CrimeNigerian Journalist 'arrested Over 4 Bank Heist' by Lancer1(op): 11:55pm On Apr 18, 2017
Nigerian journalist and former United Nations employee was busted for robbing four Manhattan banks — all during his lunch hour, authorities said.

Abdullahi Shuaibu, 53, was picked up by cops Monday and hit with two counts of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery for the crimes committed during his two-month spree.

All four banks are within walking distance of his office at the Foreign Press Center inside the US Mission to the United Nations, which is across the street from the UN building.

The Nigeria native works as a journalist for an African news agency, police said.

Authorities were led to the thief after a retired police officer who works as a guard at the US Permanent Mission to the UN recognized Shuaibu from a surveillance image previously released by the NYPD.

“It wasn’t hard [to recognize him],” the guard told The Post. “He comes in and out of here every day.”

In the first incident, Shuaibu walked into a Santander Bank on Madison Ave. near E. 43rd St. on Feb. 27 and told the teller he had a gun. The bank employee complied and handled shuaibu a huge sum of money.
He hit two more banks during the month of March, first striking out at a Bank of America on Third Ave. near E. 47th St. on the 13th. He was successful in robbing a Santander Bank on Third Ave. and E. 63rd St. on the 27th.
During the most recent incident on Monday, Shuaibu walked into an HSBC on Third Ave. and E. 40th St. around 2:30 p.m. and passed a note demanding cash to the teller. The teller did not read the note and asked Shuaibu for identification.

He then instructed the employee to read the note, keeping his hand in his jacket pocket while simulating a gun, police said.

Police arrested him later in the day when he returned to the UN.

One of Shuaibu’s colleagues at the Foreign Press Center said they are “all in shock right now.”

A UN spokesman said Shuaibu worked briefly for the United Nations for a couple of months in the fall of 2013, but hasn’t had access to the facility since leaving in November of that year.

“[He] is not an employee of the United Nations nor is he an accredited journalist to the United Nations,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said

PoliticsObasanjo 'sparks Up' Nigeria's Farming Policy. by Lancer1(op): 10:12am On Apr 14, 2017
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo wants both states and the Federal Government to collaborate with farmers in a bid to end hunger in the country by year 2025.

The former President made the call at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, when members of the Egba Cluster Farming Initiative paid him a courtesy visit.

Obasanjo stated that as the chairman of Zero Hunger farmers’ organisation in Nigeria, it was the resolve of the group to achieve this feat through increased food production, thereby creating “a situation where no Nigerian goes to bed or walk about hungry again

He said if given support and encouragement, farmers could make food available and affordable to Nigerians, thereby creating food sufficiency in the country.
According to Obasanjo, “Governments can help the nation’s farmers meet the objective through policy and creation of a conducive environment that will encourage food production.”
The former President urged the delegation to first start the cluster farming with fish, poultry, cassava and rice farms that “are less demanding of facilities before venturing into tree crops that have long gestation period before harvest.

Jimoh Ibrahim, as disclaimed news reports quoting him to have insulted ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ibrahim, an ex-Ondo State governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, said he could not have hauled invectives at Jonathan, who ruled the country on the platform of the PDP, because he held Jonathan in high esteem.

In a statement be personally signed on Thursday, Ibrahim disowned the Twitter account being quoted by some news outlet as the platform on which he attacked Jonathan.

He also dissociated himself from similar attack on a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who was the Director of the Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Organisation for the 2015 general elections.

“I wish to reiterate that I do not own or maintain any Twitter account either directly or by proxy. Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan is a brother and a quintessential gentleman and I hold him in high esteem. Chief Femi Fani-Kayode is a bosom brother and friend of utmost regard.

CrimeFacebook Discovers 30,000 Fake Accounts From France by Lancer1(op): 8:58pm On Apr 13, 2017
Facebook is taking action against tens of thousands of fake accounts in France as the social network giant seeks to demonstrate it is doing more to halt the spread of spam as well as fake news, hoaxes and misinformation. The Silicon Valley-based company is under intense pressure as governments across Europe threaten new laws unless Facebook moves quickly to remove extremist propaganda or other content illegal under existing regulation.

Social media sites including Twitter, Google’s YouTube and Facebook are also under scrutiny for their potential to be used to manipulate voters in national elections set to take place in France and Germany in coming months. In a blog post, Facebook said it was taking action against 30,000 fake accounts in France, deleting them in some, but not all cases. It said its priority was to remove fake accounts with high volumes of posting activity and the biggest audiences. “We’ve made improvements to recognise these inauthentic accounts more easily by identifying patterns of activity, without assessing the content itself’’, Shabnam Shaik, a Facebook security team manager, wrote in an official blog post. For example, the company said “it is using automated detection to identify repeated posting of the same content or an increase in messages sent by such profiles.’’ Also on Thursday, Facebook took out full-page ads in Germany’s best-selling newspapers to educate readers on how to spot fake news. In April, the German cabinet approved proposed new laws to force social networks to play a greater role in combating online hate speech or face fines of up to 50 million Euros (53 million dollars). These actions by Facebook follow moves the company had taken in recent months to make it easier for users to report potential fraud amid criticism of the social network’s role in the spread of hoaxes and fake news during the U.S. presidential elections. It has also begun working with outside fact-checking organisations to flag stories with disputed content, and removed financial incentives that help spammers to cash in by generating advertising revenue from clicks on false news stories.

