Fayemi said his administration was opposed to the collection of fees in all public primary and secondary schools in the state, stressing that any teacher or head-teacher caught collecting school fees from pupils would be seen as collecting a bribe. “For us in Ekiti, it is not enough to say we have free education. We need to enlighten our people, particularly those in the rural communities on the importance of education and the necessity for their wards to be enrolled. “This is because education is also compulsory in our state, and we are doing this for basic education level because we have experienced some challenges in the last four years in the state. “Enrolment figures in the state used to be the highest in the country up till 2014, and then we suffered a decrease in enrolment, according to UBEC’s national figure. “We have a duty as a government to ensure that we get the figure back to where it used to be in order to build the foundation that is solid for our children. “I think we have a duty to ensure that we don’t just encourage them to come to school but also provide everything to make sure education is pay-less for them “We are providing instructional materials and the school feeding that we now offer in primary school and encouraging teachers to deliver competently. “Also, we are working on the school environment because it is not just the teacher’s quality, but also the learning environment that contributes to the growth and development of the average child. “You cannot put children in an environment where they can’t learn properly because they have no table and chairs, no fence to protect the school premises. ” The teachers don’t have all they need in terms of maintaining discipline, there is an entire gamut of responsibilities that we have as parents,’’ the governor said. He urged parents to enroll their wards in public schools because of the qualified teaching personnel, adding that the free education being enjoyed by Ekiti children was in return for the tax being paid by citizens. Earlier, the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Fransisca Aladejana, had urged parents to enroll their children and wards in public schools because of their qualified and competent teachers as well as conducive learning environment. The South-West Zonal Director of UBEC, Mrs Mudubi Roseline, called on political and religious leaders to sensitise the people on the importance of enrolling their school-age children this school session. Following alleged demolition of a mosque by Rivers State Governor, Nyeson Wike, in Trans-Amadi area of Port Harcourt, the State capital, the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has asked him to make necessary compensation as well as rebuild the demolished property for peace to reign. Addressing a press conference on Monday, the Secretary General of the Council, Nafiu Baba-Ahmad said the compensation will go a long way to douse likelihood of religious and political tension across the country over the demolition Baba-Ahmad however expressed disappointment over what he called “the complicit silence of Muslim Leaders, Muslim Represenatives in the Senate and House of Reps, Muslim Governors with the exception of Kano State Governor and the Federal Government over the issue”. The Shari’ah Council Scribe also appealed to the executive and legislative arms of government to call Governor Wike to order to avoid any act of reciprocation from irresponsible quarters. He equally appealed to all Muslim faithful not to take law into their hands over governor Wike’s action because, “Islam is a religion of Peace, it does not promote violence nor disunity among the people”. He said, “While we condemn Governor Wike’s desperate wickedness, we also call on all relevant executive and legislative organs of the Federal Government, to wake up to their responsibilities and nip this unnecessary and wholesome development, before it escalates into an avoidable reciprocation, with obvious unpredictable negative consequences”. “All that need to be said on the issue relating to the purchase price, title to the land, building/planning approvals and court actions have been explained earlier in press statements and conferences by other responsible Muslims and Islamic Organisations”. |

Motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday appealed to traffic regulatory agencies to manage traffic beyond closing hours, to minimise the impact of gridlocks arising from the partial closure of the highway. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 600 metres stretch of the highway was shut early on Monday from Kara Bridge inward Ojodu Berger on the Lagos bound carriageway for repairs. When NAN correspondent visited the site, a large deployment of policemen and traffic regulatory agencies could be seen at the Isheri intersection on Berger Bridge. Also, patrol vehicles of the agencies were seen on various points on the corridor. Traffic was diverted from Kara Bridge and vehicles both inbound and outbound Lagos, used the Lagos bound carriageway up till Isheri junction, where it redistributes into normal lanes. Officials of construction giant, Julius Berger were demarcating various sections of the carriageways with crash barriers. The officials also used cranes to relocate some crash barriers using them to demarcate the highway as well as redistribute some concrete bases to hold additional diversion signs. Warning and diversion signs were placed on various sections on both carriageways. Explaining reasons for the relocation of some crash barriers to the entrance of the Kara Cow Market, an engineer on site said that it was to prevent reckless disregard for traffic rules. The engineer who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that traffic was being diverted behind a filling station, where motorists could enter the cow market. “We have to block the entrance so that commercial drivers will not use the road shoulder here to drive against traffic or cause any confusion in front of this market,” he stated. Some road users, who spoke to NAN appealed to the traffic regulatory agencies to continue in the zeal of the first day, to prevent gridlock in the days ahead. A commercial motorist, Olumide Ashade, who plies the Ketu Berger route, told NAN that there were fears of gridlock