Politics / SHOCKING: Rotimi Amaechi Behind Kperogi's Attacks On Osinbajo by MANofMEN(m): 8:30pm On Apr 10, 2022
Although not many people take him serious but United States-based Nigerian professor, Farouk Kperogi has earned for himself a reputation of one with undisguised bile, not just for anything Buhari but also the nation, and he has added a few more enemies to his long list.

Recently, Kperogi has become a self-appointed enemy of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and he's relishing the appetite of his equally undiscerning and mischievous readers with fabricated falsehood.

Against all intents and logics, even when it has been disputed by people who should know, Kperogi kept alleging that Osinbajo, should he be trusted with power and Nigeria's president, will Christianize Nigeria.

Laughable as this sounds, it beats imagination that anyone would get drowned in Kperogi's narrative, with his unscholarly eavesdropping and beer parlour gists, and when he did at all, clinging only to hearsays.

However, against all his pretences and disguise, the hatchet writer has been unveiled to be doing the bidding of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi, who eyes the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, this newspaper can reliably gathered, is bankrolling Kperogi to advance vicious and damaging propaganda to tarnish the reputation of the Vice President with the intent to sow hatred against him from among the Northern population.

The plot, this newspaper learnt, was to twist the faith of Osinbajo, who is a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, and recent creation of the political directorate by the Church, to blackmail the Vice President.

Kperogi's paymaster, has for some time detailed a team to search out Prof Osinbajo to see the possibility of nailing him on corruption allegations, but having failed to lay hand on any of such, resolved that turning the Northern population against him would be fait accompli to make him unattractive to the Muslim voters.

Although he has not yet declare interest to run for the 2023 presidential election, notwithstanding, the Vice President has become a subject of bitter attack from contenders within the ruling party and beyond, especially from those that believe that his interest would pose a major threat to their chances should he throw in the hat to contest. And Kperogi has become a willing tool.

Political observers believe that the Osinbajo campaign team has to brace up for more attacks from the likes of Kperogi.

This, they opined will get messier and fierce as the chances of Osinbajo become brighter, so also will the desperation to rein him in and jerk him to surrender, regardless of how unfounded the allegations might be.

The Minister's handlers had narrowed down on Kperogi's choice for the hatchet job sensing that he would not be easily suspected, in view of his past attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari with whom he was similarly fixated in the past.

Politics / Govt Agencies Must Hold Citizens In High Esteem, Be Responsible To Them – Osinba by MANofMEN(m): 7:25am On Mar 15, 2022
*GOVT AGENCIES MUST HOLD CITIZENS IN HIGH ESTEEM, BE RESPONSIBLE TO THEM – OSINBAJO*

**VP receives WAEC delegation at Presidential Villa*

Beyond core regulatory roles, Government agencies must always show that they are responsible to the people that they serve and that they hold them in high esteem, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this on Monday when he received at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, a delegation of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in town for the Council's 70th Annual Meeting.

“It is very important that we show respect for our citizens and show that we are concerned about them, that we are not just a regulatory body that feels that its role is just to be a policeman, and all of that. I think we must also show that we are responsible for the people that we serve and that we hold them in high esteem,” the Vice President said.

For instance, Prof. Osinbajo highlighted and praised the prompt response of the examinations body to the issue of some candidates having difficulties regarding the National Identification Number (NIN), where the body responded that due to the challenges with the NIMC portal at the time, the affected candidates could still sit for the exams.

“These kinds of quick responses show respect for citizens,” the Vice President stated, adding that he is also personally happy that the Examinations Council is responsive and aligning with the digital technology age in different areas.

“Just looking at the press reports and what WAEC has done, it has shown that it is very responsive to the needs of society. I was particularly impressed by the new digital certification that was announced some time ago, that if one lost his/her WAEC certificate, you can apply for the digital copy, which means your records are never lost.

"There is no need for the long and hard process of seeking for a certified (physical) copy. I think this is true response to the times. That is very good,” he said.

The VP also congratulated WAEC for its achievement since it was established about 70 years ago.

While highlighting the important role of the Council in the nation’s educational development, Prof. Osinbajo said many Nigerians have benefitted from the WAEC certification over the years.

“It (WAEC certification) is almost like a birth certificate,” the VP stated, underscoring the significance of the Council’s certificate.

“Everyone who has watched WAEC progress over the years would agree that WAEC is a huge part of our history as a nation. WEAC certification has that importance and it has been like that for 70 years. So, I think it is worthy of celebration and commendation, WAEC has done so very well through the years.

"So, I congratulate you, the Nigerian team, and the WAEC Council, not just for being given the special privilege of hosting the 70th anniversary, but also because we are clearly the largest contributor and beneficiary and this has been so for 70 years.”

In her remarks, the leader of the Nigerian members of WAEC, who is also the Director, Senior Secondary Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, thanked the Federal Government of Nigeria “for the opportunity to host the 70th Annual Council Meeting, as well as the support to the Council over the years.”

She added that the Council is the highest decision-making body of WAEC with membership drawn from the 5 member countries – Nigeria, the Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Ghana.

She also disclosed that the Annual Council Meeting is used to deliberate on providing qualitative and educational assessment, encouraging academic and moral excellence, promoting human resource development, and promoting international cooperation among the five-member countries.

The safe return of Nigerians displaced by the insurgency in the North-East from Cameroon, Niger and Chad will be treated as an emergency assignment, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this on Monday at the first meeting of the Presidential Committee on the Repatriation, Returns and Resettlement of Displaced Persons in the North-East. The Committee was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari on February 2, 2022 with the VP as Chairman and Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State as Vice Chairman.

The meeting presided over by the Vice President had in attendance, Prof. Babagana Zulum; his counterpart from Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya; the deputy governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Idi Gubana; and Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, members of the Federal Executive Council, among others.

On the task ahead of the Committee, Prof. Osinbajo urged members to carry out the assignment with every sense of urgency, noting that the President wanted a committee with wide representation in order to be inclusive, and to be able to deliver, taking to account all the issues.

The Vice President then urged that the committee deals “with this task as an emergency. We simply don’t have the time to get into too much bureaucracy so that we are able to deliver on all of the issues.”

Prof. Osinbajo noted that while the committee will work with existing frameworks in the management of the issues, ongoing efforts to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their communities must continue unhindered.

He said: “we should immediately do whatever it takes to commence the process of repatriating our people back home. Already there are several initiatives. We need to deal with all of that working as quickly as possible to achieve the terms of reference and of course, ensure that all other initiatives continue to run in the way that they are designed to run.”

The Vice President then assured that governments at both Federal and State levels will work in conjunction with other stakeholders to ensure a hitch-free repatriation exercise, noting that “there is no reason why we cannot return our citizens to their homes.”

The Vice President then directed the secretariat to commence work on constituting three technical working groups on the work plan, repatriation exercise and rehabilitation of repentant Boko Haram combatants.

