oyatz: If the Billions used by Akwa-Ibom to build Church Catheral and the Billions used by Aregbesola to build a non-existent Airport were invested on Cattle ranches in Akwa-Ibom andf Osun States for THEIR PEOPLES, 11) It would have generated jobs for thousands of youths in these States 2) Hunger and poverty would have reduced in these States 3) It would served as role models which can inspire other States.
If the 17 Southern States have massive ranches in their States, they would be competing with Fulani Herdsmen, who by now will have no option than modernize their own cattle business model from traditional open grazing to modernized ranching system. If you ranch without subsidy, you cannot compete with anybody because your cows will be more expensive. Did you skip economics classes in secondary school? |

helinues: What is stopping the southern people from starting their own cow business without relying on Northern cows.
Can't we start the solution from there? Do you understand that over 80% of cattle in the South are owned by southerners? They only hand them over to herders to take care of for them. When you go meet a lot of the rich folks in the south, you will understand it better. In a lot of cases, they pay the community leaders money to graze their cattle in the bushes too. Problem arise when community leaders collect money from herders and then turn around to sell the same land to farmers |

Dsimmer: That's a lie. Show an example where the Europeans were roaming around with cows like uncivilised retards.
In fact, it's high time the people in Nigeria are enlightened on the fact that Open grazing is even unproductive even to the uncivilised owners, apart from their caustic effect on the society.
Ranching is more productive. There are open pasture in the western countries. The only thing is that where the open pasture is are defined and you can't turn there. |

helinues: My point is, if we have guidelines in regulating businesses in Nigeria whether cows, garages or whatever we shouldn't be having back and forth arguments about cow grazing or ranching in particular.
How many years have we been discussing this same issue when we could have resolved it long time? Do you know why we have the farmer-herder crisis? Do you understand that it is because 1. Places that used to be farms are not becoming towns due to population growth 2. So because of the first point, places that used to be free for herders are now farms and the farms need to grow 3. The herders now have nowhere to go because they have more animals (population that consumes has increased) and the farms are now in places where they normally graze without issues. How do we solve this? Remember when the former president suggested RUGA which would have separated animals from farms but it was resisted |

raskymonojendor: Not entirely true. I do alot of field work and I have seen open grazing here in the USA and Canada. Sometimes I have to stop for the cows to cross some roads.
It's not uncommon to see cow boys on horses or ATVs herding cows in rural America. Nigerians act like open grazing is something that should be forbidden when what we need are laws separating herders from farmers and cities. These laws must be discussed extensively |

Dsimmer: Open grazing is an unproductive useless barbaric practice. In a sane civilized society like Europe, such retarded people would be shot dead in the first place.
Anyone who wants to go into animal farming, either pig, goat, cow etc should ranch it. Simple as ABC. This is 21st century. It's not by force to rear animal. Do you know in the UK, Scotland, Norway, Belgium, Germany etc a large amount of their animals are raised based on open grazing? It is called open pasture. Even in Canada. This is because ranching is expensive and the government wants the cost of food to be low so they provide these lands where your animals can graze without hindrance. |

helinues: Why should government be interfering into private business.
If they have guidelines about how to run business in the country, Cows discussion shouldn't be consuming our time Same way government build garages for private bus drivers Same way government build airports for private aviation companies Same way government build grain reserves to store private farm produce. Food is matter of national security. It needs to be discussed. |

FreeStuffsNG: Only inferiority complex and low self esteem could make anyone think that discussing about cow is debasing or suddenly makes you have low intelligence quotient. Few weeks ago, there was an outbreak of bedbugs in France and discussion of bedbugs became a national debate , featured on CNN and even carried to US! Discussing bedbugs at a national level is what again? Many of you have not stepped out of Nigeria and Africa yet you debase your own race. Smh
Cow has been a subject of debate in Europe and even India, discussing it is not special. Where I come from in Nigeria, it's better to jaw jaw than to war war. You can come online to form yet if beef scarcity sets in, you will complain of hunger.
My position is that making laws on cow business should go to the states houses of assembly because they are in a better place to monitor the business. It should go to the states alone, they should be involved as on the national level, it needs to be discussed. If cattle are ranked, it means they buy feed, it means less grains for human consumption that is a problem too. Cow (and animal farming) should not just be discussed, a conference should be held about it |

kYjelly2: Dude, it's just cow.
They are not debating any industry, if not you would have heard terms like preservation, pricing, processing, standards...
They are talking about whether or not, COW should be allowed to roam the streets.
Something that has a simple answer, "NO" and a simple solution, "RANCHING"
The issue with Nigeria is we make simple problems look like Rocket Science, so simple problems with simple solutions keep piling up unsolved.
NO! COWS SHOULD NOT BE HERDED ON THE STREETS , simple, then move on to the next problem.
If in 2024 we can't figure out whether or not COWs should be herded on public streets, then what year do you think we will solve problems like Electricity and pipe borne water? In year 3000?
God have mercy on us. It is not a matter of "no cow should be on the street" It is a matter of if you will ranch, where do you get funding for it? If you want to do large scale semi-open grazing where animals can open-graze but within the confines of a place, where do you get the land and how far is the lands to the markets and consumers? It is a matter of if you dance totally, you will need to buy feeds, these will increase the cost of production therefore increasing the cost of beef Do you understand that Western countries subsidize animal farmers per head of animal they have just so their cost of production can reduce will will keep the price of the food down? Do you understand these or you just want to shout cow 🐄 cow 🐄 cow 🐄? |

You can't just over-simpkify it to be cow |

0001Lagos: Then let the strike continue
This governors are very wicked
The federal government should pay N100,000 for a minimum wage to federal workers and make it a law that no state should pay below N85,000 minimum wage There can't be a law mandating anyone to do what he/she cannot physically do. State civil services are over bloated and governors struggle to pay 30,000. Abia state can't even pay the 30,000 yet you want to make it 85,000. When you make this law, I hope you will be ready for the drama that will follow when the governors decide to downsize the civil service |
