The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation on Monday said it would assist the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in tracking oil and gas revenue that accrue to the Federal Government.

It said the OAGF’s assistance to NEITI to track oil and gas revenue would ensure appropriate remittances.

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, stated this when he received the leadership of NEITI, led by the agency’s Executive Secretary Orji Ogbonnaya-Orji.

Idris made the promise while reacting to NEITI’s request for support to effect requisite reforms in the management of the country’s oil and gas revenues.

He was quoted in a statement issued in Abuja by his agency’s spokesperson, Henshaw Ogubike, as saying, “The federal treasury will partner and give the necessary support to NEITI to achieve efficient monitoring of oil and gas revenue accruals to the government.”

Idris said the effort of NEITI to entrench probity, transparency and accountability in the management of the country’s oil and gas revenue was in line with the government’s financial management reforms initiatives.

The police in Kaduna state, Wednesday confirmed the abduction of students of a private university, Greenfield University in Kaduna.

ASP Mohammed Jalige, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, said the exact number of students that were abducted from the school was yet to be known.

He said a roll call was being taken to ascertain the identity and number of the students that were abducted.

He said when the abductors reached the university,” the police and the military moved to the school immediately after they got wind of the attack.”

The Lagos State University Students’ Union Government (LASU-SUG) has appealed to the institution’s management, the Governing Council and the State Government to reconsider the 168 per cent increased school fees for the students.

The President of LASU- SUG, AbdulBasit Ashade, made the appeal on Friday.

Ashade said that the LASU management should review the fee downward within 14 days.

He said that the union being the voice of the entire LASU students had been gravely disturbed by the increment in tuition fee.

He said that the union would continuously engage the necessary parties to actualise a reversal of the fees to the initial N25,000.

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, may announce a fresh lockdown in the state following the rise in COVID-19 infections.

A governor’s aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Obiano was no longer comfortable with the rate the disease was spreading in the state.

“There are 80 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state since the second wave began two weeks ago, meaning an average of 40 cases per week. In contrast, the state used to record nine cases per week on average in the first wave.

American rapper, DaBaby, has been released from police custody after he was arrested for gun possession on Thursday afternoon in Beverly Hills, California.

The 29-year-old rapper was charged on one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, the Beverly Hills Police tell PEOPLE.

US President-elect Joe Biden on Thursday unveiled his picks for commerce secretary, labor secretary and small business administrator to fill his incoming economics team.

The transition named Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, Boston Mayor Martin Walsh and former Obama official Isabel Guzman as nominees for the three positions, respectively.

“With two dozen cabinet nominees announced, President-elect Biden has put forward the most diverse cabinet in American history,” the Biden team said in a statement.

Biden had already revealed choices for part of his economic team in early December, composed mostly of women, minorities and those who had served under former president Barack Obama.

Most notable was former Federal Reserve chair, Janet Yellen, as treasury secretary.

Biden called on the outgoing President, Donald Trump to fulfil his oath on national television and defend the country’s constitution.

Recall that a violent protest had erupted at the US Capitol after Trump addressed his followers vowing “never to concede” defeat.

During the protest, a woman was shot dead.

Reacting, Biden said the incident was not a representation of who Americans are.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed concern over the high cases of coronavirus recorded in the state.

He urged residents in the state to observe measures put in place to curb the spread of the virus, noting that the state government was doing everything possible to avoid another lockdown.

He said this in a statement after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced 1,354 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Tuesday.

The agency said 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory recorded the new infections with Lagos State having more cases with 712 and the FCT, 145 cases.
