PoliticsRe: Nnamdi Kanu Is An Indelible Stain On Biafra by iConductor: 12:47pm On Sep 22, 2017
[s]
rexbuton:
Biafra is nothing. Biafra is a state of mind. Biafra in tangible terms refers to the millions of people who lost their lives in the Nigerian civil war - though mostly one sided, but still referred to as a war since both sides took up arms. Millions of people were killed because of something they barely understood, thousands killed because they were neither here nor there, destruction that took decades to undo physically and little done to repair the emotional damage. Today when i type Biafra on google, Nnamdi Kanu pops up among the search results.., what an aberration! Biafra is not a man, not a territory, because it isn't recognized as a territory by the ethnic groups occupying the said area, there hasn't been a referendum , there is no provision for a referendum in the constitution, even if the people wanted a referendum, they would use their legislators to raise the issue at the Houses. Even if they are not numerically buoyant, via alignment with other legislators from other interested regions would make it possible or cause a serious legislative row that would be a burning national issue. But there has been no such move by the legislators, there has been no consultation, there is not even above 50% approval for a Biafran nation amongst the core proponents. If a mock referendum was conducted today, NO votes would have majority. Even in the aftermath of the Biafran affair of the 60s, there have been little efforts to build good relations with neighbours, instead the three ethnic groups complain that they are being cheated out of the sharing formula, forgetting that they owe their stability to the 'political minority ethnic groups' who act as buffers and now feed the nation.

Post military dictatorship, a system was worked out informally, birthed by the PDP, Zoning. Rotating the three core positions within the three 'major' ethnic groups. With president from the west, VP from north, senate president went to east. Through intra-ethnic wrangling , we saw the senate president being passed around from one individual to another within a short space of time. The west passed presidency to the north and VP to a minority, and through sheer providence, after just 3 years, power fell to the minority. In 2015, the error was corrected and power returned to the north. Following the rotation plan, as from 2020 (or 2023) we should be expecting a president from the east , either an Igbo president (or an Ibibio president or an Annang president or an Aniocha president or an Idoma president, or even an Ikwerre president if really the proponents of Biafra are honest). Though with recent happenings this looks very unlikely.

While we are suffering economic hardship together, Nnamdi Kanu arises. He claims he wants to restore Biafra. He conjures maps in his head, he abuses everyone and anyone, calls Nigeria a Zoo, abuses her government, abuses his neighbours and claims their lands. Soon he has a cult following, everyone is talking about Nnamdi KANU, the Messiah, how eloquent he speaks, how charismatic he is, how insightful his analyses are! But we are not looking at his message, we are not looking at the consequences of adopting such a stance in a country where the next person is looking at an opportunity to cheat you out of your shared portion. He claimed he had weapons, he had all the infrastructure to take down the zoo. He even abused his kinsmen who attend churches pastored by people not Igbo. And to cap it all he said he was a Jew. His followers were Jews, in fact the ethnic group was of Jewish stock. We all knew these were all fallacious at least, but we were entertained. The north, his punching bag, didn't care. Their quit notice was a strategy, coming at a time when the President's state was unknown. They fixed Oct 1st, in order to have enough time to verify if the president could continue or would abdicate. Nnamdi Kanu didn't understand this, he kept on spewing hate. The quit notice was revoked, giving the north a rare moral point, Kanu didn't relent. Going on to establish a secret service [sic]
Fast forward to a few months, the government has sent heavy boots to the east. There are clashes , news and videos ? of IPOB members looking for outsiders to harass. These pictures get on the internet. Tension builds up in the minds of people, because they expect the blood thirsty northerners to carry out reprisals , they decline however. Scoring another moral point. They are 2-0 up at halftime. Nnamdi didn't see war, he doesn't understand the politics of Nigeria. The only way out of this parasitic Union is via constitutional process . As long as the north has power , she would do anything to preserve peace and power. Use Kaduna state as an example, during Yakowa's tenure there were always issues, the other ethnic group even rejoiced when he died in that air crash, and Yero came in , then Rufai, and has there been crisis ever since? Has there? These people know what they want. They are focused.

