Nigerian prosperity pastors have emerged among the wealthiest pastors in the world, but their luxury lifestyles are at wide variance with the level of poverty of most of their church members who struggle each day to get food to eat. This year alone, two of the pastors bought two private jets of sixty million dollars (N12 billion) each!

The majority of Nigerians frown at such flagrant displays of opulence, particularly on the path of their clergymen, given that 60% of Nigerians still live below the poverty line.

Paradoxically, the same people who complain about the extravagant lifestyles of their spiritual leaders are the same ones who finance it. Every Sunday, swarms of worshipers rush to the church to give away their hard-earned money to the pastors’ coffers in the form of tithes, offerings and special gifts with the deluded hope of multiplied financial blessings in return. For many, this is but a pipe dream. Deep down, the pastors smile; they’ve got just the perfect suckers according to Forbes.

A pastor who taught at a Baptist seminary in New Orleans has committed suicide just days after his name was exposed by the hackers of Ashley Madison - the adultery website. John Gibson was a minister and a professor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a respected pastor by members of his church, but was found on adultery website by hackers. John Gibson could not live to suffer the shame of leading double life.

According to source, the shame is particularly acute for members of church leadership who build their lives on guiding followers in moral, and in John Gibson’s case, Christian lives. Over at Christianity Today, Ed Stetzer called the leak a “significant moment of embarrassment for the Church,” and estimated that hundreds of pastors, clergy and staff could be caught up.

Just weeks before their national election to choose a new government, Burkina Faso’s military has overthrown the ruling interim government. This is the 9th military coup in the history of this West African country. The country’s general elections was earlier scheduled on October 11, 2015.

It will be recalled that Burkina Faso’s President Blaise Compaore was ousted in a popular uprising in October 2014 after he tried to prolong his 27-year rule.
