CosmeticChemist:
For a 50 horsepower electric motor, how many kva gen set will you recommend ? Thank you.

wow, a 50hp motor

men, hopefully that motor comes with a datasheet(spec-sheet), that provides the LRA (Locked Rotor Amps) needed for initial torquing.

once you have the LRA, you can multiply that by the voltage and power factor ( 0.8 ) to get the appropriate kva gen capacity needed.

CosmeticChemist:
is the "initial current draw" the same as the starting torque" ?

torque is turning force, so it's related but not the same.

the high initial current is needed to torque the compressor from it's still starting point.

perfect Christmas gift

Can anyone who is familiar with solar generated electricity educate us with the following:

-Initial costs e.g. for a 2 bedroom flat with 3 ACs, double door fridge, TV, Fans, lighting et.c.
-Continuous running costs -i'm assuming they'll need maintenance
-The practicality of using one for years and years

make those 3 acs, one horsepower, inverter type acs (meaning they have VF6Ds for compressor control)

don't put a regular ac on ur inverter, unless of course you have a big inverter that can handle the HUGE initial current draw from regular acs, which sometimes is up to 10 times running current.

with that in mind, ur installation would be expensive but not too bad.

Nice write up , a strong point for use of solar power. It has largely remained an untapped and readily available source of power in Nigeria. Come to the north and you would find sufficient land for enough panels to power the north. Add that to 9months of intense sunlight, and we are well on our way to solving our power needs.
However for home panels, there are some limitations :
> cost of installation
> It barely would power my pressing iron or electric cooker, why then would I spend soo much to install solar panels if I still have to be connected to the grid for some heavy appliances?
> During the peak of the rains or harmattan, I would still need to switch to the grid or run my generating set.

why can't u power your pressing iron with solar??

Na so, they tend make its importation so difficult with high custom duty fee, when Kenyan government is trying hard to see all its citizens owning theirs our government want its citizen to hang in the dark so that when a white man viewed Africa, expecially Nigeria from space in his little space-craft he'll have some thing to laugh about a dark nation with darkness every were. well the solar panel can last you 20-25years depending of type and price.

lol @ the darkeness from the sky

honestly, I think a government needs to subsidize the panels for the consumers.

forget about petrol subsidy, there should be solar subsidy.

as you said, they last for 20-25 years, so it makes sense to subsidize it, as opposed to subsidizing petrol that just burns away in an instant, sigh

even if it's 10% off.

later they can build smart grids that enable consumers to sell their excess power.

Imagine if I go on vacation for 2 months and i have an empty house with a 2kw solar installation just wasting away. Wouldn't it be smart to sell that back to the grid, so that my neighbor without solar can maybe benefit from that 2kw worth of power?

sigh

so I hope no more excuses from now

and please fix the exchange rate

Stable or not, my dream is to buy and set my own Solar plan to serve my energy needs. Lets go renewable and forget the woes of gas pipe bombing by our niger deltan brothers Vs PHCN abi na DISCO excuses, no wonder the Kind Disco-light we're getting this days no get part two.

WORD!!

Solar is the way to go, just that it's expensive compared to initial price of purchasing a generator set for the same power capacity.

...but you just can't beat that CONSTANT supply of electricity once you have it. it's a thing of beauty

Is the game hackable? Can you swap with PS3 SuperSlim and i add some cash?

bruh! just wanna get the cash

I really don't know if it's hackable, I don't hack my consoles at all, maybe ps1 sha but not ps3. I heard when you hack a PS3, you can't go online anymore. In this day of cheaper data, you want to me playing online men, against world wide competition.

Pics

i lost my camera phone and don't have a spare camera anywhere for now.

I may end up removing this thread later and replacing it with one that has pics if i can borrow a camera this weekend.

However, ppl interested are welcome to inspect it at my office in Lekki Phase 1 where you can power it on, test the games, test the hardware, test the internet and online settings and so on. Or one can meet up at the Palms mall (shoprite) to inspect it, but no testing can be done there since no tv, power.
