Six political parties that participated in Bayelsa State governorship election have demanded the cancellation of polls in Sagbama, Nembe, Ekeremor, parts of Ogbia and Yenagoa local government areas of the state. The parties, under the aegis of Coalition of Progressive Parties, said besides the contentious Southern Ijaw poll, there was widespread violence and malpractices in the aforementioned local government areas.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Akwa Ibom Chief Inibehe Okori has described his defeat at the elections petitions tribunal as an injustice given the evidence before the court. Okori who was the party’s candidate for Akwa Ibom North East in a statement made available to Nigerian Pilot in Uyo yesterday described the decision of the court to uphold the election of Senator Godswill Akpabio of the PDP as a “ judgment without justice”.

Bloody clash between the Nigerian Army and the Shi’ite Islamist group in Zaria, Kaduna State last weekend has taken international colouration, following condemnation of the violent crisis by the United Kingdom, United States of America, Iran and other countries. No doubt, the South-East has the worst state of federal roads in Nigeria. Prominent sons and daughters from the geo-political zone have on several occasions called on past and present governments to rehabilitate the roads not only because it facilitates economic and commercial activities, but also it gives the people a sense of belonging. Despite all these calls, most of the roads in the region are currently not motorable. Commuters go through hell, especially during the rainy reason, in some of these roads better described as ‘death traps’.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin-City, Edo State on Monday, upheld the State House of Assembly election petition tribunal judgment, which had upheld the election victory of Hon Peter Uviejitobor, winner of the April 11, 2015, House of Assembly election for Udu constituency. French police have identified the third attacker at the Bataclan during the Paris attacks, Prime Minister Manuel Valls says. Mr Valls did not name the man, but did not dispute reports naming him as French national Foued Mohamed-Aggad, 23, from Strasbourg. Ninety people were killed at the Bataclan in last month’s attacks. All three gunmen who attacked the venue wearing suicide vests have been confirmed as French nationals.
