Webmasters10 Common Errors In Website Design by LaifMedia(op): 3:58pm On Nov 23, 2017
A website for your business is no longer a luxury -- it’s a necessity. But, just because you invested in a website design doesn’t mean that it’s effective in connecting with your customers and ultimately improving your sales. While there could be numerous reasons why your website isn’t effective, here are 10 of the most common explanations for website fails.

1. It’s not mobile friendly
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to most of us, but for the first time ever mobile and tablet usage surpassed desktop usage. In other words, internet consumption is moving away desktops and in to the portable devices territory. This means that your business’s website has to be optimized for mobile users.
Unfortunately, there are still lots of websites that aren’t mobile-friendly. This is just bad for business since it can reduce conversation rates and deliver your customers a poor experience.
To make sure that your site is ready for mobile users, make sure that you use a responsive design, have large buttons and keep your layout simple and again, test it using tools like Google’s Search Console Mobile Friendly Test.

2. Contains too much Technical terms.
I understand that you’re an expert in your field and that you want to demonstrate your knowledge and authority. But unless you’re talking directly to your fellow industry experts, your average customer isn’t going to understand the technical language or industry jargon that you use to describe your business throughout your website.
Avoid the jargon and use simple and straight-forward language that your customers can easily understand.

3. Lacks content
Your customers have a problem. And they’re turning to your website to help them solve said-problem. That’s why your website needs to contain fresh and valuable content that answers real-life questions.
Remember, that doesn’t mean that they’re searching for your exact business. For example, our blog contains useful information for website designer and small business owners. If a person is searching for advice on ecommerce website, they could also land on our site because that’s the type of content we’ve been producing, as well.
In short, start a blog and keep writing awesome content. This will also help boost your SEO and content marketing efforts.

4. Hides essential information
Besides looking for information that will make their lives better, if customers are looking for your specific business, they want to easily locate information like:
• The address of your business. If you have a brick and mortar business, include a map link.
• Contact information, specifically a phone number and email address.
• Social media plugins.
• Hours, pricing and an “about us” page.
You’d be surprised at how many businesses still don’t have this information on their websites. And, if you’re like me, you may tend to stay from those types of businesses over security or legitimate concerns.
And, there’s really no excuse for forgetting this information. These additions are easy-to-integrate onto your site and usually free as well.

5. Loads too slowly
Customers expect a website to load quickly. In fact, 47 percent of consumers expect a website to load in just 2 seconds or less. And, that’s important to remember because an astounding 79 percent of shoppers who don’t enjoy their website experience less likely to ever return to that site again, nor buy from that site again.
You can test the speed of your site using tools like Pingdom and GTmetrix. These tools provide insights and advice on how to speed your site-up too.

6. Doesn’t have clear calls-to-action
You don’t want to leave your visitors in the dark by making them guess what you want them to do next on your site. So, give them clear instructions by creating a call to action button or hyperlinked text that is front and center.
For instance, Dropbox has a blue “Sign up for free,” call-to-action button that stands out from the rest of the page.
Remember, without these buttons, your potential customers won’t move forward with the services or resources that you’re offering. When that happens, you won’t get those all-important business conversions.

7. It’s outdated
Webpages that are maintained and have a current design build trust and credibility. That doesn’t mean that you need to update your site every month. But, if it’s been years since you’ve had a major website design overhaul, then it’s time to find something more contemporary. The last thing that you want is to have a site that looks like a Geocities page from the late 90s.

8. It’s annoying and cluttered
Believe it or not, there are still businesses that insist on having websites that have music or videos play automatically once your enter the site. Even worse, these sites are also full of banner ads, bright colors and flashy text. These sites are just plain annoying and end-up slowing the page down because it’s so cluttered.
So, how many people are going to ever click on that site again at work -- or anywhere else?
Keep in mind that a bulk of your visitors are browsing your site on mobile devices too. This means that you’re site should be clean and organized. Keep information to a minimum and use sub-headings, bullet lists and graphic elements so that visitors can digest this info in smaller chunks.

9. Shopping cart or payment platform is broken
Unless you’re relying on a third party payment gateway or shopping cart, then it’s your responsibility to frequently check to make sure that everything is working properly. You won’t be able to make a sale or receive a payment if your cart or payment processor is busted.

