You can but u'll have to disable the new control centre and go back to the old notification style.

Settings>Display>Control centre & Notification Shade>Use new notification shade, just disable the last option and u'll get what u what, u can always enable it anytime you want it.... Cheers

In MUI 12 you have to set it yourself. he should go to settings, enter notification => Notification shade => Notch & status bar then on the show connection speed.

After updating to miui 12, I can't find the data usage that used to be in the top left corner of the screen in miui11... anyway to fix this on miui 12
