Jobs/Vacancies6 Things You Don't Owe Your Boss by impactteam2015(op): 10:13am On Mar 19, 2016
The typical workday is long enough as it is, and technology is making it even longer. When you do finally get home from a full day at the office, your mobile phone rings off the hook, and emails drop into your inbox from people who expect immediate responses.

While most people claim to disconnect as soon as they get home, recent research says otherwise. A study conducted by the American Psychological Association found that more than 50 percent of us check work email before and after work hours, throughout the weekend, and even when we’re sick. Even worse, 44 percent of us check work email while on vacation.

A Northern Illinois University study that came out this summer shows just how bad this level of connection really is. The study found that the expectation that people need to respond to emails during off-work hours produces a prolonged stress response, which the researchers named telepressure. Telepressure ensures that you are never able to relax and truly disengage from work. This prolonged state of stress is terrible for your health. Besides increasing your risk of heart disease, depression, and obesity, stress decreases your cognitive performance.

We need to establish boundaries between our personal and professional lives. When we don’t, our work, our health, and our personal lives suffer.

Responding to emails during off-work hours isn’t the only area in which you need to set boundaries. You need to make the critical distinction between what belongs to your employer and what belongs to you and you only. The items that follow are yours. If you don’t set boundaries around them and learn to say no to your boss, you’re giving away something with immeasurable value.

1. Your health.
It’s difficult to know when to set boundaries around your health at work because the decline is so gradual. Allowing stress to build up, losing sleep, and sitting all day without exercising all add up. Before you know it, you’re rubbing your aching back with one hand and your zombie-like eyes with the other, and you’re looking down at your newly acquired belly. The key here is to not let things sneak up on you, and the way you do that is by keeping a consistent routine. Think about what you need to do to keep yourself healthy (taking walks during lunch, not working weekends, taking your vacations as scheduled, etc.), make a plan, and stick to it no matter what. If you don’t, you’re allowing your work to overstep its bounds. more at http://impacttowers.com/2016/03/18/6-things-you-dont-owe-your-boss/

Christianity Etc10 Effortless Changes You Can Make In Your Daily Routine To Double Your Results by impactteam2015(op): 9:52pm On Nov 12, 2015
Who would not like to see positivity in life? Who would not like to see his results in something specific or something more general double or multiply? I am sure all of us would like to see that happen but it is much easier said than done. Effort is one of the key words and aspects that make a difference if implemented correctly. Yes, think of effort as a tool that you can make use of. The best thing is you can put effort in anything you do to make it better.
We all heard the famous saying, “Practice makes perfect.” Now in more general, effortless changes do make big differences. Maybe you are saying, well this does not sound much work, but wait a minute. Effortless changes do indeed mean that they are changes that do not require hard work to do but let me tell you what is meant by this.
Ever heard the saying, “Small changes can make a huge difference”? Yes, here we are breaking down a huge task which might seem impossible or a lot of hard work. So instead of backing off and not doing such a large assignment, if we break down to small tasks done every day it all of sudden seems shorter and easier to do. Magic huh? That is the reason why time management, scheduling, and prioritizing is very important. Let us look at some of the ways small changes in our daily routine can double our results.

1. Do Not Back Down
Are you the kind of person where if faced by difficulty in your daily life, you never give up and keep going no matter how hard a task might be? If yes, then good for you and keep it up. If you are not that type of person then try to make this small change in your day to day routine. This strategy could definitely help boost up your energy levels and help double your results.
I mean, just imagine two scenarios. The first is where a person is pessimistic and whenever faced with difficulty backs down from the challenge. This will tend to make that person not finish the tasks assigned for that day and might postpone or have to do some Monday tasks on a Tuesday. On the other hand, if the same person were to confront his fears and difficulties and challenge them, they would be able to push through the day and get everything done.

2. Stay Hopeful
Hope is a powerful element that should be implemented in every household and every day. Hope is on your side if you are positive. Staying hopeful is staying happy and anticipating that something good is about to happen. We all have our ups and downs in life and in our daily schedules, but we all need to stay hopeful as this does make a difference.
Let us say you are looking for work and applying everywhere dropping your resume on multiple sites and racing between job fairs to increase your chances of landing an interview. Anyone looking at this case would see that this person is doing everything possible and exerting a lot of effort to get what he wants. Let us add that this person waited a few months or even a year but still did not land any interview. A lot of people in such a situation would give up and feel like there is no hope and that they will never land a job. However, even in such a situation where you did all you could do but still did not work, be positive that you will find a job in the future.