In the nationalist coup of 1966, Ojukwu was in Kaduna when Nzeogwu struck the leading govt figures, without sentiment, without leaving anyone behind. He saw it first hand. In Lagos , sentiments crept in , all the targets were not eliminated, the GOC Ironsi was spared. Azikiwe was not in Nigeria. Orizu strangely did not die in that coup. In the east and Bendel there was no exercise because they claimed the Eastern premier had a foreign HOS visiting so they didn't want to risk foreign crisis. Nzeogwu later admitted that the coup was planned for the nations good, but sentiments in the south derailed the exercise. Ironsi failed to deal with the plotters. In spite of this, when the northerners launched their pogrom and the military July Rematch, killing Southerners in the North, Ojukwu urged for restraint and suppressed reprisal killings in the east. Going forward, his main issue was that Gowon was not the next senior officer, since he and Ojukwu were rank mates, that it should have been Ogundipe to be head of state. But Ogundipe had no troops under his direct command to enforce himself and thus causing a stand off between Ojukwu and the the coup plotters. With both parties been sufficiently aware of crude in the Niger delta beforehand, it didn't take long to declare a break away region. Looking at it critically , Ojukwu did not want war - though this is hard to say considering that he discarded all the advice people gave him to seek an early truce. And later in life he would go on to say that it would be stupid to start another civil war. But Kanu has been trying to start another one, endangering the lives of every Southerner living in the north. The military intervention came at a bad time, poorly executed but achieved the goal, restoration of peace and order.

For those crying foul, this is not the first military operation in Nigeria. The army invaded Odi, Bayelsa state, burning down every house to the ground, the army invaded Zaki Biam, the army invaded gbaramatu , the army engaged Shiites in Zaria, all with the same effect. Heavy casualties. And there was no official condemnation from any Igbo sociocultural group, so I don't see why they are trying to rope others into a crisis they allowed to fester. Even more surprising, a lot of them were rejoicing over the last BH attacks in Borno...
And a few days later, telling the world that the Hausa army is killing Igbo Christians in the east... are ipob members Christians? Are the troops fighting BH not also made up of southern soldiers? Why must we always tell lies? Why are we painting to the world , a scenario that isn't true? As much as I join in the condemnation of the NA for human right abuses, I also praise their actions, because if the north thought that nothing was done, they may have taken laws into their hands. The NA prevented crisis. I would rather have my rights abused than have my neck sliced with a blunt knife.

the solution to any problem is never conflict, because one party will always end up bitter and seek revenge. In my own eyes, the Igbo do not seek restructuring, they seek presidency. The Igbo are not marginalized. they benefit from the 3- ethnic groups system. it is an insult to refer to the industrious Igbo as marginalised. .
As at today , with current happenings, an Igbo man cannot be president for so many reasons - the most obvious being that he would be pulled down by his brothers
Dangote is a Hausa man, he has investments in the north, otedola is a Yoruba man, he has investments in the west. Igbo billionaires have investments in the north and in the west. Prices of properties in the north are driven up due to purchases by Igbo businessmen. Meanwhile the east is underdeveloped. These businessmen do not want Biafra, they want one Nigeria. The youth do not attack these businessmen, instead they attack neighbours and outsiders. Ojukwu wanted APGA to develop into a regional party representing the east, and someday become a national minority party, however the people sabotaged it. Peter Obi went to join PDP and since then , it has been on a free fall.

I expect the east to restructure herself first, teach your children to speak politely , establish good relations with your neighbours, study Nigeria's history, do not play opposition politics, find a position and stand by it irrespective of who is involved instead of condemning everything the government does. Hold your politicians responsible, make them speak for you at the Senate and House of Reps.
Reestablish APGA, try to capture the entire southeast , then south south, then North east and middle belt. If the proper ground work is started now, by 2023, we should have an Igbo or Ibibio president. you can only win through respect and alliance.

in 2019, we have a chance. if we want to break the domination by foreigners, simple. let's vote them out. if the south unites, and refuses to vote the various adopted northern candidates, you think heaven will fall? if we vote in a neutral Southerner, or a responsible Nigerian at least, the worst case scenario is that there would be protests in the north, everyone would be forced to return home, the break Up process would start . and the world would see why. Just in a year time...

When next you think of Biafra ,think of the millions of people who died, weep about where Nigeria would have been if those people didn't die. When next someone mentions Biafra, think about how far back it took us, think out our mates then, and where they are now. And the hate speech must stop. Until the north becomes educated and exposed enough to differentiate Igbo from other groups, we are all Igbo in their eyes.
[/s]

EVery zoogerian has an opinion on Biafra but can't suggest the same opinion to their use government to use and develop their hopeless zoo. grin

*Cardinal Okogie in today's Vanguard at page 7.*

Yoruba is no coward. The man of God said "To avoid going to war is not cowardice. It is to have the courage to subdue our ego and negotiate. ....." Better still, go get a copy of El Rufai's book titled "Accidental civil servant" and read the dialogue between the Author and Baba Obasanjo the then President. You will appreciate the value of native intelligence of the Yoruba which some ignoramus called cowardice. Pray, has Yoruba ever lost any war whether of the guns, intellectual, political or spiritual? No. Check the political, Social and religious history of Nigeria.