PoliticsEaster:lagos Church Plans 'stomach Infrastructure For All' by Lancer1(op): 6:38pm On Apr 10, 2017
The Apostolic Faith Church headquarters for West and Central Africa (WECA) will provide free feeding, accommodation and soul-inspiring messages to intending retreaters during the 2017 Easter retreat. The church’s spokesman, Mr Kayode Adeleye, who said these; added that the retreat would hold from April 13 to April 17 at its Anthony Village headquarters, off Ikorodu Road, Lagos State.

Adeleye advised interested members of the public to come over only with their clothing and other few things saying the Lord of Easter would provide both the physical and spiritual foods they needed. He said that the retreat with the theme, “ Behold the Lamb of God’’, would be a soul inspiring one for all during the four-day it would last. He said the retreat would feature bible studies, counselling, film shows, prayer meetings and soul searching revival and evangelistic services. “The annual retreat will be a platform for many souls seeking divine intervention to their troubled minds to receive pardons and blessing from God. “Also, it will feature Easter concert in which the church’s choir and orchestra, reputably the largest single choir and orchestra, will sing Easter songs.’’ Adeleye said that the highlight of the concert would include Easter songs from the Handel Messiah, Symphony Orchestra, classical and other sacred music from the masters. “The concert will be attended by dignitaries from all works of life. “The church mass choir and orchestra will be on hand to render songs from the popular Easter tunes,’’ he said. Adeleye also said that the public should use the Easter season to reflect on how Jesus Christ died for the sins of mankind. “Easter is a time for sober reflections of how our Lord Jesus Christ came to the world to fulfill the mission of paying the ransom for the sins of mankind. “ The empty tomb of Christ announced to the world that God had accepted His death as a substitute for ours. “He had borne our sins in His own body on the cross. There is no need that any person be judged for his or her sins. Christ has been judged and punished for us all. “In the light of this, faithful all over the world have found hope in the resurrection of Jesus. “The church is, therefore, inviting all to come and enjoy the blessings that the Easter brings to mankind,’’ Adeleye said in a statement.
Politics2019 Election: Ali Modu Sheriff 'eyes' Anambra Gubernatorial Post by Lancer1(op): 6:29pm On Apr 10, 2017
Speaking at a meeting with Anambra PDP stakeholders in Enugu, ahead of the governorship poll, Sheriff said the state would be recaptured by the party.

Anambra was among the states governed by the PDP when Nigeria returned to civil rule in 1999.

However, the party eventually lost control of the state, which is currently ruled by the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

The All Progressives Congress has also mapped out plans to gain influence in the South-East by taking control of Anambra State during the governorship election.

Sheriff, who had been engaged in a supremacy tussle with former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Makarfi, over the leadership of the party, implored all PDP members to join hands with him to return the party to winning ways.

Stressing that ‘Anambra is a PDP state’, the former Borno State governor said he would draw from his experience in grassroots politics to deliver the state.

“Anambra is a PDP state; we are taking over the state this year.

“I am a grassroots politician – for you to win any election you have to get people from the grassroots.

“Without the people from the grassroots, no party will win election

“In my life, I have never failed any election – I started winning elections from councillorship to the top,” Sheriff boasted.

“It pains me that a state that was PDP state, by omission or commission, another party takes over the place,” he added.

Sheriff stressed that since an appeal court ruling has recognised him as the authentic national chairman of the party, he has vowed to make sure that Anambra State reverts to its original status as a PDP state.

He also revealed that a reconciliation committee has been set up to resolve problems in the Anambra State chapter of the party.

The planned reconciliation is aimed at ensuring that the embattled party forged a united front in the governorship poll.

“A reconciliation committee has been set up by the party to resolve all issues affecting the misfortune of the party in the state,” Sheriff disclosed.

Calling on PDP members in the state to work for the party’s victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, Sheriff said the party would thrive under his leadership.

“Anambra PDP must come together as one and win the state for PDP in the coming election,” he said.

The deputy governors of Enugu and Ebonyi states attended the stakeholders meeting, which held at Nike Lake Resorts, Enugu.

No reason was given‎ for the decision to hold the Anambra PDP stakeholders meeting in Enugu.