The committee will meet later to assess progress.

Other members of the committee present at today’s meeting included the Ministers of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq; Defence, Maj. With the number of security challenges facing the country in recent times, the collaboration between traditional rulers across the country and Government at all levels is even more critical now so as to improve security nationwide.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, stated this on Saturday in Delta State, where he paid courtesy calls to the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Ekemejewan Sideso; and the Olu of Warri, HRM Ògíamẹ̀ Atúwàtse III.

At both palaces, the VP, who accompanied by the Delta State Deputy Governor, Kingsley Otuaro, and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Olumide Akpata, was welcomed with drumming, dancing and singing with much fanfare and in a festive atmosphere.

Before stopping at the palaces, the Vice President attended the Thanksgiving Service, in Effurun, Delta State, in honour of the late elder statesman and member of the Second Republic House of Representatives, Chief Patrick Emurode Sito Ideh, who passed at 95.

Speaking at the Palace of the Olu of Warri, the VP stated that, “the role of the traditional council, the traditional rulership in our country is absolutely critical to security; and I am happy that this is something that you also not only recognize, but accept as a major function of the traditional rulership.”

Aside from the major roles of the security agencies in ensuring security, the Vice President observed that traditional rulers in the country also have vital roles to play in their respective communities because of their moral authority.

“We recognize that the traditional rulership of our country holds a moral place in the live and esteem of our people, and it is that moral place that we, very frequently, have to call upon, in order to mediate some of the conflicts that give rise to the security challenges that we have,” he said.

The VP further highlighted the critical role traditional rulers in the State played in resolving disputes in oil-producing communities.

“For example, the deputy governor and I have worked extensively in some of the conflicts in oil-producing communities that had led to a decline in oil production, and we did so by going round to speak to various communities.…we were able to achieve results just because the traditional rulership took it upon themselves to be front and centre of mediating these disputes.

“I think that the times that we are in also calls for that kind of intervention; and I will respectfully urge you to take this on, as a major task, because, just as have been mentioned, our country depends a great deal on oil production,” he said.

While emphasizing the Buhari administration’s three-pronged focus on improving the economy, security and the fight against corruption, Prof. Osinbajo noted that “we also recognize, especially with security, that very few administrations, have been confronted with the plethora of security challenges that we have been confronted with.

“Frankly, when you look at the sheer number and range of those security challenges, it is evident that that it is necessary to have a leader such as President Buhari to be able to even take on those challenges.”

While again congratulating the Olu of Warri on his ascension, the Vice President stated that “the ascension to the throne of your fathers would be for the benefit of the community and nation."

“I want to say that the reason, first, is because you bring to this stool, not just the energy and farsightedness; but more importantly, your antecedents in business, in innovation and entrepreneurship. So, many are looking to see how this will benefit not just Warri but also our nation.”

Prof. Osinbajo thanked the monarch for the very warm reception, and also restated Federal Government's support for initiatives to improve lives of Nigerians, especially youths.

“We, the Federal Government, have several initiatives, especially initiatives for entrepreneurship and innovation for young people; not just in technology, but also in your area of oil and gas. So, there is a lot I hope that we will be able to do together,” he said.

In the same vein, at the Ovie of Uvwie’s palace, the VP acknowledged the role of traditional rulers, including the monarch, in keeping law and order and maintaining peace in all their communities.

“This was a place that was known for a bit more turbulence than many other parts of the state. But today, we see that it is a very peaceful community; a peaceful kingdom and it is all on the account of the fact that there is a moral orbit that only the traditional rulership can operate in; and even our laws; fidelity to our laws is really first and foremost, based on the foundation of people’s respect for law and order as proffered by the traditional rulership.

“Going by the track record that we see even in this kingdom, it is very evident that your role has been instrumental in keeping the peace here. We are extremely proud of the work that you are doing. I think it is a good example and a good way by which we can continue to propagate the importance of traditional rulers in governance in Nigeria.”

In his opening remarks, the Olu of Warri described the Vice President's visit as a 'homecoming,’ and thanked the VP for his good works as President Buhari's deputy and for 'putting Nigeria first.'

"We thank you for the good work that you have been doing; supporting the President and putting Nigeria first. Please be assured that our prayers are continually with you and with the nation in general.

"It is our prayer that the Lord who brought you here safely will take you back safely and in all your endeavours going forward as your administration finishes in the next one year. You will finish strong, you will finish well; and by the Grace of God, I am sure we will be seeing more of you in different capacities, and we look forward to that."

Similarly, the Olu of Warri acknowledged that traditional rulers should, indeed, be bridge-builders between government and the people.

He said, “We want to once again, present ourselves as the number one partners with the federal and state governments… we are looking forward to having discussions with the Federal Government and governments in general so that we are able to think outside the box to maximize the best for our people going forward.

“We, as a people, have always been law-abiding; we always work with security agencies and we will continue to do so. Please, let the President know that he can call on us and he has our full cooperation.”

In his remarks, Ovie of Uvwie thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the Vice President for the respect they show to the country’s traditional institutions.

“That is the respect you have for traditional rulers; you have always been there for us. I am the Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Summit in Abuja. The last summit we held, you represented the President; you physically came and stayed with us throughout the summit. Not only that, you gave us a lot of advice during that summit; in my community, we are working on that,” he said.

Earlier at the thanksgiving service in honour of late elder statesman, Chief Ideh, the Vice President said Delta State and Nigeria has lost a true leader who embodied a “rich example of service, fidelity to truth and justice, high patriotism and a strong social conscience.”

The Vice President noted that the late Chief Ideh, “despite being well rooted in his community, remained very vested in the trajectory of his country and took on the mantle of elder statesman with the same dignity and grace that had defined his entire life.”

According to the VP, “If there is a single word that defines this great son of Urhobo Kingdom and Nigeria, it is, in my view, service. His life, laden with illustrious accomplishments of the highest order, was an elegant testament of his devotion to service. He earned his achievements through an unflagging diligence.”

“Chief Ideh’s dedication to his people meant that, for him, personal achievements were not enough. He had the skills, tenacity and the drive to have committed himself purely to his own enrichment and success. But he had the social conscience and moral intelligence that instead committed him to a much grander cause – that of the people of the Midwest Region and Nigeria at large."

Extending the warm felicitations of President Buhari to the family of the late Ideh and people of the State, Prof. Osinbajo said the President and himself “witnessed first-hand the breadth of the esteem in which he was held when he organized townhall meetings for us during the campaigns.”

At the time of his passing, Chief Ideh was the oldest legal practitioner on the Supreme Court roll call in the South-South region.

Commiserating with the family of the late Chief Ideh and the people of the State, the Vice President noted that the late elder statesman lived a life truly well spent.

APC Convention: How Amaechi Drafted Abdullahi Into Race

Daily Times
28th February 2022

Facts have emerged on how the Minister of Transport, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi drafted the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national reconciliation committee, Senator Adamu Abdullahi into the party’s national chairmanship race.

