MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH MIKE ENYONG



I lost my parents in my level 100 and 200 respectively and since then, life became miserable for me. I hardly fed well. Payment of my tuition fees and other Departmental and Faculty charges were completely unattainable. I was tossed about by lecturers and students who knew my background, and this made everything uneasy for me.

Since I couldn't afford an accommodation, I was squatting with a church member who tried everything he could to make sure I was comfortable. Though he was not from a rich home, his condition was better than mine because he had big siblings, parents and other relatives. Mine was worst because as the only child of my parents, my uncles had claimed the little properties my parents had. So I was left with no one and nothing to hold on.

My Head of Department who understood my plight was able to offer me clearance to partake in every semester's examinations and other assessments. But after my degree exams, I needed to pay all my outstanding debts in school so I could be mobilized for service.

I started working as a receptionist in Mirrage Hotel, Calabar where I was paid N10, 000 every month. Even if I had worked there for a full year, I wouldn't still have been able to gather up funds for my debts in school. So I need to look for help anywhere.

I was left with no option than to start telling my problem to people. One day, a young man walked into our hotel. After I had served him, he called and asked where I was from. When he got to know my condition, he complained he's broke but that he can give me some contacts I could call for help.

I got the contacts and immediately, I dropped all of them a message. Later the following morning, I tried calling the three contacts he gave me but only one responded to the call. " Ekemini I've seen your message, but I'm currently in a breakfast meeting with the Minister. I'll get back to you in some hours". This was the reply I got from one of the contacts who happened to be Hon. Mike Enyong.

I asked some of my friends if they knew the man but the replies they gave me made me discouraged. They told me Mike Enyong was a 419 that he'll never help me. So I never hoped on him getting back to me as promised.

After one week that, I had forgotten everything and accepted my fate, a strange number called me and when I picked up the phone, it was Mike Enyong. We talked for about an hour. I told him all I've passed through and on the background, I could hear him wept. He dropped the call, sent me a message demanding for my account details. I had told him I need about N176,000 to clear my outstanding debts in school. Few hours later, I got an alert of N500,000.

For hours, it was like I was dreaming, but the reality was that it wasn't a dream. I rushed to my school to clear all my debts. I got a new phone and I uploaded all the transactions to him on Whatsapp. But till I went for service and came back, he never replied.

I served in Jos and the cost of life there was okay, so I was able to make some savings. After my service year, I dropped him a message online appreciating him for the financial help he offered me. Some weeks later, Mike Enyong dropped me a chat on Whatsapp. " Congratulations. Go to the Federal Ministry of Labour and get your employment letter".

I had thought it was a joke, but when I reached Abuja, I discovered that he had worked for me to have a permanent job at the Ministry.

I've been trying to meet him in person so I could express my heartfelt gratitude but each time I try, he's not always there. This is the main reason I'm writing so that he'll know how grateful I am should incase he sees this.

Essien Udim Re-run: APC's violence strategy looming again over Essien Udim

Eye witness account from Essien Udim reveal that the All Progressives Congress are on the plough again to unleash violence on the lives and properties of Essien Udim people during the Court ordered re-run election for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Federal Constituency and State House of Assembly slated to hold today, January 25, 2020 at Essien Udim Local Government Area only.

Recall that during the February 28 and March 9, 2019 general elections, there was gross violence perpetuated by the All Progressives Congress in Essien Udim Local Government Area, supervised by Senator Godswill Akpabio with the active participation of Hon. Emmanuel Akpan and Hon. Nse Ntuen who were, until their purported withdrawal candidates of the APC for the legislative seats. It was in fact that degree of violence that led to the cancellation of elections in Essien Udim and the order for a re-run to be conducted. Unfortunately, the violence dispensers are at it again, ready to disrupt again the peaceful conduct of the re-run at Essien Udim Local Government Area.

The Eye witness, who pleaded anonymity told our team of reporters who arrived Essien Udim since yesterday to monitor the elections that he narrowly escaped the claws of the APC at about 6 am this morning around Independence High School as he was trying to make his way to his home town, Ukana Uwa West 2, to participate at the elections. Narrating his experience, he says armed and heavily built boys on army camouflage stopped him for a check up and he stopped thinking there were men of the Nigerian army only to identify one of them as an indigene of the community who carries on his trade as a mechanic at Ikot Ekpene park. He says when the boy also identified him, he ordered for his beating with the orders; "na PDP boy, na PDP boy, mek him no pass..." and he had to speed off to escape what may have been his death.

At the time of filing this report, the atmosphere in Essien Udim is tensed, most indigenes who have spoken to our reporters are unanimous in their opinion that the likes of Senator Godswill Akpabio, Emmanuel Akpan and Nse Ntuen cannot just withdraw from an elections without a fight. There opine that their withdrawal may be a cover for a planned large scale violence on Essien Udim people.

Recall that yesterday, January 24, 2020 all candidates of the All Progressives Congress, Akwa Ibom State for the Essien Udim re-run, withdrew from the re-run in what has been described by political commentators as the most shameful display of cowardice. Their withdrawal leaves all the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party at the thresholds of victory.

PRESS STATEMENT

The attention of the Board and Management of Akwa Savings & Loans Limited has been drawn to a video from an unidentified source making rounds on various social media platforms alleging that the Bank is going through financial challenges due to funding of 2019 gubernatorial elections.

Ordinarily, this mischievous video does not deserve an official response but the Bank is constrained to make some clarification to avoid a situation where outright falsehood unchallenged, may be misconstrued for the truth by the unsuspecting public.

For the records, Akwa Savings & Loans Limited did not and cannot fund any political event including elections as this is against the conditions by which its mortgage license was issued by the CBN.

The Bank’s recent challenge due to delinquent debtors has nothing to do with the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

If anything, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has worked very hard to ensure that the license of the Bank is preserved despite its challenges and his efforts are most appreciated.

As the only indigenous financial institution in Akwa Ibom State, the Bank has received and is extremely grateful for the tremendous support of the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel in its effort to restructure and reposition the Bank for profitability.

Consequently, we wish to advise the authors and purveyors of this ill-conceived video to desist from tarnishing the image of this great legacy of the people of Akwa Ibom State and that of His Excellency who is working hard to ensure the viability of the Bank.

We hereby urge the public to disregard this video and demand that the original purveyor make a public retraction of the video and offer an unreserved apology within seven (7) days or our legal department will be left with no option than to engage the legal process.

ONOFIOK AKPAN LUKE: THE STONE THE BUILDERS REJECTED

Onofiok while growing up developed majuscule interest in social advocacy. He discovered that talking, and wishing things would fall the right track for the people wouldn't yield any positive result. So he ventured into active students union activities as a step, back then in the prestigious University of Uyo.

Each time he mobilized campaigns that saw the emergence of students union Government leaders in school, he discovered that immediately after inauguration, their campaign promises for change became change of campaign promises; some of them would even sacrifice the interest and welfare of the students on the altar of selfish/personal interests.

Being constantly disappointed, Onofiok one day wake to the astonishment of students, declared an interest to run as the Students Union Government President. His aspiration rekindle in the students, hope that had long lost. Severally, he had maintained that he doesn't have much to spend lobbying students for their support, but if elected into office, he will offer himself as the sacrifice for things to go well for the students.

He didn't have to spend much. The students had contributed some money for his nomination form, and had also taken on themselves the burden of his campaign's expenses. While trying to brief thousands of his supporters on a faithful day, he wept. The love showered on him by the students was unprecedented. He was short of words. He didn't know how to express his heartfelt gratitude than to shed those tears. Finally, he was able to say something. " I wouldn't have had the money to purchase my nomination form if not because of all of you here. I wouldn't have been able to embark on campaigns if not because of you all. By God's grace, I'll emerge as the SUG President. I will against all odds restore the lost glory of the Nigerian students. My loyalty to Nigerian students at every point in time will be unnegotiable. Take me, I offer myself as a living sacrifice to your course".

The message had touched the heart of students. It was like a breath of freah air. No one wanted to be left behind for it was what every students had hoped for. On the election date, Onofiok recorded a flawless victory. I didn't mean to say that other contenders didn't try their best in the election. They were very popular, richer and more connected than Onofiok. But in all of these, none of them could score up to 15% of Onofiok's vote.

Having beheld his popularity, the school authority as at then became afraid that the young Onofiok would not by any way succumb to their wishes. So they delayed his inauguration for about six (6) months after the election. This was the first of its kind anywhere in the country.

Six months later, he was inaugurated as the President, and the first meeting he had with the management of the school was for the negotiation of a 55% increment in school fee. In that same meeting, he was told of a certain percentage that would be accrued to him from the deal per student's head. Considering his financial background, Onofiok would have become a millionaire as a student with this offer, but he kicked against it. He insisted that if the school management should go ahead in implementing the increment, he will definitely stand by the students to organize a protest against them. They thought the young man was a joke, that he would come back to ask for his share of the deal at the appointed time.

Few days later, the increment in school fee was implemented and announced. Just as promised, the SUG President led the entire students on a peaceful protest against the decision of the management. The news was everywhere, so the Federal Ministry of Education had to step in. The 55% increment in school fee was abolished. The Management became angered and was combing everywhere for the slightest means where they could deal with Onofiok in a special way.

Few of his friends and some students were invited for a meeting with the management. They were given heavy amount of money to testify against him that he is a cultist. Foolishly, they got the money, and the accusation was everywhere that the SUG President is a cultist. Having brought before the management, they didn't wait for findings to be made. And because they were the brain behind the satanic accusation, innocent and God-fearing Onofiok was removed from office as the SUG President. It's on records that he was the shortest served SUG President in Nigeria, and till date, the record is unbroken. He was inaugurated on August and removed in September. But within a month, he had done for the students what no students leader had done, even till date.

Shortly after his removal from Office as the SUG President, the school Management were still unsatisfied that Onofiok was in school. They again induced some students which afterwards, mobilized a protest against the Management. They made it looked as if the protest was Onofiok's brainwork. Maybe in a bid to avenge his removal from office as the President. Things were destroyed and students were injured in the cause of the protest. The scenario had went beyond an ordinary protest, it was more of a cult fight. Because in every crime, there must be a punishment, Onofiok was expelled from school for something he had no knowledge of. The news was everywhere that Onofiok is expelled from school because of cult activities. Guess what! The same students he fought for were the ones helping to disseminate the news. Very few students knew what was going on, but they were unable to speak out for the fear of unknown. This was a conspiracy and betrayal against someone with the purest heart.

Having spent some time at home wallowing in pains and agony caused him by the same students he staked his life and education to protect, he got a message that he was recalled to school. Calling him back to school was so possible but graduating him with his grades ( first class) was quite very impossible if not that some big men both in the State and Abuja had shown interest in his case.

