In countries like China, individuals with vocational training or practical skills often earn more than some university graduates. This reflects a society that values skills and productivity over academic qualifications alone. It shows that one can have a lower-level qualification and still live a comfortable and respectable life.
I think for Nigeria to achieve sustainable development, there needs to be a deliberate effort to promote and invest in vocational and technical education. Young people should be encouraged to acquire practical skills that meet the demands of the local and global economy. Changing societal attitudes that place university degrees above all else is essential. A strong economy thrives not just on certificates, but on competence and creativity at all levels of the workforce.
