CHAPTER 16 Boss man, we were able to gun down his aid and driver but surprisingly, he was no where to be found in the car, Sparrow said shakily. What the hell do you mean by that statement? In fact i've got no time to banter words with you, he said as he brought out his gun. Boss man, boss man, please temper justice with mercy. I know i have failed immeasurably but i've also been patriotic. Please have mercy on my life, he said pleadingly. Kola stared at him with pity in his eyes, he suddenly felt sober. He had turned into a monster just because of Chisimdi, she brewed an alien in him which was unfathomable. He missed his old life but the quest for love and vengeance had eaten deep into him. He had come this far, hence it was too late to go back. He looked at Sparrow whose eyes had turned red and cocked his gun. Say me high to Spider, he said as he sent a bullet straight to his heart. ************************** Sir, the discrepancies on the documentation is alarming. Just yesterday, a billion naira was transferred from the company's account to an unknown source. Holy shit! A billion what? Yes Sir, a billion naira and i'd suggest we interrogate Mr Fayode, i carried out a thorough assessment on him and i think he has a "skeleton in his cupboard." What then are you waiting for? Go do that right away, i'd invite the IG into this matter because this is absolutely cataclysmic. A billion naira is a lot to loose and i can't afford to loose more. Yes sir, i'd be on my way now, the accountant said and left the office. My God! A billion naira! How is that feasible? Someone is definitely out there to dilapidate me but i know you won't authorize it. You've envinced yourself to me on multitudinous occasions and i know as long as you sit on that throne, i'd remain impregnable to my foes. His phone rang immediately and he picked it up. Baby, she is awake, she is awake, Chisimdi screamed excitedly. Wo! Take it easy pumpkin, do you wanna render me deaf? He asked jokingly. So sorry my love, i'm just so excited. It's been two weeks since she swooned into comatose and i've been melancholic. I comprehend baby, i feel relieved hearing this. I'd be on my way immediately okay. Alright sugar, i'd be expecting you. I love you, she said and hung up without waiting for his response. He quickly forgot about his dilemma and beamed. He always loved to see her happy, her gaiety meant the world to him. He had not visited the hospital since the last time Kyla swooned because of his busy schedule but there was something familiar about her, he could swear he had seen her in the past and he was obfuscated. He took his car keys and headed out of the office, he was not used to the charade of moving in fleet of cars and soldiers at his beck and call but he had to be sage after his last encounter with death. He didn't wanna take chances and put the Lord to test by moving alone so he hired soldiers to protect him. He got into the hospital room and they swiftly turned towards his direction. Kyla was dazed with his presence, she couldn't believe her eyes and he was the reason she swooned. Oh baby, i'm glad you could make it today. Meet my beautiful but troublesome friend Kyla. Kyla, meet the love of my life, Jide. Jide stared at her intensely this time around and it struck him like a "thunderbolt." She was one of the Ladies he jilted, he slept with her and avoided her calls like a plaque. Chisimdi glared at her friend and fiancee and construed something was amiss. Why were they gaping at each other? Please can someone tell me what is going on? I'm at loss here, she said trying to brace them back to their senses but none responded to her question. Baby, what is the matter? Are you guys acquainted? Kyla, please say something, she said. He is my baby's father, Kyla dropped the "bombshell" with tears trickling down her eyes. What! Baby's father! What do you mean by that statement? Jide asked visibly shaken by her utterance. Yes you are my baby's father. You took advantage of my vulnerability and ditched me afterwards. I tried reaching you on several occasions but you never picked up my calls neither did you return any. You had me blocked. Well, the seed in my womb is the aftermath of our escapade. No! No! Kyla, tell me this is a joke. I think you are erroneous He is my Jide, the one i always told you about. The one who dignified my thoughts and dreams. Kyla, this can't be your mystery man, Chisimdi muttered confusingly. I guess he can speak for himself, Kyla said. Baby, please tell me this ain't true, tell me this is an hallucination, tell me you didn't do it, Chisimdi said tearily. Pumpkin, please calm down, he said as sweat profused from his pores. The room suddenly became stuffy despite the air condition. How was he gonna spill the ugly truth to her? He thought. Baby, you ain't saying anything, please talk to me and deliver me from this misery. My love, you are cognizant of my past life. I lived the life of a player, i splintered hearts and i'm not proud of that. If i could turn back the hands of time, i'd do things differently. Sweet, you are "beating around the bush." Did you sleep with her or not? Jide was petrified with the look on her face, he stood still like a mannequin and tried congregating his answer. Yes i did sleep with her but that pregnancy ain't veritable, it ain't mine. You must be out of your God damn mind! We had unprotected sex because you had no condom in your wallet, have you forgotten? Kyla spilled angrily. Bleep! Jide cursed inaudibly. He remembered vividly and that was a mistake he swore never to repeat. How could that singular act of mistake threaten to mar his future? Why was the universe against him? What cruelty had he done to "Mother Nature" to deserve such calamity? He ogled at the love of his life and his heart shattered at the sight of her tears. Chisimdi fell to the ground and drowned herself in tears. How could Jide do this to her? How could he smash her heart? Just when love had beckoned on her door, things decided to take a drastic turn. My love, you are incapacitating me with your tears, he said as he rushed to hug and console her. She snivelled in his arms and held on to him like her life depended on it, savouring the moment. She didn't wanna let go, she wanted to fight for him, for what they shared but how could she do that with her best friend carrying his baby. She disentangled from his embrace and swiftly removed the ring from her finger. Pumpkin, please don't do this. Please don't leave me, we can sort this out, we can pull through together, we can weather this storm together, Jide said as tears graced his eyes. She was broken and couldn't utter a word, she gawked at his handsome face for a while, gave him a peck and left the room. Kyla whimpered as she watched the both of them, what they shared was pukka and she felt bad for herself because he was never gonna love her the way he did to her friend, it was conspicuous enough for her to see. I'm sorry, she muttered. You don't have to feel sorry, i'd take culpability for my actions but i'd never get married to you, not in this life time, he said as he stumped out of the room while trying to wipe the tears from his eyes. 3 Likes |