Adamu had on January 31 submitted his committee’s report to the APC leadership. However a few days later, in a surprise move, he announced his intention to vie for the office of the APC national chairman.

Checks revealed that the minister, who is believed to be nursing a presidential ambition, reportedly approached the former governor with a proposal to contest for the position of the APC national chairman.

Sources close to Senator Abdullahi disclosed that he pointedly rejected the proposal on the ground that it was morally wrong for a man who was appointed to reconcile a party to turn around to seek to become it’s national chairman.

He was also said to have complained that he didn’t have the resources to pull a campaign through, but that Minister Amaechi provided the funds through a ranking senator from Borno State penciled down to head the minister’s presidential campaign whenever it kicks off

The minister was also said to have assured Senator Abdullahi that he would use his contacts in the Presidential Villa to ensure that he gets the support of President Buhari.

In return. Abdullahi was to ensure that he used his position as national chairman to ensure Amaechi got the APC presidential ticket later in the year.

“Adamu Abdullahi pointedly told Amaechi that even if he had the energy to contest, he lacked the financial muscle considering that he is heavily indebted to some banks,” offered a source close to the ministry.

The minister, in tow with Senator Ali Ndume, who has been reportedly penciled down to head the Amaechi campaign organization.

Worried by the unending crisis in APC state chapters, the party had in February 2020 appointed a former interim national chairman Chief Bisi Akande to head a 12-man reconciliation committee. Interestingly, the crisis heightened.

Following the sack of the Adams Oshiomhole-led party executive, the caretaker committee in mid-September 2021 appointed a nine-man reconciliation committee to mend the cracks. APC elders, who held that the previous panel failed because of Akande’s “weakness”. They suggested “a stronger personality” like Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

“The stronger personality like Senator Abdullahi has now turned out to be an albatross. The consensus kite flown by the Amaechi camp has set the party’s wheel of progress back. APC governors are meeting today to see how they can salvage the situation. We’re going to come out of this confusion stronger,” a party chieftain declared.

Politics / Reform Work In Progress, Expect Real Justice System Changes, Osinbajo Assures by MANofMEN(m): 10:38pm On Feb 19, 2022
STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

REFORM WORK IN PROGRESS, EXPECT REAL JUSTICE SYSTEM CHANGES, OSINBAJO ASSURES

* Service conditions of judges must be good enough, befitting-VP

*Calls for imposition of severe costs for delays in administration of justice

Challenges affecting the administration of justice in Nigeria are being addressed and "there is much hope for the positive reform of the system as more result-oriented work is going on and some real changes expected", according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this Friday evening at the 20th year memorial anniversary symposium in honour of a resoundingly successful legal practitioner, Mr. Bankole Olumide Aluko, SAN, themed, "Administration of Justice: the Ideal Standard, the Nigeria Reality and Our Potential."

The Vice President who spoke on the issues of judicial appointments, delays in the dispensation of justice, democracy, and digitization in the judiciary, among others, noted that "the administration of justice system is the foundation of law and order, commerce and democracy."

On the delay of justice delivery, the VP submitted that addressing delays should "involve imposing sanctions by a more intentional regime for the award of adverse and wasted costs."

"The court is a taxpayer-funded public resource. The wasting or abuse of its finite time and resources without strict consequence will eventually discredit the system.

"Adverse costs are paid to the successful party in a civil case and wasted costs are directed against legal practitioners for poor professional standards in the conduct of a case.

"Severe costs should attend adjournments, there is no greater waste of taxpayer’s funds than for a scheduled case to have to be adjourned. It is only heavy costs that will discourage this malfeasance."

He noted that "certainty or predictability of judicial outcomes is one of the major strengths of the common law."

Regarding the impact of the law on democracy, Prof. Osinbajo noted that "the democratic rights of the people and their confidence in the notion of a government of the people, by the people, for the people, suffers when the system of electoral justice fails to see itself as a handmaid of the democratic process."

Citing the decision of the Supreme Court in the 2019 elections in Zamfara State to buttress his point, the VP noted that "to make sense, judicial decisions and reasoning must in most cases meet the common notions of fairness and justice.

"The system of justice must recognize the larger principles that it serves. In judicial interpretation, the spirit is as important as the letter of the law. Otherwise, judicial decisions become technistic applications far removed from common sense.

"The notions of justice that would meet public expectations of fairness and equity are those that promote substance over form. The observance of technicality over merit will always alienate the system of justice from the people it is meant to serve."

On the expectations from judicial officers, Prof. Osinbajo said "while we ask for the best from our judicial officers, we must equally ensure that the conditions under which they operate are not only befitting but are good enough to attract the best of minds in our profession."

In addition, the Vice President said the institution and infrastructure remain key to reforming the system, stating that "the judge is, of course, central to how our system of justice works. It is the court, not counsel that must determine the pace of cases."

On the process for judicial appointments, the VP stated that the robustness and transparency of the processes in other jurisdictions "provide comfort to the candidates of the fairness of the selection process; and enable the public to have front-row seat in some of these processes", arguing that such a process be replicated in Nigeria.

The VP extolled the late Aluko's mastery of his craft, highlighted his varied abilities, and praised his contributions to the legal profession in the country. He described him as a truly iconic figure and recalled that "he was always my preferred lawyer."

Politics / Osinbajo & Baba Buhari, We Have Come With The Song Again" - Kannywood Stars by MANofMEN(m): 12:39pm On Feb 17, 2022
STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

"OSINBAJO & BABA BUHARI, WE HAVE COME WITH THE SONG AGAIN" - KANNYWOOD STARS

*VP receives delegation at Presidential Villa, thankful to God for an honest President, fantastic country

*Adds: Nigeria’s most important resource is human capital

They sang indoors and outdoors at the Presidential Villa yesterday evening but the tune and lyrics were the same: President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration has done well and his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is the President's 'personal person.'

A large delegation made up of notable artists, musicians, entertainers and creatives from the Northern parts of the country paid a courtesy call on the Vice President with commendation for the administration while also tabling their requests to further spur their industry.

While receiving the delegation, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, stated that a country’s most important resource are its human resources, and Nigeria must place a premium on this because its talents are the country’s biggest export and significant investment.

Prof. Osinbajo said this on Wednesday evening when he received at the Presidential Villa, the Kannywood delegation.

They came under the auspices of a group named 13 x 13 Awareness Group led by Kannywood personalities, such as Alhaji Dauda Adamu Rarara, its President and Yakubu Mohammed, spokesperson, among several others.

During the meeting, the Kannywood group delivered a special song filled with commendation for the work and accomplishments, while also chorusing that Prof. Osinbajo is together with "Baba Buhari." The song was led by Yusuf Haruna, a.k.a Baban Chinedu, a Muslim actor who features as an Igbo character in films.