Just like Jephtha who was begged to become the head over the same people that neglected, rejected and betrayed him earlier in life, Onofiok Luke was compelled into becoming the Alumni President of Uniuyo. The same school he was betrayed, innocently punished, and nearly ruined.

Uniuyo, a school that has graduated millions of people. Some of which are National Assembly Members, Ministers, governors, Commissioners, State Lawmakers, Local Government Chairmen, renown business gurus, medical and law practitioners, educationists, farmers, assassins, kidnappers, preachers as well as armed robbers, even mad men. It would be entirely difficult for one to believe that amongst them, none could meet the criteria of contesting against Onofiok as the Alumni President of the institution.

Maybe they felt that the only way they could re-right the wrongs done on him in time past was to make him the leader of the institution's alumni. And attesting to his leadership prowess, they believed he was the only one who would introduce innovative ideas in the association, thereby making her more effective. This, they made sure he had no opponent in the election. It's my candid opinion though. But whatever the case may be, the gods are wise!

NEW YEAR PACKAGE: GOV EMMANUEL COMMENCES NEW CIVIL SERVANTS MINIMUM WAGE DECEMBER 2019

To further demonstrate his commitment as one of the most workers' friendly Governors in the country,
Governor Udom Emmanuel has approved the implementation of the new N30,000 minimum wage in Akwa Ibom state with effect from December 2019.

According to a release by the Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien the gesture is, "in fulfillment of his earlier assurances to the workers on the implementation of the New National Minimum Wage."

"His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, has adopted and approved the payment of the New Minimum Wage in Akwa Ibom State with the Federal Government Negotiated Consequential adjustment percentages increase with effect from January, 2020."

He explained that the Governor who approved the new minimum wage to be paid commencing this month, also directed that the December increase arrears be paid in subsequent months.

"In effect, with the payment of the approved one (1) month arrears, payment of the new minimum wage in Akwa Ibom State
covers December, 2019.

"The State Government hereby appreciates the workers for their patience and understanding and urges them to reciprocate this gesture with dedication to duty, to fast-track the actualization of
the completion agenda.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Akwa Ibom State, has of late, been inundated with enquiries as to whether political parties can substitute candidates in the upcoming rerun elections in Essien Udim LGA, scheduled for 25th January, 2020.

The Commission wishes to restate that there will be no substitution or withdrawal of candidates who contested the 2019 general elections in this court-ordered rerun elections in Essien Udim LGA.

EFFECTIVE AND IMPACTFUL REPRESENTATION: THE STORY OF MICHAEL ENYONG



The name Rt. Hon.(Dr). Michael Enyong, Member representing Ibesikpo Asutan/Nsit Atai/Uruan/Uyo Federal Constituency resonates hope for the hopeless; reverberates people's oriented leadership and re-echoes strength for the weak and downtrodden. In fact, the name is synonymous with effective representation.

Leadership is about taking a people from a place of despair to a place of hope, perhaps pointing to and leading them to where they would heave a sigh of relief. This is what Dr. Enyong, popularly known as Baba Ntan, lives for.

From childhood, he has been portraying the rare attributes of defending the oppressed. He made himself the only voice that spoke for the forsaken then. He cared for the street children. He provided for those who never had hope of the future. He was known for speaking the truth and standing for what is right. Maybe, no one really knew that divinity had chiseled a pathway that Dr Enyong would follow to liberate God's people from the bondage and shackles of poverty.

Like Moses in the Bible, Dr. Michael Enyong at different occasions, has through several initiatives and pet projects tackled the twin evil of poverty and unemployment. It is on record that he has secured not less than 83 job opportunities to his constituents, spread across the four Local Government Areas of Ibesikpo Asutan, Nsit Atai, Uruan and Uyo. In the last six months, Baba Ntan has gainfully employed 17 of his constituents in different federal agencies, a feat that no Federal lawmaker, past and present has attained. This is laudable.

Dr. Enyong whom I recently discovered to be a silent achiever is not only vocal and very influential at the Green Chambers, but has brought to bear his wealth of experiences in the discharge of his duties. As business man cum politician, he has sponsored several bills that have make the Nigerian business environment conducive for business growth and entrepreneurial development. Yet, he has not blown his trumpet. He is a silent achiever.

No wonder why he is the Chairman House Committee on Solid Minerals, a seven-in-one committee that gives him the ample opportunity to traverse different agencies, meeting with expatriates and other stakeholders in that sector. With one man overseeing such enormous responsibility, one wonders whether he even has time for himself and family. But he never complained, because the zeal of representing his constituents effectively has eaten him up. And now, Dr Enyong breathes, feels and dreams of eradicating poverty completely from his constituency. This is the essence of representation.

Since assumption of office as a federal lawmaker in 2015, Dr Enyong has not left any stone unturned in putting smile on the faces of his constituents through various empowerment programmes. He is one man that generosity connotes his name. He gives passionately. He gives with love. He gives sacrificially and above all, he gives to the people that need it most. He is one liberal soul whose kind is rare to come by in this part of the clime.

He has not gone to the House of Representative to sleep. He has not gone there to loot. He is not only there for his immediate constituency, but for the entire Akwa Ibom people. When you see Baba Ntan at the National Assembly, you see Akwa Abasi Ibom State. You see a great people bundled up in one gentleman who is not always afraid to speak the truth, even in the face of oppression. He abhors injustice and fraud.

Time will fail if I attempts to tell what Baba Ntan has achieved so far in one piece, but to make you to be abreast with his representation, I will be giving you a "sip" of the wine of his representation, each time, for your satisfaction.

The truth is, Dr Enyong represents what is right, what is true, what is of good report, what will make the people rejoice and what will make Akwa Ibom great.

Human Capacity Development: INOYO TORO FOUNDATION set to develop next Nollywood stars in Akwa Ibom

As part of its contributions to human capital development, The InoyoToro Foundation in partnership with Royal Arts Academy, has introduced another human capacity initiative aimed at placing Akwa Ibom at the top of the chart in the nation's entertainment industry. The foundation, in partnership with Royal Arts Academy is set to commence a training program for those interested in the movie and entertainment industry.

A statement by the Foundation made available to newsmen indicates that the Royal Arts Academy, a renowned social service provider committed to capacity development in the performing arts (the movie industry) will commence its operations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and will be providing training in script writing, editing, movie directing, cinematography, acting and presentation.

According to the statement, participants would be put through practical film making sessions and will be attached to reputable institutions to sharpen their skills in film making and other related activities.

The training which is billed to commence by the end of January, 2020 is offered in certificate courses spanning a period of 3 months.

AKWA IBOM POLITICS: CONSPIRACY, BETRAYAL AND THE STORY OF SHIMEI season1

There was a man in the Bible called Shimei. He was one of the allies to Absalom, the son of King David. They were on a mission to tumble King David's throne. Because of his extreme loyalty for Prince Absalom, Shimei approached King David, cursing and casting stones on him.


At a long run, King David noticed that so many of his closest friends had betrayed him. They amalgamated with Absalom in order to destroy him. The worst of them all was Hushai the Archite, David's best friend. I don't know how David felt when he beheld all the atrocious deeds of his son and friends against him. I would be compelled to believe that indeed, those days were terrible moments for him.


To shorten the story for the sake of time and patient, Absalom was destroyed in the heat of the battle, Shimei survived. As years gone by, King David was gone and the mantle of kingship was passed on to Solomon.


After the emergence of Solomon as king, some people believed the only way they would gain favor from the new king was to backbite and condemn others before the king. This, they intimated the king all that Shimei had done against his late father, King David. They even added jara to his deeds inorder for his cup to be filled without delay. At a point, they conspired, compelling the king to kill Shimei. These are the conspirators of the present day Akwa Ibom State politics. They can't stop recounting one's sins before top Government officials. As a matter of fact, this is the only avenue they can get favor from top Government officials. This is because outside condemning others, they're not good at anything else. You know them and if you're given a little time to form a list, the State wouldn't contain everyone again


King Solomon after all the condemnation of Shimei by some people, decided to make him live but on a condition. " And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any whither. For it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head". This condition was as good as death, but Shimei had tried his best to live. But the odds were higher than he thought.


After three years, Shimei's servant fled to Gath, and this was told to Shimei. Immediately, Shimei saddled his ass and went to Gath to bring back his servants. Even before he had arrived Gath, King Solomon was aware and while coming back, the king was also aware. Now tell me. Was King Solomon a spirit to know all of Shimei's movements? No! The same people that had compelled him to kill Shimei never stopped at the audio blackmail. They wanted to show the King proves why he should always count on them. This, they monitored Shimei from the first day, feeding the king with informations till the last day. My spirit is telling me that they were the same people that went and told Shimei's servants to flee to Gath for an enticing reason known to them. Immediately they fled, they were the same people that went to Shimei to inform him of his servants journey to Gath. If Shimei was not rightly informed, how did he know his servants were in Gath? To end the story, these were the same people that went and tipped the king of Shimei's movement out of Israel. These same men are in Akwa Ibom State today. Until their targets are disgracefully disgraced, they'll never be excited. They're the witches of the Akwa Ibom State politics. They derive pleasure in seeing one's fall. They're in government and parties in the State.


The conspiracies in Akwa Ibom politics did not start today, it started since the days of the South-Eastern States. After the amalgamation, certain people from a certain tribe in Akwa Ibom got envious of another tribe who they believed were favored with critical and sensitive positions. After their efforts to condemn these appointees before the authorities failed, they went down to a physical elimination of these people. They were assassinated one after the other and at last, they were able to eliminate all of them and power was shifted to their domain. This was the beginning of conspiracy and betrayal in Akwa Ibom politics.

It could be recalled that in 2007, twins who returned from the US were assassinated in Uyo in a broad daylight. These two young men were the only children of the Chief and gang leader who took upon himself, the execution of those chiefs during the days of the South-Eastern States.

When others wept for the wrongly execution of these two men, I didn't shiver because God had said that the punishment for the sins of the father will be placed on the children, to the third generation. Crimes and punishment are the twin brothers of destiny,
but it's saddening that this particular family was completely wiped out without a reminder.


Sometime in 2003, the then Deputy Governor of the State, Engr. Christopher Ekpenyong who's the Senator representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly, was removed from office because of the conspiracies by his most trusted little friend and brother.


One faithful day, this desperado went to Chris Ekpenyong to inform him of Ette's, dissatisfaction in him. The Ette in this context was the then governor of the State, Obong Victor Attah. Chris Ekpenyong knowing his steadfastness and loyalty to his boss, was afraid of being removed because of his boss' anger towards him. He asked what he should do to appease his boss. The mistake he made was that instead of inquiring from the adviser of doom the possible cause of Ette's furiousness over him, he moved into finding possible solutions for the purported damage. How would you correct a mistake you're yet to ascertain how it occurred?