Who checkmated the advancement of the Fulanis to the South in 1807 at the famous Jalumi war outside Offa at Odo Otin to be precise? Who opened the gate of influx of our youths to the western world in search of Knowledge and sound education after the obnoxious policy and body called "Ijamba Foriti " otherwise known as Jamb? Remember the Exploit of the Yoruba in Nadeco that crippled the country to the extent that the dark goggled wearing General Abacha could not step into Yoruba land for four years. When Jonathan Administration with the aids of Pius Anyim schemed out the Yoruba out of his government inspite of protestations from the likes of Baba Bode George and other PDP leaders in Yorubaland, the Yoruba simply went to work with their brains to see to his exit after all, they put him there in the first place through careful planning.

Today, the Yoruba are the best educated black professionals in the USA. If in doubt check out the high brow teaching hospitals in the USA, UK, South Africa and Europe. The Yoruba stand out. Take a trip to Cardiff University in the UK, you'll think you are in Unilag. I was at a teaching hospital in Cape Town in February this year. On the Notice Board of this air Ambulance running teaching hospital was displayed the names of the consultants and specialists. Of the 41 consultants on the Notice Board were 17 Nigerians 16 of whom are of Yoruba extraction and the 17th Nigerian hails from Edo state going by his name. I was elated when to my dismay, the helicopter pilot that took me to my hotel from the hospital turned out to be another Nigerian of Yoruba extraction and indeed from my local government back home in Nigeria.

These Eminent Yoruba professionals are victims of the gang up against Yoruba interest. In 1960, the Yoruba was kept out of government but we made no notice. In 1963/64, Midwest was carved out of the West leaving the North and the East intact and untouched. Lagos Island and some parts of Apapa was carved out of the West as federal capital territory by the expansionists who had their eyes on our choice land, again, we let them be.

In 1979 to 1983, there was a gang up against the Yoruba again as they were kept out of government whilst the South East took the VP, the Speaker and of course, Cross River took the Senate Presidency. Then came the Jonathan Era, the old Eastern Region had the President, the Deputy Senate President, the Deputy Speaker, the Secretary to the Government, the Finance Minister, the central bank Governor after Sanusi, the Petroleum Minister, the SEC, DG, the Sure P Executive Secretary, the Director of Budget, the Director of procurement, the Aviation minister, the IGP and many more leaving the Yoruba with only one key ministry of Agriculture. Now compare and contrast the above scenario with Obasanjo regime of all inclusiveness. His finance Minister was Igbo, CBN Governor was Igbo, Army Chief was Tiv, later Igbo and Later Kaje from southern Kaduna. His DG of Nafdac was Igbo, his IGP was Yoruba, his External Affairs was Fulani, his Speaker was Fulani alongside with the VP, the Senate Presidency goes to Igbo land whilst the SGF went to Cross River throughout his 8 years reign. Even the PDP chairmanship was denied a Notherner of Yoruba extraction by Obasanjo on the ground that he a Yoruba man being the President should not allow another Yoruba man though from the North to occupy the chairmanship of PDP. I am speaking of Chief Awoniyi here.

I make bold to say here that Yoruba leaders at various levels of governance have fair sense of justice compare to those who would not mind filling all available positions under them with their kinsmen. It always back fire on them day in day out. Compare the administration of Obasanjo in terms of appointments and infrastructures like roads to that of subsequent administrations in this 4th Republic. It was the gang up against Yoruba interest that led millions of Yoruba to migrate to other parts of the world where they are now shinning like stars. Ijamba Foriti was conceived to keep the Yoruba down. University of Ife was taken over for the purpose of truncating the plan of Yoruba nation to turn the University into Yoruba speaking where medium of teaching and instructions would be Yoruba language. If in doubt ask Admiral Akin Aduwo. At every point in time the Yoruba employs power of reasoning over emotion whilst some other nationals resort to emotion, intimidation, threat and outright force.

Me think the approach of the Yoruba is the best in the circumstances. It is not cowardice to subject issues to empirical analysis before taking a decision. I am a Yoruba man, I am proud to be one and I would go for the Yoruba approach which is laced with loads and loads of native intelligence. We don't need to stand in front of a moving train just to prove bravery. It is the height of stupidity.

