Over the last two years I've been struggling with my Altima 2005's high fuel consumption. I bought it Nigerian used by the way.
After purchasing the car, I noticed that the fans were always working constantly as soon as the ignition is turned on, I never knew it was the previous owner who did the bypass to be operating like that, until I saw another 2005 Altima two weeks ago, car was so silent and the owner told me he barely spends 10k for fueling. I was surprised.

My own Altima was consuming so much fuel, I thought it was a general issue, I checked out the mpg online and realized it's barely above what a Camry consumes.
I ventured into getting to the root of the matter, low and behold I finally found the culprit - it was my thermostat and fan bypass through two relays installed.

I read so many threads on nairaland from ikenna's early posts from way back 2011 and other nairalanders. I discovered our kazeems are the worst when it comes to automobile maintenance and fixes in Nigeria.

I bought a thermostat for my Nissan, installed that then I also reverted the fans back to factory settings.

Initially I was spending nothing less than 35-50k weekly on fuel, but since I removed the so called relay and reinstalled my thermostat, my fuel consumption reduced so much, tomorrow's Friday and I'm yet to spend up to 15k fuel this week on the car. I still have over 20k fuel left in my tank.

God will judge all mechanics and electricians removing people's thermostat and bypassing fans.

The way my car is now so silent ehn, the fan only comes on when I turn on the AC or when I am at a stop sign, some times it does not even come on at stop signs. It's just super great right now.
I was already planning to sell it at any price.

I spend over 150k on fuel monthly, at this rate I may not be spending above 60-70k again.


By the way, I approached like six different technicians to revert the bypass with the so-called annoying relays that I was always changing every two months. They refused. Stating our weather is different from oyinbo weather. Until the last guy did it for me last week Saturday.

I do tell them that Peugeot PAN and innoson come with thermostat 🤷. They are very clueless