Because he was so interested in appeasing his boss rather than knowing the cause of his anger, Ekpenyong was deceived that if he visits the governor with a cow, have a heart-to-heart conversation with the governor, things would get better. Ekpenyong went to visit his boss, the governor with a cow just as advised. They had some time together but truly, the governor's countenance was bad immediately he saw Ekpenyong in the Lodge. Was this because the governor was truly angry at his Deputy? No. The governor was given a bad pre-information about his Deputy's visit. So his bad countenance was a concurrent reaction to what he had heard and what he saw that day.

Before Chris Ekpenyong could arrive the Governor's Lodge with the cow as advised, the same person who advised him had also ran to a prophet. Paid him heavily to go to the Lodge and inform the governor that God opened his eyes to see someone presenting a poisoned cow to him as a gift. The prophet also told the governor that God said if he should eat the cow, he'll die alongside anyone who eats it. Finally, he instructed the governor that once the person arrives with the cow, he shouldn't reject, but should order that the cow be taken to the backyard of the Lodge. That by morning, the cow will die as the resultant effects of the poison in its body. The governor gave him another brown envelope, in addition to the one he got from the Chief Conspirator.

Shortly after the prophet had departed from the Lodge, Obong Attah was told that Chris Ekpenyong was around to see him. What he saw was an half manifestation of the prophecy by the prophets, but he didn't want to believe. He still had a part of him that respected and loved Chris Ekpenyong as his friend and brother despite the scenario. But as instructed, he ordered that the cow be tied at the backyard of the Lodge. On that faithful night, the conspirator had handsomely paid one of the securities at the Lodge to inject the cow with poison. Just as the prophet had said, it was told to the governor that the cow gift from his Deputy is dead. Obong Attah was in great pains, but he still had this part of him doubting the whole drama.

Again, the master of conspiracy visited the Deputy Governor. He pleaded that for Ette to be very happy with him, he must go to the Lodge and accompany Ette for morning mass on Sunday. The man resisted but he cited reasons why accompanying the governor to church on Sunday morning was pertinent. Because Ekpenyong wanted to save his job, he adhered to the advice, appreciated him and gave him some money for always wanting his success and happiness. I learnt that a new Prado Jeep was also given to him by Ekpenyong that same day.

Immediately, he left Ekpenyong to another prophet. He used the same money that was given to him by the Deputy Governor, paid him and sent him on another errand. Because what money cannot do, more money can do, he accepted and went to the Governor's Lodge. On seeing the governor, he started by narrating to him the prophecy a strange prophet had given to him few days back. He landed by telling him the new prophecy his acclaimed God had for the governor.

The governor was told that there's a plan by some people somewhere to kill him so that another person could take over as governor. Obong Attah doubted the authenticity of this particular prophecy but the prophet asked him to relax. He informed him that the first visitor that comes to the Lodge on Sunday morning to see him, he should not have an handshake with the person, else he'll die. The prophet left.

By 6:00am on Sunday, the Deputy Governor, Chris Ekpenyong was in the governor's Lodge so he could accompany his boss, the governor for church. He was indeed the first visitor at the Lodge that faithful day. The governor was informed that a visitor was around to join him to Church. The governor came out, he saw his Deputy, Chris Ekpenyong.

Chris Ekpenyong in an unusual way smiled and brought out his hand for an handshake with the governor. Imagine Ukarakpa smiling. His smile could be linked to that of former President Obasanjo anytime he's in a happy mood. His smile at that morning irritated his boss, the governor.

Why did he smile on seeing the governor? That means there's something bad he was nurturing in his heart against the governor. If you were in the position of the then governor, you would feel the same way. I don't know how they planned this thing. I don't know if they had visited a babalawo for this. But I want to state that they were genius to have executed the job perfectly.

This was a fulfilment of the prophecy by the prophet. The governor yelled " Ekpenyong what have I done to you that you hate me with passion? Why do you want to kill me? Yours truly, that was the end of Chris Ekpenyong as the the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State. In Obong Attah's mind, God has disgraced you, Ekpenyong today. God thank you for saving me and my family. But all these were wash.

But on a sad note, the Chief Conspirator of the State had thought he would be appointed the Deputy Governor after the removal of Chris Ekpenyong as Deputy Governor. But it turned out that he was not appointed. Instead, he was tossed around from one office to the other like a ball boy.

After Chris Ekpenyong's removal as Deputy Governor of the State, it became a curse that every governor must have more than one deputy before the expiration of his tenure. Obong Attah had two, Chief Akpabio had three. It's quite unfortunate that the incumbent, Gov. Udom Emmanuel has decided to stick to one deputy from 2015 till date. This clearly signify that if at the expiration of his tenure as governor by 2023 he's still unwilling to replace his present deputy with another, the generational curse of having more than a deputy must have been broken. Could Udom Emmanuel be the savior?

Speaking during the commissioning of the building at Ikot Ebre community in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, he stated that his representation at the National Assembly will remain people-centred.

Baba Ntan as the federal lawmaker is fondly called, said he met the beneficiary, Mr. Sunday Anietie Udoekong, at the annual PDP meeting in Ibesikpo Asutan on 26th December 2018 and was moved by his passion for the party despite being physically challenged, hence he promised to build a two bedroom flat for him.

Enyong who is the Chairman Committee on Solid Minerals in the House of Representatives also donated N1 million each to five indigenes of Ibesikpo Asutan as part of his constituency reach out in the yuletide.

The beneficiary of the two bedroom bungalow, Anietie Sunday Udoekong, who could not hold back his joy, thanked Baba Ntan for the kind gesture which he described as unmerited favour on him.

Beneficiaries of the largess included Madam Mfonobong Jackson Ekanem, Imaobong Friday, Eteidung Edem Moses, Ntiedo Ben and Etop Jonathan.

COULD INSECURITY, WRECKLESS SPENDINGS, EARN AKPABIO BETTER RATINGS THAN UDOM?

Virtually every active social media user has come across the debate on who served Akwa Ibom State better between the former Governor Godswill Akpabio and the incumbent Udom Emmanuel.

The serial comparison by a certain Iniobong John and his cohorts, attempts to highlight projects and accomplishments of the previous government with the projects of the present government.

While the comparison is ongoing, it is worthy of note that the energy with which the media hirelings dissipate falsehood, transmit propaganda, resonate defamation and hate speech against the government is unfathomable.
Rather than comparing trends, investigating incongruities and calling for interviews, most writers have become lazy, stoic and dependent hungry defamers, cooking up nonexistent stories from the comfort of their homes and reducing their self-worth to a token of chicken change.

As a matter of fact, the best time to compare who served better is not now but after the expiration of the present government’s tenure. Comparison is confirmed when two objects of equal weights are weighed on a balance hence, comparing an 8-year-old government with one which is less than 5 years old is totally unreasonable.

Secondly, leadership has its style, approach and pattern. Every leader coming on board must have carefully understood this and mapped out their strategies for effectiveness. Good leaders particularly take advantage of the weaknesses of their predecessors and try to bridge the gaps of inadequacies from such angles but importantly, every government has its agenda.

There are visionary leaders, and there are notorious leaders. Both have a way of making impact but the legacies they leave behind are the distinctive works which follow them.
Sadam Hussein for instance was a notorious leader who carried out a lot of developmental projects in Iraq just like Ghaddafi in Lybia, but both nations were blacklisted globally.

Akpabio may have done a couple of projects as claimed by those comparing but Emmanuel is by all stretch of imaginations, better. For one, none of the so called projects of the immediate past regime, as cost intensive as they could be, can be said to be spinning revenue into the State's coffers.

It takes vision to build a future with certainty and Udom Emmanuel is that visionary leader. His dream from the onset has been to transform Akwa Ibom State from a Civil Service-oriented economy to a private sector-driven society where Akwa Ibomites can be bosses of their own and less dependent on the government for means of livelihood.

The governor’s commitment to the transformation of the state has manifested in the coming on stream of over 18 industries in the state so far, as well as the flagging-off of the Ibom Blue Sea Science and Technology Park by a Chinese consortium which is expected to come into operation in the next 2 or 3 years.

Governor Emmanuel’s four years in office came with a boost of safety of lives and property, peace, more investments, accommodation of political interests, zero intimidation, zero kidnapping spree and zero countless killings which characterized the previous administration. The summary is that people can now sleep with their two eyes closed; those who fled the state are returning and small scale enterprises are being boosted due to the business-friendly environment and policies of his administration.
The governor’s focus on industrialization is the reason we have the Ibom Deep Seaport on course, Ibom Air which will soon commence Cameroun-Nigerian route and other international operations, as well as other huge income-generating industries which the paid blackmail kingpins are paying a blind eye to.

Thirdly, the economy in which the past administration reigned was far nourished and serviced than what obtains today. Akpabio came and received the arrears of allocation of what Obasanjo had taken, brought back from the onshore offshore dichotomy. So the state allocation was much better then. What is 12 -13billion a month, compared to 40-50billion received during Akpabio's era.

The then Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had at a public function in 2013 gave the federal government allocation to Akwa Ibom State as $1.7 billion (N260 billion), adding that the infrastructure on ground was not comparable to the revenue accruable.

But in 2018, the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) review showed that Akwa Ibom State received N143.6 billion. With these statistics, it is evident that to whom mush is given, much is expected.

It is even more noteworthy to state that Governor Udom Emmanuel is not seeking applause in his development-drive for the people, neither is he in competition with anybody but is on a serious committed and calculated process of transformation. As such, he cannot be distracted by criticisms which lack merit.

All Akpabio did was for the people of Akwa Ibom and all Emmanuel is doing is still for the people of Akwa Ibom. Rather than glory in the past that was marred by sordid memories and lament the present, those orchestrating these worthless comparisons should wait till 2023, after the expiration of Governor Emmanuel’s tenure before bringing out their scale of comparison.

Then will they be able to tell who served us better and, while they wait, they should channel their energy and resources into encouraging Governor Emmanuel, and desist from Ph.D (Pull him Down) fever.

& AKPABIO'S SQUANDERING OF AKWA IBOM COMMONWEALTH

As Gov Godswill Obot Akpabio's regime comes to its inevitable end, it is time we, the good and long suffering people of Akwa Ibom State, do a critical stocktaking of how he used our commonwealth.

Below is a current chart published by the Federal Ministry of Finance detailing the allocations that each of our 36 States and Abuja got from the Federation Account from January to June 2014.

As the figures show, Akwa Ibom tops the chart with a staggering 135.84 Billion naira. This is approximately 5 times what our neighbouring Cross River State, with 26.50 Billion naira, took home.

