Crime › Seven-year-old missing in Ogun, family accuses police of demanding tracking fee by MasterJayJay(op): 6:25pm On Dec 27, 2024 |
A seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, who is a daughter of a female Point-of-Sale operator in Ogun State has been reported missing after being allegedly taken away by one of her mother’s customers.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, December 23, 2024, has drawn concerns from Nigerians on the social media platform, X, amid calls to check the high corruption rate within the Nigeria Police Force.
This was disclosed in a tweet on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, by a tweep, Miyakee, tweeting as #mimara_concept.
Miyakee noted that the man, who is a regular customer of the POS agent, has a good relationship with Akande, buying food items and gifting the young girl money whenever he is around.
However, things took a twist on Monday morning when the man reportedly sent the girl on an errand to get him a sachet of water. As the girl approached the store on her way back, the man was said to have met her halfway.
On seeing this, the unsuspecting mother was reportedly annoyed but her attention span didn’t last long as she was busy with her customers at the store.
Moments later, the man and her daughter were nowhere to be found.
Miyakee tweeted, “My cousin is missing. She was kidnapped by a stranger on the 23rd of December, 2024. The mom, my aunty, does POS business at Sango, Ogun State. She has a male customer who usually comes to withdraw money and buy recharge cards.
“He doesn’t stay in the area. He became friends with the little girl and was always buying her food and gifting her money whenever he came to the store. On the morning of the 23rd, he came to the store and bought food for himself and the little girl as usual. The mom was busy attending to other customers.
“He sent the little girl (a seven-year-old girl) to go get pure water for him. On her way back, he approached her halfway to get the pure water from her. The mom saw this and wasn’t comfortable with it but was distracted by the attention of other customers.
“By the time she turned towards the daughter’s direction to check what was happening, the guy and her daughter were nowhere to be found. They searched everywhere for them but to no avail.”
The tweet added, “She tried calling the customer (she had his phone number). He picked up and said he was at Sango under the bridge and that he was going to call her back. Up till now, he has refused to answer his call. Now the number is no longer reachable. We still cannot find my cousin.”
The tweep noted that the matter was reported at a police station in the Sango area of the state.
However, a police officer had allegedly demanded the sum of N40,000 from Akande’s mother to cover the reporting of the case for N10,000 and the suspect’s tracking fee of N30,000.
“#Princemoye1, #BenHundeyin, they have reported to a police station in Sango and the struggling mum has been asked to pay a total of N10,000 to report the case (she has done that). And to bring N30,000 for the guy’s phone number to be tracked. She’ll be going back there tomorrow to pay.
“As it is now, work hasn’t even started. She only paid N8,000 to write her statement at the station and a total of N2,000 to print out pictures of the missing girl. Then to track the phone number, she has to pay the sum of N30,000 and get a court affidavit to take to MTN’s office.
“Now, she can’t get a court affidavit because of the holidays. So, we’re waiting for the 27th to pay the N30,000 and get the court affidavit. Omo, it’s crazy,” the tweep lamented.
When contacted by our correspondent via a telephone call, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola said, “We’re already on top of the issue. We’re now in communication with the parents. The matter is now properly before the DPO.”
However, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, tweeting as #Princemoye1, responded to the tweet when he was tagged.
Adejobi expressed surprise at the alleged demand for money by the officer, labelling it as “inhuman and unprofessional.”
However, he asked Akande’s family to reach out to him, as he assured them that he’d personally handle the case.
“For a missing person? Asking for money to track? That’s inhuman and unprofessional. Let the family get to me pls. I need to handle it myself. Let them Send me an SMS on my line. Thanks,” Adejobi stated. https://punchng.com/7-year-old-kidnapped-in-ogun-family-accuses-police-of-demanding-tracking-fee/ |

Politics › DHQ Blames ‘Secondary Explosions’ For The Death Of Some Villagers In Sokoto. by MasterJayJay(op): 5:05pm On Dec 27, 2024 |
The Defence Headquarters clarified on Friday that the deaths of 10 villagers in Sokoto State were caused by a secondary explosion at the Lakurawa terrorist logistics base, not by an airstrike conducted by the Nigerian Air Force.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Edward Buba explained that the airstrike was a precision-guided operation targeting the terrorist hideout in the area.
He maintained that the fatalities resulted from the secondary explosion triggered by the destruction of the terrorists’ logistics base.
“The airstrike indeed hit the logistics base of the terrorists, which led to secondary explosions. It was these explosions that caused the casualties reported earlier,” Buba stated.
He further explained that the terrorists’ logistics base housed dangerous materials, including hand cartridges and explosives, which detonated when struck by the Air Force’s precision munitions.
“When I talk of the logistics base, I’m referring to hand cartridges and poles that were kept there. Naturally, when the munition hits, there will be a secondary explosion arising from that, which will generate… you know, other things flying in the air. That led to the death of about 10 persons that were reported. The 10 persons were not hit directly by the airstrikes,” Buba said.
Buba added that intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and human intelligence were carried out over an extended period before the operation was conducted. He also said that the earlier date for the operation had been shifted to prevent human casualties.
“Sustained intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance were conducted over an extended period to confirm the presence of terrorists in the area and to ensure that those present were indeed terrorists. Due to these painstaking measures, the operation, initially scheduled for an earlier date, had to be rescheduled to the 25th, when it was ultimately carried out. The operation was planned as a joint effort, leveraging the air component’s precision strike capabilities and the land component’s advantage of having boots on the ground,” he said.
“This operation began with pre-operational intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions to confirm terrorist activities in the general area. Subsequently, human intelligence was deployed, and their reports corroborated the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance findings, highlighting the strategic importance of neutralising the location. Once confirmed, aircraft were dispatched to conduct precision airstrikes on the identified hideouts at approximately 0600 hours on the specified day.”
Buba said that the ground forces confirmed the destruction of the terrorists’ key infrastructure and the neutralisation of several combatants during the operation, adding that survivors from the group fled the area, leveraging their familiarity with the terrain.
“Locals in the community also confirmed that the terrorists had been using the area as a staging ground for their operations. Intelligence and surveillance reports before the airstrike consistently identified the location as a high-concentration hideout for the Lakurawa group,” he added.
Buba assured that the military would continue its operations to dismantle terrorist networks while minimising harm to civilians and their communities.
“The operation’s primary objective was achieved, and the impact on surrounding villages was minimal,” Buba said. https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/secondary-explosion-not-airstrike-killed-sokoto-villagers-dhq/%3famp

