The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday said it shortlisted 338,227 applicants out of the 911,438 that applied for recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force. The Chairman of the Commission, Mr Mike Okiro said screening of successful applicants would begin on June 6 in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has filed a suit before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, seeking the enforcement of his fundamental rights. Mr. Fani-Kayode made the application in response to his continued detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, after he was invited for questioning on May 9. Counsel to Mr. Kayode, Ifedayo Adedipe, prayed the court to compel the EFCC to either release his client, or charge him to court, saying Mr. Fani-Kayode’s continued detention was against the law.

The Nigeria Immigration Service has ordered officers at the various airports to arrest all ex-political office holders still in possession of their diplomatic passports. Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Newly appointed Comptroller-General, Mohammed Babandede said the deadline for the return of these passports has long expired and must now be retrieved by force.

Cambodia-based footballer Harrison Chinedu broke the official world record for balancing a football on the head while walking. Chinedu began his journey Sunday 06 March at 7am from Kilometre 46 at the RCCG Redemption Camp and broke the record by not allowing the ball to touch the ground before reaching the National Stadium in Surulere. The history-making event which was flagged off by representative of Minister of Youth and Sports, Demola Ali, after the ball and his head was inspected by President of Nigeria Referees Association, Tade Azeez assisted by former FIFA-badged referee and senior lecturer at the National Institute for Sports, Dr. Alex Mana, and ex- Olympian, Henry Amike, saw him trek from the Redeemed Camp to the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. At the National Stadium, he trekked round the main bowl eleven times to break the record before trekking further eleven times to set a new record.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is sending 20 officers to United Kingdom (UK) and South Africa for special training on combat operations aimed at sustaining the capacity of the military to deploy aerial forces to troubled parts of the country. The Flying Officers who were selected after the completion of their courses at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are expected on return to beef up the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations against Boko Haram in the North East and if necessary, drafted against the resurgent militants in the Niger Delta.

Testifying at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Wednesday, Michael Wetkas said the company, Carlie Property Limited belongs to Saraki. Upon cross-examination by Paul Usoro (SAN), Wetkas maintained that a piece of undeclared property‎ at Plot 2482 Cadastral Zone Maitama, Abuja was Saraki’s. He disclosed that Saraki bought the property in 1993, but that he did not declare it in 2003 when he became governor of Kwara state. Quizzed whether or not Saraki had his name in the deeds of the property, Wetkas‎ said: “No, it was not mentioned.”

The MPC decided that it would embrace flexibility in foreign exchange but it did not announce any band. CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele told journalists that an announcement would be made as soon as a band is agreed upon. Before now, the MPC had vehemently resisted calls for the devaluation of the naira following the depreciation of the currency in the parallel market. The naira is currently trading at N340 to the dollar in the parallel market as against the official rate of N197. The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has appealed to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to call off the ongoing strike over the hike in fuel pump price. A Federal High Court judge has adjourned till Wednesday ruling on the application filed by the spokesperson of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh to travel abroad for medical treatment. Metuh had missed the last court hearing after he reportedly fell ill and had to be hospitalized as his health deteriorated.
