This is the heart-stopping moment a 5-year-old boy hangs from a Ferris wheel by his neck after being allowed to ride alone.

The boy is said to have been let onto the fairground attraction by himself to save his mother £3 for admission. He is believed to have tried to sit on metal bars securing the window of the cabin when he slipped at Yuhuan Park in Taizhou city, east China.

He was with his mother, Liu, visiting the park for the mid-autumn festival weekend and she said that he had nagged her about going on the ride. But as his cabin reached the peak of the 137ft ride he was seen climbing out of the window, feet first. He then appeared to slip out of the window between the metal security bars and can be seen desperately kicking his legs as he hangs by his neck. With nobody in the car to help him, his mother can only look on as the Ferris wheel slowly completes its rotation, bringing him to the ground.

He was quickly freed from the bars and was taken to hospital but fortunately only suffered scratches to his neck.

The Ferris wheel has now been closed down so that an investigation can take place.
