JAMB had suspended the use of NIN for the 2020/21 UTME and DE due to the commission’s inability to facilitate the process as a result of the unexpected massive population, However, some prospective applicants are still applying for the NIN and this has not stooped trooping into the NIN offices daily stating the fact that the national identification number can be used for other purposes as well.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended the use of the National Identification Number(NIN) as a requirement for registration in the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and the registration for direct entry programs into universities as well .


This was announced at a press conference in Abuja on Saturday by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Isha-q Oloyede stating the reason for such decision is technical reasons.


The conference was attended by top management staff of the National Identification Management Commission (NIMC), led by its Director-General, Aziz Aliyu.



The JAMB registrar cited ongoing difficulties being faced by candidates in the NIN registration, adding that the NIN requirement as a precondition for the UTME and Direct
