Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by jagadab: 10:13pm On Oct 10, 2017 |
DreManuel: Brotherman,
Congratulations on your scores.
I just wish to make few suggestions, and I'm assuming you are applying for fall 2018.
My first take is that your "Why" has to be very strong, and that will take care of the "Who", "Where" and "When". That means you would know the exact thing you want to research on or focus on in your field, and the potential professors or departments/schools that can deliver that. Then you can create a shortlist. Any school, however prestigious it may be, that won't address your "Why" can always be struck off. But you will have to sit put and do a lot of personal research.
Once you've identified potential supervisors or schools, then your next step is to introduce yourself to them. You would have to tell a great story here based on your "Why" and your work/academic history. If you make a good impression, they will respond to you and will usually tell you if they have funding or not and other avenues you can explore. If a professor doesn't respond even after you follow up with your mail, that's a sign that you are not likely needed by the professor. You either move to the next professor of interest in the school or next school on your list. Note: However stellar your grades are, if there are no professors willing to take you on in a school, you are most likely wasting your money and time applying. And a corollary to this is that the question of whether a school is ambitious or not would be answered. Personally, almost all the schools that gave me admissions with financial aids had their professors respond favourably to me. On one occasion, one opened up that I was one of his picks. One another occasion - though I didn't apply eventually - the professor encouraged me to apply and while he said he won't make promises, he felt I would be competitive for funding based on the info I supplied to him in my introductory mail. I could go on...
Based on the responses you've gotten from above, you can narrow your list further to the schools you should apply to. Those are the ones you should really focus on. Others can follow.
In a nutshell, put in the hard work to research manu schools based on your program, and reach out to potential supervisors, other things can follow. just sent you a pm please I will like to have a chat with you regards certain info on my GRE and app school I anticipate your response soon |

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Zenith Bank Interview 2016 by jagadab: 7:06pm On Sep 29, 2017 |
abnot: Been a while peeps. Hope you all doing good. Today is my 1st year anniversary at zenith and it's been really interesting as I've learnt some skills on the job and a bit about the organisation . Thought I should share the following with you all: 1. Zenith is a 100% capitalist organisation which has little or no regard or plans for its loyal staff. Kindly don't regard the job as a career but rather as a transit point. 2. No matter how hard you work expect nothing from the bank as GA's now spend an average of four years before becoming ET's. ETs earn 130k and it takes 4-5 years or more to move from an ET to an EA. Looking at the last promotion list , one can deduce that the promoted ET's had all spent a least 4 years on that level. Growth and progression prospects is close to zero at zenith. Don't get carried away by your bosses who will tell you how they started low and worked their way to the top as they probably joined the bank at a time when promotion was across board on an annual or bi-annual basis. 3. Try to make out time for yourself as failure to do so will amount to your working for the organisation day / night and ending up not working for yourself. 4. Make an exit plan before you get stuck in the system or get booted out. 5. Make out time for friends and continue to expand your network outside the bank. 6. Keep searching for better opportunities till you find one. am also searching for better opportunities... nice career path especially as an engineer please how can one get the role as an ET in zenith bank and as engineer I hope be with zenith soon thanks i |
