TravelCustomer Experience; The Hoteliers Greatest Currency by logan86(op): 3:55pm On May 31, 2017
INTRODUCTION
In every service venture, there are two complimenting sides; the provider of the services and the customer for whom the services are provided. A customer's patronage of any service made available by the producer hinges on that service being able to satisfy the need of the customer. If a customer offers his patronage to a service provider and finds out that the purchased service was unable to meet his/her demands, the guarantee of further patronage becomes greatly diminished. The primary concern of any Nigerian hotel should not be the maximization of profits as an isolated goal but a quest for maximized earnings that is supported by a vigorous pursuit of customer satisfaction through the entrenchment of customer - friendly services which would guarantee total contentment of the guest with the quality of services offered.

In the hospitality business, the customer's satisfaction should be of paramount importance to the hotelier. Robust earnings by hotels, guest houses, resorts and other hospitality providing entities hinge on positive recommendations, sustained patronage and favorable ratings. These 3 factors are hugely dependent on the levels of customer satisfaction. In Nigeria, hotels in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kaduna generally have an average of better ratings than hotels elsewhere, a possible consequence of the maturity of the hospitality markets in those regions and the realisation of the strong correlation between customer service and hotel reputation.

Most travel and hotel booking sites encourage users to rate and leave reviews for hotels that they were referred to. Hoteliers know that they cannot change these third party reviews once they have been dished out, and that they can only hope to influence future reviews and ratings through impeccable customer service and delivery.

Below are a few steps that hotels can follow towards optimizing positive customer experience.

(1) Be honest: The quality of facilities available within a hotel is usually proportional to the pricing policy of that particular hotel. When a low cost hotel promises high class facilities and services on their web and advertising platforms all in a bid to lure gullible clients, these clients would end up thoroughly disappointed when they find out that their expectations have been dashed. Do not offer what you don’t have as you will only end up hurting your customer patronage and referrals to your hotel.

(2) Maintenance culture: Just as the provision of top notch facilities within a hotel is important, routine maintenance of such infrastructure is equally as important. It would be completely anti-profitable for a guest to book a room with state of the art television set only to pick up the remote control and find out that the TV set is out of service.

(3) Training of personnel: Even in a hotel that boasts of excellent facilities, a display of non-chalance by a receptionist or concierge can greatly dent the image of the hotel. Most customer experiences with hotels are shaped by the encounters of these customers with persons working in such facilities. It is therefore critical to every hotel that intermittent trainings be organized for staff on how to deal with customers even when they (the customers) are being irascible. Many hotels in Nigeria have realized the importance of consistent training of staff on customer relations and often make such training compulsory or organize it as a retreat. Hotels that have been known to do this in Nigeria include: Nicon Luxury, Intercontinental Lagos Hotel, Regent luxury suites and Reiz Continental Hotel.

(4) Provision of out-of-the-box customer services- Hotels can forge personal relationships with their customers, and by so doing boost customer satisfaction and revenue generation. This can be done by certain customer care services like sending congratulatory messages on their birthdays and anniversaries, providing complimentary services and facilities e.g. toiletries, wine and water to guests and also by offering regular guests price discounts.

These simple steps can lead to improved positive customer experience for a hotel, and would definitely precipitate greater profit potentials and better ratings for any hotel in the hospitality industry that seeks a competitive advantage over its rivals.
PropertiesHow To Get Cheap Or Free Hotel Rooms In Nigeria by logan86(op): 6:06pm On May 23, 2017
Why must you overpay or break your account for your next hotel booking? Free hotel rooms in Nigeria! Hard to believe right? At the end of this article you would have become an expert on cost-saving ways to book a room. It is safe to say that most Nigerians are looking for cheaper alternatives especially in an economic situation generally tagged as difficult. The number of ways to get cheaper or even completely free rooms are fairly numerous and are fully enunciated below.

The most certain way of getting cheaper room rates is by booking through a hotel booking agency. When compared, booking agencies rates are relatively cheaper than the actual hotel’s booking sites. This is because most hotels often offer lower rate for booking agencies like hotels.ng to list on their site in a bid to secure higher patronage. So the next time you think of booking a hotel room, use a hotel booking website - there are several out there.