3. Time Management
Oh, time management! Where should I start from? Time management is such an important aspect of life that could be the difference between success and failure. Did you ever think of this? Time management is the ability to manage time as the name suggests, but even more than that it has a lot of sub-elements beneath it and a lot of ways to manage time.
Time management is one of the simple changes we can all commit to in our daily lives to possibly double or increase our results and outcomes. Make sure that before going to bed each day, you prepare in advance. This can help keep you ahead of everyone else and help sort out your coming few days or maybe week.
Let us discuss the one day schedule preparation; before going to bed you can put the books you need for the next day in your back pack if you are a high-school or college student. One more thing you could do is plan out the various activities you have the next day and the timings that suit those activities.

4. Make Every Step Count
Don’t you think it is extremely important that the steps you take in life and to achieve your goals are slow but steady and firm? I certainly agree to that. Imagine that you need or want to finish a task or activity and have a lot of work ahead of you.
One of the best ways to accomplish this is by dividing up the task into several smaller tasks that are easier to accomplish one at a time. Doing this could definitely help ease up the process or activity quite significantly, because it would look like you have a small task to do at a time which could allow individuals to reach their goals eventually. One other angle of this is the fact that you should always do smaller tasks and take smaller steps and complete them efficiently rather than taking large steps and not finishing them properly and so have to go back and redo the whole process again.

5. Smile
This might be a self-explanatory concept but let us go over further. So, smiling is important in your everyday life and is such a small change you can make to get superb results. I am talking about trying to be positive and smiling every single moment you could, because that will result in drawing smiles on others’ faces which in turn produces positive results.
Rarely do you see someone smiling in someone else’s face and the second person being rude or being disrespectful. This is because as we mentioned in other articles that smiling, happiness, and positivity acts like a potent magnet that attracts other people and brings the best out of them. Furthermore, smiling means happiness which means satisfaction. Satisfaction in turn causes you to achieve more results since even if you are faced with difficult situations; you still look at the full half of the cup.

6. Dividing Your Day
This concept here ties with the concept of time management discussed earlier. Dividing your day and activities up could be a very good way to bring you closer to your dreams and goals. Everyone knows the feeling of waking up in the morning and feeling overwhelmed with all the endless activities and commitments you have to do. It is not necessarily a good feeling; however we could try to look at it from another point of view.
Why can’t we consider a simple change in our daily lives where we divide up the day somehow and thus dividing up the activities accordingly? One of the ways we can do that is through allocating a time slot for every task and so if we need more time for that task and it is not a task of high priority, we may shift it to another less crowded time slot or maybe even to another day. This could play a major role in doubling or increasing our results.

7. Prioritizing
Again another important concept that ties in with time management and dividing up work is prioritization. Prioritizing is an important tool by which you put first things first. So in the case where you had to choose between exercise and studying a bit more, depending on how important each activity is, you would put one of them first on your list and the second would follow. The logical decision would be to put studies on the top of the list and put exercise next, since exercising is very significant, too.
Putting first things first will not only ensure that you finish off the most important things first and then decide on the next important thing, but also could help organize your daily or weekly schedule. One creative yet simple way of prioritizing your day would be to mark activities of top importance with an “A”, followed with the less important activities with a “B”, and the least important activities with a “C”.
Organizing your schedule in such a way will definitely give you a chance to effectively work through your day effectively. The way I see it is that each day one needs to make sure to complete the activities marked with an “A”, and maybe some of the ones from the “B” category, while moving or postponing any other unfinished activities to a more convenient day.

8. Removing Distractions
Currently, there are so many distractions around us in life that is extremely hard to eliminate all of them. Multitasking and social media are just two examples of such distractions. People think highly of themselves sometimes if they can multitask, because they feel it is a good thing.
However, they do not realize that sometimes multitasking can be something that has a negative impact on you too. Texting and driving is a common example of such multitasking. This is a very dangerous, serious act with an impact that people do not often realize. Texting while driving keeps on popping up as one of the reasons behind accidents. Do you not think that this is something simple we can avoid and in effect will make our lives more positive and impact society in a positive way?
On the other hand, another distraction we can avoid or reduce is social media. There are people that just cannot sit on their desk to study without having to browse Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the internet in general. This is something affecting some negatively and is definitely something we can learn to reduce or remove in order to achieve better results. Passing or failing a course is sometimes determined by this.