The lyrics of the song sang in Hausa is translated into English thus:

Verse: "Youths, everyone, come out, from the cities to the rural areas, let’s do Osinbajo and Baba Buhari.

In the past, we brought you this song, now we have come with the song again, Osinbajo and Baba Buahri. Buhari is fixing the country for us”

Chorus: Osinbajo of Baba Buhari.

The Kannywood actors praised the leadership, dedication and wisdom of the Buhari-Osinbajo administration.

Emphasising on the need to pay more attention to the country’s human resources, the Vice President noted that Nigeria’s creative sector is one of the most vibrant anywhere, observing that Nigeria’s impressive array of talents across the creative sector needs to be showcased more to the world.

Pointing out some of members of the delegation whose works he had encountered such as veteran Kannywood actor, Rabiu Rikadawa, among others, in the room yesterday, the VP said, “I think one of the best things that our country has is talent, very solid talent. Sometimes we make the mistake of not exhibiting our talents enough, not showing off our talents enough and it’s a big mistake because this is our best resource.”

He stated that some countries do not have any mineral resource, but their best export is their human resource, adding that the creative sector is a very powerful tool of influence in any nation, and can be used effectively to advance social causes and nation building.

According to the VP “when you look at our country, here is a fantastic country, with talents from every corner, but it can also be a place where people are just fighting, quarrelling over nothing; whereas we can bring, with the power of what you are doing, we can bring people together, we can bring all our people together.

"If you look at sports, if you look at entertainment, they can bring people together. And we must use it to bring our people together, we must use this talent to bring our people together.”

“I like the film industry. I enjoy comedy, I enjoy songs in whatever language, and I’m sure there are so many who are interested. Even sometimes looking at a video when you don’t even speak the language, you look at a video you’ll laugh because you know that it is funny.

“So, sometimes it does not matter the language in which it is delivered, people will laugh so long as it is funny. I think that you have a very strong weapon - the creative industry, has a very strong weapon - drama, music, comedy, these are very powerful and you can use them to do so many things and we must use it to do so many things.

“The usefulness of your talent is not just for a small set of people, but it is for everybody because your contributions are very important,” the VP stated.

He expressed happiness “to see all of us who are here, people who are using their talents to invest as they can.”

The VP then discussed how the entertainment industry can be supported to do even more. His words: "we can do more, if we are supported, supported by government, supported by the private sector, but the question is how, how are we going to do that? I want us to take this meeting seriously so that we can have a meeting to advance what we have been talking about.”

Despite the challenges of insecurity, insurgency, the Vice President stated that Government would continue to explore ways to support the creative sector and improve other aspects of national life.

He stated how despite two recessions and the socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has shown firm resolve and commitment towards improving the economy and welfare of all Nigerians.

Prof. Osinbajo noted that the Buhari administration will continue to ramp up efforts to improve security across the country.

“We are still fighting insurgency, Boko Haram insurgency and ISWAP, then we have banditry here and there in the North-West and things like that. All of these have occurrences in the life of a nation. Every nation runs into trouble, but it is the government at the time that must take the responsibility."

He also emphasized on the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to better the lot of the country, noting that the President is a honest leader.

“We are very fortunate that God gave us a leader like President Muhammadu Buhari at the time we are facing. And the reason why I say so is because, you see, if we don’t have a steady hand, matured person who understands a lot of things and who is respected by the people, there will be more chaos and we won’t even know where this will end.

“We must continue to thank God that at least we have a leader who is considered honest all across the country, everybody knows that he’s a man of his words, no matter where you are in the country, you know that he’s a man of his words, you know he’s honest and you know he is not stealing the resources of the country.”

The leader of the delegation Alhaji Rarara recalled how some of the delegation members including himself, have been actively supporting the Buhari administration. He also praised the government for many of its laudable programmes that has touched so many people but added that more needed to be done.

"We know both yourself and the President are committed to the people and are alligned. That is why we are still with you."

In his remarks on behalf of the group, Yakubu Mohammed, the spokesperson also added that the group has been supporting the Buhari administration and will continue to support the government. He solicited for government assistance in helping to address some of the challenges the industry is facing especially in the area of financial enablement.

He said the activities of the group are funded solely by its members, but lamented that their industry is lagging behind. In specific response, the VP said he is looking forward to working with the group to resolve the challenges of the industry.

*APC Chairmanship: The Al-Makura We Know, The Al-Makura We Trust!*

_By Segun Tomori_

As the race for the National Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) hots up, intense horse-trading is taking the centre stage as camps of various contestants intensify efforts to out-wit each other. So far, permutations have zeroed in on Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura as the clear front-runner ahead on the February 26, National Convention of the ruling party. If you are blessed with the hindsight of the clairvoyant, you won't see otherwise.

Not many know why Al-Makura towers above others. Apart from over 4 decades cognate experience navigating the political landscape, first as Youth Leader of the Defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in 1980 to being a member of the Constituent Assembly, 1988- 89, to being the State Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC) of Old Plateau State in 1992, to leading a largely unknown Congress for Progressive to Change (CPC) to victory in Nasarawa State, before playing a pivotal role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the only CPC Governor to consummate the merger.

Al-Makura has shown an impeccable understanding of political nuances, displaying an uncanny ability to manage diverse tendencies whilst also showcasing the requisite grassroots appeal and political sagacity that ensured he displaced the entrenched Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State to clinch the gubernatorial seat. Not a few Stakeholders have seen this attributes. That is why the party is gravitating towards him.

Of particular significance is the camaraderie between Al-Makura and incumbent Governor, Abdullahi Sule. Our political space is often awash with the jostle for supremacy or needless power tussle between incumbents and their predecessors, but not Al-Makura and Gov. Sule. It is a known fact that the Nasarawa Governor is the Chief Campaigner for the candidacy of Al-Makura as National Chairman and since his ascendancy, his relationship with his predecessor has been most cordial. Not a few political analysts see this as a plus for Al-Makura. His ability to have a formidable home-base, solidly behind him is cited as an advantage.

Moving close to Al-Makura, what strikes one is his simplicity and accommodating nature. The pan-Nigerian outlook of his close advisors and key members of his campaign Council shows someone who is comfortable with everyone, irrespective of tribe or religion. Apart from that, Al-Makura has a knack for innovation and creative ideas. I have seen at close range how he becomes enamoured by talents and brilliance. Therefore, with Al-Makura as the party helmsman, you can be rest assured he will surround himself with egg-heads that will assist him in "Sustaining the Gains, and Securing the Future".

Issues around Youth and Women inclusion have mostly dominated discourse within the APC but Al-Makura has a panacea for this. Just yesterday when playing host to a Youth group that visited his campaign office, Al-Makura promised to champion, if elected, the allocation of 50% of appointive positions to Youth and Women by elected officials under the platform of the party. Alongside this, establishing a reward system mechanism for party faithful that work hard for the party victory at all levels is at the heart of the Al-Makura agenda.

