The people of Anambra State might have to wait longer than necessary to know who their next governor will be as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday morning declared weekend’s governorship election in the state as inconclusive. Making the announcement at exactly 6:10am today, the Returning Officer, Prof James Epoke, who is also Vice-Chancellor, University of Calabar (UNICAL), declared that a supplementary election would be conducted at a date to be fixed by the electoral umpire. The major reason for declaring the election inconclusive, according to the R.O is that, for a candidate to be declared winner, he must have scored not only the highest number of votes cast, but should have also scored 25 per cent in two-third of the local government areas in the state.
Apparently, due to the large number of cancelled votes, which stood at 113,113, no candidate scored the required percentage. Therefore, INEC had to examine the votes of the winner and the runner-up to determine if the difference is less than the cancelled figure. Based on the results of valid votes so far collated, Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) polled 174,710 votes to emerge tops while Tony Nwoye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 94,956 votes to place second.
The difference in the figures between the first two candidates, which is 79,754 is less than the cancelled votes (113,113), the commission could not declare any of the candidates outright winner. A total of 1,763,751 voters were registered for the election, while 451,826 were accredited. Total valid votes were 413,005, while total number of rejected votes was 16,544. Total votes cast were 429,549. Out of the cancelled votes, 89,997 were from Idemili North Local Government Area alone, and additional 636 from two units in Idemili South. According to figures released by INEC, APGA came first with 174,710 votes.

Five gunmen, suspected to be ritualists on Sunday invaded the government hospital in Ado-Ekiti, demanding for new born babies. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gunmen who were said to be numbering about five, arrived at the hospital at about 1:00 a.m. demanding for a day old babies, and beating up staff who could not give satisfactory answer.
A senior health officer, who pleaded anonymity, said that the armed men invaded the hospital located along Irona area at about 1:00 a.m. and suddenly began molesting medical officials on night duty. According to the officer, the invaders, who were fully armed, demanded for the whereabouts of a particular baby, said to have been delivered earlier in the day. “They got more annoyed when they were told that no baby was available in the hospital as at the time they came, it angered then the more and they went berserk,’’ the officer said. Former Borno State governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has topped the chart of top 10 private jet owners in Nigeria with the acquisition of a brand new Gulfstream G650 model worth about $72 million (N11.5 billion).
Encomium Weekly’s check revealed that it’s the most expensive private jet among wealthy Nigerians who are privileged to have these expensive toys. The latest acquisition brings to four planes in his fleet. We gathered that the aircraft, which was registered in Dubai with special specifications, is the fourth in his fleet, as the former governor already has three old Dornier aircraft which he acquired from Aero Contractors at an estimated $3 million (N480 million).
According to our source, a Dornier aircraft is used for charter services as Sheriff recently obtained an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for his airline, Skybird. But a source said the Gulfstream was acquired for Sheriff’s personal use.