Very Interestingly, it equals the 135.43 Billion naira that all the 5 Igbo-speaking South Eastern states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States got. It is also noteworthy that our 135.84 Billion naira is a wee-bit more than the 132.96 Billion naira that all of Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo put together got.

Since 2007 up till date, Akwa Ibom State has got some 3 Trillion Naira from the Federation Account. Applying the same allocation formula above, it means Gov Akpabio's government has got 5 times what Cross River got; and nearly equal what the 5 Igbo-speaking States have got in the same period.

Akwa Ibom people, take a critical look at all that Akpabio has signposted as the hall marks of his so called "uncommon transformation" and ask yourselves: what is the primary responsibility of any responsible and respectable government if not the provision of basic amenities In this regard, what is "uncommon" about a government building roads, renovating some selected schools, constructing a stadium and investing in a wasteful white elephant project called "Tropicana Entertainment Complex"

In any event, I have consistently asserted that considering the staggering volume of money that we've got from the Federation Account since Gov Godswill Obot Akpabio entered the Hilltop mansion, it is patently and totally wrong to palm of his meagre achievements as icons of "uncommon" infrastructural development. In view that our total revenue under Gov Akpabio's watch is about 5 times that of Cross River State and equal that of the 5 Igbo-speaking South Eastern states, we can only be correct to say Akpabio has recorded "uncommon transformation" if all that his government has achieved in terms of infrastructural development, employment generation, security, education and health is 5 times what Cross River has chalked or it approximates what ALL the 5 South Eastern states have achieved within the same time frame. We are giving this generous latitude without considering population and land mass.

Truth be told, I am inclined to believe that the Godswill Akpabio era has been a period of uncommon profligacy and fiscal recklessness. Indeed, when we factor in Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's revelatory and uncontroverted assertion that what the Godswill Obot Akpabio's administration has spent on infrastructure since he assumed power in 2007 is less than 5% of the total Federal Allocations to the State, one cannot help but conclude the Akwa Ibom people have been criminally shortchanged and fleeced eight years running.

Akwa Ibom people, it is time we all rise and demand of Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio to furnish us with a clear record of how he spent the about 3 Trillion Naira that accrued to the State since he became our governor. We want to know how much we are owing who and why. Akwa Ibom people want to know why there is unprecedented mass unemployment of our youths and why there is so much hunger in our land in spite of our enormous petrodollar.

A REFLECTION ON SEN.AKPABIO'S ERA OF UNCOMMON TRANSFORMATION

Under Akpabio's watch, Akwa Ibom State has witnessed so much politically motivated killings, attacks and violence. The situation is so precarious that the streets of Akwa Ibom State is literary littered with the blood of innocent citizens, political opponents and critics of the regime.

The gruesome assasination of a House of Assembly candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress ( APC ) and former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Okon Uwah by assassins and thugs of the ruling party on Wednesday 18th March, 2015 reportedly led by the Vice Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government Area of the State, Mr. Effiom Abai who has been arrested by the police has once again brought to the fore the barbarism and the politics of blood that has turned the once peaceful state into an animal farm.

Quoting an annual report by the Nigeria Police Force, a Sunday PUNCH report of November 21, 2010 (page 3) said there were 74,064 murders and similar cases in Nigeria within two years. A state-by-state analysis of this report ranks Akwa Ibom State with a population of 3.9m (2006 estimate) as being the highest with preponderance of such crimes.

The police report said in 2009 alone, Akwa Ibom recorded 177 murders (most of which are said to be politically motivated), 62 attempted murders, one manslaughter, eight suicides, 21 attempted suicides, 320 assaults, 18 child stealing, and indecent assaults, 29 kidnappings, among others. The 2011 figures marked a remarkable increase when compared to 2007. Few examples will suffice.

Engr. Albert Jimmy Ukpanah, an outspoken chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party was a vociferous opponent of the 2015 senatorial ambition of Gov. Akpabio. Like several other persons in his area that subscribe to the PDP zoning policy, he believed that it was the turn of his area (Abak Federal Constituency) to produce the next senator to represent the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State in the Senate come 2015. He saw Akpabio's Senate bid as a grave injustice to his people.

On March 12, 2014 Engr. Ukpanah was hacked to death by assassins at his residence. His only son, Odudu Ukpanah, a masters degree holder in Oil and Gas Management from Coventry University, United Kingdom has been incarcerated since 27th May, 2014 on the orders of governor Akpabio on the baseless allegation that he murdered the very father who sponsored his Masters Degree in the UK. Despite the cries of the three sisters of Odudu that their brother is innocent and should be freed, Akpabio has remained unruffled. The mother of the slain politician is critically down with cancer, pakinson and stroke.

Dr. Ime Sampson Umanah, a prominent elder statesman and philanthropist who played an important role in the creation of Akwa Ibom State was arrested and detained for being critical of the nefarious activities of governor Akpabio. He has been standing trial since October 2010 without any plausible evidence of crime against him.

Sen. Helen Esuene, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs was attacked on 5th October, 2014 in Essien Udim LGA while on a campaign tour by armed thugs for daring to campaign in the governor's town. She later decamped to the Labour Party where she was offered the gubernatorial ticket to contest for the 2015 governorship election in the State.

Mr. Sunny Udom, the Director General of the campaign organization of the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, escaped assassination in July 2014 when armed bandits invaded his office in Uyo. Fortunately for him, the criminals didn't meet him but his office was shattered with gunshots.

In December 2013, Mr Umana Umana himself received a written threat at his Uyo residence ordering him to withdraw from the 2015 governorship race or face death. He immediately reported the threat to the police, but was shocked to learn that the governor had also ordered the withdrawal of his police protection.

Engr. Emmanuel Okon Ekpenyong and his brother Mr. Mathias Okon Ekpenyong were murdered on June 30, 2011 reportedly for refusing to part with their sand quarry site which they inherited from their father as demanded by those who feel they own Akwa Ibom. One Dagogo Minago, alias Puff Daddy admitted to the killing of the Ekpenyong brothers. Instead of prosecuting the confessed killer and going after those who sponsored him, the State Attorney General hurriedly entered a nolle prosequi (a discontinuance) in the case.

Shockingly, the government framed up and detained one Dr. Chris Ekong, a former Commissioner in the State and three others and charged them to court for the murder of the Ekpenyong brothers. Not done, the government arrested, detained and charged Mr. Fabian Ekpenyong (the only surviving Ekpenyong brothers) for the murder of his own brothers for refusing to give false evidence against Mr. Chris Ekong and three other innocent persons. Eventually, the court discharged and acquitted all of them of all the charges.

Engr. Ini Udonwa who had indicated interest to vie for the gubernatorial election on the platform of PDP in 2011 was attacked by kidnappers, he narrowly escaped death but his mother, Mrs Philomina Udonwa was kidnapped, raped, killed and her corpse dumped by the roadside because his overseas based son dared to vie for the governorship of his state despite repeated warnings to withdraw from the race.

Chief Paul Inyang, a former Zonal Officer of the Peoples Democratic Party who was favoured to emerge as the State party chairman was gruesomely assassinated on Sunday June 20, 2010.

Dr. Akpan Akpanudo, a young medical doctor was assassinated on January 1, 2011 because he left his profession to seek election into the State House of Assembly.

Retired General Edet Akpan, former Director General of National Youth Service Corp and a PDP stalwart, was kidnapped in the Church ostensibly for his refusal to support Akpabio’s re election. Three female members of the Church were killed in the process. It took the intervention of the Nigerian military for him to be rescued.

Edidem Robert Obot, the Oku Ibom 111 (leader of the Ibibios) and Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area who had became a thorn in the flesh of the powers that be in the state was murdered on 30th January, 2011. This is the first Paramount Ruler to assassinated in the history of Nigeria.

Chief Effiong Ononokpono, an outspoken and fearless octogenarian and political activist had raised some fundamental questions pertaining to the affairs and resources of the State for Governor Akpabio to answer in the Nation Newspaper. Instead of answering the questions, Governor Akpabio ordered his arrest. He was charged to court on trump - up charges and remanded in prison custody from March 25, 2010 to May 14, 2010. His health condition deteriorated and on December 7, 2010, he died.

Barr. Imo Udonwa, a prominent member of PDP in the State and former member of the State House of Assembly and an associate of former Governor Victor Attah, was murdered because of his rumoured aspiration to vie for the chairmanship of the PDP in the State.

On July 16, 2011, one Abasiema Sunday Peters, was shot on both legs by the security detail of the Governor Akpabio's wife because he did not drive off the road fast enough as the governor's wife convoy drove by. The young man was not given any medical treatment. Rather, he was arrested together with the other occupants of the vehicle who were all students of the state owned Polytechnic and detained by the ever unprofessional Nigeria Police Force. The parents of the young lads had to spend much resources to secure the release of their children.

The list is endless.

Following the pre - election violence that engulfed the State in 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan who has completely closed his eyes to Governor Akpabio's reign of impunity set - up a Panel of Enquiry to investigate the violence that trailed the 2011 elections in the State headed by Sheik Ahmed Lemu. On the sources of weapons used in the political violence which occurred in Akwa Ibom State the panel found that sophisticated weapons employed in state included "pistols, pump action guns, RPGs, grenades, SMGs, AK 47s". This point is important because of the frequent and free use of weapons by hooligans who now feel immuned from criminal prosecution.

Late last year, the Department of State Service (DSS), Akwa Ibom State Command, embarked on a covert operation which led to the recovery of arms in the state? (See. Punch Newspaper of October 5, 2014). The proliferation of arms in the state is one of the legacies of Governor Akpabio. Before Akpabio’s emergence, cases of killings and political violence was rare in the state. Today, everyone lives in fear, things have fallen apart and the centre can no longer hold. Security has completely eluded the oil rich state; it is either you are a sycophant of the government or an enemy.

With less than seventy (70) days to the ends of Akpabio's soulless, despotic and murderous regime, the state is again in flames. Some deceitful minds may seek to exonerate the governor from the killings and violence in the State. But the question is: would these nefarious crimes have taken place under the leadership of a governor who has aversion for criminality? Responsibility is the hallmark of leadership, someone has to account for the blood of innocent Nigerians that has been wasted in Akwa Ibom State since May 29, 2007 to date.

Painfully, no one has been prosecuted for these atrocities against humanity. People who ordinarily shouldn't be heard in public are the ones calling the shots in Akwa Ibom State. Touts, illiterates, cultists and thugs are being venerated by the political class. The good people have been completely relegated under Akpabio. Governance has been reduced to a full blown criminal enterprise.

When I consider the many threats to my life for refusing to dine with the scavengers of democracy in my dear State, it becomes morally compelling to speak out so that history may vindicate us. Akwa Ibom people have had enough of this impunity and terror. Akpabio should know that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is still in existence. Therefore, if he escapes justice in 'Jonathan's Nigeria', the international community will bring him to justice.

