According to Punch, when Rhoda Ogofotha’s husband traveled from Lagos to Delta State to attend his half-brother’s burial ceremony, she had no inkling it would be the last time she would hear his voice. A teacher and mother of four based in Ogun State, Rhoda was left reeling after the shocking discovery that her husband had died under mysterious circumstances in a hotel. But even more chilling was the revelation his death would uncover — a dark secret involving a previously missing young point-of-sale (PoS) operator. Her husband, a retired marketer and part-time pastor, had planned a short stay in his hometown for the burial ceremony. With no family house in the area, he lodged at Century Hotel. The couple spoke on the morning of the event, and he assured her he was preparing to attend the ceremony. However, by the next day, he was nowhere to be found. “I received a call from his late brother’s wife, saying they hadn’t seen him at the event. I was confused because he called me that morning and never mentioned leaving the hotel,” Rhoda recalled. Initially, hotel staff told concerned relatives that he had checked out — a claim Rhoda firmly disputed. She advised her husband’s nephew to report the matter to the police. Oddly, the hotel manager accompanied the boy to file the complaint, but the content of the report remained unclear. Later that day, things took a darker turn. A message arrived on the nephew’s phone: “We are kidnappers, your brother is in our custody, follow instructions.” This was followed by a N20 million ransom demand and a warning not to involve the police. However, when the supposed kidnapper’s number was tracked, it was discovered that it belonged to a PoS girl declared missing months earlier. That was the turning point. “It was my husband’s death that revealed the hotel staff killed the PoS girl,” Rhoda stated. Despite the ransom message, Rhoda remained unconvinced that her husband had truly been kidnapped. Her suspicions were heartbreakingly confirmed when her son received a call informing him that his father’s lifeless body had been discovered inside the very hotel that claimed he had checked out. The discovery ignited public outrage. When the hotel manager was brought in for questioning, a crowd gathered and, shortly after, the hotel was reportedly set ablaze by an angry mob. Investigations are ongoing, with arrests already made. Rhoda, though mourning, remains focused on one thing: justice. “Let justice be served. My husband did not deserve this. The innocent must not suffer in vain.” As police work to untangle the web of lies and violence, Rhoda is left to raise four children alone — one of whom is just 27 — while mourning a man she describes as kind, peaceful, and deeply spiritual. https://punchng.com/hotels-of-horror-shocking-tales-of-staff-colluding-to-murder-guests/ |
