MODUS OPERANDI OF THE SCAMMER:
I called his mobile contact on the advert, we negotiated nd price which he claim a deposit must be made, I requested for his location and he said KEbbi State. He asked for a commitment to make him leave Kebbi for Enugu State. We agreed I make a commitment to show sign of commitment, by 3am, I did a skye bank e-transfer to his keystone account for 70k amd I told him. He tells me he just called his dispatch driver who picked an ‘escort’ to deliver the car to Enugu from Kebbi. He text me phone no ‘08151158227 o.c mike’. I called o.c. mike the escort and he told 4 hours later they are entering sulaja and I was so happy.
THE DEAL.
Pay in 70k, make a check deposit and present the bank teller to his delivery people and pick ur ride. However, I kept in touch with Mike, and about 12 noon, the seller mails a bill of sale for the ride and asks I print an acknowledge copy for his delivery people to verify that its actually goat leg that is buying the car.
2pm seller calls to say his people will reach very late and need pick a night bus to lagos and as such I shold make more payments to enable them clear more cars as in lagos, as offloading of containers will be done at night in lagos. He said his people were close to Awka by 3pm and I was damn happy, and he pleaded I should even make 100% payment since the car was less than an hour to the coal city.
I really felt convinced. I rushed to he bank to pay in over 1m! Something struck a contemplation in me and I said NOP. I withdrew 200k and deposited in his keystone account, wrote a check depost of 830k and lodged in same account.
He calls 4pm to say he has not got the 200k alert, that am I sincere? Am my really sure, I text the 200k teller to him, he calls back about 4.15pm to say payment conformed. I called escort guy and he said he was in 9th mile. I giggled and imagined me cruising my blue corolla 04.
Escort guy calls to say where we would meet, I said Polo Park shope rite. I kept my baby boy at home and took a taxi from Independence lay out to polo park with wife, alongside the bank tellers and the acknowledge bill of sale.
9th mile to polo park should take 25minnutes drive on average. I called inmins and escort guy didn’t pick for times. Escort guy later picks and says he was assisting clear a traffic hold-up along the way.

Seller calls to say he just called his account officer and the man said I didn’t pay in any cheque, that how can I pay in a cheque in a savings account? Immediately I knew I was in for a ride with mr. trust betrayal.
I knew immediately that car dealers should not have savings account but current for ease of cheque payments. Seller calls to tell me that I am trying to outsmart him abi? That he has instructed his boys to divert elsewhere.
I got a shocker when my wife sent him one of those crime does not pay sms and the scammer replied ‘heaven helps those who help themselves’
He called to tell me that he knows am a professional quantity surveyor, that he too he is a trained and professional swindler! Imagine the blow I felt!
I have been u user of Nairaland since 2008 and the only first deal I tried doing on the site ended up in regrets and pains. Am even considering asking moderator to close my account.

I know business is booming, but dont treat your customers with neglect. i know its difficult, but you need to find a way round this reoccurring. Build systems ard ur business. If u have to hire a Customer Rep, pls do, at least to pick ur calls and respond to emails- there is nothing as good as updates.

I love what Oyewole did, he exposed a major problem with small businesses in this country-AFTER SALES SUPPORT. This is the number one business killer.