Enough is enough!

TRUMPETS SOUND FOR GOVERNOR EMMANUEL'S SUPREME COURT VICTORY

The capital city of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo and its environs were on Wednesday engulfed with sounds of trumpets in celebration of the overwhelming Supreme Court victory for Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Spotted at strategic positions from the Ibom Plaza, a tourist paradise, sitting in the beautiful and culturally rich Uyo city, to the Ibom Hall Arena, venue for the 2019 Ibom Christmas Carol, Akwa Ibom people gathered singing, dancing and rejoicing, offering praises to God for affirming Governor Emmanuel's victory once again.

The Christmas Village at the Ibom Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue, was not left out when the Vice Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Hon. Ukai Udeme Emmanuel, led the people to patronize those selling at the place.

Governor Emmanuel, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary and Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Ekerete Udoh, extravagantly demonstrated appreciation to God, Akwa Ibom people and the judiciary.

He said “Earlier today, the Supreme Court affirmed the overwhelming victory the good people of Akwa Ibom State had given me, during the March 9th gubernatorial elections, thus ending the litigation that started at the Election Tribunal to Appeal Court and ending at the Supreme Court.

"Let me again, thank our ONLY GOD, our Supreme God for securing us this Supreme victory, and our people for their prayers and support during the elections and throughout the period of litigations."

The State Governor reiterated his commitment to diligently serve the good people of Akwa Ibom State, saying "The overwhelming mandate you gave me has galvanized and propelled me to continue to serve you with every fibre in me.

"We must secure our future today by laying the solid foundation for sustainable growth through the provision of enduring infrastructure, world-class healthcare delivery, education of our children that is tailored to the realities of the 21st Century globalized world, food sufficiency, continuous attraction of Foreign Direct Investments, expansion of our aviation industry, Power for all by 2021, human capacity development across board, tourism sports development etc."

He thanked the Nigerian Judiciary for being the last bastion for the common man by rising to defend democracy once again.

Governor Emmanuel however extended hands of fellowship to Akwa Ibom people on the other political divide, calling on them to join hands in building the State together, as the period of politicking and litigations are over, it’s time now for governance.

He urged them not to allow the flaming passions of partisan politics affect the cords of unity and love of Akwa Ibom, a piece of God’s own real estate.

The Supreme Court unanimously affirmed the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel, dismissing the appeal brought by Mr Nsima Ekere of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for lack of merit.

It would be recalled the Court of Appeal sitting Calabar, Cross River State, in November, dismissed the appeal filed by Nsima Ekere challenging the victory of Emmanuel Udom in the 2019 governorship election, and affirmed Udom as governor of the state as ruled by the elections petition tribunal.

The Court of Appeal held that the tribunal was right to have dismissed the petition filed by the APC on the basis that no credible evidence was provided against challenging Udom’s victory, and awarded the cost of N500,000 against Nsima Ekere.

NSIMA EKERE'S GOVERNORSHIP AMBITION: THE LAST BURIAL



The 2019 general election in Akwa Ibom State is one election people won't forget in a hurry. The election was marked with an intense fright due to series of mouthed threats of war by an unrepentant group of combatants.

While Sen. Akpabio who was the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District promised to unleash the Warsaw experience of the Adolf Hitler invasion of Poland, his Party's gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Nsima Ekere at the other end swore with his blood to employ the services of some highly decorated Niger Delta Militants to tumble the electioneering processes and destroy lives of non supporters. These terrorists he referred in a leaked tape as " Investors", who should not behave like "Contractors".

Unknowingly for them, their asseveration for war would not only expose the mien of men they are to the world, but was also going to send many of their fans into hiding on the election day. None of them wanted to be a casualty of the invasion of APC's combined force of Warsaw and Militants as promised by the duo.

Before they could realize the negative impacts their utterances and boasts had caused, the big fish, Sen. Godswill was mowed on his election day. If such calamity could befall the god of Ukana, APC supporters reasoned it was needless wasting their votes on Nsima whose fate had already been determined by Akpabio's woeful lost. Most of them dumped the Broom party for PDP on the eve of the governorship election, making it totally uneasy for APC to pull the highest votes in even a Local Government Area. Mkpo ndok!

Being dissatisfied with his election's outcome, the Akwa Ibom APC gubernatorial Candidate took a stroll to the Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the victory of his opponent, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who is the re-elected governor of the State. This was ONE mistake made, yet again by him.

Because he lost out in an election that was transparently conducted by someone whose integrity is proven and confirmed by all, including the International Community, Nsima Ekere while filling his petition failed to state a reasonable basis why the election should be annulled. He thought once he offers more money, everything would be changed for his favor. Uwafid ito!

Nsima Ekere who incessantly had bragged of pulling the highest votes in all the 31 Local Government Areas of the State, on reaching the Election Tribunal made himself an object of ridicule by divulging that election did not hold in any polling unit of the State. To be more explicit, Nsima's petition was nothing but an encyclopedia of confusion. Different paragraphs of it contained conflicting assertions. Some of the issues he raised were the issue of over-voting, non-compliance to electoral guidelines, malpractices, no election in any polling unit of the State, APC winning in the 31 LGA, 26 LGA and 2 LGAs respectively. But during cross-examination of witnesses, almost all his witnesses testified that election held and that it was peaceful and free. The incoherence nature of this particular petition was depressing. I wonder how his lawyers managed to cope.

Having seen how obvious his lies were, he made a move to financially induce the Tribunal Judges to rule in his favour but the move was later inflicted with leprosy. If he had succeeded, it would have been tantamount to a judicial funeral. How would one who asserted that election did not hold in all the polling unit of the State fail to present his party's unit agents as witnesses? In the absence of the unit agents, who would prove Nsima's claims to be true? Now we know the ground why the petition was dismissed.

Nsima Ekere on losing at the Election Tribunal went to town with the rumor that the Justices were financially induced by the State Government. After series of braggadocios, he concurrently moved to the Appeal Court soliciting for the Tribunal's ruling to be reversed. This equally entailed keeping aside the lower Court's verdict, declaring him winner of the election or the annulment of the entire electioneering processe. From his amended petition, it was observed that Nsima was gambling with the case. He was strucked with a spirit of confusion, and was unable to ascertain which premise he should hold on.

From records, you can't just think that a Court of competence would dwell in hasty and non-factual perceptions. The issue of non-compliance to stipulated election guidelines as complained by Mr. Ekere must be proven beyond every reasonable doubt. But Nsima didn't find it worthy of proving his asseveration, this was why he blatantly refused filing his party's unit agents as witnesses. On this basis of the Petitioner's inability to prove his claim, the Appeal had no other option than to dismiss the case.

We all thought that was the end of road for the case, until we were informed that Obong Nsima Ekere had bowed to pressure by moving to the Supreme Court, Abuja to challenge both the INEC, Tribunal and Appellate's decision to declare Mr. Udom Emmanuel winner of the March 9th gubernatorial election. He didn't know he was going to Abuja to announce his chronic love for failure.

At the Supreme Court today, Nsima's lead counsel, S. J. Okutepa SAN because of the pressure on him to put oxygen to the lifeless case created an antecedent that would not evade one's memory in a hurry. During the adoption of briefs by lead counsel to PDP, Tayo Oyetibo SAN, Okutepa rose to object that Tayo was trying to introduce fresh arguments before the Supreme Court. In reply, Tayo responded that Okutepa's temperature was rising because his case was bad. Since then, everyone who faltered in subsequent proceedings was likened to Okutepa and accused of having a rise in temperature by the Supreme Court. What an uncommon antecedent!

Before today, there was merriment and celebration by Nsima Ekere and his band of harebrained supporters. People were made to believe that Nsima's case at the Supreme Court has been settled by the powers above. Since the Court is in Abuja, people were made to believe that the Abuja connections which they were unable to employ at the Tribunal and Appeal because of distance would be made very possible now the distance is like that of the knee to the toe.

We also heard rumors how Nsima with some other people had convened a meeting at Abuja, disbursing a certain sum for the purpose of the Court's verdict which was set aside for today. I had thought that the odds would change and that Nsima who according to APC members in Akwa Ibom is a great magician would perform one of his greatest magic today.

The Supreme Court dismissed the case in accordance to the Tribunal and Appellate's decision. This is to say that Nsima Ekere's ambition to be governor has finally been buried. Unless he would come out again by 2023.

I was forced to ask; why then were they jubilating on Social Media? They were celebrating Nsima Ekere's last burial. Flesh and blood did not reveal this to me.

A'IBOM WORKER'S GRATUITIES: GOV UDOM EMMANUEL IS BLAMELESS




Yesterday I pondered upon some stories propagated on social media about the protest staged by few people who according to them, are retirees and primary school teachers. Accordingly, they maintained that the State government is yet to pay their gratuities and promotion arrears meant for different highlighted year(s) or month(s) respectively. While I went further to demand clearer explanations for authenticity's sake, I ascertained that the story is not as I was told by some APC facebook journalists whose aim is to take advantage of any occured scenario to tarnish the image and reputation of the governor.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom State who doubles as the Federal Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio on vacating the Governorship seat had claimed he was not owing any group of people. To our greatest shock, it was discovered that he had left behind a great burden of debt for his predecessors. Akpabio was governor in an era where there was abundance of resources. Why then was he unable to pay all worker's entitlements up-to date?

For the sake of setting the records straight, let it be known that the protest staged by few of the retired and serving Primary School teachers as witnessed yesterday had nothing to do with the present State administration. From their analysis, it's been clearly stated that between 2011-2015, gratuity was not paid to primary school teachers in the State, and that the one paid in 2010 was only but a 45% payment of the total sum. They went further to highlight other numerous debts owed them by the past government which promotion arrears and pension arrears. From the abundance of grieves, they pleaded with His Excellency the governor to ensure the probe of Sen. Akpabio who they believed bluntly refused paying their entitlements because of his preposterous character. The question now is; are we going to sue for the probe Sen. Akpabio who with about N45bn monthly excess crude oil derivation, N10bn monthly ecological funds and N26bn monthly allocation, refused to pay worker's entitlements or we'll sit and fold our arms, blaming Gov. Udom Emmanuel for this Akpabio's wicked action? Udom Emmanuel is blameless!

ESSIEN UDIM RERUN; THE APC IS WITHOUT A CANDIDATE

It is public knowledge that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not be participating in the rerun elections for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District. This is consequent upon the press statement released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday the 16th day of December, 2019.

