manny4life: No, majority aren't subsistence farmers. They produce and sell directly to the public or wholesalers. Take for instance poultry farmers, they don't get taxed. Like I've stated a million times, small or mid size farmers ARE NOT taxed, it's the large scale ones who are involved into export say cocoa or cotton or groundnuts are the ones taxed.

Why they are not taxed may perhaps be because we don't have a set tax framework in place for that yet. However, that's not the FG concerns yet, they are trying to move people from small to large scale through other subsidized mechanized farming.
so those farmers and their employees are not taxed!! Even if they get an income.wow

all4naija: Mind you the FDI recipient nations report in Africa put Nigeria ahead of South Africa. What makes Nigeria seems to over-take your country in the near future is its potentials. From population to resources. Your country only has 45 million people in comparison to Nigeria 160 millions, meaning more human potentials(most important of all potentials) than your country's.

The government of Nigeria is working on providing more electricity and involving foreign investors in the sector to build more plans to meet demand. The only problem here is that there are restrain in doing business in Nigeria being a volatile place make the risk worth considering. The electricity being poor is a reason to prove that there is more potential in that industry than in South Africa. Investors are bound to have areas to invest in that sector unlike your country which is already saturated.

It is very clear Nigeria can over-take South Africa if other unforeseeable factors are not going to come up in the near future, like division of the country, war and just to mention a few.

i shake my head!! We are 51 million not 45, 160 mill pipo spells for disaster...expecially when you in africa!!

manny4life: Lol...Schooling me? It's more like you getting confused on what you have researched about or confused about what you studied in school... hehe

You just can't get over the simple fact that Nigeria is playing catch and there are greater potentials, then again, coming from someone who proclaims Nigeria's exports ONLY oil, and doesn't have a manufacturing industry, what can I say? grin grin grin
point one i was not school you. 2. WHAT ARE YOU MANUFACURING AND EXPORTING?

manny4life: What I'm saying is, your brother keeps talking about earnings or revenue is nothing and I simply said, that because the govt DOES NOT tax agricultural small or mid size farmers. If we were to tax million of small/mid size farmers based on their incomes or investment, it wouldn't make it small, would it?
are thay subsistance farmerhuh bt if they make profit even if they are small or medium! Taxes should be payed!! Why are they not taxed!!
Politics › Re: Nigerian Journalists Brutalised By South African Policemen by kgr28(m): 9:42pm On Feb 15, 2013
manny4life: What earnings? Seriously you need to quit, please. Your brother needs to call you to order.

Is earnings not revenues govt is getting such as fees, taxes, etc ? That the govt decides not to tax agricultural farmers as regular investment income doesn't make it small, so please quit it. If the govt was to tax EVERY activity in Nigeria, obviously, non-oil revenues will be much higher...
what the hell are you saying??

all4naija: Isn't it what South African economy is based on? Spare me the real GDP with little fact. It is clear many factors are left out in the case of Nigeria which by 2025, even without a rebase of the Nigeria economy it's supposed to over-take your country's .
yes every economy is based on that!! I was schooling your fellow country man!! Vision 2025...where dou you think SA will behuh Let me give you SA VISION NOW..jst google medupe power station...which will become the biggest power station in Africa by 2015 or so! You know what that means More FDI,More development,More jobs, everyone will have power and it will be cheap!! Nearly 90 percent of south africans have 24 hour electricity non interupted!

Please heart attack is REAL... See confusion, I pity you...SMH.

Abeg don't disgrace yourself anymore, you're a real shame to economic profession.

In all honesty, don't discuss it any further, you're disgracing yourself. cheesy cheesy cheesy
what do you export other than oil?? You even import tookpicks!! Nigeria is a big market of CONSUMPTION!! Do you have a manufacturing sectorhuh And what do you manufacture that you export??

all4naija: Why do you think it is a pipe dream? Is your country among those pushing for the down fall of Nigeria? The resources are there just they are not being utilized. The future has a lot to offer Nigeria but Nigerians are not taking the opportunity. It doesn't mean it can not overtake South Africa that has the world worst inequality.
in 60 years you still sing the same song, if all those resources where not used for the past 60 years what makes you think they will be used in years to come??

manny4life: School me? Lol, you need to school your man first.