9. Be Determined
Determination is another key point when it comes to success and achieving results. Are you the kind of person that just along with the flow of the day and finish work with average quality, or the kind of person that is always determined and equipped with the willpower to achieve whatever you want to do and see the purpose in putting in the effort? I’m sure you know what the better attitude would be towards working and checking off your tasks.
There is no point in going through something and working very hard for something you do not believe or do not see the purpose in. This is because if you are forced to do something most of the time you will not do well in that activity or might just do enough to pass or complete it. I knew someone in university that told me he was forced to do engineering by his parents while he preferred a business major. Thus, he started off double majoring in engineering and business. Later on, he informed me that he dropped engineering because he felt he was really struggling and had no interest in that major. I am not sure if he ended up going back to engineering but it’s no surprise in this story.

10. Be More Organized
Organization is a very essential element of life and is something that if not used and used properly can lead to a lot of trouble. Organization is really important in life as a whole and is something that is associated with better results. This could be a small change in your life as you take it gradually. Organizing yourself could help save quality time that could then be used for something else. Organization also helps us complete tasks more effectively and efficiently; it happens that two people doing the same task finish it in different times; part of this depends on the organization skills.
The most important thing when it comes to obtaining more results and achieving better outcomes is to have the intention to initiate such a change. This is like the ignition key of a car. You cannot start a car without the ignition process and once the car is started, you can start moving.

Politics“mohammed Buba Marwa Delivered The Letter Bomb That Killed Dele Giwa” -- Dr. Tai by impactteam2015(op): 1:32am On Oct 29, 2015
On Sunday, Professor Taiyemiwo Ogunade gave a bombshell interview to the NATION newspaper in which he made startling revelations about those who killed Dele Giwa in 1986. In a subsequent chat with Saharareporters, he spoke specifically about the role of former military administrator of Lagos State Buba Marwa in the assassination of the journalist.

Dr. Ogunade disclosed that soldiers loyal to the slain General Mamman Vatsa identified Marwa as the person who delivered the parcel bomb that killed Giwa, the Newswatch magazine founder.

He said the revelation came from a confidential discussion he had with one of the military boys who came to the City University of New York (CUNY) to press the college to train Nigerian military officials in “Peace and Conflict Resolution”. He said that Vatsa gave a four-hour long testimony to the military tribunal that tried and later sentenced him to death for a phantom coup plot against former military dictator, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.

Saharareporters: Do you know who delivered the bomb that killed Dele Giwa?

Ogunade: I believe that Buba Marwa did it. Some Mamman Vatsa boys told the full story in New York during a visit to my college to lobby our college to accept to train Nigerian military officers. Ambassador Olusola was on that entourage. [My informant] told me Dele Giwa was killed because he was in possession of a tape containing Vatsa’s testimony before the military tribunal. For four hours, Vatsa requested to tell the full story about how the Babangida regime was operating and his knowledge of the workings of IBB’s mind. He pointed out that after Halilu Akilu and Col. A.K Togun of the military intelligence prepared the parcel it was handed over to Buba Marwa to deliver to Dele Giwa. Marwa is a well–known “IBB boy”. But I was the one who gave Dele Giwa the tape.

Saharareporters: How did you get the tape?

Ogunade: Vatsa had a copy made by his friends in the tribunal and smuggled out to me and I “loaned” it to Dele Giwa who got on the case immediately. I still don’t know how Dele Giwa found out that I had the tape till this day.

Saharareporters: Do you still have a copy?
Ogunade: Yes, but you know I left Nigeria hurriedly after the death of Dele Giwa. I left [the tape] with my aged mother, who did not know the value then. I won’t say more, let the military release that tape to the Nigerian public.

Saharareporters: Did Dele Giwa return the tape to you?

Ogunade: Yes, he returned it after 24 hours. Don’t forget that I loaned it to him; I think he went and played it to Babangida’s people and they eliminated him after they heard the tape.

Saharareporters: What about Gloria Okon? It’s been said that Dele Giwa’s discovery of her was the reason he was killed?