Subscribing to hotels’ loyalty or patronage offers is a strategy that most seasoned travelers use to get discounts when they book hotel rooms, in some cases, free rooms are earned. There are several hotels in Lagos,
Abuja, Port Harcourt, and cities throughout Nigeria that have customer loyalty programs. These include: Protea hotels (Prokard Explorer), Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts (Reward Club), xRenaissance Hotel (Marriot Reward) and so on.

With these programs, you get exceptional benefits, fantastic savings and exclusive privileges no matter which of their hotels you choose to stay in across the country - whether it’s for business or for pleasure. Some other possible benefits include free meals, exchanging points for free nights and increased discounts when you book for others using your card. It is to be noted that while hotels directly offer loyalty programs, some third-party booking sites offer some of these benefits as well.

Booking during peak periods is a sure way of getting the lowest rates possible. Peak periods include festive celebrations such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day and the likes. Hotels often reduce their rates, offer discounts and even complimentary gifts during festive or celebration periods in order to increase their patronage.

Bundling your flight and hotel bookings together often saves a lot when planning your trip. Cumulatively, you get a better deal on both the flight cost and the hotel rates. Most hotels now realize that most clients book flights or use transport services before they get to their destination, hence, they become proactive by agreeing to bundle plans offered by most travel agencies. It is therefore more prudent to make your next hotel bookings and flights arrangements on booking websites like
hotels.ng. So ask your travel agency today of current flight and hotel bundles of your next destination.

While you don’t have the time to keep a close eye on prices, you can sign up for alerts through booking websites. They often send mails to subscribers to alert them of price cuts on room rates, and available deals. You should definitely find an online travel agency, and subscribe to their mails!

Don’t hide who you are! If you are a travel/hotel blogger, celebrity, public personality, CEO or a social influencer of sorts, hotels might offer you free or cheap rooms, or bump up your treatment to 5-star level in exchange for you promoting their hotel brand.

Also, you can take advantage of hotels’ mobile apps. Most hotel apps unlocks tons of discounts when you download the app or book a room using the app. Most prominent hotels have an app, so search for it. You can also get loads of discounts when you book using certain apps like hotels.ng. Some hotels that offer discounts for using their apps include
Marriot International,
Nicon,
Sheraton Hotels and many more.

The need to engage in the above cost-minimization strategies becomes increasingly important in light of the current difficulties in the country, hence, it would be highly recommended to take advantage of at least one of the above methods and watch your cost of taking a hotel room fall. TravelFilm, Tourism, & Integration Crossroads by logan86(op): 5:05pm On May 19, 2017
Nigeria is a country of about 180 million people. As is expected of a population so large, Nigeria is very diverse with over 500 languages spoken, and over 300 tribes in the country. This diversity, beautiful as it is also causes friction, conflict and confusion.

Hotels.ng, Nigeria’s biggest hotel booking platform looks at how through film, Nigeria can make the best of its potential to diversify into tourism, and help integrate Nigeria’s 180 million-strong population.
Great films are impressionable, and this property is the one most important attributes of film that makes it the perfect tool for driving the tourism sector and helping to create better sociocultural integration in Nigeria.

Film and Tourism
Already, Nollywood has crafted a name for itself as a huge content churning machine whose dominance spreads across the lengths of Africa. In a BBC report where Africans from other African countries were interviewed on their perception of Nigeria, nearly all the respondents that had positive things to say formed their impression on Nigerians through their exposure to Nigerian cinema. With a little bit more effort, Nigerian films can be transformed from just a platform to tell the Nigerian story into one through which we draw tourists to the country.

Arugba, a 2008 movie that centred around the Osun Osogbo festival is a beautiful example of a movie that was designed to entertain, showcase Nigeria's diversity, and attract tourists from all corners of the world.

Several other movies that were set in Lagos, Abuja , Calabar, Ibadan and other locations that have infrastructure to benefit from tourism can enjoy increased flights, hotel lodgings, sales of memorabilia and other economic benefits that come with tourism.

Film Tourism
Film tourism is an aspect of tourism that benefits from movies that have showcased the locations where they were shot or assumed to be shot in favourable light. Films that create this opportunity usually tell great stories and are set in scenes and locations that feature in the movie in ways that evoke an emotional connection of story and location.

London for instance is one town that has drawn tourists through great films such as Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and Sherlock Holmes amongst others.

