Clarity is profit; confusion is cost.” – In business and life, the clearer you think, the richer you get. |
Properties of Emulsion Paint Fillers: Emulsion paints contain fillers that help thicken the paint, support the paint structure, and increase volume. Additives: Various additives are included to improve performance, such as: Anti-freeze agents (to protect in cold conditions) Foam-control agents (to reduce bubbles during application) Biocides (to prevent bacterial and fungal growth) |
If you are starting paint production as a beginner, it’s better to follow this order: 1️⃣ Water-based Paints – simple to produce, high demand (like emulsion). 2️⃣ Oil-based Paints – more technical, but profitable (like gloss & enamel). 3️⃣ Decorative Paints – for beautification and design (like textured & metallic). 4️⃣ Industrial Paints – advanced level, specialized market (like epoxy & bituminous). 👉 This order helps you build skills gradually, reduce mistakes, and grow your business step by step. |
TYPES OF PAINT YOU SHOULD KNOW Before going deeper into paint production, it’s important to understand the basic classifications of paint. This will help you know what type of paint you are producing, its uses, and the right market for it. ✅ Major Classifications of Paint: 1. Water-based Paints – e.g., Emulsion, Acrylic, POP, Latex. 2. Oil-based Paints – e.g., Gloss, Enamel, Varnish. 3. Decorative Paints – e.g., Gravitex, Stucco, Metallic, Satin, Matte. 4. Industrial Paints – e.g., Epoxy, Bituminous, Marine paint, Auto paint, Anti-rust. |
For exterior walls, it’s better to use high-grade emulsion with UV resistance to ensure durability and long-lasting finish. For more information on the complete volumes and advanced formulations for special decorative and industrial paints, WhatsApp: 08162940219 |
Note This formula is specifically for Economy Class Emulsion Paint. Other grades include: Middle/Standard Grade Premium Grade High-Quality Premium Emulsion 👉 For more detailed formulas and complete guides across all grades, check my profile for information. |
Production Process Step 1: Pour the required quantity of clean water into an empty mixing tank. Step 2: Add Calgon (dispersant) and stir thoroughly to aid smooth mixing. Step 3: Gradually introduce Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) while stirring continuously until well dispersed. Step 4: Add Calcium Carbonate (CaCO₃) slowly and continue stirring to achieve uniform mixing Step 5: Introduce colour pigments (based on the required shade) and stir until evenly distributed. Step 6: Add PVA (binder) and stir well to ensure proper adhesion and film-forming properties. Step 7: Prepare Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) separately by dissolving it in a small bowl of water, then add gradually into the mixture while stirring thoroughly. This serves as a thickener and stabilizer. Step 8: Add Genipol/Genipple (emulsifier/wetting agent) and stir. Step 9: Add Biocide to protect against bacterial growth and stir thoroughly. Step 10: Adjust the mixture with Ammonia (pH regulator) and stir well. Step 11: Add Defoamer (if necessary) to control foam. Step 12: Package the finished product into a 20-litre bucket and seal properly. |

we’ll begin the Paint Production eBook Series with Emulsion Paint from Volume 1 (Decorative Paints). Emulsion Paint Emulsion paints are mixtures of two substances that normally do not mix. In an emulsion, one substance is dispersed as fine particles within the other. Since natural emulsions are generally unstable, emulsion paints are stabilized through emulsification—a process where polyvinyl acetate (PVA) and other additives are homogeneously blended together. --- Properties of Emulsion Paint Fillers: Emulsion paints contain fillers that help thicken the paint, support the paint structure, and increase volume. Additives: Various additives are included to improve performance, such as: Anti-freeze agents (to protect in cold conditions) Foam-control agents (to reduce bubbles during application) Biocides (to prevent bacterial and fungal growth) |

Let talk primer and it's functions: primer is a preparatory coating that you apply to a surface before painting. It serves as the foundation for paint or finishing coats, helping them stick better and last longer. 🔑 Functions of a primer: Adhesion: Helps paint bond properly to the surface. Sealing: Blocks stains, moisture, or porous surfaces (like wood, plaster, or concrete). Durability: Makes the paint finish last longer and prevents peeling or flaking. Uniformity: Provides an even base so the paint color looks consistent. |
The most technologically advanced paint will fail if surface preparation is skipped or incomplete. That’s why surface prep is over-emphasized in painting: Even the best paint is only as good as the surface it’s applied on. Nairaland’s 40-character limit make posting hard, but I’ll still try to share useful painting tips. |
Surface preparation typically involves: 1. Cleaning: Removing dirt, grime, and contaminants. 2. Repairing: Fixing cracks, holes, and imperfections. 3. Sanding: Smoothing out the surface. 4. Filling: Filling gaps or holes. 5. Priming: Applying a primer to enhance adhesion and coverage. Proper surface preparation helps: - Ensure paint adheres well - Prevent peeling or flaking - Achieve a smooth finish - Extend the lifespan of the paint job |
What is Surface preparation? Surface preparation is the process of cleaning, repairing, and treating a surface before applying paint or a coating. It's a crucial step to ensure a smooth, durable, and long-lasting finish. Research shows that 80% of paint failures can be directly linked to inadequate surface preparation. |
Painting is more than just applying color — it’s a skill anyone can learn and even turn into income. ✅ Choosing the right paint type for different surfaces. ✅ Preparing walls properly (that’s 70% of the job!). ✅ Simple steps for beginners to start paint production. I’ll be sharing practical tips here that can help you improve your space, or even build a small business. |