The Court of Appeal, Calabar Judicial Division, while giving judgment in a petition by Senator Godswill Akpabio challenging the declaration of Senator Chris Ekpenyong of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the election in the Senatorial District, ordered that INEC should conduct a fresh election in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It is worthy of note that Essien Udim is just one out of the

Senator Akpabio, in a letter dated the 2nd day of December, 2019 and addressed to the APC National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, had notified the party of his withdrawal from the rerun, due to his current ministerial duties, and urged the party to find a replacement and send the name to INEC for approval.

The press statement as released by INEC has it that it would not allow the APC to replace its candidate for the rerun, reason being that the time frame within which the APC would have done the purported substitution had long lapsed. This position as taken by INEC is in tandem with the extant electoral regulations and judicial authorities. Section 33 of the Electoral Act, 2010 succinctly provides that
“A political party shall not be allowed to change or substitute its candidate whose name had been submitted pursuant to section 31 of this Act, except in the case of death or withdrawal by the candidate”.

Section 31 (1) of the Act provides that:
“Every political party shall not later than 60 days before the date appointed for a general election under the provisions of this Act, summit to the commission, in the prescribed forms, the list of the candidates the party proposes to sponsor at the elections…”

This position of the law was well elucidated in the case of Labour Party v. INEC (2008) 13 NWLR, (Pt.1103) Pages 18-19 at Ratio 2 where the Court of Appeal per Okoro JCA (as he then was), held inter alia that:

“Where a general election has been held and there is a false start, for example, a candidate who ought to have been part of the election was unlawfully excluded or there was no level playing ground for all the candidates and that election is subsequently either cancelled by the regulating authority like INEC or nullified by an order of a court or tribunal and a re-run or re-start is ordered. It is my humble view that the re-run or re-start refers to that general election cancelled or nullified... The consequence of this is that all the candidates including the one unlawfully excluded would now get back to the starting line for a fair and free contest. It does not admit of any other candidate since as it were, the period for nomination and screening of candidates would have elapse. It is just restoring the parties to the status quo ante belum. See also Honourable Mohammed Salisu A. Alwa’u & Anor v. Abbas M. Yakubu & 2 Ors. CA/K/EP/SHA30/20C (unreported) delivered on 6th November, 2003.

At page 10 paragraphs G-H the Court of Appeal further held that
“For a nullified general election, only the persons who were candidates in the said election can have a rerun…”
In the concurrent judgment, Augie JCA (as he then was) at page 109 para C held that

“The applicant may have a right to nominate and sponsor candidates but it cannot exercise that right when an election is nullified and a fresh election is ordered because the date and period for calling for nomination has elapsed”.

The Labour Party not satisfied with the judgment of the Court of Appeal in the above case, appealed to the Supreme Court as reported in Labour Party v. INEC (2009) 37 SCQR 73 at page 97. The Supreme Court in dismissing the appeal, held inter alia-

“I also so hold. The said nullification of the election was because of the “unlawful exclusion” of the Action Congress and its candidate by INEC. Since the said election, was void. Commonsensically and in fact and in law, it is the same candidates that will ran in the aborted/nullified election that must go back to run in the fresh election as ordered by the trial tribunal which was affirmed by the Court of Appeal”

Senator Akpabio has the unfettered right to withdraw from the rerun election, but his political party does not have such right to arbitrarily make substitutions, at least not within confines of the law as cited above. The ordinary legal consequence of Senator Akpabio’s withdrawal from the rerun vis-à-vis the provision of the law is that the APC cannot and will not field a candidate at the rerun election.

While appreciating the Independent National Electoral Commission for following the path of the law and their unwavering resolve to conduct a free, fair, and credible rerun elections as ordered by the court, we also urge the commission to discountenance the desperate demand by the APC for the removal of Mike Igini as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC). This ill-motivated call is obviously geared at having a REC that will allow them the liberty to perpetrate electoral malfeasance in Essien Udim during the rerun election.

THE LEGACIES OF GOV UDOM EMMANUEL IN THE EDUCATIONAL SECTOR

Malcolm X postulated that "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today". With the level of achievements recorded by His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel in the education sector, one would deduce that he has plugged the cause of a renewed Akwa Ibom to the admiration of many, including his worst critics.

Gov. Udom Emmanuel has rewritten the Akwa Ibom story in the education sector. He is blazing the trail. With great sincerity of purpose, the Governor has taken the free and compulsory education policy of the State Government to another level. Students in Primary and Secondary schools are provided with up-to-date textbooks and computer to boost their learning skills.

Mr. Udom is committed to achieving a globally competitive workforce in a world that is increasingly being shaped by technology thereby making education Paramount. The state Government is ensuring compliance with the curriculum, education policies, and world best practices in the primary, secondary/technical schools, and tertiary institutions across the State.

In the same strain, the Udom Emmanuel led administration is continually creating a more conducive learning environment through the massive rehabilitation and reconstruction of classroom blocks, library blocks and halls. Construction of hostels , provision of science and laboratory equipments and the supply of dual desks in schools across the 31 LGAs of the State and the revitalization of various ICT laboratories in some public and private schools.

Udom's commitment to education for the Akwa Ibom child has been proven in his payment of WASSCE fees for all final year students in public secondary schools, payment of NABTEB fees for all students in public technical colleges and also providing funds for laboratory reagents for practical examinations.

The tertiary institutions are not left out of the instauration Mr. Udom Emmanuel has given to the Education Sector. The story has been incontestable from the College of Education Afaha Nsit to the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Ikot Osurua. The University of Uyo and The Akwa Ibom State University will always be obliged to the Governor for his benevolence. Oscillating from the facilitation of accreditation of courses in some schools to the provision of infrastructures to the construction of internal roads.

With unfathomable commitment and passion, Gov. Udom Emmanuel has set Akwa Ibom State on a pedestal in the Education Sector. His love and support for Education is barefaced with evidence of exceptional performances by indigenes of the State within the Country and across the Globe. Today the name of the State which sits pretty on the Global calendar of scholarly excellence has continued to provide inspiration to young ones within the state and even nationally.

NARROW ESCAPE: AKPABIO WITHDRAWS FROM AKWA IBOM RERUN

The Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has withdrawn his candidature from the forthcoming rerun election as ordered by the Court of Appeal for the Akwa Ibom North-West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District billed for Essien Udim Local Government Area.

In a letter forwarded to the National Chairman of APC with the caption “NOTICE OF VOLUNTARY WITHDRAWAL OF CANDIDATURE – RE: AKWA IBOM NORTH-WEST SENATORIAL DISTRICT ELECTION”, Sen. Akpabio said he has taken into consideration the critical national assignment bestowed on him hence his resolve to withdraw his candidature as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming rerun election, and remain in office.

He however asked the party to communicate his withdrawal to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and to also forward the name of another candidate to replace him at the rerun election, and stressed the need for the redeployment of the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Barr. Mike Igini, from Akwa Ibom State.

It is worth of note that Akpabio’s withdrawal from the rerun is coming on the heel of the failed campaigns of calumny he and his supporters in APC launched against the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Barr. Igini, recently, threatening to boycott the forthcoming rerun election in Essien Udim LGA, except the INEC REC, Barr. Igini is transferred from the state.

His agitation for the redeployment of Igini from the state has forced Akwa Ibom people to wonder what crime Igini has committed, a man whose reputation as an umpire, is devoid of sentiments and personal aggrandizement and had created a mark for himself in Edo State, Cross River State, lmo, Anambra and other parts of the country, and why Akpabio and his supporters are so scared of him and his solid reputation acknowledged by Nigerians.

The Court of Appeal, Calabar Judicial Division, had on 9 November, 2019, ordered that INEC should conduct a rerun election in Essien Udim LGA within 90 days from the date of the judgement to determine the real winner of Akwa Ibom North-West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District election earlier held on 23 February, 2019.

INEC had fixed January 25, 2020 for the rerun election and Akpabio on sensing an imminent defeat and wouldn’t want to lose his ministerial appointment, withdrew his candidature.

WHY “ALMIGHTY” AKPABIO AND CO ARE SCARED OF IGINI

*PLOT TO ILLEGALLY REPLACE AKPABIO WITH ANOTHER CANDIDATE FOR RERUN UNCOVERED*

The MANDATE EYES wishes to react to recent campaigns of calumny launched by Senator Godswill Akpabio and his supporters in APC against the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom, Barr. Mike Igini.

We are also aware that Senator Akpabio has gone to lnec Headquarters in Abuja to fraudulently substitute his name with that of a certain Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo ahead of the rerun of the AKWA IBOM North West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District elections billed for Essien Udim local government area. This is irrespective of the fact that the gentleman neither picked a form nor was he nominated as a candidate of the APC for the February 23,2019 elections. INEC rejected his illegal proposal and offers.


The former Senator and his supporters, have in series of sponsored media attacks, threatened to boycott the forthcoming rerun election in Essien Udim local government area, except the Resident INEC Electoral Commissioner, Barr. Mike Igini is transferred from the state.

We are aware that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has fixed January 25, 2020 for elections in all parts of the country where there is a rerun. Parties concerned have gone back to campaign to seek for votes which is a normal thing to be done. Surprisingly in the case of Ikot-Ekpene Senatorial district in Akwa Ibom, Akpabio who claims to be on ground is rather going round with petitions that Igini should be removed, instead of going to campaign and we ask; in what basis is he asking for Igini's removal?

We are not surprised that Akpabio and his All Progressives Congress, APC have gone back to their normal propaganda and shadow chasing exercise. Recall that a chieftain of APC Chief Enefiok Ekefre had told the whole world that APC lost woefully in Akwa Ibom because it failed to carry out campaigns at the grassroots. He went on to say that his party claimed that it would rely on 'federal might' to capture the state. This, according to Ekefre, a seasoned political stalwart was practically impossible in a state that had been dominated by PDP since 1998.


We recall that in the buildup to the General Elections earlier this year, APC in Akwa Ibom State had campaigned for the removal of Mike Igini. They also masterminded the change in quick succession of at least 4 different Commissioners of Police in the state. It is also on record that the opposition party in the state had championed the introduction of the infamous Warsaw saw war message into the election; A message which Akpabio boasted severally would see him invade Akwa Ibom State in a violent manner akin to the invasion of Poland by Nazi tyrant Adolf Hitler, an invasion that saw over 30 million lives unaccounted till date.


We are aware that Mike Igini whose reputation as an umpire is devoid of sentiments and personal aggrandizement, had created a mark for himself in Edo State, Cross River State, lmo, Anambra and other parts of the country. *What really is the crime that Igini has committed and why is Akpabio and co so scared of him and his solid reputation acknowledged by Nigerians.


Few days before election, Igini was quoted as saying that “he came to Akwa Ibom to count votes and not to count money “and that politicians should desist from asking him to come for a meeting anywhere outside his office. So, who was he talking about? He further went on to say that he does not need to follow anybody to Dubai or any other location and so anyone who has anything to say should come to INEC headquarters at Udo Udoma Avenue in full glare of the media and camera. Who were the politicians that asked him to follow them to Dubai for a meeting.


