I can remember when I started learning driving way back with my Dad's Peugeot 504 and the engine always goes off whenever I stepped on the clutch to change gears. That's how I gave up on driving for many years till he bought automatic car. I watched few YouTube videos and started driving.

Just put the thing for D and start driving.
Driving goes beyond changing of gears.