CrimeMan Beats Co-tenant 'black And Blue' Over Security Gate by Lancer1(op): 9:51pm On Mar 27, 2017
A 40-year-old driver, Ikechukwu Offor, who allegedly beat up a co-tenant for not opening the house gate in time and damaged his eyes, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

A resident of Lagos Street, Agege, Lagos, Offor is being tried for breach of peace and assault.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, the accused committed the offences on February 23 at a tenement building.

He said the accused assaulted a co-tenant, Mr Idowu Onajobi, by beating him and causing damage to both eyes.

Okuoimose said following an agreement by tenants, the complainant was nominated to be locking the gate at 11.00 p.m. and keep the key.

“The complainant was nominated by his co-tenants to be locking their gate at 11.00 p.m. as a result of the wave of robbery in the area.
The accused, who came home late after the gate was locked, started knocking the gate loudly, threatening to destroy it if the gate was not opened for him.

“When the complainant finally opened the gate, the accused descended on him for the delay.

“He punched him several times in the eyes and damaged the eyes,” he said.

He said the complainant was still in the hospital receiving treatment as he could not see clearly.

The offences contravened Sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Section 171 prescribes three years imprisonment for assault.

Offor pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mrs Y. O. Ekogbule, adjourned the case until April 17 for mention.
PoliticsGubernatorial Election: "Anambras Are Not Mumu"- PDP Aspirant by Lancer1(op): 6:37pm On Mar 27, 2017
Mr Oseloka Obaze, a gubernatorial aspirant in 2017 Anambra election, has said that ideas and merit rather than money would be the major determinant of winners in the election. Obaze, who is vying for the top job on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), said this on Monday while addressing newsmen in Awka.

He said he was confident that the electorate in the state were wiser and would not allow moneybags with little or no plans for them to buy their votes.
“Campaign financing here has certainly become an albatross for the qualified but not-so-rich aspirants; we intend to alter that mindset. “Politicians with deep pockets tend to seek to buy their way into office. However, when it’s all over, the people suffer. “This time the election and politicking will be issues and candidate-focused; we will appeal to the enlightened self-interest of the people. “I believe our people are wiser; they will surprisingly be more introspective this time around; those who want good governance and development must find ways to support the most eminently qualified candidates.” Obaze, who is from Anambra North Senatorial District as the incumbent, said he was not bothered about the endorsement of the governor by the people. “The so-called Anambra North Peoples Assembly (ANPA) endorsement reflects the views of less than 1,000 people who were consulted in the seven local government areas of the North. “As I see it, political endorsements are make-belief and make-happy episodic events. “Ironically, it is somewhat an elitist mindset that does not always reflect the reality on the ground and at the grassroots where the presence of government is not being felt and where the votes will be cast. “Our view from the North is that we should be given the opportunity to complete our second tenure. “However, if our South and Central counterparts insist on upending us and ousting the incumbent, then we are obliged to enter the fray and offer credible alternatives.” He expressed confidence that the election would be free and fair while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be above board in their responsibilities. “The notion of rigging, though a reality in our body polity, should not feature prominently or be accorded credibility. “INEC must consistently pass the litmus test of conducting elections that are sufficiently transparent, credible, free and fair at every juncture.” According to Obaze, five other candidates, including the governor, all from the North, are in the race for the Government House

PoliticsFmr Governor Ladoja's 4.7billion Naira Case Held Over Judge's Non-appearance by Lancer1(op): 5:48pm On Mar 27, 2017
The trial of a former governor of Oyo State, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, over alleged N4.7 billion fraud was, on Monday, stalled due to the absence of the judge presiding over the case, Justice Mohammed Idris.

The judge was said to have gone on a one-day training organised for judges of the Federal High Court by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.

Ladoja’s case was consequently adjourned till March 31 for continuation.

Ladoja is being tried alongside Waheed Akanbi who served as Commissioner of Finance under him.

The duo were accused of conspiring among themselves to siphon N4.7 billion from the coffers of the state and launder same.

In one instance, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who is prosecuting them accused them of converting a sum of N1,932,940,032.48 belonging to Oyo State to their personal own, using a Guaranty Trust Bank account of a company, Heritage Apartments Limited.

The EFCC claimed that they retained the money sometime in 2007, despite their knowledge that it was proceeds of a criminal conduct.

In another instance, Ladoja was accused of removing a sum of £600,000 from the state coffers in 2007 and sent it to Bimpe Ladoja, who was at the time in London.

The ex-governor was also accused of converting a sum of N42m belonging to the state to his own and subsequently used it to purchase an armoured Land Cruiser jeep.

He was also accused of converting a sum of N728,600,000 and another N77,850,000 at separate times in 2007 to his own.

