@Ladyfiona am grateful 2 God dat we still have people who r open 2 discussions n counter suggestions. Everytime points are raised, people raise sentiments. The question I keep asking is, where did we borrow our health system from. Its definitely d UK and USA. Pls take a tour of dis countries n see hw d doctors address demselves. Inside d clinic dey refer 2 demselves as Chris Morgan M.D (M.D means medical doctor). They reserve d acronym Dr for PhD holders. Hw will someone do 4yrs BSC, 2yrs Masters n 5yrs PhD b4 attaining Dr status n some does jus 6yrs MBBS (bachelor or medicine and bachelor of surgery) n wants 2 colonize d name Dr. I do not envy d fact dat my friends n brothers who did MBBS r doctors, am only bothered that we have taken mediocrity as a way of life.

Frustration indeed. Maybe if u countered with a superior argument, I would have understood. In d US n UK which we borrowed our civilization from. Hw are their doctors addressed. Hw do they write their names. It is only in Nigeria that d name is basterdized

I take the point of MD, as that is a doctorate level qualification,
however your justification for other medics is rubbish. "Doctor"
is not a professional title, it is an academic title. Thus medics
without a PhD or MD are lying to patients about their
qualifications. The length of medical training merely reflects
the fact that they have two bachelors degrees, they don't even
have a masters level education! Talk of "clinical context" is
merely perpetuating a falsehood. "Doctor" is not a protected
professional title, unlike "Biomedical Scientist" and
"Physiotherapist", which are protected and can only be used
by people with the appropriate qualifications and accreditation
by governing bodies. The BMA has no claim, professional or
otherwise, to the title of "Doctor", thus unless the person in
question has a doctoral level qualification, they are not entitled
to use that title. A "physician" is not someone who has
specialist training. They are often still in training for their RCGP
exams. So for the sake of argument, let's just say that you can
call yourself a "medic" or "pediatrician" or "gynaecologist" or
"neurologist", etc, but without doctoral qualifications you are
most certainly NOT a doctor and have NO LEGAL RIGHT to use
that nominal title in or out of a clinical situation. You don't go
to "doctor school", you go to MEDICAL SCHOOL!