Ogunade: Gloria Okon is actually Chinyere, that’s her real name. She married Charles "Jeff" Chandler, the fellow who killed Nzeogwu and was killed a day later. Chinyere, Maryam and Princess Atta were young friends who hung out together. They all married into the military, because the military was a proud and respectable profession then. Charles Chandler, who was Tiv, married Chinyere who I think is from Imo State. IBB married Maryam from Asaba and Mamman Vatsa married the princess. So Chinyere became a widow and resorted to trading between UK and Nigeria. And then she was caught with drugs; Mamman Vatsa was the person who put Chinyere on the next available flight from Kano to London – and then claimed that she was dead by parading a dead woman picked out of the mortuary. Dele Giwa later found out that she was in London having delivered a baby by another man. He sent a French photographer to the place and they saw Maryam Babangida at the event. Kayode Soyinka brought back the photographs.
Dele was sitting across the table from Kayode examining the photos taken of “Gloria Okon” (Chinyere, Richard Chandler’s wife) at the naming ceremony in London. Maryam Babangida was there. And then a letter parcel was delivered to him and he said excitedly that it must be from “Mr. President” referring to the discussions he had with IBB days earlier. The bomb exploded and severed his lower abdomen; he died a few hours later.

Saharareporters: Did you ever meet Marwa again? And did you ask him about his involvement?

Ogunade: Yes, Marwa was very active in the Nigerian embassy in New York. For a long time he was the “military attaché” to the Nigerian mission in New York while I was a professor of Black Studies at the City University of New York. He came to my college to sign a $30 million contract with the college so that members of the Nigerian military could attend a “Peace and Conflict Resolution program” and then be awarded a masters degree upon completion of the program. I fought bitterly against it, but the chair of the department, John Muyibi Amoda, badly wanted the money. I kept fighting and one day the college authorities acceded to my request. When I got home the college had dismissed me, but also I got a fax message saying the $30 million had been returned to Marwa. But between Marwa and Abacha they never returned that money to the Nigerian treasury. They shared it. I heard between him and Abacha, over $250 million was laundered through an account used by the New York mission of the Nigerian embassy. Marwa later set up an airline with his share of the loot. When he showed up to run for president I was the one who petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate him. He confessed to money laundering in handwritten statements to the EFCC, but today he is the ambassador of Nigeria to South Africa. The police officer that investigated him, Ibrahim Magu, is permanently suspended from the police force after he was humiliated by the EFCC. It is a shameful country.

Saharareporters: What else did you do?

Ogunade: We helped start the Obama phenomenon in Chicago.

Saharareporters: How?

Ogunade: We fought and exposed Carol Mosley-Braun who was Abacha’s agent in the US Senate. She was removed from the US Senate because she took $5 million from Abacha to help cover his tracks in the US. We exposed her, which was how it became possible for the brilliant Obama to become the US president today. We set the stage for it.
PoliticsDSS Arrests 45 Boko Haram Suspects In Lagos, Foils Plot To Bomb Ikoyi Estate by impactteam2015(op): 9:42pm On Oct 24, 2015
e Department of State Services has arrested 45 suspected Boko Haram members in connection with a foiled attack on Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos in September.

The DSS also charged the suspects to a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Isolo on Friday and the court ordered the remand of the 45 suspects in Kirikiri prisons in the state.

The DSS, which obtained the remand order on the suspects, told the court that they were arrested in connection with a foiled attack on Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos in September.

The DSS said the suspects were arrested following intelligence report on their alleged plan to attack the estate, which is in a high brow area in the state. The security operatives told the court that the suspects had volunteered confessional statements, adding that arms were recovered from them.

The DSS urged the court to remand the suspects in prison pending further investigations. The magistrate, who asked that his name should not be disclosed for security reasons, granted the prayers that the suspects be remanded in prison.

According to the charge filed before the court, the names of the suspects include Abuyi Sheriff, Babagana Ali, Abass Ibrahim, Abubaka Grema, Kabiri Ibrahim, Mustaph Mohammed, Usman Mohammed, Modu Amsami, Isa Agafi, Adamu Jebili and Saja Kamba.

Also among them were: Abba Sagoma, Mallam Buchu, Abdul-Kareem Abba, Babagana Koloye, Usman Buka, Adamu Mohammed, Lawal Mohammed, Tela Abana, Mustapha Mohammed, Isa Agafi, Belo Modu, Kachala Babagana, Modu Abu and Alhaji Modu Mustapha.

An affidavit presented in court disclosed how a team of the DSS cordoned off the area, intercepted the suspects and carried out the arrests.

However, the DSS could not be reached as it had yet to announce a new spokesperson.

Recently, the DSS disclosed that it had arrested some suspected terrorists in various places in and around Lagos including Kara, Isheri Berger area; Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Alimosho area; Ijora Badia, Apapa area; and Ebute-Meta in Lagos Mainland Local Government Area.

Earlier in the year, two suspected members of Boko Haram were also arrested in the metropolis.

