Thanks for the analysis robobo: if the news of buyout/delist flies below are my night school analysis of what a fair price should look like
Lafarge (Wapco) back of envelope possible buy out price (going by link shared by sunrise)
Hoacin bought Lafarge Zambia with a capacity of 1.5m/t for $150m for 70%
Meaning 100% of Lafarge Zambia is priced at $200m for 1.5m/t which equals $133m for 1m/t capacity
Hoacin bought Lafarge Malawi with a capacity of 0.25m/t for $10m for 100% which equals $40m for 1m/t
Above means Hoacin paid an upper of $133m for 1m/t capacity and a lower of $40m for 1m/t with an average of $89m for 1m/t
From above for a Lafarge Nigeria with a capacity of 10.5m/t the
Upper buy could be 10.5 by $133m equals $1.4bn @ 1600/$ gives N2.24 trillion with outstanding shares of 16.11bn gives a valuation of N139 per share
The average buy could be 10.5 by $89m equals $935m @ 1600/$ gives N1.5 trillion bn with outstanding shares of 16.11bn gives a valuation of N93 per share
Lower buy could be 10.5 by $40m equals $420m @ 1600/$ gives N672 million with outstanding shares of 16.11bn gives a valuation of N42 per share
So we have three possible scenario of N42; N93 and N139
42 is already affirmatively broken, so maybe we could test 92 next (if no info comes out before it gets there)
Selah
i have some few units of Wapco so i might be blinded by sentiment |

My exact thoughts on the matter. mikeapollo: My brother, let us be open-minded and happy whenever one of us here says he/she has made some good fortune from NGX. We have nothing to lose if it is true. And if the person is faking it or deceiving himself, you have nothing to lose as well even if you believe him/her. Only a shallow-minded person would be deceiving himself/herself here with money that he/she has not made. After all, our pictures and identities are not disclosed on this platform, so there is nothing to gain in terms of publicity from making false claims here. Going by the depth of analyses that she does on stocks, I for one would not doubt if @bovali (or any other person) claims he/she has made N500m or N1b from Oando or any other stocks
It could sound like skin-pain; as if we are unhappy, sad, petty, envious or jealous when we describe someone's breakthrough as ''fake like''. Some people on this forum can make more than N500m from a single deal or stocks on NGX. We have different investment goals, strategies and different background, experience, opportunities, luck, privileges, capacity etc., hence what may sound or look impossible to one person may be achievable for someone else. Oando, in particular, could have turned a lot of people into multimillionaires and billionaires overnight, especially those who acquired multi million units when it was selling for N3; N5; N8 etc. Someone who bought like 10m-15m units at that time is already a billionaire or about to become one. After all, we all are here because we hope and pray to make it in the NGX, even if we have other legitimate sources of income, business etc. Let us just be happy for them, and it will get to everyone's turn, one by one. |

Spot on @Ositadima1, Berkshire Hathaway itself was a textile manufacturer that failed because of price war from imported Taiwan textile before Buffet turned it to conglomerate with cash mainly from his insurance business Getco. ositadima1: Buffett was lucky for several reasons, which I will discuss later. He wouldn't have come this far if he were to start today as a young man, regardless of what his proponents might say.
Let me start with the fact that while he had both big losses and big wins, he actually built his wealth by investing other people's money - lots of it. It's not the "from scratch" tale that people often tell.
Warren Buffett has had several notable investment losses throughout his career, which demonstrates that even the most successful investors make mistakes. Here are some significant examples:
Dexter Shoe Company (1993): One of his worst investments - Buffett bought the company for $433 million in Berkshire Hathaway stock. The company later became worthless due to foreign competition, and the Berkshire shares he used to buy it would have been worth billions today.
ConocoPhillips (2008): Buffett bought shares near oil price peaks, later admitting he made a "major mistake" when oil prices collapsed. Berkshire lost several billion dollars on this investment.
US Airways (1989): Buffett invested $358 million in preferred shares. While he eventually made money on this investment, it was very volatile and he later called it a "mistake."
Tesco (2013-2015): Berkshire lost about $444 million on its investment in the British supermarket chain after an accounting scandal.
IBM (2011-2018): While not a total loss, this investment underperformed significantly. Berkshire sold most of its stake at a small gain, but opportunity cost was significant.
Buffett likely wouldn't have achieved the same level of success starting today, for several key reasons:
1. Market Environment Today:
- Sophisticated algorithms and high-frequency trading - More competition from hedge funds and institutional investors - Information is instantly available to everyone - Much harder to find undervalued companies - Markets are more efficient and regulated
2. Entry Barriers:
- Would need much more capital to start - Harder to get wealthy people to trust a young investor - More regulatory requirements for managing others' money - Need expensive licenses and compliance systems - Competition from low-cost index funds
3. Different Opportunities:
- The bargains he found in the 60s-80s don't exist anymore - Can't buy whole companies as cheaply as he did - Insurance "float" strategy is widely known and copied - Private equity firms compete for business acquisitions - Higher valuations across all markets
4. Today's Successful Investors:
- Often focus on technology (which Buffett largely avoided) - Need quantitative/technical skills - Require faster decision-making - Use complex financial instruments - Need large teams of analysts |

You understand how this things work, he had said it that the mistake is made last time was picking the wrong people. If snake don bite you before you go dey fear earthworm. ogbonti: ONCE BEATEN TWICE SHY
when Trump picked some members of the GOP establishment just to gain acceptability, what happened ?
Jeff Sessions was made AG and he betrayed Trump by recusing himself from the Mueller Investig which exposed Trump to bad press
John Bolton nko? a member of the Bush GOP establishment - did he not betray Trump and lied against him?
What about the black lady Omarosa? was she not the one leaking to CNN within hours of Trump transition team deliberations ?
LOOK - with all Trump has suffered in the hands of the so called establishment - IF he decides to make ONLY his friends appointees
In his administration - I will not fault him. He has been burnt before by disloyalty - he needs all the loyalty now to perform
