NICH DOWN TO THE SUB-NICHE

Confused? Yes, you should be, but remember a niche is a market term used on the internet and when you want to choose a niche your advice to choose a specific niche. Choosing a specific niche saves you a lot especially if it is around your hobbY list it helps in times of making content and looking for a specific audience.
In the case of a niche-ing down, it takes these tactics to choose a good one;
Example: Entertainment is a common niche everyone in Nigeria wants to join, and if I may ask why? Some have no passion around it but they say “Ikeji makes money from it”. If you fall into this category of people who reason such then you're totally lost in the market.

I am not condemning it but I have an advice for you if you really want to join the entertainment niche which is over populated by Nigerian mediaprenuers, then use this strategy to niche down deep to get a specific niche market:

Entertainment------Music------Davido x Wizkid.
(you could build a fan base blog about Davido and Wizkid, write about their tours and music, without critics. You could get signed)

Sports----Football-----how to be a dribble freak.
You can blog about dribbling and sports if you're a football enthusiast and you find sports to be a passion.

But there are still opportunities in the industry to join without having to niche down or deeper because they are still untouched e.g Travel niche, Cooking Niche. Try them!

KEYWORD RESEARCH

The next thing on demand is to know what kind of keyword would be suitable for your domain name to at least give you a chance to build an authority online. "Learn how to be a dribbling freak” no you can't use the keyword to own a domain name because it won't be accepted and it looks inappropriate. So using some analytics software to analyse the use of your ideal keyword is a great idea.
You can use the market samurai on a free trail for30 days(video coming soon at) or you can alternatively use the google word to get real time analytics of the keys you want to use,the availability and the click through rate based on the demographic you want to position your niche to drive traffic.

COMPETITION

Every business is entitled to one or more competitors, so your likely to have a competitor no matter how untapped that niche is. And if you don't have a competitor please don't venture into it because there could be no market for it.
Use the Google search engine to look out for your competitors in the same niche you're about to go in, visit their site, constructively look at the positioning of their content and others, you can go as far as joining their newsletters to see how they communicate with their subscribers,how they position the emails etc.
Look out for even more competitors and strategize how to get ahead of them or be with them.
