Politics › Re: New Tax Laws: 'You Misunderstood The Policy Intent' - Oyedele replies KPMG by maivd: 11:44pm On Jan 10 |
Konquest: Succinctly put by Taiwo Oyedele.
Taiwo Oyedele has done a very brilliant job despite being a private sector business leader by explaining the newly harmonised Tax Reforms CLEARLY on podcasts and media appearances debunking all the fake news circulating on useless blogs and YouTubers looking for clickbaits and he does his explanations with simple anecdotes and in a calm voice.
Just for emphasis, about 90% of Nigerians who earn less than N100,000 monthly will NOT be involving in the PAYE (pay as you earn) according to Oyedele. He ALSO stated that VAT has been removed on medications, wheat for making bread and other essential items, therefore the price of bread is set to fall.
Already, I read 3 days ago online that due to the new Tax Reforms in Nigeria which started on January 1, 2026, MTN Nigeria has already reduced some of the rates they charge. Therefore other Telecoms providers would follow MTN's example.
What is needed is a "price watch mechanism" BECAUSE of the greed of many Nigerians in the informal and semi-formal sectors who inflate prices of transportation, food items and consumables BUT refuse to reduce the cost of food items when favourable reforms are introduced due to greed.
Last but NOT least, the Nigerian Governments at all levels MUST STOP being soft or lenient with ALL those who deliberately spread FAKE news reports and other forms of massive disinformation via YouTube channels and on crappy blogs. Enough of the misinformation. The same FAKE news for clickbaits and disinformation on YouTube channels occured when AJ had a horrendous Lexus SUV crash on his way to his Sagamu hometown in Ogun State with two of his close buddies, the British-Nigerian Latif "Latz" Ayodele and British-born Sina Ghami of Iranian descent. If it looks good on paper and reality speaks otherwise, then it's useless. Oyedele and is co-travellers can't feel the impact,so they can afford to speak big grammar all day. |

Don't be dull and criticize people anyhow, Japan is the 4th richest country in the world. The level of idol worship in Japan is more than what we do in Nigeria. You will see malls as big as ShopRite at every corner and right next to it is a well nourished shrine, I mean in the open shrine no hiding like we do In Nigeria, go to companies, right there in the office reception you would see idol well positioned facing you out in the open. But minions like you, just because you have access to a cheap phone and small data, you feel it gives you right to call people names. ariesbull: Entire Igbo towns have survived, upgraded, and modernized because their people left (Traveled abroad).
Not because of oil. Not because of federal projects. Not because of NGOs.
But because Igbo migrants abroad organized themselves and sent development home deliberately.
This is not remittance. This is parallel governance.
What Actually Happened: From the 1970s onward, as Igbo men and women migrated to:
•the United States •the United Kingdom •Germany •Italy •Canada •South Africa •Asia
they did not dissolve into individual survival. They reassembled abroad as town unions. Same village. Same town Same obligations. Distance changed nothing.
While governments debated budgets, Igbo town unions abroad:
•built hospitals where none existed •funded schools when public ones collapsed •graded roads abandoned by state authorities •installed transformers and water systems •rebuilt markets and civic halls
In some communities, every functioning public structure traces back to diaspora funding. No logos No plaques No donors’ conferences. Just completion.
Why This Is Not Normal
Most migrant groups send money to families.
Igbo migrants sent money to villages.
They taxed themselves. They fined defaulters. They published accounts. They commissioned projects publicly.
Failure to contribute was not “unfortunate.” It was dishonourable.
This was not generosity. It was duty enforced by culture.
The Part No One Talks About
In many towns: •diaspora funded schools outperform government schools •clinics built by unions are the only ones with drugs •roads built by town unions are the only ones that last
Yet these projects appear: •nowhere in development rankings •nowhere in donor reports •nowhere in national pride narratives
They exist outside recognition.
This is not about money.
It reveals a system where:
•leadership is collective •accountability is social •progress is expected, not praised
A people who can: •self-tax across continents •coordinate without a state •deliver infrastructure without aid
are not underdeveloped.
They are under-recognized.
The Question That Should Unsettle Us
If a people can build:
•hospitals from Houston •roads from London •schools from Milan
Then what they lack at home is not intelligence. Not work ethic. Not capital.
Today in many Igbo villages senior citizens and old people are being paid stipends from #50,000 upwards by wealthy individuals, those that are poor, many homes are built and given to them at no charge, no tax, no mortgage while their kids are taken to be shown the ways to make money ...that's capacity building !
It is alignment. It is self love, it is live for the community and it is live for the ethnicity! It is a testament of those that love and believe in themselves!
And alignment has restored Igbo communities and still do Empty barrel

Episode22: Hello Nairalanders,
Please, I’ll keep this brief and straight to the point.
I need honest opinions and practical advice. Can someone realistically survive in Nigeria on a daily income of $10?. I work from home.
If no, please explain why.
If yes, I’d appreciate a clear strategy—how to manage it, possible business ideas, and how one could grow beyond that income level.
For context, I currently earn $10 daily online from my blog, and on some days $13.
If this income is not sustainable in the long run, I genuinely want to know so I can plan better and make informed decisions.
Constructive advice only, please.
Moderators, kindly assist with visibility. Thank you. 1)Open a bamboo account, invest one dollar daily ( make sure you listen to Warren Buffett, Charlie Bunger, Peter Lynch etc before starting your investment journey) 2)Don't invest in Nigerian stock( if your US stock gains $1 that's 1500, if you buy Nigerian stock and it gains 1 naira it's still 1 naira) 3)Give one dollar a day to charity |