Nigerian Police Accused Of Releasing Drunk Inspector 24 Hours After Shooting Innocent Civilian In Ogun, Leaving Him Bedridden
Aman identified as Olaleye Abdullahi is currently bedridden after he was shot by a policeman, Inspector Moses Momoh, and abandoned at a private hospital in Ogun State.
The incident, according to sources, occurred on December 12, 2024 in front of Matrix Petrol Station, Kara-Berger Road in the state.
Inspector Moses, who was alleged to be drunk, is reportedly attached to Warewa Police Station in the state.
Abdullahi’s family told SaharaReporters that he has been abandoned by police authorities at the hospital while the suspect who was allegedly released from detention 24 hours after the incident, also failed to pay the hospital bills incurred.
They also demanded that “all necessary legal measures be taken against Inspector Moses Momoh to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law”.
“A policeman from Warewa Police Station, who was under the influence of alcohol fatally shot Abdullahi in front of Matrix filling station along Kara-Berger Road, Ogun state,” a source said.

— Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) December 27, 2024
“After firing his weapon once, he was cautioned by his friend, yet he fired again, hitting Abdullahi who was driving gently to his house.
“The officer was detained for 24 hours at Adigboluja Police Station at Ojodu, Berger area of Ogun State, before being released.
“We visited the station and the DPO confirmed to us that he had indeed released him. With almost N4 million bill incurred in the hospital for Abdullahi’s treatment, we (his family) members seek justice before taking the law into our own hands by gathering at the station.
“The officer responsible for this heinous act must be brought to justice through appropriate legal action.”
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, could not be reached for comment as she did not answer her calls.

Crime › Kidnapped Travellers To Ekiti Regain Freedom After Ransom Payment by MasterJayJay(op): 6:33pm On Dec 26, 2024 |
Some travellers abducted on Emure-ile Road in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State have regained their freedom from the kidnappers’ den.
The victims, who were traveling in an 18-seater bus, were abducted on Sunday night by gunmen while returning from Onitsha in Anambra State to Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
The gunmen reportedly contacted the families of the victims, demanding N30 million per person for their release.
However, the victims were released in the early hours of Wednesday morning after paying ransoms ranging from N1 million to N2 million to the kidnappers.
Narrating his ordeal, the driver of the bus, Mr. Sunday Emmanuel, recounted that the incident occurred very close to Emure-Ekiti shortly after they left Eporo-Ekiti.
He revealed that he was released in the early hours of Christmas Day following a ransom payment of N1.5 million, while other passengers reportedly paid ransoms ranging from N1 million to N2 million.
Emmanuel stated that they were fed only Garri mixed with red oil and water for several days by three heavily armed bandits, who appeared to be familiar with the local area.
He stated that they were not subjected to torture, aside from the bruises sustained while being herded through the bush.
Emmanuel confirmed that all the passengers, including a woman and a female corps member, had also regained their freedom.
He said, “They left us in Ago Paanu in Owo area, Ikare Road. We don’t actually know the name of the place, it was the people that lived there that came out to talk to us.
“We trekked the bush from Emure. We trekked through the nights and once it was 5 am, we would stop to take a nap.
“There were two women among us including a female corps member but they were not touched.
“The kidnappers told us they came from Niger Republic. They know all those bushes because we were passing through where cattle are usually herded.
“They are just three men but the machine guns in their hands can’t be dared. They told us that we can only get those weapons from soldiers alone and they have massive extra bullets.
“They don’t eat with us but what we discovered is that one of them would go out to get something. They usually mixed Garri with red oil and we would eat it.
“They took N1.5m from me. Some paid N1m, N2m, 1.45m. They did not harm anybody among us except some bruises we sustained while passing through the bush.
“They kidnapped us in Emure-Ekiti. We had left Eporo, we were about to enter Emure-Ekiti town when the incident occurred.
“It was after five minutes after we left the checkpoint that it happened. Even soldiers at the roadblock not far from where we were kidnapped cannot deny that they didn’t hear the gunshots”, he narrated. https://thenationonlineng.net/just-in-kidnapped-ekiti-travellers-regain-freedom/

LegendHero: There could be unknown gunmen among the travelers so it’s good that the military are being alert. The South East is a den of insecurity presently.
Nothing is too much to sacrifice for security. I support the Nigerian army.
What I don’t support is soldiers collecting money from people. That’s corruption. Stealing money from motorists is being alert? Southeast den of insecurity? When the army is part of the insecurity by stealing from motorists. |