Is it not a shame that in Akwa Ibom with 329 wards, 31 local government area's 10 federal constituencies, and 3 Senatorial districts, the only flash point where a rerun has been ordered by Appeal court because of what the court described as “pervasive hooliganism, unparalleled violence and abduction of poll officials” is in Essien Udim local government area, the local government of Senator Godswill Akpabio?.


Recall with pains and sadness , several testimonies of how INEC officials and voters were abducted at gun points, threatened, beaten up just to enable Senator Akpabio to perpetuate his Warsaw agenda, wherein he amounted to allocated over 61,000 phantom votes to himself not traceable to any polling units.

In any case, the judgment of the Appeal Court on this matter is self explanatory. The appellate court ordered Akpabio to go back and demonstrate again how he was able to muster over 61,000 votes whereas the entire accredited voters from card readers and voters register was only 19,500 . For anybody who boasts of scoring an A in a course, if asked to re-sit that examination with the same question paper, would it be right for that person to fret and babble on who the examiner should be?

Is the reason for the change of the umpire in anyway connected with his desire to fraudulently sneak in another person’s name when the Appeal Court specifically asked him(Akpabio) to go and complete an election that was nearly 98% completed?
Or is it because he has a willing electoral arbiter who is willing to play ball and suspend the highly rated card readers accreditation process that Igini insists on deploying? He has been boasting of a registered voters of 105,555 that he sexed up when he was a Governor which is bogus and not a true reflection of the voters there and he wants to write the results according to the bloated register and his only problem is lgini who will not allow anyone to write results.. Everyone by now know that given a fair and credible accreditation process, there can truly be no more than 20,000 eligible voters. And since Akpabio does not want a credible process, he would do everything to get Igini or anyone for that matter out of the way for his manipulations to sail through.

It is rather funny that a leader who prides himself as the leader of the South-South region of the country would be looking for how to use only one local government area out of ten to win election into the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Is he saying that the constitution should be amended to make provision for the Office of the Senator representing Essien Udim Senatorial district?


The MANDATE EYES hereby advises the former Senator and the APC in Akwa Ibom to stop making storms out of tea cups. The party should rather brace up and go back to the people to solicit for votes. Need we remind them that for any election, the electoral Commissioner has a very well defined role of ensuring the electoral materials viz ballot papers and results sheet are delivered to polling units, returning officer collate results and announce winners. Where there is violence, snatching of ballot papers and disruption, lgini says no results would come from such places. That is why Akpabio is perpetually afraid of lgini’s presence as a Rec in the state.

The MANDATE EYES is therefore calling on Barr. igini to ignore the rantings of those who have seen defeat dangling on their face, and should go ahead with the rerun exercise credibly and with full application of the card reader.

REVEALED: APC'S PLOT TO SUBSTITUTE EKPERIKPE EKPO FOR AKPABIO DURING 'IKOT EKEPENE' SENATORIAL DISTRICT RERUN

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Akwa Ibom State has perfected plans to substitute Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo for Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio as their candidate in the court ordered rerun for the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District Seat. This is coming about a month since the Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar, Cross Rivers state cancelled the elections in Essien Udim Local Government Area on grounds of the prevalence of violence in the Local Government Area during the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

Senator Christopher Ekpenyong of the PDP had defeated Chief Akpabio of the APC at the February 23, 2019 at the polls to claim the seat at the National Assembly.

Our source gathered that the Akpabio delegation was at the INEC headquarters in Abuja yesterday to execute the planned substitution.

The decision by the APC to substitute Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo as their candidate in the election is occasioned by Chief Akpabio's uncertainty about the outcome of the rerun and his indisposition to resign from his office as the minister of Niger Delta. Close sources to Senator Akpabio informed that the minister sees the election as "a most uncertain adventure". Chief Akpabio who spoke yesterday at an event to mark his 57th anniversary confirmed this when he stated that he cannot throw away a gold in hand to seek for a bird in the woods, in his words:

"I thank God today that against the thoughts of some people, I am alive, my wife is alive and we are not retired politicians, but rather God has taken us many steps higher...I return all thanks to God and I cannot fail him by abandoning the golden opportunity I have to better the lots of my people as the minister, Niger Delta for any reason whatsoever..."

A legal practitioner ( names withheld) who is a member is the legal team of APC in the state told our correspondent that the decision by the APC to substitute Obong Ekpo for Chief Akpabio was sound in law and had a valid precedent in the case of Yahaya Bello of Kogi state who was substituted in a rerun for Late Prince Abubakar Audu, the main candidate of the APC in the 2015 Kogi gubernatorial elections who died before the conclusion of the elections. He said that Obong Ekpo can inherit the votes of Chief Akpabio just as Yahaya Bello inherited the votes of Prince Audu.


Another APC Chieftain stated in an interview with our correspondent that Akpabio is afraid that if he resigns as a minister to contest in the rerun, a defeat would mean a certain end of his political career and political relevance. He further added that Chief Akpabio would have contested in the rerun if the presidency had given him the consent and extra backing to contest, while still serving as a minister. He maintained that substitution was the only way out for the APC in the state to have a candidate in the race as he was certain that a smart and egoistic Akpabio would never resign as a minister to seek rerun for a seat at the senate against Senator Ekpenyong and the PDP who have maintained a record of victory in Akwa Ibom State for the past 20 years.

Efforts by our correspondents to reach Chief Godswill Akpabio or the APC Chairman, Akwa Ibom State, Ini Okopido had been fruitless at the time of filing this report.

APC AND THE PURPORTED CULTS DEMAND: WHEN THE FESTIVAL OF TOMFOOLERY BECOMES HABITUAL



Many things have been said of the APC members in Akwa Ibom State, but one thing yet to be revealed is their doctrine of initiation ( membership) into the harebrained confraternity.

Just like a confraternity, any member who decides to swear allegiance to the APC must at first sail through certain indoctrinations. In some cult groups, some may consider being flogged, jumping of fire, smoking a certain ration of Indianhelm nationally known as "weed", sleeping with domestic animals, as well as killing or drinking of blood, or as the case may be, to substantiate his/her readiness to belong. This is to maintain that in the APC Confraternity, there are different procedures for initiation. One of such is that you must pass through a successful surgery where your encephalon becomes retarded or possibly replaced with your anus as a partial fulfilment for your readiness to join the club, APC..... You can help me conclude the statement.

Not minding the implications that their actions would cause them and the State in entirety, APC members have strived incessantly to portray their only State as a lawless and unsafe State thereby clamouring for a state of emergency. This is in line with their bid to get rid of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP's dominance in the State, as well as tumbling the Udom Emmanuel led State government which has caused them more agony than joy. It's indeed their worst nightmare at the moment.

It could be recalled that on January 10th 2019, the Tertiary Institutions Students across the State had mobilized themselves, staging a 20,000 students solidarity match for His Excellency, Gov. Udom Emmanuel's re-election bid. At the end of the Students solidarity match, APC in the State had mobilized a non-students group to unleash mayhem and actual barbarity on lives and properties along Plaza- Wellington Bassey Way in Uyo. So many people who were running their individual or cooperate businesses along the same street or returning from their day's activities became victims of circumstance to this ferocious scenario as their mobilities were recklessly destroyed, and other valuables outrightly absconded with by these unidentified mobilized thieves of APC.

From intelligent informations that was gathered prior to this barbarous act, APC Chieftains on the eve of the same organized students solidarity match had conceived that if allowed the rally to end successfully, APC would definitely not have a chance at the 2019 general elections in the State and lastly, their next option was to tumble the already existing peace of the State, thereby paving a defined avenue where the State could be declared a state of emergency. In view of these, they assembled themselves as vultures in one of the residential homes at Shelter Afrique, came up with the strategy of tumbling the event, turning it into a Warsaw saw war scenario.

Because the above plan was unfruitful, they all amalgamated and sponsored different ghost youth groups to stage serial protests against the governor and the State's INEC umpire, Barr. Mike Igini. These too also failed but they've never retrieved.

Barely two weeks ago, I saw in one of the National dailies how the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio was trailed to a meeting where he, alongside other APC Chieftains in the State had adumbrated on series of strategies where the State could be successfully declared a state of emergency by the Federal Government of Nigeria. I didn't believe the story not untill today that I've finally beheld things with my eyes.

In the early hours of today, I got a phone call from a friend who intimated me that APC members in Akwa Ibom yesterday had planned to stage a State-wide protest in Uyo where every streets of the State would not be left out. I asked why, he divulged to me that they are combing for every possible means where the government of the State would be toppled, thereby paving an avenue for it to be declared a State of emergency. Few hours after this phone conversation, I saw on social media, updates on the cults invasion of the Nsikak Eduok Avenue, Two lanes in Uyo.

According to the informations gathered between 10-1.00pm, it was a cult clash between two Confraternities. I asked, if it's true that it is a cult clash, how many people so far is dead? I was credibly informed that no one is killed, that members of the cult groups were firing sporadically in the air. I want us to note one thing. I've witnessed series of cult wars in Calabar, Abraka and Port Harcourt where I schooled and resided respectively. Those boys called cultists come out for business each time there's a clash. They can never waste their bullets for no cause. They give direct shots on targeted persons and not in the air. If truly what they did was fire their shots in the air, it means it's never a cult clash, they're sponsored.

Just as I perceived, few minutes ago I saw some APC media urchins writing on facebook, " We were used and dumped by the governor after the general elections. We demand Gov. Udom Emmanuel to fulfill his side of the bargain by settling us or we'll take over the State and make it ungovernable. - Coalition of Cultists in Akwa Ibom State". Just purse to ask yourself this question, " why must they always be the first to break a news of this magnitude?

At this juncture, I want to state emphatically that the harum sacrums that calls themselves APC members in the State have failed. Using acclaimed cultists to stage a barbaric and illegal protest where properties are destroyed is uncalled for. And again, trying to link the governor with the activities of cultists in the State is highly abominable. Everyone knows that Gov. Udom Emmanuel is a man of God who does not by anyway amalgamates himself with any satanic assemblages or activities. Prior to this, he has fought and still striving effortlessly to proscribe cultism in the State.

It's absolutely saddening to note that the imbecility of the Akwa Ibom APC members has crossed the red lines. Must this always occur when there's any rumor of election in the State?

From a reliable source, Akpabio before departing to Abuja yesterday had convened a meeting somewhere in Uyo. We won't be bewildered if it's postulated that the outcome of the Akpabio's meeting yesterday is the rascality and folly scenario that has played out today in Nsikak Eduok Avenue, Uyo.

