Despite renewed hostilities being launched by the outlawed Boko Haram sect, the Chief of Army Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth‎ Minimah, has insisted that the military was on top of the situation.

Minimah, who spoke at the passing out parade of the newly commissioned Army Lieutenants ‎at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI), Jaji, Kaduna State, on Saturday, corroborated President Muhammadu Buhari‘s comment that Nigeria was winning the war against Boko Haram.

The Army Chief said although the operating environment remained complex and dynamic, the terrorists had been seriously degraded.

He told the newly commissioned officers that they would be joining the rank of officers and men who have demonstrated gallantry and valour in defence of their fatherland ‎in the war against terrorists.

Minimah said, “Gentlemen, your imminent admission into the officer cadre comes with privileges but also with huge demands at great costs. You are being commissioned into the Nigerian Army at a time we are confronting one of our greatest challenges at home.

“Therefore, you must display a high level of competence and junior leadership that would endear you to your soldiers towards the attainment of our collective mission.‎

“You must be ready to contribute your quota towards taming the bandits called Boko Haram. You will be leading men who have firmly resolved that never again will a band of bigoted miscreants be allowed to unleash havoc on our country and its citizens”.

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency at the 2015 general elections, Mrs. Mary Enwongulu, has been kidnapped.

The kidnap, which occured in the early hours of Wednesday July 1, 2015, has been confirmed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ismaila Umar-Numan.

Umar-Numan, who spoke to newsmen in Akwanga, called on the family members and the public to remain calm as police were doing everything possible to rescue her.

He said: “We have received information this morning that Mrs. Mary Enwongulu has been kidnapped and we immediately mobilised our men to make sure that they rescued her from the hand of the abductors.

“It is true that she has been kidnapped. We will make sure that police rescued her from the hand of the abductors.

“The issue is not even whether her abductors had demanded for ransom or not.”

He stressed that investigation was on to know her whereabouts, even as he urged members of the public to give useful information to enable the police to rescue her.

Umar-Numan also urged the public to always offer vital information to the police to check criminal activities in the state and the country at large in the interest of peace and national development.

 

Miss Rosemary Audu, Personal Assistant to Mrs. Enwongulu, disclosed that the kidnappers stormed the house by 2 am. and made away with her boss.

“I was with her in the house when the abductors came into the house around 2.am and I pleaded with them to leave her, but they went away with her”, she said.

Mrs. Enwongulu’s security guard, Joel Tanko, also told newsmen that he ran for safety when he heard gunshots outside the gate house.

He said: “I was at the gate when I heard gun shots around 2 am outside the gate and I have to run and hide for my safety within the house”.

Enwongulu, whose husband, Emmanuel Enwongulu, died on June 5, 2015, is challenging the victory of David Ombugadu at the Election Petitions Tribunal.