Politics › Re: No Governor Has Control Over APC – Yilwatda by maivd: 9:53pm On Jan 07 |
9jatriot: Fubara thinks he is wise.Unstable elements like him should stay in their previous party. I am glad APC is beginning to come to their sense.
Fubara comes across as a treacherous, weak, and sycophantic individual. There’s just something about him that reeks of deceit. With Wike, for all his antics, you at least know where you stand.
Fubara, on the other hand, seems like a fickle-minded opportunist, willing to do anything to cling to power. He plays the role of a sycophant to get what he wants, only to turn his back once his goals are met.
During the campaign, he trailed Wike like a puppet, only to betray him shortly after assuming power. He went as far as demolishing the House of Assembly building in his lust for control and is even suspected of being involved in pipeline sabotage to maintain his grip on power. Such desperation disqualifies him from public office and the responsibility of leadership.
Reports suggest that, for the sake of peace, he was advised to abandon his second-term ambition—and he agreed. He was seen following Wike around during his ordeal, seemingly compliant. He didn’t have to agree; he could have made his case right then to continue his term, but he chose to accept the terms presented.
Yet, the moment he returned to office, he suddenly had the "brilliant" idea to join the APC—not because the president compelled him, but because he sees it as a springboard to regain power. Once again, he’s playing the fool, pretending loyalty to the APC until he secures what he wants.
Personally, I neither like nor trust individuals like him. He isn’t the first governor to turn against his former benefactor, but he’s the only one who makes such a spectacle of it. Even now, the governors of Kaduna and Kano have parted ways with their benefactors, yet they handle it without the same drama.
The APC needs to tread carefully with someone like Fubara. He isn’t joining the party out of a commitment to good governance or loyalty to the APC. If anything, he has proven himself untrustworthy and lacking in wisdom, both in his actions and his timing. They should learn from their experience with Obaseki. Once treacherous, always treacherous.
If I had to choose between Wike and Fubara, I’d trust Wike—flaws and all—any day. At least with Wike, you know what you’re getting. stop crying |

Politics › Re: Blind Girl I Adopted 14 Years Ago Is Now A Law Graduate – Oshiomhole by maivd: 3:51am On Jan 06 |
Kingzjayzee: Former Governor of Edo State and now senator representing Edo North, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, was received by a large crowd at the Upper Siluko Road of Benin-City when he visited the family of Joyce Imasuen, a blind girl, 21, whom he adopted 14 years ago (2011).
The girl is now a law graduate of the University of Benin with a Second Class Upper. At the girl’s residence, Oshiomhole’s presence drew residents in the neighbourhood who trooped out to welcome the former governor.
Oshiomhole said he adopted the girl, believing that she is not the architect of her misfortune and that she was pleasantly surprised when the girl chose to read law rather than other, less difficult courses of study.
Speaking, he said: “Rather than lamenting what you cannot change, you choose to demonstrate that with determination, you can still get to where you are going to get to.
“There are many people who are not challenged at all, and they cannot get a law degree; they go, and they fail. Imagine you are making a 2.1 with all the challenges. The sky is your starting point in life.
“My view now about you and people like this has radically changed from your example. If I were to go through that route again, there are a couple of things I would do differently, seeing that there is nothing other people can do that you haven’t shown that it can be done and even better.”
On her choice to read law, Oshiomhole said: “When you told me you were going to read law, I was like it is a very difficult one, why not political science or public administration or mass communication which I really think are relatively easier but you chose to read law and I am happy that, looking back, you were very sure of yourself and you knew you had to put everything into it. You are now a graduate of law.”
For her part, Imasuen said Oshiomhole has been like a father to her, seeing her through secondary school at Queen’s College, Lagos and university.
She went on: “He made sure that I was always comfortable, and then I got admission into the University of Benin in 2019 to study law.
“I told him and he got me a laptop to aid my learning and made sure that my years in UNIBEN were free of stress except the stress from the school and on January 31, 2025, I finished my programme and now my result is out and I am proud to say that I made a 2.1 and I am happy and thankful to God that He brought Senator Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
“It has been almost fourteen years since I have known him, and I am so happy.”
An elated Michael Imasuen, Joyce’s father, said: “What could have been a burden maybe through my earning as a teacher, he lifted the burden from me and the child never looked back to work hard to get the best from what he has been supporting her with and, with this one, I can tell the whole world that I am very grateful to the pillar of truth, that is Comrade Adams Oshiomhole”
Also on hand to receive Oshiomhole was the Executive Director, Network for the Advancement of People with Disabilities (NAPVID), Melody Omosah Esq, who said: “We owe all gratitude to you Comrade and what I often tell people is that the relationship you have with her is devoid of politics completely because each time I call to ask when last did she speak to you, she would also confirm the frequency of your conversation with her. Thank you very much.”
Joyce was adopted when she was nine years old by Oshiomhole, then as governor in 2011.

Dogalmighty17: How do you think Mc Oloumo made his money? Those agberos are working for the cronies of the governor of each state. That's how governors settle the men who worked and contributed money for their campaigns.
That money goes to private pockets. This is the formula Tinubu first introduced when Obasanjo froze the Lagos state government accounts. Tinubu had to find ways to generate funds. Having agberos collect daily tolls from vehicle operators was a huge success that every other governor in Lagos has maintained the same template.
Of course it has spread nationwide now. Same applies in Anambra |