during peak periods and appealed for measures to prevent it. “Our fear is that during the rush hours there will be traffic. We expect go slow in the morning and during closing hours, that is when the traffic people should work more, ” he said. Mr Olaiya Akeem, an automobile engineer residing at River Valley Estate in, Ojodu, told NAN that whatever discomforts experienced would be for the overall good of road users. “The road is for our good. So we have to bear all the discomforts but they should hurry the construction to reduce suffering,” he said. A student of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Miss Yemisi Dada, appealed for speedy completion of the highway and effective traffic management. “I appreciate LASTMA, FRSC and the police because they are all here, but I am begging them not to get tired. They should continue with this effort so that there will not be ‘go slow,’” she said. The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing engineer supervising the project, Mr Kayode Ibrahim, told NAN that additional lanes were constructed before the diversion to prevent gridlock. Ibrahim explained that two lanes were added on the 600 metres stretch, to ensure that the width of the road was still the same, irrespective of closure of Lagos bound carriageway. “All the traffic agencies are on ground, everything is fine and there cannot be congestion. “If motorists are patient, obey traffic rules and maintain lane discipline, everybody will move because the road has not even been reviewed in capacity. “The road is a two-lane road and we are still having two lanes on both sides. We expanded the road shoulders at the construction point, to four lanes. “We did not reduce the number of lanes. The old road has two lanes on both carriageways, what we have done is to expand the road shoulders around the diversion point by additional two lanes. “There are two lanes going out of Lagos and two lanes coming into Lagos at the diversion point. “The reason for this is to ensure that motorists have the same width of road, both inbound and outbound Lagos. “The diversion did not affect the size of the road and we are expanding the road shoulders on some other portions, ahead of construction on those portions. “We are starting construction immediately after Kara Bridge, towards Lagos,” he said. The simple answer is no – search engine submission isn’t necessary. The majority of search engines nowadays (most notably Google) crawl and index pages by following links. Using that logic, a single inbound link from any already-indexed page will identify your page to the engine. Subsequently, if that page links to other pages within your site, they will also be indexed… and so on. For this reason, inbound linking is very important. In fact, acquiring back-links may be the most important of SEO. In theory though, a website owner shouldn’t have to ’scout’ or ‘hunt’ for links. If the presented content is of interest, useful, and/or important, there is a natural tendency among web users to link to information. This is the basis for the Google PageRank algorithm. With all due respect, submitting your site to the search engines can’t hurt. Plus, it only entails about 5 minutes of added work assuming you only submit to the big guys. And once is enough… you don’t need to submit your site more than once. It doesn’t help or get your site crawled any quicker or more often. It should be noted that submitting your site to Google, Yahoo, MSN, and many others doesn’t cost a fee. Many SEO companies assert that you need to pay to be indexed. This isn’t the case and I would stay away from these companies. They are money hungry and aren’t looking out for your best interest. Would you ever consider going on a vacation across the country without bringing a map? It is hard enough to find your way in some places with a map. How hard would it be if you tried this adventure without one? Yet, this is exactly what people do every single day in the online world. They tried to build their own businesses online without having a roadmap to success. Then, after months or years of just wandering around online, they give up in frustration and quit. They walk away saying that the Internet doesn’t work for them. The reason it didn’t work is that they didn’t pick up a map and follow it! You don’t have to end up lost in the online shuffle. Below I will give you ten steps to help you map out your course and get you started in the right direction. It isn’t everything that you need to know by any stretch of the imagination, but it will give you a basic foundation to build upon. Consider it your beginner’s map to Internet marketing profits. 1. Choose a targeted market The biggest mistake most people make when starting a business is that they choose a product and then try to find people who want to buy it. If that is the direction you are starting from on your journey, then you are going the opposite direction from your destination. Wise businesses operate from a different concept. They pick a market first, and then they pick a product those people are searching for. In other words, instead of trying to find leads to sell their product to, they find targeted leads and then ask them what they are wanting to buy. Don’t even consider starting a business until you know exactly where you are going to get your leads from. Think targeted customers first. Then, you can come up with a product for those individuals. Would you rather have 1,000 hits a day at your site of a general audience OR 10 hits a day of people who are desperate and willing to pay any price to buy your products? If you are smart, you will choose the people who are ready to buy! 2. Develop a Product Next, you need to develop a product or service for this market. Don’t just jump on the bandwagon of affiliate programs when you come to this step. There are three major ways to selling a product online: a. You create your own exclusive product. This is the best opportunity you have. If you develop your own product, you can pick it’s price, sell reprint rights to others, set up an affiliate program, etc. Don’t tell me you can’t do this. Tens of thousands of innovative entrepreneurs have used their own information products to get their careers started. You can to. Throughout your life, I am sure that there