10. You don’t guide users to different pages
A lot of businesses send all their traffic to their website’s homepage, as opposed to relevant links that their customers actually want to land-on. This could be because service pages and other pages of the site are just an afterthought when designing a website. But, the fact of the matter is that the home page isn’t as important to general web traffic and the overall design.
Instead, start creating specific landing pages for the various types of potential customers you encounter and where they are in the sales funnel.

Webmasters12 Common Mistakes In Ecommerce Design by LaifMedia(op): 9:46am On Oct 24, 2017
Ecommerce can open up huge new markets for many businesses. When your store can be open 24/7 and you can reach a global market without the costs of mailings and call centers, it can be a huge boon to your business. But there are plenty of things to consider when designing an ecommerce site. It’s not as simple as throwing up some shopping cart software and plopping products into a database.

There are tons of mistakes that online retailers make every day, all of them avoidable with a little careful planning. And even if you’re already committing some of these mistakes, most of them are easy enough to fix. Avoiding them will greatly improve the experience of your customers.

Below are 12 of the most common mistakes that ecommerce sites make, as well as advice on how to avoid or fix them.

1.A lack of detailed product information

When you’re shopping in a gift store, you have the advantage of being able to pick up an item, feel it, look at it from every angle, and read any information on the packaging or labels. Shopping online removes that interaction. Ecommerce sites need to do the best they can to improve upon the in-store shopping experience.

How often have we gone to an ecommerce store and found their descriptions to be completely lacking? And if a customer is left wondering about the specifics of a product, they’re more likely to go look for the information elsewhere. And unless your site’s price is significantly lower than your competitors’, they’ll likely just buy from the other site.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Provide as much product information as you can. Sizes, materials, weight, dimensions, and any other pertinent information depending on what the product is. For example, in an online clothing store, you might include the fabric type, sizes and colors available, a size chart (usually linked from multiple products), the weight or thickness of the item, the cut and fit of the item, care instructions, and comments about the brand or designer. Using descriptive words rather than simply technical terms can have a greater impact on the consumer.

2. Hiding Contact Information

Consumers want to know that they’re dealing with a real company when they hand over their credit card information. They want to know that if they have a problem they’ll be able to talk to a real person and get the help they need. If your site doesn’t provide any contact information, or hides it so the consumer can’t find it easily, they’re less likely to trust your site, and therefore less likely to do business with you.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Put your contact information in an easy-to-find place on every page of your website. The most obvious places to put your contact information are either in your header, the top of your sidebar, or in your footer. Provide multiple means of contact if possible. A contact form, email address, phone number, and mailing address all add to the level of customer trust. Remember, too, that the more expensive or technical the product you’re selling, the more likely a consumer is going to want more contact information.

3. A Long or Confusing Checkout Process

This is one of the most damaging mistakes an ecommerce site can make. You have to make it as easy as possible for your customers to hand over their credit card information and complete their order. The more steps you put between them placing an item in their cart and actually paying for it, the more opportunities you give them to leave your site without completing their purchase.

The ideal checkout process includes a single page for consumers to check their order and enter their billing and shipping information, and a confirmation page before they submit their order. Anything more than that is only an obstacle to completing the checkout process.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Follow the ideal model as closely as you can. If you have to include other pages, try to make them as quick and easy to fill out as possible. Combine pages if you can, and use two-column layouts for certain sections (like putting billing and shipping information next to each other) to make pages appear shorter.

4. Requiring an Account to Order

This ties in directly to the previous item. If you require a customer to sign up for an account before they can place an order, it’s another obstacle you’ve placed in their path. Which is more important to you: getting the order or capturing customer information? Remember that the second option may mean losing some customers.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

There’s an easy fix for this. Instead of requiring a customer to sign up for an account before they order, offer them the option at the end of their ordering process. Give them the option to save their account information to make placing future orders easier or to track the status of their current order. Many customers will opt to save their information, and you won’t be driving away customers before they’ve completed their order.

5. An Inadequate Site Search Engine

If a customer knows exactly what they’re looking for, many will opt to use a search engine instead of sifting through categories and filters. You need to make sure that the search feature on your ecommerce site works well, and preferably has filters for letting customers refine their results.