Nigeria does not have a shortage of impressive landmarks and iconic locations and through great storytelling and mastery of cinematography, we too can promote and create landmarks of locations in Nigeria and develop tourism in the process.

Film and sociocultural integration
Sociocultural integration is defined as the incorporation of disparate ethnic, social and cultural elements of a population into a unified and unrestricted society.
Nigeria's vastness and diversity already creates a problem of constant friction of cultures and beliefs. This friction coupled with residues from the Nigerian civil war creates a constant threat of conflict that the country must live with.

In other countries such as Rwanda that have faced similar wars and that have similar challenges as Nigeria, film makers have sought to retell the stories of horror and loss to the public through movies like Hotel Rwanda and Sometimes in April with the expectation that it reminds the public of the horrors of war, and the chaos that could have been avoided had peace been embraced.

Also, great films help bridge social divides as they bring together people from all social strata through great storytelling. For years in Nigeria, Wale Adenuga's Super Story was a common social bonding point for Nigerians as are new movies that proliferate the Nigerian entertainment space today.

Through films, people from different tribes and culture get to learn that other cultures aren't so different from theirs and that common grounds exist in all Nigerian cultures. Great movies help to reinforce these similarities while setting up cultural differences as things to be appreciated and proud of. The unlikely romance in movies like '76 and North East help to reinforce this message. Twists such as those in October 1 pass this exact message too as do several from great Nigerian movies.

Final Thoughts
“No art passes our conscience in the way film does, and goes directly to our feelings, deep down into the dark rooms of our souls”. These are the words of Ingmar Bergman, a celebrated film maker. The quote shows the very reason why films are a subtle and effective way of igniting an idea and reinforcing them, the reason why they are the perfect tool for driving tourism and socio cultural integration.

Nigeria, over to you!
TravelNigeria’s Biggest Airport - All You Need To Know About Mmia by logan86(op):
Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA is Nigeria’s biggest and busiest airport – connecting flights from states across Nigeria and cities all over the world.
It was established during WWII in 1945 and has kept growing ever since. Known first as Lagos Airport, it was renamed Murtala Muhammed International Airport in honour of the man, Murtala.
Before 1999, when President Obasanjo prioritized security at the airport, it was notorious for being a corrupt, dangerous, and unsafe airport. Security has since improved however, and MMIA’s efficiency and safety indices have risen to acceptable levels.
The airport has separate domestic and international wings that share the same runway, and its domestic wing has airlines such as Arik Air, Overland Airways, and Aero Contractors as some of the few operators.
Over time, local online flight booking solutions such as that provided by Hotels.ng/flights allow users book flights conveniently. The airport also hosts more than 30 cargo and commercial airlines.
In a city like Lagos where connectivity by road is a major challenge, The Murtala Muhammed International Airport is located strategically, with reasonable distances of 4km to Ikeja, 20km to Lagos Island, 24km to Ikoyi and 25km to Victoria Island.

Lagos Airport Facilities
The easiest way to get to Lagos Airport is by taxi. The airport has a general car park large enough to accommodate 800 cars and is divided into the VIP Car Park and Executive Membership Car Parks. A covered walkway links the parking and the terminal. Parking at MMIA costs NGN 100 per hour and NGN 1,500 per day. Executive Membership Car Park charges an annual fee of NGN 500,000.

Branches and ATMs of the major Nigerian banks are located at the airport’s international terminal, along with a bureau de change and a post office. Also, free Wi-Fi is provided for flight passengers in the business waiting lounges.

There is a choice of business and VIP lounges in the terminal complex. The airport also has several prayer rooms, meeting rooms and display screens for convenience and comfort.

Lagos Airport Restaurant
The onsite restaurant at Lagos Airport serves delicious African and International delicacies. There are also bars within the airport.

Shopping at the Airport
The airport has a few retail outlets - some duty free that sell health products and gift items like mobile accessories, watches, etc.

Shuttle Buses to the Airport
Most luxury hotels near Lagos Airport such as Lagos Airport Hotel, Best Western Lagos Hotel, Sheraton Lagos Hotel and Ibis Lagos Airport Hotel arrange shuttle transfers for their guests as part of their service coming in from the airport.

The MMIA remains Nigeria’s top airport. If you’ll be using it soon, you can make a pick from these hotels that balance proximity to the airport with affordability and availability of bus shuttle services.
