The rules are simple considering its for an exclusive group of people, making the numbers small and easy to manage. Hopefully.

I trust you guys will keep it clean as we wouldn't like to have anyone disqualified or banned. This goes for the debaters and audience.

For the first topic. there will be 3 rounds; The opening, second round (paired) and finals rounds. The debater with the lowest score will not move on to the next round.

The opening round is open for debaters to introduce the strengths and weakness of their supporting characters in general.

Judges would award points to each of the individual debaters and then there will be a break for 20 mins, to enable the debaters prepare for the next round. Debaters will be paired.

Round 2, the paired debaters will only reply to whoever it is they are paired up with and no one else! The first debater to post will tackle the opening post of his paired mate, followed by a rebuttal by the opposition.

Debaters are entitled to 2 posts each addressing in round two. The 3rd and subsequent posts will not count so make good use of your chances!

There will be another break for the judges to release the scores. Only 2 people will make it to the final round.

I don't want to place a limit on the number of posts for the final round as this will be between only 2 debaters.


The audience can cheer their favorite debater on but not allowed to contribute to the debate. Irrelevant comments will be deleted!

The judges will be basing their judgement and awarding points on:

Content: 5 points

Presentation style/delivery: 5 points

Clarity/fluency: 5 points

Quotations/References: 5 points

Therefore the maximum points a debaters can accrue is 20 points per round.

Quoting your characters is important to get points so please remember that

The side with the highest number of collective individual points, win.

Judges will not interrupt the debate. They would only post individual scores after each round. And they would do this before the commencement of each round except the first round.

Alright people! During an argument that ensued in the chat thread last night on Cypher vs Voldemort and then Dumbledore vs Gandalf, I thought it would be a good idea to have a debate thread on movies, comics and cartoons. This is going to be informal, fun but structured as well.

To launch these series of debates, I have a list of topics in mind which I have put in the schedule below. I am open to suggestions so lets have your ideas here!!

The debate will be on Saturday and Sunday evenings to get a good number of participants as we all live in different time zones. If you would like to take part as a debater then please let me know soonest so that I can work on pairing you guys up.

Will Ferrel doesn't need a detailed script. Have you watched Anchorman? He's an original.
