More revelations continue to emerge on the alleged abduction of Ese Oruru, the 14-year-old from her parents’ home in Bayelsa. Yunusa Yellow’s father, Dahiru Bala, in an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Wednesday, said his son was a house help to the Oruru’s family for 10 years in Yenagoa. He also said that he was opposed to the marriage of his son to Ese because he (Yinusa) was already engaged in the village. His words: “ Yunusa was a domestic help to Oruru's family for 10 years and when he told me of his love relationship with Ese, I opposed him because we already have a bride for him in the village". Apart from being engaged, he also said allowing his son to marry Ese will be against his religion. "The relationship between my son and Ese was built on ignorance of their religious background which made it difficult for any of us to support their marriage proposal". Dahiru Bala revealed that the teenager reportedly said to be 5 months pregnant converted to Islam on her own free will. “Sequel to the request of Ese, she was converted to Islam on the order of the District Head before he was taken to the Emir's palace for his final say". "On arrival at the Emir's palace, a senior counsellor who took the brief summon for the Sharia Commission to take custody of Ese Oruru till the arrival of the emir the next day. “ Shedding more light, Bala said that the emir who subsequently met with them ordered that the Sharia commission should liaise with the Assistant Inspector General of police, zone 1 to return her home with immediate effect. According to Yunusa's father "the much anticipated return of Ese Oruru to Bayelsa was truncated by her when she broke down in the AIG office and raised questions on safety to her life back home. Subsequently, the move was halted to pave for investigation". The peasant farmer who was surrounded by his village men during the encounter said that "the last we heard of Ese Oruru was that she was in custody of Sharia commission who kept her in the home of the District Head at Kura". ABUJA — President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, has formally replied a letter ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to the National Assembly on January 13, accusing the country’s federal lawmakers of corruption, greed, lawlessness and impunity. This came barely days after the Senate President took delivery of exotic cars for the Senate. In his reply, dated January 29, Saraki responded to Obasanjo’s concern, saying the 8th National Assembly under his leadership was already taking deliberate steps to strengthen the country’s democratic institutions and ensure prudent management of resources. “This is to ensure that we plug all leakages and minimize waste across our expenditure systems,” the Senate President said in the two-page letter. “Likewise, the 8th National Assembly has made the issue of plugging leakages and cutting wastages in our public expenditure system a major priority that should not be toyed with. This may have happened in the past but it will not happen with us,” he said. The former president had in his letter, addressed to Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, accused the lawmakers of fixing and earning salaries and allowances far above what the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission approved for them. He also alleged that most of the 109 senators and 369 members of the House of Representatives were receiving constituency allowances without maintaining constituency offices as the laws required of them. He faulted the plans by the lawmakers to acquire new exotic cars for themselves, saying “whatever name it is disguised as, it is unnecessary and insensitive.” He advised that “a pool of a few cars for each chamber will suffice for any Committee Chairman or members for any specific duty.” But in his response, Saraki told the former President that the lawmakers were fully aware of the challenges the nation was facing. He said: “As leaders with a duty, we will not disappoint Nigerians in their yearnings for a more transparent public expenditure system.” On corruption, Saraki said the National Assembly was working with President Muhammadu Buhari to stem the menace in the country. According to him, the legislature was already overhauling its oversight functions to make it more effective in exposing corruption in federal ministries, departments and agencies. He said: “We are hand in glove with the President on this matter and this is why we are overhauling our oversight functions to make it more effective in exposing corruption in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies. “We recognize the hard work our anti-corruption agencies are putting into this fight. |

– Dangote’s company still tops in spite of drop on billionaire’s list – Stock rises in a seven-week high Dangote Cement, owned by Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has risen Nigeria’s stock. In spite of the fact that he dropped from his previous rating on the list of world’s richest men , Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s company has lifted the Nigerian stocks on Wednesday, March 2. In a recently released list of the world’s richest men, Nigeria’s Dangote, with a wealth worth about $15 billion, placed 51st on the list of billionaires, falling from his initial 37th position. But this did not stop the business mogul’s company from lifting the stocks in the Nigerian stock exchange market on Wednesday. According to Reuters, the Nigerian stocks’ rise is a seven-week high and was driven by gains in Dangote Cement after the company proposed to increase its full-year dividend by 33 percent to 8 naira ($0.04) per share. The report has it that shares in Dangote Cement, which accounts for a third of the total market capitalisation of the bourse’s constituents, went up by about 7 percent to 162 naira following the 2 percent rise in pretax profit for 2015 and dividend increase. It explained further that Nigeria’s all-share index, (the second-biggest weighting behind Kuwait on the MSCI frontier market index) was up 2.5 percent at 25,448 points by 1159 GMT, a situation which makes it the highest since January 13. An anonymous stock dealer was quoted to have said that, “some investors were excited by the dividend payout by Dangote Cement and this has boosted interest in the shares.” Another company owned by the billionaire businessman, Tiger Brands, also gained massively, rising by about 9.3 percent. Furthermore, Zenith Bank was up 4.7 percent, Dangote Sugar rose by nearly 5 percent and Pan African banking group Ecobank Transnational Inc gained 2.4 percent. |

one of the reasons why Africans don't progress is that we all think alike, if u want to b zuckerburg u must b able to dream and imagine... just want to make a comment base to my finding and liberal view because am not a marxian. there was a man called yinusa who moved or migrated from kano to bayelsa found a teenager called ese, they both fell in love and then for this feelings to turn into reality their was a need for relocation, they both did the planning and flew together to kano. the careless parents were left in limbo and hopelessness and after some months back they decide to be serious and went for a search when the deed had been done. if u want to understand me come to warri 70% of the girls under 17 are either a mother, abt to become a mother or have had abortion. thank u. |