is something you have learned that you can share in a How-To product. Maybe you know someone else who has the right knowledge for a How-To product and you could offer to help them create a product if you both shared the rights to it. Don’t just jump past this opportunity and say it can’t be done. b. You buy the rights to a product or you JV for an offline product. You can buy the rights to successful products for $500 – $20,000. If someone else has created a product that you know your targeted market is interested in, offer them a large up-front fee for the rights to it. This way you can get your own product and never have to pay a penny in royalties. You can also search through magazines your targeted market reads and look for products people are selling. Then, give them a call and ask for the exclusive Internet rights to their product for a certain percentage of the profits or an up-front fee. c. You join an affiliate program. If you are just starting out online, this can be a good choice. You do have to keep in mind though that it doesn’t offer quite the profit potential that creating your own product or obtaining rights to one has. When choosing an affiliate program, make sure that it is something your targeted market cannot be without. They absolutely have to have it. Also pay special attention to the profits you receive from each sale. If you are only be paid 5% commissions on the sales of $10 books, you will only be making 50 cents per customer. It would take 2,000 customers just to product $1,000 in profits. You cannot make money like this online! Look for higher priced products and higher commissions…especially commissions in the 25% or higher range. 3. Create a USP Create a Unique Selling Position for your product or service. Too many companies are just trying to be me-too companies online. You cannot be just like the next guy and expect to make a profit in a global economy. Just going to the next guy’s web site to order is too easy for your customers. You have to create a Uniqueness to your product or offer. What can you offer that no one else can? Can you offer better guarantees, better customer service, more technical support, faster shipping, or lower prices. Think of something that will set you apart from all of your online competitors and tell in complete detail what it is. 4. Pick a Domain Name and Hosting Service The next step is to pick a domain name that describes your company, USP, and offer. Try to keep them as short and descriptive about your business as possible. Avoid using dashes or misspellings of your product. Both of these things will cause people to leave out part of your domain if they type it in. Someone else will be getting free traffic that you worked hard to obtain. For hosting, I personally choose to use Virtualis since they have the Fastest customer service and technical support in the industry. Test them out. They will respond to you within the hour…anytime 24 hours a day. No other company I have ever been with has even come close! 5. Develop a Customer Friendly Site The next step in the process is to develop your web site and put it up for the world to see. If you are planning to own a full-time Internet business, I recommend that you learn how to design the site yourself using one of dozens of programs which are readily available at any software store. You will save so much money if you can do the work yourself on just the editing alone as your site grows. If your main business is offline and you are just adding a secondary income, then you may want to consider having a professional do your site for you. When designing your site, keep the customer in mind always. Provide order forms for online credit card orders. Make all of the links easy to understand. Try to keep your site simple. Think like a customer, not the business owner. Your customers are not nearly as interested in your business as you are. Make sure to put the benefits of your site and your USP right on top of the site. More than half of the web surfers never drop down past the first screen full of information. So, you have to give them the information they need as quickly as possible. The rules for any type of business are Benefits, Benefits, and more Benefits. 6. Offer a Freebie One of the major keys to developing traffic and sales at your site is to always offer some type of freebie as a drawing factor. For example, I offer dozens of free reports, weather reports, news, and more. My greatest drawing factor throughout the past 8 months though has been the two free e-books which we offer on our site to people who subscribe to this newsletter. You need to come up with a freebie no matter what type of business you are in. Create a free report and give it away. Add in a message board or some other type of CGI program on your site. Give a free demo of your software. Create something that you can give away for free on your site to draw in the visitors. 7. Start Your Own Opt-In List Almost every full-time Internet marketer I know has developed their own Opt-in email list of some type. For most of them, it is a weekly newsletter they send out by email. For others, it may be a Tip of the Day. Other people might just have a list that they send out important updates to. No matter what you choose to do, odds will be on your side if you concentrate on building a list of loyal email subscribers. Very rarely do customers purchase from you the first time they visit your site. Most of them will get on your list, hang out for a few weeks or months, and then they buy from you. They have to get to know you before they are willing to spend their money with you. I have found that the most effective leads come from offline advertising. For example, you could purchase ads in a popular targeted magazine for your business. You could also purchase a postcard in one of the card decks. Start up a co-op and get 10 other people to advertise with you and run your own ads for free. Offline leads which come to your site often turn out to contain a much higher percentage of buyers than any of the online advertising methods. Once you put our short 10 step outline together you have a basic map to creating your own Internet success story. You wouldn’t consider going on a trip without a map. So don’t try to go it alone online without a map.
