The assailants, suspected to be terrorists, stormed the community around midnight on Sunday, firing shots into the air to disperse residents before seizing their victims.

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to be cautious as he weighs calls to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Democracy Dialogue of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation in Accra, Ghana, Kukah praised Jonathan’s 2015 conceding of defeat as a defining moment for Nigeria’s democracy, describing it as an act of sacrifice and honor.

He noted that Jonathan had the power and resources to resist the outcome of the election but instead chose peace, a decision Kukah said restored hope in democratic governance.
However, the cleric cautioned the former president to tread carefully in considering a political comeback.

Quoting former Defence Minister, General Theophilus Danjuma, Kukah said: “The voice of the devil is not so far from the voice of God. Listen very carefully to those who want to use you as an instrument for the elongation of their interests, and not your interests or the interests of Nigeria.”

He urged Jonathan to reflect deeply, pray, and make a decision guided by conscience and the National interest.

The first lady of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo has berated the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), senator Uche Ekwunife, over what she described as malicious allegations” against her family.

Recall that Ekwunife had alleged that Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife were part of the administration of late Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju between 1999 and 2003.

Ekwunife stated this while reacting to reports that her academic qualifications were questionable.

Speaking via a statement on Saturday, Soludo dared Ekwunife to a public oath and DNA tests on her children.

She warned that legal actions would be taken against the Senator if she does not withdrew her claims and apologized within 72 hours.

Soludo said, “For starters, let me repeat three verifiable facts. One, I have never worked for anyone in my life. I have been a professional and an entrepreneur all my adult life. Two, I never met Dr. Mbadinuju of blessed memory in my life. Three, in my 55 years on planet earth, I have known only one man, Chukwuma Soludo.

“As a businesswoman, I will pay for your and your family’s travels as well as for the tests. If, after the tests, it is confirmed that your husband is the father of all your children, I will congratulate you with a cash award. I can confirm that my family is ready for this test at any moment of your choice,”she stated.

She also proposed DNA tests for both families, to be conducted in three reputable hospitals in London, stressing that she would bear all expenses.

Soludo concluded by urging Ekwunife to recant her statements and tender an unreserved apology within 72 hours, warning that her lawyers had been notified in preparation for possible legal action.

To everyone’s surprise, the lady stood her ground and declined the proposal. She reportedly told him she could not marry him because of his profession, explaining that she was unwilling to settle down with someone who works as a plumber.

At least ten children have died following a diphtheria outbreak in Agaie and Bida Local Government Areas of Niger State.

The victims were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, but later passed away. More deaths have also been reported in surrounding communities since the outbreak began.

A worried resident of Bida, who spoke on condition of anonymity, appealed to the state government for urgent help.“This is a matter of life and death. We need immediate supply of drugs to Bida and Agaie hospitals to stop the spread,” the resident said.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Health Care, Dr. Mohammed Gana, confirmed the outbreak. He said the government, with support from health partners, is providing drugs and taking steps to contain it.

“Yes, there is an outbreak of diphtheria in these local governments. We are doing everything possible to bring it under control,” Gana assured, adding that the situation has now been stabilised.

A suspected thief who had allegedly been terrorizing palm oil traders at Urua Anwa Market in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been apprehended.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the suspect, said to have allegedly been targeting traders for some time, was caught while trying to sneak away with a container of palm oil.

The suspect was nabbed on Tuesday, September 12, 2025 .

The quick intervention of market leaders and vigilant traders prevented the situation from escalating into mob action.

He was later handed over to the appropriate authorities for further questioning and possible prosecution.