How often have you searched for a product on a large ecommerce site and been returned with hundreds of applicable results? While the variety of options can be nice, if half of those results are nothing like what you’re looking for, it’s more an inconvenience than anything else. Including a way for customers to filter their search results by category or feature eliminates this problem.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Make sure the ecommerce software you’re using has a good built-in search engine, or look for plugins to extend its functionality. Ideally, an ecommerce search engine should let users search by keyword and then refine results based on the categories your site includes. Let users sort their search results based on standard criteria (most popular, highest or lowest price, newest item, etc.) as well as eliminating items that don’t fit within a certain category.

6. Poor Customer Service Options

This is similar to the hiding contact information bit above. You need to make it easy for customers to get in touch with you if they have a problem or question. Make it clear what the best way to contact you is if they have a technical question, a sales question, or they want to return an item. Offering a help request form for customers to fill out can instill more confidence than just an email address.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Use a ticketing system for customer service inquiries, especially if you don’t have a phone number available. Make sure that you post a FAQ that covers common questions customers might have, like what your return policy is or what to do if they need to order parts or replacement items.

7. Tiny Product Images

Since consumers can’t physically handle the products you’re selling before placing an order on your website, you need to do as much as you can to recreate and improve upon that experience. Tiny product images don’t effectively do this.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Either provide large images right on the product page or allow users to click on an image to zoom in. You want users to be able to view the image as large as is practical on an average monitor. This means an image that enlarges to 1024×768 pixels is a good size to aim for.

8. Only One Product Image

Unless your product is delivered digitally (and even sometimes if it is), you’ll want to provide multiple images from different angles. An image in each color, of the front, back, and sides, and even detailed shots of specific features can all go a long way toward making a consumer more likely to buy from you.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

This one’s simple: include more images. Four or five images of each product are ideal, offering enough views to allow a consumer to feel comfortable that they know exactly what they’re getting.

9. A Poor Ecommerce Cart Design

Your shopping cart is an incredibly important part of your ecommerce website. It needs to allow users to add multiple products, to revise the quantities or other options about those products, and it needs to remain transparent at the same time. Not exactly the easiest thing to do, right?

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Make sure your cart lets a user add an item and then return to the last page they were on. Even better: allow them to add an item to their cart without ever leaving the page they’re on (by using a mini cart). Let your customers edit the quantities of items in their cart or remove an item from their cart. And let them preview what shipping charges will be before they start the checkout process.

10. Confusing Navigation

There’s nothing worse than trying to find a product on a site with confusing navigation. Or even worse, an ecommerce store that doesn’t use categories or otherwise separate their merchandise to make it easier to find a specific type of product. The same goes for sites that have categories with no products in them or with only one or two items. Why even bother with a category?

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Think through your categories and navigation elements carefully before you start putting products in your catalog. Make sure that every category has at least a few products in it, or else group smaller categories together (or include them in larger, similar categories). Make it easy for customers to look through different categories, get to their shopping cart, and otherwise move around your site.

11. Not Including Store Policies

Before a customer buys from you, they’ll likely want to know what your shipping policies, return policies, and other store rules are. And there’s no reason not to post this information in a FAQ or somewhere else on your site. Making your store policies clear upfront can save a lot of headaches later on from customers who are unhappy with an order they’ve placed.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Use an FAQ or store policies section on your site to spell out exactly what your rules are for different kinds of customer interaction. It’s something that can save you tons of problems down the road.

12. Lack of Payment Options

There are plenty of sites out there that only allow users to pay with Visa or MasterCard, or to only pay with a PayPal account. There’s no reason for this anymore. What about the person who has an AmEx and doesn’t have or want a PayPal account? What about the person who doesn’t have a credit card and wants to pay straight from their bank account? You need to provide as many payment solutions as is practical to optimize the number of orders you get.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Use a payment service that lets customers pay with each major credit card, and preferably also with an electronic check. Adding a PayPal checkout option increases the choices your customers have, making them more likely to purchase from you. Considering different consumers have different preferences when it comes to making online payments, catering to as many as you can means you’ve expanded your customer base.