Considering how the APC was formed, analysts sometimes posit it is a conglomeration of strange bedfellows, but I'd rather say it is a party of diverse tendencies and interests - this is not to be unexpected for a ruling party with tentacles across the length and breadth of the country. Managing such diversity require a calm temperament, a man inbued with requisite diplomacy, administrative acumen and inter-personal skills, this is where Al-Makura trumps all, and that is why we trust him!

As the days to the National Convention inches closer, with days turning to hours, we have to put our best foot forward to sustain the legacy of President Muhammadu Buhari, beyond 2023. We need to elect a foundation member of the APC, who understands the dynamics behind the party formation, and is able to manage the diverse interests and unify the party.

We recommend Sen. Tanko Al-Makura to you - APC stakeholders, party delegates and chieftains. Let's Sustain the gains, made so far, and Secure the future of progressive governance. Together, we can!

*UNODC Representative In Nigeria Visits Youth Minister, Canvasses Concerted Action On Drug Abuse*

* _Ministry, NYSC, UNODC to partner for sustainable action plan_

Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Oliver Stolpe on Wednesday visited the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare to bolster partnership on drug abuse prevention and control.

Stolpe in his remarks stated that the visit is a follow up to the launch last December of the National Drug Control Masterplan by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

He emphasised that the UNODC was particularly captivated by the idea of deploying National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in sensitizing youth on drug control and prevention as canvassed by the Minister at the NDLEA event, hence the need explore areas of partnership with the Ministry and NYSC, to bring it to fruition.

The UNODC representative informed the Minister of the forthcoming visit of the Executive Director, UNODC and UN Under Secretary-General, Ghada Fathi Waly in March, emphasising the need for the Youth Minister to have an interactive session with the diplomat to further consolidate efforts to mitigate drug abuse among Nigerian Youth.

Dare in his response thanked the UNODC official for keeping to his words, and visiting the Ministry as promised.

"Your visit demonstrates your commitment to drug abuse reduction, it also speaks to your understanding of the damage and destruction that addiction to drugs does to our Youth population. The work the UNODC is doing in this direction, as partners with various agencies in our country, and also bringing together global action in this direction is quite commendable," the Minister asserted.

Speaking further, the Minister affirmed the need to provide alternatives for the youth addicted to drugs, who got hooked on the menace as a result of depression or poverty.

"We must provide alternatives. We have a government that has opened the pathway for our youth in entrepreneurship and digital skills training. The challenge is to ratchet up the numbers to ensure the onboarding of more youth, but the capacity to do more is limited by scare resources, which we must devise innovative means to overcome," he added.

On partnership with NYSC, the Minister stated that the three weeks orientation period for corp members, their Community Development Service (CDS) provides the avenue to develop programmes on drug abuse control and prevention, whilst informing his guests that the NYSC radio that will be launched in a few weeks will be a veritable tool for mobilisation and sensitization. The Minister promised to liaise with the NYSC Director General to conclude arrangements for partnership with the agency.

The Projects Officer, UNODC, Dr Akan Ibanga is his remarks advocated collaboration with the private sector to make the fight against drug abuse far-reaching, whilst restating the need to make concerted efforts in combating the menace sustainable.

Politics / 2023 Politics And The Emergence Of The Tribe By Mohammed Abdullahi by MANofMEN(m): 9:04am On Feb 06, 2022
*2023 Politics And The Emergence Of The Tribe*

By Mohammed Abdullahi.

On the 13 February, 2019, just ten days before the Presidential ballots in Nigeria, Alexis Akwagyram wrote an article published by Reuters in which he discussed the seemingly absurd situation of "young voters (voting for) old candidates." In the article in question, Akwagyram concluded that the 2019 elections offered "little hope of change for young people."

Like Akwagyram, many writers have romanticized and fantasized about the possibility of converting the huge youth population in Nigeria to some realistic political advantage. Often, you hear politicians and analysts, especially when they want to 'ginger' young voters, painting a picture of how youth can easily take over the leadership of Nigeria if they could mobilize and form a voting bloc in support of their preferred candidates.

Indeed, Nigerian youth have the advantage of number when it comes to elections. More than half of the registered voters are still under the age of 35, and this explains why many look towards the youth to play a more deliberate and enduring role in the country's leadership recruitment process.

However, you only need to have a glance at the pre-election debates and conversations across social media platforms, where the youth to dominate, to appreciate how badly the political socialization of this critical segment of our population has been contaminated. Having been born into an independent Nigeria, you will expect that any citizen of this country who is still under the age of 50 should not suffer the disease of ethnic politics and tribal bigotry that afflict many of our older compatriots. But politicians, being master hypnotists, have render our youth unthinking and make them ask the wrong questions of those who seek the mandate to determine how good or bad their lives would be.

This is why, without the necessary clairvoyance to interrogate the political leadership and choose the right option, those of us who wear the 'youth' badge without shaking off the prejudice and sentiments that have constantly becloud our sense of judgement at every election season would only continue to bemoan our faith as choristers singing in praise of politicians who exploit our ignorance.

It's to avoid this terrible faith as we approach another election that we must reexamine ourselves and like Chester, the protagonist in Buchi Emecheta's book, The New Tribe, begin a search for our true identity.

That search already begun in Kano on January 15, 2022, a day Nigerians from all parts of the country converged and agreed to be the new tribe that places devotion to Nigeria above any other primordial sentiments.

The true identity of new tribe of Nigerians, which seek to institute excellence in leadership, is that of those who open their minds and rise above the artificial differences promoted by individuals who only seek to exploit the faultlines in our relationship as citizens of Nigeria.

As new tribe, our true identity is built around the mission we've chosen to embarked on, which is to assess those who seek the leadership of our country in order to determine the best suited solely in terms of competence and vision, patriotism and character. Therefore, if your political decision as a voter has ever been about the ethnicity or faith of a candidate; we invite you to join us and embrace a new identity as a new tribe of citizens who prioritize fairness, integrity and, above all, absolute love for our country.

DEMOCRATIC ELECTION ONLY ACCEPTABLE WAY TO CHANGE GOVERNMENT, OSINBAJO SAYS AFTER ECOWAS SUMMIT IN GHANA

*VP back in Abuja after one day trip to Accra

As far as ECOWAS is concerned, there is only one way of changing government in the region, acceptable to all of the protocols, to even the political rights of the people and that is by a democratically elected government.

This assertion was affirmed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, after attending the ECOWAS Extraordinary Summit on the political situations in Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea in Accra today.

Prof. Osinbajo who represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the Summit was accosted by reporters (at the end of the meeting) who wanted to know how the summit of the leaders fared.

Responding, the VP said "I think it has been fruitful, the Heads of State again reiterated the firm position that had been taken earlier that there is absolutely no excuse for a change of government by coup d’etat.

“So, what happened in Burkina Faso was considered and has been condemned by all of the heads of state and we do not think there is any excuse for it whatsoever.