The EFCC claimed that Ladoja transferred the N77, 850,000 to one Bistrum Investments, which he nominated to help him purchase a property named Quarter 361, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The EFCC told the court that Ladoja and Akanbi acted contrary to sections 17(a) and18 (1) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004 and were liable to be punished under sections 14(1), 16(a) (b) and 18(2) of the same Act.

CelebritiesMeet Woman With '200 Plastic Surgeries' by Lancer1(op): 3:35pm On Mar 25, 2017
Plastic surgery addict Monique Allen, 58, was left disabled and disfigured after almost 100 unregulated cosmetic procedures.

The retired government worker – who has had more than 200 hundred plastic surgeries – became obsessed with pumping liquid plastic into her body. And she estimates she has injected almost 12 litres during 75 backstreet operations.

Over the years, Monique has had a staggering 23 nose jobs and nine breast augmentations – taking her to a whopping bra cup size 38FFF.

But after decades of reckless operations, Monique wants to speak out about the dangers facing unsuspecting women desperate for a quick fix.

‘I went in at the deep end with cosmetic surgery and I’ve ruined the natural good looks I had – I wish I had never done it,’ admits Monique.

‘I’ve probably had around 200 operations over the years

Born a man, transgender Monique had gender reassignment surgery when she was 22 years old and soon after, achieved the D cup breasts she desired through surgery.

She next turned her sights on her nose, which has been an obsession over the years.

But after turning to silicon to enhance her curves, Monique became hooked and began seeking out treatment with unregulated doctors.

Twice-married Monique, who is now single, said: ‘In my twenties and thirties, as soon as I had a couple of hundred dollars I would head to Tijuana to have illegal silicon injections.

‘The doctor would numb you, then attach a funnel to whichever part of your body you wanted, then screw a vial of silicon on and pump it in.

‘I was so reckless, but I was obsessed with having more,’ admits Monique. ‘Once I saw a dark cloud appear under the skin where the silicon was going in – but even that didn’t faze me.

‘I was completely addicted and unwilling to think of the risks. My family begged me to stop but all I cared about was having more.

‘Even now, I would like anther nose job but doctors turn me away, but I understand why,’ she continues. ‘I’ve come to the realisation that I have a problem and I’m taking steps to address it.’

According to the lifedeathprizes, over the last few years, the Los Angeles resident has spent more than £100,000 having silicon removed from her legs, bottom, cheeks and chin.

‘Silicon was never meant to be put in the body in such large doses as is common now,’ says Monique. ‘I’ve heard of

“pumping parties” where people go to have vast amounts of silicon injected into their bodies.

‘I want young women to look at me before they think about getting unnecessary and dangerous cosmetic work done.

‘A lot of this stems from low self-esteem, which is something I am now coming to terms with.’

Politics"A Whistleblower Earns 6-figure Income"- F.G Assures Nigerians by Lancer1(op): 1:30pm On Mar 25, 2017
Following the federal government’s pronouncement for rewarding whistle-blowers, the anti-corruption fight has taken a new dimension. Now, it seems, more than ever, Nigerians are willing to be part of the crusade. From December 2016 when the policy was announced to date, there have been positive responses leading to major recoveries of looted funds and illegally acquired property.

The 19-point whistle-blower policy was rolled-out through the Federal Ministry of Finance after it was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The policy gives conditions on information about a violation, misconduct or improper activity that impacts negatively on the Nigerian people and government, who is a whistleblower, evidence that can be submitted, confidentiality of the whistle-blower and sanction for individuals and corporate bodies involved in diversion of public funds.

Last week, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement re-emphasized government’s commitment to protect and reward whistle-blowers who provide information that leads to the recovery of stolen funds or assets. According to him, the identity of all whistle-blowers, whether in the public or the private sector, will be protected and also ensure that the information they provide is kept secret.

“For those who may have suffered any backlash as a result of the information they provide, their cases will be reviewed and appropriate mitigating actions taken.” The assurance followed reports that the identities of some whistle-blowers might have been compromised. The minister pointed out that whistle-blowers have nothing to fear, because the Presidential Assets Recovery Committee has put in place the necessary measures to safeguard those who give useful information. “As a matter of fact, whistle-blowers have everything to gain and nothing to lose,” he said.

As such, the minister further reminded Nigerians of the rewards for any whistle-blower whose information leads to the recovery of looted funds. He said any whistle-blower will receive 5 percent of the amount up to N1 billion, between N1 billion to N5 billion will get 5 percent for the first N1 billion and 4 percent of the remaining N4 billion and that any amount over N5 billion will attract 2.5 percent reward. He said the information was made public to reassure potential whistle-blowers that the plan to reward is real. “We are not just saying we will pay all whistle-blowers, but we are letting them know in advance what they are entitled to, once the information they provide leads to the recovery of looted funds,’’ he said.
