Lagos has become one of the 10 biggest cities in the world. The Nigerian megacity (Lagos) has been growing at an exceptional rate, and if it continues with its present pace, it might soon have more residents than all of Great Britain within several decades. With the explosion in the country’s population comes a boom in its internet users, with up to six million users every year. As more people get up to speed online, ambitious entrepreneurs have been starting up companies offering a wide range of relevant services needed throughout the country. Currently, it’s estimated that there are about 450-700 startups across Lagos, in what has become known as the ‘Yabacon Valley.’ Though ‘Yabacon Valley’ is no match for Silicon Valley in terms of overall scope, Lagos-based startups are currently worth an estimated US$2 billion, the most in all of Africa. This year alone, tens of millions of US dollars in mostly foreign investments have been helping to support the dreams and ambitions of many Nigerian entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs are well educated, as an estimated 93 percent of Lagos based founders have a technical background. This is the third highest concentration in the world. However, despite a growing amount of seed money and know-how, four out of every five startups in the country fail within the first three years. This is as a result of proper planning and mismanagement or not meeting with the society needs. But that didn’t prevent other entrepreneurs to continue their quest in setting up their dream Start-up Companies. Obiweluozor Agu and Chike Ilonuba are two business owners in Lagos who are set and determined to succeed with their company, called BOCA Konsult Global Services Ltd., which was formed in 2015 following the privatization of Nigeria’s power supply industry. Traditionally, Nigerians either waited for their electricity bill at the end of the month to make a payment, a process known as post-paid, or purchased an energy token for a set period of time, a process known as prepaid. In the latter case, after purchasing the token, customers input a 20 digit number into their meters in order to get access to daily electricity. However, the payment process was inefficient, as many customers were literally left in the dark if their bill wasn’t paid. Many companies in that sector have wanted to improve their payment services so customers who work during the day could pay for their bills after hours, without having their power cut off. In the near future, BOCA is even looking at ways to use IBM’s Blockchain technology to further strengthen their payment solution offerings. As Nigeria’s active startup scene attracts more and more attention both locally and globally, IBM Africa has also seen a notable increase in companies seeking out their services for innovative solutions, in addition to a sense of security, reliability and dependability. Such a solution is enabling startups like BOCA transform from struggling companies into thriving ones. “IBM expects the upward trend to continue because there has been a lot of interest and there has been significant growth in the sector,” says Faulkner. visit www.techibytes.com.ng for more tech news and tech Tips

Many have wondered if there are Programming Languages/Tools for kids to start developing their programming skills with, So that made me thought of listing out 10 programming languages/tools that i know kids can start with. With a better understanding of the types of interfaces and languages your kid might work with, here is a roundup of the best programming languages for kids. 1. BASIC (Small Basic and Just BASIC) Back in the day when the personal computer was first gaining traction in the late 1970s and early 1980s, BASIC was where it was at. BASIC was the programming language all the new computer owners would try to create short little programs on their 8088 computers and Commodore 64s. Despite the popularity of Visual Basic in the 90s, BASIC has fallen by the wayside as a serious programming language. Still, it’s a great language for your younger kids to try if they want to get their feet wet in real programming code. Why? Because it is easy, and the syntax sounds like what it does: “IF ... THEN ... ELSE” For a modern, simplified version of BASIC, try Microsoft’s Small Basic or Just BASIC. 2. Alice Great for younger kids, Alice is a block-based visual environment developed by Carnegie Mellon University. 3. Blockly Blockly is Google’s project. It’s a way to visually program using interlocking blocks. 4. Scratch MIT developed Scratch, another great visual environment for younger kids and anyone preferring to work visually. 5. CoderZ CoderZ is not a programming language but a Java overlay that allows kids to create their own virtual 3D robots. As they progress, they can learn more about the underlying Java code. 6. HTML and 7. CSS As mentioned above, the website languages HTML and CSS are not technically programming languages, though they are erroneously called that sometimes. Learning HTML and CSS, however, can teach kids how to handle text-based syntax, and it gives them the foundation for learning real programming languages used for websites such as JavaScript and PHP. 8. Perl Perl was instrumental in building the World Wide Web. Whenever you sent a form through a website, it was usually written in Perl. It was eventually supplanted from its top dog position by PHP and JavaScript, but it is still a highly useful language for web development. Perl is an interpreted language that is, at its core, procedural but has object-oriented capabilities. Some of the syntax can be challenging. It is best for older or talented children who may tinker with Linux. Perl will help them in system administration. 9. Ruby Ruby, like BASIC, has a very easy syntax and is a good introduction to code for young programmers. A free tutorial is available online to give it a try. 10.Kodu (game creator) Let Your Kids Explore Programming Likely, your kid may end up surpassing you in technical knowledge rather quickly. While this article provides a starting point for the various programming resources your child might use, they will inevitably explore and find their own tools. And that’s a good thing! check out https://techibytes.com.ng/

Many developers who want to venture into mobile application development always have this question of either to be native application or hybrid application developer. Now, I have seen a lot of these questions online in some site forums and most a times the response comes on people’s personal experience over either of the two. So, I want to point out some clear fact about which between Native app and Hybrid applications is cool for you as we are moving fast into mobile-first world. Before I drive down, I would like you to pin point what application exactly do you want to create, such as - Your budget of the application you want to develop -How fast do you need the application - How fast do you want the application to be -What features do you want the application to have - What are your main goal of creating the application. I believe pretty much that you have been seeing much confusing articles online that made you continue your search, but let me help you in by assisting in making the choice for you by explaining more further the whole thing you need to know about Native and Hybrid applications. Native Application. native app What made native application more different from hybrid applications is that native apps are created for specific devices. The native apps are created either for an android device or iphone device respectively (android apps are written in java while iphone apps are written in objective-C). Native applications are more faster and most reliable when it comes to user experience, and also higher budgets are required to keep native apps updated and to make the application a crossed platform app (iphone and android). Native apps are been made available for download in App Store or Google Store. Hybrid Applications. hybrid app Hybrid apps combines element of both native and web applications. Hybrid applications are more easier and faster to develop than native applications. Moreso, the speed of your hybrid apps depends completely on the speed of the user’s browser. This is to say that hybrid apps most likely runs faster than a native application. Hybrid applications are also made available on App Store and Google Store. Yes, I skipped saying anything about web application because real core mobile developers don’t think much about web application development as much. Many mobile developers of not choosing web application development because of the downside of it. -It is less intuitive -Can be slower -inaccessible through app stores -Your user won’t have the icon of the app automatically downloaded on their mobile home screens, this will make users not going to be constantly reminded to use your app. So, I believe so much that I have done some much justice in telling you what you need to know before choosing the one to start with. And one more thing, making your app open will help you get it tested without need to hire permanent staff for that. I hope you find our article useful,so feel free to tell us more if you are confused on any part or need a suggestion over tools to use to get started. Don’t jump to native or hybrid without getting yourself cleared over their strength and weaknesses. read more https://techibytes.com.ng/