"But at the moment, of course, engagement is going on with the military junta and also we condemned the attempted coup in Guinea-Bissau and congratulated President Embalo and the people of Guinea-Bissau for resisting that unconstitutional attempt to change the government.

"All in all it has been fruitful and we are very hopeful that lessons had been learnt and we will not see a repeat of this.

"What about Mali?" he was asked.

"We are expecting that the Malian authorities would respond to ECOWAS imposed sanctions as you know and we expect that at some point, the Malian authorities themselves would begin to speed up the process of transition. We expect that they would do so. We are looking forward to that engagement."

The Vice President has since returned to Abuja this evening, from Accra.

A frontline aspirant for the National Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mallam Saliu Mustapha has
urged the newly inaugurated chairmen of state chapters of the party to be accommodating and magnanimous in victory.

He said this in a statement issued on his behalf by his media aide Dapo Okubanjo in the aftermath of the inauguration of the State Executive Committees (SECs) in Abuja.

"It is a good thing to see that the path to our National Convention on February 26 has been further brightened with the inauguration of new chairmen at state level by the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of our party.

"So while I'm congratulating the new SECs especially the chairmen,I also believe it's the best time to appeal to all party members to consider the group interest in line with our party's reconcilation move and rally behind them.

"It would also be good for the new party leaders at the state to extend a hand of fellowship to all aggrieved party members,"the statement added.

Mustapha who is the Turaki of ilorin also urged the new state excos to brace up for the battle ahead.

He said: "Now that the ceremony in Abuja is over, our state executive members have to now be focused on the big task ahead.

"We have elections coming up in almost exactly 12 months time so it is high time we began to close ranks to confront the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and their antics.

"I'm pledging that If elected as the party's National Chairman, I will do all that is necessary to make your jobs easier ahead of the 2023 elections.

"You won't be left to carry the burden alone with me in the saddle and this is a promise that I will keep especially with my experience in party administration.

Mustapha also urged all APC members to cooperate with the new chairmen to enable them succeed.

*APC National Convention: North-Central Big-wigs Endorse Sen Tanko Al-Makura For APC National Chairman.*

North-Central APC Chieftains under the auspices of the North Central Progressives Alliance (NCPA) has endorsed the candidature of Sen Umaru Tanko Al-Makura for APC National Chairman in the forthcoming National Convention.

The Senator representing Nassarawa South in the National Assembly and immediate past Governor of Nassarawa State, is a frontrunner for the National Chairmanship of the ruling party.

The endorsement contained in a communique issued at the end of the 1-Day National Conference of the North Central Progressives Alliance (NCPA) on Tuesday, was made available to newsmen in Lokoja.

The communique was signed by Rt Hon. Clarence Olafemi former Governor and Speaker, Kogi State, the former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Silas Agara and the former Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Barr Adamu Usman.

The group noted that with Al-Makura's past experiences in party administration, impeccable administrative credentials, astute political pedigree and a unifier of many years standing, he is the right man, and NCPA is supporting him as the next National Chairman of the APC.

“The North Central Progressives Alliance therefore, implored other aspirants in the zone and APC stakeholders across the zone to rally support for Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in the spirit of oneness, brotherhood and the progress of North Central.

“The group commends President Muhammadu Buhari who is also the leader of the party-APC that despite daunting security challenges, his unrelenting effort in holding the country together and facilitating harmonious relationships within our party – APC is noteworthy.

The group stressed that the zone has been terribly invaded by unknown gunmen, and suffered political marginalization since the inception of the 4th Republic.

The group therefore resolved that there is the need to come together as one people to form a formidable team that can continue to rise and speak for the interests of the good people of the North Central Zone.

The group also unanimously resolved that Nigerian government and the law enforcement agencies should as a matter of urgency take the security of North Central States and FCT with utmost importance.

“Considering the contributions of the North Central to the fortunes of APC right from inception, NCPA strongly deem it right for the position of the National Chairman of the party to be exclusively zoned to North Central.

“Since two major national positions of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that of the Senate President are currently in North West and North East respectively, NCPA has no option than to agree with majority of North Central party faithful, gladiators and political leaders insistence on the zoning of the National Chairmanship position of the party to the North Central zone,” the statement added.

While addressing the concerns around the challenges in the country, Prof Osinbajo highlighted the role of civic and social leadership in also tackling the issues. STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

WE WILL DEFEAT EVIL FORCES CONTESTING THE SOUL OF NIGERIA SAYS OSINBAJO AT AHMADU BELLO LECTURE IN KANO

*Describes Sardauna as a servant leader

*How traditional institutions can promote peace, security & unity in Nigeria

*VP pays condolence visits to families of late Dr Tofa, Sheikh Bamba, Alhaji Naif

Even though "the soul of the North, and of Nigeria by extension, is being contested by some of the most destructive and evil forces in contemporary history," the Buhari Administration is firmly resolved to resist and defeat them, says Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, as Special Guest of Honour at the 8th Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation Memorial Lecture on Tuesday in Kano.

Prof. Osinbajo did not mince words, asserting that "it is a fight we are determined to win. And we know that by the grace of God, all of these evil forces will be completely exterminated."

Emphasizing the rationale for a tough, collaborative resistance, the VP submitted that without it "neither the glorious legacies of the past nor the future our children will inherit, is immune to the unchecked onslaught."

It is for this reason, he explained, that the President "on numerous occasions reiterated the view that our peace and security architecture must recognize that traditional institutions are our first line of defence against the forces of anarchy."

He further noted that this explains why the Federal Government has deepened its partnership with traditional institutions on several fronts, adding that "given their familiarity with the local environment, traditional institutions are integral to our nationwide programme of community policing and can deliver valuable intelligence to State authorities."

Continuing the VP said, "many communities, the military and law enforcement agencies are partnering with local age-grade groups, hunters, and various associations under the sanction of the traditional leadership."

On its part, he assured that "the Federal Government has remained resolute in the fight against terrorists and insurgents. Recent efforts have focused on deploying technology for surveillance, intelligence gathering and attack.

"We will also continue to encourage collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Justice, their State counterparts, and law enforcement, to ensure that those who have been apprehended for terrorism and violent crimes are effectively prosecuted."

Prof. Osinbajo then underscored the influential role of traditional institutions and leaders as bridge-builders in communities in order to effectively tackle security challenges and promote peace and unity, at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation lecture on Leadership and Good Governance which was titled “Reviving the Northern Traditional Institutions: Imperative for Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria.”

While in Kano, the Vice President, who received a rousing reception and cheers from the people of the State at several points on the road including atop bridges and at every street stop, also paid condolence visits to the families of the former presidential candidate, late Dr. Bashir Tofa, renowned Islamic scholar, late Sheikh Ahmad Bamba of BUK and community leader, the late Alhaji Hassan Naif.

*TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS COMPLEMENT DEMOCRACY*
But earlier while addressing the theme of the lecture, the VP noted that traditional institutions complement democracy in building a more inclusive and peaceful society, even as he noted that “the extensive influence within the existing Northern traditional leadership is urgently needed today more than ever.”

“In today’s world, the continued existence of these traditional institutions and communal sensibilities, side by side with the machinery of our modern democracy, gives us an advantage that we must invoke. The moral and legal frameworks of this entrenched structural duality allow us to be able to tackle problems, like insecurity, holistically,” he added.

Prof. Osinbajo highlighted examples from the Emirate system of Northern Nigeria, which he described as “a well-structured institution with a network of community leaders who helped sustain peace and security throughout their domains.”

*PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN GOVERNMENTS & TRADITIONAL RULERS*
Explaining further the importance of partnership between Government at the Federal and State levels and traditional rulers, the VP disclosed that traditional institutions have also been a key part of the conception and execution of the Administration’s initiatives such as the Social Investment Programmes, and the National Livestock Transformation Plan.

He added that the partnership was also crucial in the implementation of the At-Risk Children Programme (ARC-P) – an initiative that addresses vulnerable children who lack social protection and basic formal education.

Highlighting the strength in unity despite Nigeria’s diversity, the Vice President stated that “our communities are diverse, host and home to people from all corners of our country. The composition of our communities places a burden on leadership to promote peaceful coexistence, mutuality and tolerance.”

He also observed that “our traditional institutions possess emotional channels that penetrate far deeper than the most sophisticated surveillance equipment can. They hear what the government does not hear, they see what the government does not see. They understand the language of the people’s frustrations and can provide valuable intelligence that de-escalates potential conflagrations before they have a chance to spark.

*BUILDING STRONG, STABLE SOCIETY*
Prof. Osinbajo urged political and traditional leaders to shun divisive politics and sentiments in order to build a strong and stable society.

“There is an entire world out there calling to the potential of the young men and women not just of the North, but the whole of Nigeria. We owe it to them to see that they have ample opportunity to take their place in it. We have a duty to remind them of the values that define us, of the virtues of work and faith, tolerance and brotherliness. We owe them a duty to prepare them for a competitive world through knowledge acquisition and moral development.”

“We cannot afford to allow political expediencies taint the sanctity of our traditional institutions. Reviving traditional institutions also requires that we build and rebuild the connecting tissues of trust between political leaders, traditional institutions, and the people,” he said.

Prof. Osinbajo stated the task of promoting peaceful coexistence was “incumbent on traditional rulers in their domains as much as it is on elected leaders on all tiers of governance.”

The VP observed that positive things happen “when traditional institutions throw their moral weight behind progressive causes, whether it is educating the girl-child and getting out-of-school children into schools or championing the conservation of our environment and combating the ravages of drug abuse.

“These are all areas of concern for our administration and there is no doubt that we can prevail over these challenges if we work together.”

He added that “royal fathers have to be fathers of all in word and in deed. Our collective vision must be of an environment of peace, where the right to aspire and self-actualise is supported, irrespective of religion, gender or cultural identity. There is no place for exclusion or nativism. This understanding is at the heart of the consensus upon which we will anchor a peaceful and prosperous country.”

*SARDAUNA'S PRINCIPLES*
According to Prof. Osinbajo, the powerful role traditional institutions play in ensuring peace and security, as well as their influence on values embodied in society, are major principles the late Sardauna held dear.

The Vice President noted the qualities of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, whom he said has “a legacy of unifying the peoples of the North around a common purpose and the visionary pursuit of the actualisation of their individual and collective potential.

“As a Prince of Sokoto and a scion of the traditional institution, the Sardauna embodied the nexus between the ancient and the modern. He was a traditionalist with strong farsighted modernising instincts who understood that the key to the future lay in blending ancient values with progressive truths. As the Premier of the then Northern Region, he understood the necessity of inclusive governance in a plural environment.”

Describing him as a servant leader, the Vice President noted that the Sardauna was a pragmatic unifier who stood for the principles he held dear, while respecting the diverse views of others.

*INSIGHTFUL LECTURE*
The VP also commended the Emir of Lafia, HRH, Hon Justice Sidi Bage (Rtd), who was the Guest Speaker at the event, for “an informative, insightful, historical and contemporary review of law and policy on the role of Northern traditional institutions in the peace and security framework.”

He also commended the organisers, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, for sustaining this important platform for constant introspection and action on national development.

*VP’S NICHE*
In his remarks at the event, Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said Vice President Osinbajo has carved a niche for himself in the task of nation-building, national integration, “as well as remaining a bridge builder."

With the Vice President and the Kano State Governor at the lecture were other dignitaries including the Plateau State Governor Mr. Simon Lalong, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr Emmanuel Akabe; Member, House of Representatives, Hon. Hafiz Ibrahim; the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami; the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar, and the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Aminu Ado Bayero.

*CONDOLENCE VISITS*
Speaking during a condolence visit to the family of late Dr Bashir Tofa, the Vice President described the late politician as “a very unique Nigerian who was a bridge builder, made friends, and built relationships across the country, and made serious contributions in discourse about the country and about national development.”

At the Tudun Yola Quarters Mosque where the renowned Islamic scholar, late Sheikh Ahmad Bamba BUK, resided, the VP, while praying for the deceased family, praised the late Sheik’s teachings, noting that his teachings were “of peace, brotherliness, fairness and justice,” describing him as one of the best known Sunni scholars in the world.

Condoling with the family of the late community leader, Alhaji Hassan Naif, the Vice President urged the family members to preserve the good deeds of their father, stating that “the legacy is one that must be cherished and one that you must promote in every possible way. The legacy of peace and brotherhood with everyone, the legacy of community service.”

Politics / Why I Want To Be The Next APC Chairman by MANofMEN(m): 10:43am On Dec 31, 2021
Why I want to be the next APC Chairman-

Saliu Mustapha

Dear party members,

My name is Saliu Mustapha, a development and commercial real estate consultant, a consumate progressive by choice and a passionate patriot by conviction and I will be running for the office of the National Chairman of our great party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

I have the privilege of being one of the senior figures in the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) who pull through the merger with the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to form the party that ended Peoples Democratic Party's sixteen year long hold on power at the centre.

So how were we able to achieve this momentous feat? We focused on politics with a heart, with the people in mind, from the rural areas to the metropolis, from the grassroots to the urban centres.

We embodied the hopes of a better country and better politics in 2015 with the Change mandate, and not surprising the people showed their trust and belief by electing us for a second term in office in 2019!

We also brought more states under the APC banner as our message of progressive change caught the imagination and hopes of the people!

I must commend the valiant efforts of our party leadership and all previous executives for laying a proper foundation that could easily be built on but first we must put our house in order.

Like I said earlier, I am aspiring to for the position of APC National Chairman. The question some may ask is, why? The answer is not too far fetched; because the time has come! My objective is to lead the party to a new era of sustained victories, progressive policies, dignified politics and national development.