PoliticsRe: APC Accuses Fayose Of Funding Biafra Secession by iConductor: 8:36am On Sep 22, 2017
[s]
FOLYKAZE:
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of allegedly funding the leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and his organisation (IPOB), to distabilise Nigeria for the actualisation of the Republic of Biafra.

The party said the governor's counsel in his press release at the weekend urging dialogue in the resolution of the Biafran crisis is an afterthought after the Nigerian Army swung into action to perform their constitutional role of preserving the unity of Nigeria and bringing all secessionists and their backers to justice.

Fayose had at the weekend urged the Federal Government to embrace dialogue in the resolution of the Biafran agitation after the Nigerian Military had declared IPOB a terrorist organisation.

In a statement by Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the party dismissed Fayose's counsel as afterthought, stressing that the governor's actions and utterances had shown that he was "solidly behind any activity that will bring Nigeria down".

He said: "On April 26 and as published by The Nigerian Tribune Newspaper and its Tribuneonline publication on April 27, 2017, Fayose said he was working in conjunction with Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to raise funds for Kanu, stressing that he was taking his support for Kanu beyond showing solidarity in court by raising funds that would be deposited in an account opened in Kanu’s name."

Quoting Fayose as saying that "as many lawyers willing to fight the oppression should join the struggle for liberation from the oppression", Olatunbosun said Fayose was not new to seditious and treasonable activities to bring Nigeria down.

He explained: "He led a campaign to the Chinese Embassy in Abuja and later to Shanghai, the Chinese capital, to urge the Chinese government not to lend hands in helping Nigeria out of recession.

"Relentlessly, he led hate campaigns against the symbol of the Nigerian authority, President Muhammadu Buhari, wishing him dead, including hounding and haunting the President across the world, including on his sick bed, and threatening to expose the President on a life-support machine, all these in spite of swearing to uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to be loyal to the Nigerian state and her President.

"He went further as reported in the media on May 25, 2017 that 'Ekiti State is now part of Biafra', which drew the ire of several Yoruba groups as reported in the media.

"Not done, while Nigerians and indeed the country's leaders were celebrating Nigeria's exit from recession, Fayose was the only governor across the country who dismissed the celebration as a ruse, maintaining that Nigeria was still in a deep economic mess even though in his state, he is the biggest stumbling block to the survival of Ekiti people by diverting all loans he took to pay workers salary to needless projects contracts awarded to his friends' companies in which he allegedly has interest."

Olatunbosun added that Fayose demonstrated the seriousness of his support for the collapse of Nigeria when he released his telephone number 070300000393 and email:mystory2006@yahoo.com as reported in the media on April 27, 2017, urging all that were interested in the Biafra cause to contact him through the phone number and email address.

He also quoted Fayose as saying: “We are just driving the cause. As soon as we receive his account details, we will be made available.

"People have the right to agitate for independence. Even in traditional institution, people agitate for autonomy.

“As many as lawyers willing to fight the oppression should join the struggle for liberation from the oppression.”

Olatunbosun pointed out that while all the governors in the South East, including notable leaders, such as Ohanaeze leaders, Senate Deputy President Ekeremadu, among others, were condemning Kanu for his distabiliation activities, it was Fayose alone that was giving him moral and financial support.

"All the South East governors, including the Deputy Senate President Ike Ikeremadu, have opposed Kanu in his secessionist activities while Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has warned Kanu and IPOB to stay away from Rivers but Fayose declared Ekiti State as part of Biafra and that has confirmed the report that he is part of Biafra's financiers as he had publicly declared to the media.

"No wonder, just four months after Fayose started mobilising funds for Biafra, thousands of deadly weapons, including military assault rifles, were smuggled into the country but were intercepted by the Nigerian Customs while it was also discovered that uniformed Biafran militants already have military training camps where they are planning deadly assaults against Nigeria after threatening her leaders.

"We had earlier alerted the security agencies to the presence of armed gangs and stockpiling of arms in the Ekiti State Government House and his present activities in raising funds for Kanu only confirm that he is part of rebellion against the Nigerian state.

"We have always insisted that Fayose is a threat to the Nigeria's unity and the economic survival of her people," he explained.

Urging the security agencies and Interpol to investigate Fayose in his support for funding IPOB with "the latest influx of military assault rifles into the country", Olatunbosun said:

"His support for Kanu in funds mobilisation for his treasonable act and the activities of Fayose's media men in promoting the Biafran cause only point to one agenda to distabilise Nigeria and that has proved us right that Fayose has no agenda than the destabilisation of Nigeria to enable him escape all illegal and criminal activities linked to him in recent past."
