Distance is not a determinant. You have to reach the minimum desired requirements.

As for whether I have vast experience as you said, its debatable. I have two years+ experience working for an NGO. That is not vast for my perspective.

The key is to meet the minimum requirements.

Honest truth is that only help I can render is to point you to place where vacancies are advertised and also advice you that you should check regularly and ONLY apply when you meet the requiremnts.

Case in point, I meet many of the requirments for jobs in USA by UN but dont bother applying. Why? Is it that I dont want to work there.

No. I am just simply realistic about my chances. Olnly apply to UN agencies within Nigeria and only ones your profile fits like a glove.

Go through the thread. StephenJobs applied for Tally Assistant and was interviewed last Sunday I think.

I know a staff there that told me that most of their international staff contract is expiring at the end of the year and that's why they are rushing.... To me 4 weeks is a bit far

It is our hurry mode that makes it far. The thing still needs the approval of the WFP President in Italy after the final recommendations of country director. But during mine I was asked if I was available immediately or would require notice in addition to telling me win or loose all interviewed candidates would be notified "soon". I think is not a matter of how long it takes for me but how well it ends since I am currently doing something. This is very important.

My Dear, it started as a nightmare. I was told it was going to be Skype and due time arrived, I waited. I had logged in, sat down properly, practiced all my lines. No call. thirty minutes later I called the HR representative and the person started making excuses about connection problems.

Ten minutes later they called me on phone and asked whwether I would accept a phone interview. Mind you, I had thought it was going to be skype so I had no earphone for the phone. My laptop's speaker and mic are very good.

Took me twenty frantic minutes to locate an earpeice. Tried it on and some voice frequencies could not be heard. Had to manage.

So here I was, two fingers pressing the earpeice to my ear and juggling to write down the questions.

If i had known it was by phone, would have had no problems.

Questions were why work for WFP, what advantage gained from WFP, how does WFP help achieve my career goal. Also how do I help my underlings.

Annonying thing is that I had setup a recording mechanisim for tghe skype and could not use it for phone.

But all in all I pray i move forward.

Just be prayerful and continue whatever you are doing. If it is meant for you it will definitely be yours. It is luck when situation becomes like this. My personal opinion though.

Thanks man....we did written exam on 15 Thursday, n I got a mail on saturday to come for an interview on 18 Sunday which I did....it was pure oral interview dat Sunday no test or whatsoever......n d interviewer said dey will get back to us in four weeks time....my guess is dat, they are rushing it probably becos they are in need of someone to fill d post soonest.......but mind u is just tally assistant that they are rushing o.

Dude I just came back now from dia office.....I was surprise myself wen I got the mail but have to honour it....we waited in the abuja office for HR team but they didn't show up, I call the HR that mailed me n complain, he call an IT staff present in the office at the time n ask d guy to setup skype for us. We ended up doing d interview on skype with 2 white guys n 2 nigerians......n for ur question, no other post was interviewed, we were just 3 n all for Tally Assistant.....

Best of luck. Did you do any written after or just oral and please when did you have the test before interview invitation?

I didn't know they do interview on weekend for a UN agency. That's only to confirm the rumor that they want to complete all recruitment before the end of the year. Most people would resume before the end of the year.

It was a beehive of activities at WFP country office here in Abuja. I was invited for a written test for Finance Assistant on Wednesday. 14 Dec. The exams was tactical but I did well. As if today people are still being tested and it seems likely that the interview for some position like mine would be done next week. Did anyone else on this forum apply for Finance Assistant?

Wiht regards to your later post, I work for an NGO and have some years of experience.

This is the third time I have been called for a UN job.

I believe you have a very solid experience in that sector backed with competitive and stelar qualifications. I know of a truth that UN doesn't joke with experience especially in any of her agencies or NGOs.

This isn't true. Sanusi was not an emir when this happened. He was still a Cbn governor and visited on a day he visited CBN Ibadan from where he proceeded to Oyo to greet Alaafin.