WebmastersWebsite Design: What You Need To Know. by LaifMedia(op): 1:49pm On Oct 09, 2017
An eye-catching website design that looks good is great. However, it must do more than look good.

Compare a business website design to the first thirty seconds meeting someone in person. That’s when their initial impression of you is formed. Your website may get even less time unless, as an interface, it communicates function with these elements

Ease of use so simple they’re not distracted by the mechanics.
Draw positive feeling and emotion about business from the visitor.
Present an attractive and professional appearance;
Offer an impressively easy format at first glance;
Clearly, label important information;
Make a positive first impression of your company business practices in text and graphics.
These elements of strategic design will guide you in identifying your goals and use them as guides to meet the business objectives that drive your website design.

Consider these steps to think through a strategically designed website project.

Define your Clients Goals

You must clearly define the client’s goals and understand exactly what you are expected to achieve designing or redesigning their website.

Just asking the client what their website goals are may give you enough information. However, it is common for the client to be unable to put into words the company’s objectives.

Spend the time needed discussing the options. Get to know their style and website goals. Then come to an agreement on a clear direction and purpose.

Web designers often struggle to put function above art. You want a visually attractive and well-balanced layout but web design is functional art.

The function of selling products, imparting information, giving access to services, entertainment and more must be fulfilled on your website design or redesign. The goals should be clear to everyone, especially when redesigning.

Know Your Audience

How your website looks and functions will depend on for whom and what purpose it is being designed. The demographics of the profession, technology, gender, age, common interest and more will influence your choice of aesthetics and usability.

An early learning website for preschoolers will be very different from a forum on aging. Usability for technologically savvy game playing websites will differ from an e-commerce site.

Audience influences other details such as font size and style, use of graphics and even color choices. Be conscientious about identifying with your audience.

Brand Image Drives Design

Designers love new trends and ideas and it’s easy to get carried away.

Adding flash and sizzle is great for some websites but not all. Your design projects an image; be sure the image represents the brand.

Goals Drive the Design Direction

You have taken the right steps and set achievable goals, established demographics of your audience and have a clear vision of the brand image. Now it’s time to sync design strategy with design decisions.

Where to start? Focus on the main objective of creating or recreating the website. This example of the first 3 steps uses “increased registration numbers” as the goal.

-The “About Us” text on the “Home” page must be clear, concise, and free of trade jargon. Describe the function so there is no
confusion.

-You want to draw the eye of the website visitor to the registration button or link. If you use brand appropriate color and contrast
the button or link will be instantly visible. Visitors to websites are not likely to take time looking for the place to sign up. Use your
design skills so their attention zero’s in with no confusion.

-The registration process should be as simple as name and contact information. Don’t make it a questionnaire, survey, or financial
inquiry. Keep it short and simple because people may be put off by the sight of a long drawn out form. That information can be
collected on an as needed and when needed basis.

These steps will direct your design toward the set goal of increasing sign-ups. This strategy of directing the focus of design elements toward the goal is the same regardless of the goal You want the aesthetics and focus that best suits the brand and audience.

If the brand is entertainment then focus on creating an emotional experience using shape, imagery, and sound.

If the website is meant to inform then make sure it’s easy to use and read. You want to create an interface that doesn’t distract the user from the content.

Design for the Right Audience

Everyone may be a potential customer but there is one right audience that stands apart. That audience is the most likely to be influenced by the products or services your website promotes. Focus on attracting that right audience.

Everything about the website including periodic advertising or promotions, product design, overall look, and feel are for one target group of people.

With these you could create a responsive and user friendly website.

WebmastersHow To Start A Website Or Blog Today. by LaifMedia(op): 3:40pm On Sep 26, 2017
A few years ago, only big corporations could afford the luxury of websites and blogs. Nowadays, no business strategy is complete without the tools that bring incredible benefits, including seamless customer interaction, credibility and round the clock availability.

With the growing popularity of sites, the building process has become easy and affordable. Now that you are seeking to tap into the benefits mentioned, here is how to have a taste of a website or blog today.

Get a Domain Name and Ready Your Content

Now, what do you want to share with the world? No one is ready to spend a second of their life reading “dolor sit amet consectetuer…” even if it is decorated in rainbow colours. You should have an idea of what you want to write in your blog or website, because it will play a role in web design and domain choice.

