Well, AS vs AS couples have a 25% probability of delivering a SS genotype child for each pregnancy. The options are divided into several categories. PRE-MARITAL 1. Like other pple said, individuals with AS/SS genotype should not marry others with AS/SS genotype. POST-MARITAL( if u guys marry knowingly or unknowingly) 1.IVF that's carefully selecting an egg and sperm from both parties without any veing a AS/SS genotype 2. If for any reason u get married to the individual (knowingly or unknowingly) then u also ve options ANTE-NATAL (before delivery) Which involves specialized tests carried out to check the fetus Genotype and subsequently aborting if the fetus has a SS genotype. (Selective abortion/termination of pregnancy) 3.Post delivery.... 3a. Bone marrow transplant 3ai. Stem cell transplant, more popular and even done in nigeria (http://ihuanedo.ning.com/m/blogpost?id=2971192%3ABlogPost%3A95457) by Dr. Godwin Bazuaye is a consultant dermatologist and Hematologist) and specialist in bone marrow transplants UBTH. 3b. Good Management of the child. There are better drugs now that help with their managements and also support groups that enlighten parties involved. Finally.....there are a lot of UPs and DOWNs in raising a child with SS genotype esp in a developing country, Prevention is still the best advice, to spare the child the excruciating pain, trauma, recurrent hospital visits and for the parents capital intensive situation. Let's also not forget the emotional stress on the parent and child BUT just incase pple are ignorant or unaware of their genotype and get married then the post marital options are avaliable.