Well, let me school you as well, since you mentioned GDP, there's the nominal and real GDP. You of all people should know that the real GDP reflects all economic activity that you've mentioned less inflation. So what are you on ranting about exactly?

GDP has four major components, for which you have mentioned most of it's sub categories, again, if the inflation has been adjusted for the nominal, so what are u ranting about?

According to your man's report, our export is indeed greater than our import, so for you to claim Nigeria doesn't export makes me doubt your graduate certification in economics... cheesy cheesy cheesy
you should put on your glasses and read what i wrote!! THE ONLY MAJOR COMMODY YOUR COUNTRY EXPORT IS OIL..SINCE YOU DONT REFINE IT THE INCOME YOU EARNED FROM EXPORTING IS OFFSET BY THE REFINED OIL YOU IMPORT. NOMINAL GDP CANT BE USED TO MEASURE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ECONOMY CAUSE IT USES CURRENT PRICES WHICH INCREASE THE VALUE OF GDP!! So homo reap what i said bout nomina and real gdp. Since you did economics in school not in varsity.. Will not discuss anythng further with you.

manny4life: Apparently you did not study economics in school, so why educate you? Apparently, every nations grows at different rate, after all the U.S. is there with a less than 2% growth rate of it economy, now compare that to China with double digit growth. Then again, I'm not here to educate you, nonetheless, if you need education, I wouldn't mind delivering it FOR FREE.
exactly where i wanted you to go!! As a graduate in economics let me school you. Expecially on economic growth, it simply mean the rate or growth in TOTAL PRODUCTION..the growth performance of the economy is measured in terms realGDP.. the effects of inflation removed, that we only refer to realGDP. Inflation can increase the value of GDP. and again when you talk of Gdp you have consider terms of trade, since you import more than you export, cause the commodity you export is oil, which means your inflation rate, balance of payments, and terms of trade is fvcked up. RealGDP per capita is also fvcked up. It means whatever you produce in nigeria does not belong to nigeria, you may produce more goods and services that will increase your nominal gdp..but the fact is you pay incomes and interest to the rest of the world..mtn,dstv, shoprite, game, etc. That stuff you produce aint your shyt. Now china may have double digid growth bt the walfare of its citizens will not compare to USA, china can have high growth but it will never surpass USA in anythng...WHEN USA IS TO BECOME BANKRUPT WE ALL FAVCKED...you might have heared of fiscal cliff. SA is a gateway to Africa .Should SA distabilize the rest of the continent is in deep kak!!

manny4life: Real nonsense...

I laugh at people people who think they can never be beaten. Let's hope the forecasters are WRONG that Nigeria has a greater chance of overtaking SA by 2020
where do you think SA would be by that year?? When you dream of vision 2020,2050,2100!! We SA will be way ahead!!

Nigeria will never catch SA, you can try but you wont... you can moan and rant you are the best, giants, educated but the reality you are far from equalling us. I dont mean economic wise...in terms of gdp your value may be high but it means shyt!! As china will never catch america with its economic growth..

Development, judiciary, intelligence, policing, armed forces, institutions, democracy, economicaly, research, public health -even with hiv problem, which seems to be your defence against SA, rule of law to mention the few!! What we archieved since 1994 to date, is something you could not do in 60 years of your dependence!! In 60 years as smart as you say, couldn't solve the problem of power supply...shyyyt!! You dont refine the oil you produce, SA has no oil, we get it from coal, we import raw oil and refine it ourselves.we have at least 4 refinaries, our petrol is delivered underground from refinaries!! Damn we good, if you dont believe, check SASOL and PetroSA...so fvckers whatever you say bout SA, what white pipo did, hiv and other BS you always say, you can go fly!! You can brag bout your education, which bears no productive results for your country, music-movies which is a disgrace, BBA-dont why you always like to brag bout it, soccerhuh Like our athem say NKOSI SIKELELI IAFRIKA..indeed God Bless Africa.