The suspects were apprehended during an operation carried out by men and officers of the Operation Mesa, a joint security outfit comprising members of the armed forces and those of the DSS.

The raid had taken place at the Ijora 7-Up area of Lagos, after a tip-off on the activities of a terror network coordinated by Iranians in the city. The suspects, a Chadian, identified as Aminu, and a Northerner, whose identity could not be ascertained, were arrested after soldiers ransacked a building in the area.

Aminu was said to have concealed some devices suspected to be explosives in boxes, which were stacked in the ceiling of the house. Also recovered alongside the suspected explosives were two AK47 rifles. The National Security Adviser had also recently issued a security alert on the likelihood of Boko Haram attacking Lagos seaports following concerns expressed by the United States Embassy on the level of insecurity at the country’s seaports.

The Assistant Comptroller General of Customs in charge of Enforcement and Intelligence, Mr. Dan Ugo, had on behalf of the Comptroller General, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), signed the alert. Following the security alert, it was learned that the Nigeria Customs Service had begun the restriction of persons into its various commands and formations in Lagos.

The development had also brought about an increase in the level of security checks at all access points into the ports. The leadership of the Port Facility Security Officer Forum had also warned its members to increase surveillance on their facilities and reduce the number of people into their premises.

Thousands of lives had been lost to series of attacks by the dreaded terrorist group, especially in the North Eastern part of the country. The group, which had pledged allegiance to ISIS also claimed several lives in multiple explosions on Friday.
PoliticsAgain Governor Fayose Blasts President Buhari by impactteam2015(op): 8:37pm On Oct 22, 2015
The imbroglio between the Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, and the presidency which had apparently died down for a while seems to have arisen again as the Peoples Democratic Party governor has fired a short at the President Muhammadu Buhari.

Governor Fayose
Governor Fayose
In reaction to the appointment of the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the governor stated that President Buhari has proven that he really short-changed the Yoruba leaders who helped him become president by not exonerating himself as sectional president.

According to Vanguard, the Ekiti state governor described the appointment of yet another northerner to chair the electoral commission as a vindication of his position.

Fayose insisted that the president is a sectional leader who sees himself mainly as leader of the Hausa/Fulani and not that of the entire people of Nigeria.

READ ALSO: Top 13 Facts You Should Know About The New INEC Chairman

The governor said that since the Southern geo-political zones especially the South Western part of the country have not yet produced chairman of the nation’s electoral umpire that he expected the new commission’s chairman to have been chosen from one of the three zones.

He stated firmly that Nigeria has entered a one chance bus and it remains to be seen who will save the country from its sectional president.

The controversial governor said this in a statement signed by his special assistant on public communications and new media, Lere Olayinka.

The governor asked: “Shouldn’t he have considered someone from South-East, South-South or South-West as Chairman of the Electoral Commission now that we have a President from the North?

“For reasons of perception, equity and fairness, don’t we have credible people from the Southern part of Nigeria that can conduct credible elections as INEC Chairman? Or do we assume that the 2019 elections have already been won and lost by the appointment of this Hausa/Fulani professor as INEC chairman? Or isn’t it regrettable that even in 2015, it is only in PDP controlled States that elections are being upturned?”

He said he was worried that the three arms of government namely: the executive, legislative and judiciary were being headed by northerners leaving the three zones in the Southern part of the country with nothing.

Speaking further, Governor Fayose said that when Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was the president, he never appointed a Yoruba man as INEC chairman.

He added that when the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, was in power too that he did not appoint an Ijaw man as INEC chairman.

He further said: “Former President Shehu Shagari too did not appoint a Hausa man like himself as chairman of the Federal Electoral Commission (FEDECO). Rather, he appointed late Justice Victor Ovie Whisky.

“During the Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha regimes, no Hausa/Fulani man was appointed as chairman of the National Electoral Commission of Nigeria and General Abdulsalami Abubakar who established the current INEC did not also appoint his fellow Hausa man as chairman.

“How then can we have a president from the North and at the same time have INEC chairman from the Hausa/Fulani Northern Nigeria?

“Obviously, what is being witnessed is more like a situation where it appears the president is more interested in having someone malleable to him than serving the interest of Nigeria and its people.”

The president had On Thursday, October 22, sent a letter to the Senate seeking the confirmation of the appointment of the new INEC chairman and its commissioners.

Yakubu is a professor of political history and international studies, and was the executive secretary of the tertiary education trust fund.