No member of the ruling party can deny that we have had some challenging periods, one of which birthed the current Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) led by Governor Mai Mala Buni.

I recognize and sincerely appreciate the valiant efforts of each member of that committee and promise to build on the gains achieved and mitigate the lows.

The core of my message today is that the time has come for our great party to embrace the future and optimize its mandate and potentials. We have succeeded in righting the course of the nation through the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

But what happens at the end of the eight-year tenure of President Buhari ? Where do we go from here especially as our great leader would not be on the ballot in 2023.

As the aspiring next national chairman of the ruling party, I believe APC needs to consolidate its message and find the best way to build on the success stories of this administration, which I know are numerous inspite of the challenges.

As one who has grown within the political system, a bridge between the past and the future, I have the distinct advantage of unbiased perspective. I have seen the issues, I have identified the winning formula.

I will fortify our wins and reduce opportunities for corrosive developments. I will lead from the front by providing firm, inclusive, proactive, disciplined, fair and transparent leadership as APC chairman.

The proposed party governance approach under my stewardship will ensure that members are recognized and acknowledged. Programmes and plans of the party will be inclusive, strategically crafted, robustly debated and judiciously implemented.

Ladies and gentlemen, even families have disagreements and there is bound to be friction but I will ensure that proper and transparent conflict resolution frameworks are in place.

The younger generation of APC members as well as the older ones have nothing to fear as I am well placed as a bridge between the two.

I am one of the older generations. I am one of the younger generations. I am a bridge for the future with the consciousness and values of the past. So there is indeed no cause for any concern.

Once again, my name is Saliu Mustapha, a consumate progressive by choice and a passionate patriot by conviction and I will be running for the office of the National Chairman of our great party.
Thank you for your anticipated support, come February 2022, let us continue the winning culture. APC! Progress!

Thank you.

Politics / Our Social Investment Programmes Will Accelerate Sustainable Development Goals – by MANofMEN(m): 8:18pm On Dec 21, 2021
*Statehouse Press Release*

*OUR SOCIAL INVESTMENT PROGRAMMES WILL ACCELERATE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS – OSINBAJO*

_*VP highlights efforts by Administration to reduce poverty, provide jobs_

When the Buhari administration set out the Social Investment Programmes, which is now regarded as the largest of its kind in the continent, one of the objectives was to accelerate the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals in the country.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, made the disclosure today at the official launch of the ‘Review of Baseline Report and Realignment of the National Statistical System with SDGs, 2020,’ which held at the Statehouse Banquet Hall, Abuja.

He added that the Federal Government's national development objective is also in line with SDGs, and the Buhari administration will continue to ramp up efforts in reducing poverty, providing jobs for Nigerians, creating wealth and addressing climate change issues.

Prof. Osinbajo noted that Nigeria’s objective of achieving sustainable national development is consistent with the SDGs goals, "to engender an economically sustainable, socially inclusive and environmentally resilient world.

"For Nigeria, and indeed Africa as a whole, the achievement of the SDGs is crucial to the task of ending poverty, hunger, and disease, and safeguarding our environment."

Indeed according to the United Nations, in its report on “How the UN is supporting The Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria”, it noted that “since the adoption of the SDGs in September 2015, Nigeria has continued to demonstrate its commitment to achieving the global goals through leadership and ownership of the implementation process.”

The Vice President then emphasized FG’s commitment, noting that today’s “ceremony marks the culmination of a process which began in 2016 for monitoring and evaluating the progress made in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria.”

Prof. Osinbajo further noted that with the launch, Nigeria will be able to further track its progress annually on the SDGs. He observed that the implementation of the Federal Government’s social protection programmes was central to its vision for sustainable national development and achieving the SDGs.

"This is why in May 2019, Mr. President made a public commitment to lifting approximately 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within a 10-year period. This is a national development priority, which again follows on the establishment of our social protection programmes, the largest Social Investment Programmes (SIPs) on the continent – and which by itself, is an attempt to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs across the country, " the Vice President affirmed.

He described the SIPs as “a multi-pronged approach to wealth creation, human capacity development and poverty alleviation," stressing for instance that “the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) component of the programme reaches approximately 8.9 million poor and vulnerable households and 37.7 million individuals across the country.”

Highlighting the impact of the Social Investment Programmes, Prof. Osinbajo noted that “the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) has provided about 2.4 million loans to petty traders and small entrepreneurs worth N38billion across the country,

Also the administration’s youth employment and skills enhancement initiative, N-Power Programme, “is designed to employ 1 million youths between the ages of 18-35 and further equip them with skills for the job market over a two-year period.”

The Vice President noted that "as a successor plan for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Nigeria SDGs Indicator-Baseline Report (2016) reinforced the need to strengthen our national statistical system to enable effective tracking and monitoring of the SDGs that we all committed to."

On the Report on the ‘Review of Baseline and Realignment of the National Statistical System with SDGs, 2020’ itself, the VP highlighted that “One of the areas of marked improvement in this document is the increased range of reporting – from the 126 indicators recorded in the 2016 Baseline Report - to the 141 indicators in the current 2020 Report.”

Just as the Report also observed, Prof. Osinbajo emphasized that ensuring the SDGs by integrating them into plans and policies, was the approach taken by the Buhari administration in the implementation of its development plans.

These include the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (2017 – 2020), the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPGRS), the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP), and more recently, the National Development Plan 2021-2025, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council in November.

The Vice President commended the efforts of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, and the Statistician-General, Dr. Simon Harry who also made presentations at the event.

He praised Orelope-Adefulire for her “passion and commitment to the enormous task of meeting our SDG commitments”, and the Statistician-General “for your leadership in this important process.”

The VP observed that “the Nigeria SDGs Implementation Plan (2020-2030) offers a coherent pathway for achieving the expected outcomes in the next decade.”

He then presented the report and later inspected 19 ambulances presented by the Nigerian SDGs Office to support the healthcare delivery system at the sub-national level.

Since time immemorial, Great leaders have been described as those who have faith in their beliefs, make hard choice, articulate a clear vision and know that the people are the key to success. Mallam Saliu Mustapha “Turaki’’ as widely known, has been an active player in ‘party’ politics for over two decades and has served the people in various capacities over time and this says a lot about him having the technical know-how/experience for the big job.

He was at different times a prominent member of the All Peoples Party (APP) and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). In 2011, he was unanimously elected as the Deputy National Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, (GCFR).

49 Years old, Mallam Saliu Mustapha represents the two generation in party politics.
He is neither Old nor young but rather he is strong and filled with the wisdom of an old man. Mallam Saliu is an indigene of Kwara state with vast knowledge in mining and mineral resources, a business mogul and a philanthropist.

His candidacy will Unite every arm and tribe in the APC mainly because of his experience and knowledge in party communication.
