Education / Oou Student Crash: Two Students, Driver Buried.. by kasimseun(m): 8:02am On Jun 29, 2015 |
Three of the victims of the accident which killed 12 people including eight students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, on Friday had been buried. Also, Monday (today) and Tuesday have been declared a lecture-free day to mourn the deceased students. The accident occurred on Friday at Ilishan Junction along Sagamu/Benin Expressway. Those buried on Saturday were the driver of the commercial bus, Lukman Adekeye, and two students of OOU, Dare Olatunji Michael, and Aminat Adebayo. It will be recalled that a truck laden with a container, whose driver drove against traffic had a head-on collision with a commercial bus conveying the OOU students and some other passengers. Twelve people died on the spot. Eight of them were OOU students. The victims were Odubanjo Eunice Oluwadamilola, 200-level Political Science; Ogunnoiki Omolade Mariam, 100-level, History; Aribiola Yetunde Elizabeth, 100-level Biochemistry; Adams Suliat Oluwatobi, 100-level Accounting; Funmilayo Latifat, 100-level Chemical Science; Asade Christianah Ibukun, 200-level Law; and Dairo Olatunji Michael, a graduate of Physics. The only survivor, Akinbo Laughter Ibukun, is a 300-level Chemistry student of the same institution. Meanwhile, the Students’ Union Government of the institution after a meeting on Sunday with the Nigerian Association of Nigerian Students, South-West zonal coordinator, Sunday Ashefun, and Ogun NANS chairman, Okikiola Ogunsola, decided that Monday be declared a ‘Black Monday’ in the school. It was also agreed that no lecture or club activities be conducted within the campuses of the institution on Monday and Tuesday. The President of OOU SUG, Adegbesan Adenola, said, “We will be having a candlelight procession for our late colleagues on Monday night. “We are expecting all students to come as students from other tertiary institutions across the state will join us in the exercise.” Also, the Ogun State government has commiserated with the governing council of the institution. A delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, and the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, led the condolence visit. |