Elections had long long, everyone involved had moved on with his/her life. If Akpabio is striving for a state of emergency to be declared in Akwa Ibom State to help avert his impending woes at the yet to be fixed National Assembly rerun election in Essien Udim, that's if only he'll decide to run. He should know that already, he's basking in the euphoria of dereliction. If a State of emergency is declared, how happy will their children-children be when they grow to discover that it was caused because of their father's ego and greed? EKERE DRAGS 'DECOMPOSING' CASE TO SUPREME COURT

Likened by the Appellate Court to a “decomposing corpse”, a petition by Nsima Ekere of the All Progressives  Congress, challenging the victory of Governor Udom Emmanuel at the March 9, 2019 Governorship election has been filed at the supreme court, Abuja.


The Appeal which was filed by the APC and its Governorship candidate, at the Supreme Court on November 25, 2019 is founded on eleven grounds, and holds that the Learned Justices of the Appellate Court erred in law in their ruling.


Among five reliefs sought from the Supreme Court, by Mr. Ekere and the APC include an order for the nullifying of the State Governorship election of  March 9, 2019, and an order on INEC to conduct fresh election into the office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.


Recall that on November 14, 2019, the five man panel at the Court of Appeal unanimously ruled in Calabar that  “APC’s case was like a decomposing corpse with no possibility of being flogged back into life.


"The documents they brought before the Tribunal were not admissible and thus dumped at the court”.


On September 19, 2019 the Justice A. M. Yakubu led Governorship  Election Petition Tribunal in Uyo upheld the prayers of the Respondents and dumped Ekere’s Petition for wanting in merit.


The Appellate Court affirmed that “the Tribunal was right in rejecting Ekere's petition as the appellants did not discharge the evidential burden on them”.


The Appeal Court surprisingly agreed with the APC that a subpoenaed witness needed not provide a written statement before giving oral evidence, adding that the police DPO from Essien Udim, Samuel Isiek was right in testifying in favour of the APC, eventhough his evidence mattered little in a case that was already beyond redemption.



Nsima Ekere, who was slammed a penalty of N500,000 in favour of the respondent, however accused the Appeal Court judges of delivering technical justices rather than examining the substance of his appeal.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan in his speech at the 17th convocation of Igbinedion University Okada, where he was conferred with the honorary degree of doctor of science, alleged that African politicians are now staging civilian coups.

The former President stated that these politicians are now replacing military coup with civilian coup because they want to own an office.

Jonathan backed his claim with the violence witnessed during the governorship elections in his home state Bayelsa and in Kogi state where a woman was burnt alive in her house.

“Let me plead with my fellow politicians, they should stop killing the people, destroying properties because people want to own office,” he said.

“What happened in the last governorship elections in my state, Bayelsa and Kogi state, especially in Kogi state where a woman was burnt alive in her house, is something that should not happen in any normal society. Something is fundamentally wrong with our political system.

“Only on in one African country, we were discussing the politics of our continent…most of us former heads of state, presidents, former presidents and vice presidents. The way African politics is going, we are replacing military coup with civilian coup and that cannot sustain the continent.”

AKANAREN ESSIEN ADVOCATES FOR QUALITY TERTIARY EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

...As Ritman University Holds Maiden Convocation Lecture

The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo and Guest Lecturer at the maiden convocation lecture of Ritman University, Prof. Akanaren Essien has stated in strong terms that there is need for an intensive overhaul and rebranding of the educational standards in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Essien said the current challenges and intensifying decline in values and standards of university education in Nigeria and the adverse effects of these on the nation is a strong indicator that the varsities have lost the most cherished virtue of quality, which is a top prerequisite in education and learning.

The Guest Lecturer noted this, today Friday, 29th November, 2019 at the maiden convocation lecture of the Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Essien, who gave a lecture on the theme: "Reflections on Qualitative University Education in Nigeria," insisted that qualitative education should be brought into an active state in all Nigerian tertiary institutions, stressing that every university has all it takes to rebrand itself based on best global and ethical practices.

According to him, "Qualitative Tertiary Education is the worth of the inputs into higher education systems, lectures instructional facilities and evaluation procedures which translates to the output."

The inputs, according to him, determines the quality of academic activities such as teaching, practicals and research, quality of teachers and graduates, values upheld in the Nigerian varsities and intellectual manpower of the nation.

Taking an in-depth look into university education in Nigeria, he explained, "Between 1960 and 1970, Government approved five more universities: University of Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ife, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Lagos and the University of Benin. These first generation Universities did not have budgetary limitations. Infrastructure was in abundance and there was no restriction in employment policies.

"The quality of academic activities were highly commendable. The quality of staff was good and class size low enough for in-depth lecturer-student interaction. Examination malpractice was extremely rare and the dignity and atmosphere of University examination was a wonderful sight to behold.

"The quality of graduates produced stood the test of time in the public and private sectors.

He further noted that the quality of university education in the mid-80s had begun to take a downward turn owing to the sharp expansion in students' intake, establishment of more universities with low staff strength, and decline in national resources which led to limited funds allocation.

"The period between late 80s and 1999 could be said to have been the worst. At this period, facilities and other infrastructure were dilapidated needing rehabilitation," he continued.

Essien who is a member of the Animal Science Association (ASA), pointed out that due to strike actions by staff unions in a bid to draw government attention to the state of the Universities, ASUU for instance, has recorded a total period of 218 weeks of strike actions from 1993-2019.

However, Essien averred that to a larger extent private universities have fared better in terms of academic ranking, patronage and successful operation of the global university academic calendar.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman on the occasion, Prof. Emmanuel Ating, said the event will ever be a memorial day in the history of the great institution of learning as it has achieved an extraordinary feat.

On his part, Prof. Nsongurua Udombana, the Pro-chancellor of the institution applauded the guest lecturer for passing on redefined knowledge to the audience and for giving governments food for thought.

Mrs. Rita Umoh, the Dean of Students, while lauding Prof Essien, thanked God for the successful hosting of the maiden convocation lecture of the institution.

She used the opportunity to invite all to the first ever convocation ceremony of the institution billed for tomorrow, Saturday.

INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION: GOV. UDOM EMMANUEL THE JINX BREAKER

One of the America's finest philosophers, Arnold Glasgow once said, “True leadership is the ability to recognize the major problem of the people before it becomes an emergency”. Juxtaposing this illustration with the developmental strides of Gov. Udom Emmanuel, it is imperative to state that His Excellency the governor has been able to agnize the major problem of our people, and that is the yearn for Urban- Rural development.

Akwa Ibom in recent times had been known as a 100% civil service state but today, the story has changed drastically.

Since creation , the State had not witnessed an influx of industries, which in the other hand would aide in eradicating the menace of unemployment in the state. The story has changed with Mr. Udom Emmanuel's prowess in delivering industrial revolution in the State.

During campaigns, Mr. Udom Emmanuel's five points agenda which captured industrialization, Poverty alleviation, wealth creation, amongst others have been achieved. He was not found wanting, neither was the campaign promises for change in the economic status of the State turned out to be changed of campaign promises after his two elections. He has kept to his word by bringing into bare 15 working industries in the State, and from informations gathered so far, some are under construction. Oh! What a manner of man is Udom Emmanuel?

The State Chairman, Foreign Direct Investment Committee, Mr. Gabriel Ukpeh, in an interview on Radio few weeks ago disclosed that the government has so far signed over 200 MoUs with prospective investors, but because the administration of Mr. Udom Emmanuel does not celebrate MoUs, the governor is striving painstakingly to ensure these investors swing into positive actions.

It has been revealed why the immediate past acting managing director of the NDDC, Dr. (Mrs) Enyia Akwagaga Leleguma, fell out with Senator Godswill Akpabio soon after the former governor of Akwa Ibom State assumed duties as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and the supervising minister for the NDDC.
A top aide to Dr (Mrs) Leleguma said she and Akpabio parted ways when she refused to carry out a directive of the minister to pay over N30 billion for contracts which were not executed and were not meant to be executed.
The aide who wishes to be anonymous said the trouble arose from contract deals hatched between Senator Akpabio and a former acting managing director of the commission, Professor Nelson Brambaifa, just before Brambaifa’s tenure in the commission came to an end.
According to the story, Senator Akpabio and Professor Brambaifa agreed to issue and backdate letters of award for contracts worth about N30 billion for “emergency work and the desilting of the waterways” in the region. The source said the stated purpose in the contract letters was just for the record whereas the truth was that the entire contract deals were a big scam with neither a plan nor an intention to award and execute any contract for the benefit of the Niger Delta people.
Before the contract scam was executed, Professor Brambaifa was sacked and directed to hand over to the most senior director in the commission, who happened to be Dr. (Mrs) Enyia Akwagaga Leleguma.
After the exit of Brambaifa, the minister worked with the director of EPC in the commission, Engineer Sese, to issue certificates of completion of work for the phony contracts. With the certificates of completion of work in hand, the minister asked Professor Brambaifa’s successor, who was by now the new acting managing director, Dr (Mrs) Enyia Akwagaga Leleguma, to pay for the phony contracts.
The lady allegedly declined to pay, and raised queries about the regularity of the contract awards and doubt over the claims of work done.
From then on the relationship between the minister and the Dr (Mrs) Leleguma became sour and the two were barely on speaking terms.
Our source said Akpabio would call the woman on phone and shout at her over flimsy issues. On one occasion, according to the source, the lady broke down and wept all night in her hotel room in Abuja when the minister called to shout at her, accusing her of having been in Abuja for three days from her base in Port Harcourt without getting in touch with him as her supervising minister, whereas she had gone to meet with the Secretary to Government of the Federation and the Deputy Senate President, arguing that both officials were not those she was reporting to.
The aide said another point of friction between the minister and Dr (Mrs) Leleguma was the question of who should be paid among genuine contractors who had valid outstanding claims for contracts duly verified as having been executed. According to the story, only contractors approved by Akpabio were paid during the acting managing director’s tenure, and she dared not pay a contractor outside the minister’s list, irrespective of proof of work done.
The minister also reportedly did not want the acting managing director to interact with other government officials in Abuja. The minister was said to flare up any time the lady did so in line of duty.
When the minister assumed duty, he reportedly invited Dr (Mrs) Leleguma to his house where he introduced his business partner called Engineer Abu to the lady, claiming that Abu, who is a director in Rodnab Construction, had capacity to do contracts for the commission and that he was the one who built his Asokoro home. Incidentally, Abu is the contractor handling the new NDDC headquarters. Both Engineer Abu and one Ibanga Akpabio, said to be the minister’s younger brother, are the ones running the NDDC for the minister.
The aide said the relationship between the minister and the acting managing director was so tense that the lady came down with high blood pressure while her appointment lasted.