A domain name enables internet users to identify your website. It is unique to your website. That is why you will want to be as creative as possible when generating it.

Sometimes you will pick a nice domain name, only to realize that it is taken. You are trying to brand yourself or your business anyway, so there is no harm in aligning it to your message.

Set Up Web Hosting

A hosting company takes your website “live” so everyone that visits the internet can have access. Ultimately, your web hosting choice will depend on needs, pricing, and so on. It can be a tricky affair for a beginner because there are many options in the market.

For starters, web hosting can be Cloud, Dedicated, Shared, or Virtual Private Server (VPS) types. Knowing about these types of web hosting is just the first step; you need to look at plans, customer reviews, and inclusions before settling on one hosting service. If you would like guidance on getting the right web host, follow this link.

Start the Building Process

This is the most critical part of the process of starting a website or blog. Nowadays, this does not require too much skill because you can get apt software to do the job.

A good example is the free and easy-to-use Mobirise Responsive Website Builder. Such software makes the process amazingly effortless. You just need to download the software and start playing around with buttons.

Like in a screenplay, theme is critical for a website or blog. It is the driving force of the blog or site. Your theme choice can adversely affect your SEO so you had better take your time here.

You can also meet some experts in website design, to undertake the building process for you, if you are not tech savvy and you want it to be done as fast as possible.

The Website design agencies know how to put everything in the right place by using their expertise and engaging the web or blog owner. Here are some points that your website design should take into account in relation to the theme:

Ease of navigation
Contact information
Call to action
Footer information

Conclusion

Times have advanced to the point that not having a website or blog for your business is tantamount to staying in the cold. If you are in business, your competition is already using these tools so you just have to get yours. Not everyone has the skills or time to code and come up with a website.

The good news is that you can start the building process and finish the work within few days. As long as you can handle a laptop and have a few cash for hosting fees, nothing can stop you from having a nice website or blog.

WebmastersHow To Get Leads For Your Ecommerce Website by LaifMedia(op): 10:36am On Sep 22, 2017
A website that no one visits does you no good. An eCommerce website that a lot of people visit but no one buys from is equally as useless. The most important part of getting leads for your website is making sure those leads are targeted to your product or service.

Determine who your customer is, and where they are. If you have written a book on baking, your customers may be members of online baking groups or forums. They may be visiting baking related ecommerce websites. Make a list of places to find your customer.

Join the groups your customer may be a part of. Listen carefully to what they are looking for and interested in. Participate in the discussion where appropriate, but be careful not to blatantly advertise your product or service. Building a repertoire with your potential customers will go much further to establish yourself as an expert and promote your business. When posting to groups or forums, include your ecommerce website address and contact information in your signature.

Building a mailing list is critical to driving sales on your ecommerce website. However, you want your members to receive more benefits than just the privilege of receiving your advertising emails. Make sure your mailing list signup form is featured prominently, preferably on every page of your website. Let your ecommerce website visitors know that mailing list members get discounts, special offers, exclusive news, etc.

Consider PPC (pay per click) advertising. Google has an advertising program called AdWords, which allows businesses with any budget to place targeted ads on its search results pages. When a Google visitor searches a term related to your product, your ecommerce site advertisement appears alongside the results. The amount you pay varies, depending on competition in your industry and how close to the top of they page you want to appear. AdWords provides the advertiser a lot of flexibility, with daily budget limits and a robust control panel that allows you to adjust your ads and spending limits at will. The best part is that you only pay when someone clicks on your link.

Internet contains massive amounts of information for every type of business
.And there are online B2B services available that can get you leads from "ready to purchase" buyers. Most of these services provides "Pre Qualified" leads. These sites provides a unique services where buyer's can do their research and put in a quote request from the supplier or your ecommerce site.

Create informative video clips and post on YouTube. (www.youtube.com) Make sure to post a great description and keyword phrases to ensure your video shows up when people type in keywords related to your topic. Also, make sure to have your URL appear in the video so people can find you after watching the video. There are many videos on YouTube being viewed thousands, and sometimes millions of times. So make sure the video you create is chock-full of information to get people to visit your ecommerce site.
