The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Alfred Oyeniyi Adeboye, has warned drivers against dhttp://nigerianewsdesk.com/riving for more than four hours.

Adeboye, who spoke during the grand finale of this year’s Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc, annual Health and Safety month, also advised that a long journey requires two drivers who can take over from one driver after long driving.’’

He also admonished drivers against taking heavy food as breakfast, lunch or dinner before embarking on a long journey.“It is in your best interest to take light food to avoid sleeping on the steering.’’
His words: “If you must drive more than four hours, you must intermittently break your journey to take a walk round before you continue your journey. It is after you must have done this that you have relaxed your brain and make it ready for another stretch of journey.

“After driving for four hours, a driver is bound to face mental stress which can only be eased out by exercising one’s body before continue the journey.” During the annual celebration, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Samy Abdelkader emphasized the need for the annual celebration.
His words: “Health and Safety is Lafarge’s number one priority. The safe operation of transport is a key element of our operations. We organized road safety events at our site to reflect the important of this issue to everyone at the site.

“Lafarge considers health and safety as it No. 1 business priority.
The company integrates health and safety objectives into management systems at all levels by regarding safety as the best indicator for performance of staff and contractors.‘Lafarge is the safest company in the world in its sector with a frequency rate of accidents with lost 0.76 (per million hours worked).

The road is still long, so Lafarge has set itself a target simple and ambitious: to achieve “zero fatalities and zero occupational disease.’’ According to him, across the world, it was estimated that 50 million people wre seriously injured in inroad incidents each year.
