Lebanon's health ministry said at least 92 people were killed in Israeli air strikes on Thursday, with hundreds more killed since the strikes escalated on Monday.

What happened over the weekend in the name of election in Edo State does not in any way represent the democratic process we chose as a method of electing our political leadership.

Instead, it was a blatant example of 'state capture' and continued gross undermining of our democratic process and values.

Any nation whose leadership recruitment process is so fatally flawed is doomed, and we are all seeing the effect in our country.

I urge those in authority not to allow this situation to stand, or depend on it to remain in power.

As a country, we have invested significantly in IReV and BVAS, and they must be allowed to function and used properly in order to free our electoral process from the massive falsification that has plagued it and worsening.


To the agencies and individuals being used to undermine our democracy simply because they hold positions of authority, please remember that your time in office is not eternal. The society that you are helping to destroy today will eventually take her revenge on you tomorrow.

To the lecturers and others complicit in perpetuating this charade, you must reflect deeply on the roles you are playing in damaging the very foundation of our democracy.

The damage you are causing today will inevitably take revenge on you tomorrow and affect your children in the future.

This kind of action has no place in a true democracy. That is why I have always maintained that today’s politics is not about capturing power, but about saving the country and making it work for everyone, regardless of their background.

I remain committed to building a new and truly democratic Nigeria, which I insist is very POssible.

HM Wale Edun led a federal government delegation, including the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Mr. Ibrahim Kabir Masari, and other officials, to Borno State on Friday to show solidarity with the government and people in the wake of the devastating floods that have severely impacted the region.

This visit follows earlier efforts by the administration, including Vice President Kashim Shettima's recent visit to Maiduguri, where he assessed the damage caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam and conveyed President Tinubu's message of support. Several other ministers and government officials had also visited to show their support for the state.

Building on these earlier visits, the federal delegation witnessed the flood's destruction firsthand and reaffirmed President Tinubu's unwavering commitment to providing relief and assistance.

In his address at the Borno State House, HM Edun extended his deepest sympathies to the victims of the floods, acknowledging the tragic loss of life, immense material losses and widespread displacement. He emphasized that the federal government is actively working to explore further avenues within the national budget to ensure financial aid and direct support are provided to the affected communities through the Ministries of Finance and Budget and Economic Planning.

The Honourable Minister also highlighted the importance of the presence of the National Security Adviser on this visit, stressing that President Tinubu understands that maintaining Borno's improved security situation is crucial, even amid the ongoing crisis.

HM Edun concluded by thanking Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for the warm reception and praised the resilience and courage displayed by the government and the people of Borno State in overcoming such adversity.
