Nairaland GeneralSapele Was Never An Okpe Community, Says Uduaghan by NwaorguF(op): 8:45pm On Jan 05
.....Insists PPL 220 land belongs to Abigborodo Community

.....Tackles Udogun Okpe, Sapele Okpe Community leaders

The Alema of Warri, Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, has asserted that all the demands of the Orodje in Council should be discountenanced as the said claims are unfounded in historical facts and law.

“The land where PPL 220 is situated belongs to Abigborodo Community.’’

He also stated that Ajaji, Ugwo, Ajimele, Aji-Dore, Obotie and Irakpa are Itsekiri communities.

“The only existing communities known in Sapele from time immemorial are all Itsekiri communities. Sapele was never an Okpe Community. Rather it was Okpe people who came from Orerokpe to trade with the Itsekiris in Sapele Town. This position is further corroborated by the Intelligence Report of the colonial authority as far back as 1930 on the Ukpe Sobo Clan, wherein they listed all Okpe villages, sub-clans and communities. The notable Okpe villages listed in the Report of L. E. H Fellows on the Ukpe Sobo Clan were Amukpe, Elume, Oorerokpe and Gbukurusu which are all far away from Sapele.”

Uduaghan in a response to the protest by the Udogun Okpe (Orodje in Council) on the Environmental Impact Assessment for the proposed Abigborodo Field in PPL 220 stated that the Udogun Okpe was never at any time during the colonial era in charge of the administration of the Ukpe Sobo Forest Reserve when the colonial authority wanted to create the said Forest Reserve.

“The Udogun Okpe in 1931 wrote to the said authority, clearly stating that they the Okpe people had no available land to form part of the constitution of the proposed Forest Reserve.”

Uduaghan while urging the public to visit www.abigborodocommunitydeltastate.ng for all the certified documents said at the time Ukpe Sobo Forest Reserve was to be constituted, the representative of the Olu of Warri vide a letter dated 11th of July, 1932 wrote the colonial masters informing them that the said land used in constituting the Okpe Sobo Forest Reserve belongs to the Itsekiri Nation and therefore asked the colonial authority to cancel the constitution of the Okpe Sobo Forest Reserve.

“Despite the letter by the representative of the Olu of Warri asking the colonial authority to cancel the constitution of the Ukpe Sobo Forest Reserve, the colonial authority went ahead to constitute same.”

The Warri High Chief said at the time Forest Reserve was constituted by the colonial authority, Abigborodo indigenes and their tenants were still farming inside the constituted Ukpe Sobo Forest Reserve, which resulted in the arrest of Abigborodo indigenes who were charged before the Magistrate Court at Sapele on the 27th day of March 1940 and presided by His Worship A. V. Scallon ESQ.

“The Magistrate (Limited Powers) discharged and acquitted Abigborodo indigenes on the ground that Abigborodo Community are the owners of the said land and therefore had the right to farm on the said land.”

He disclosed that the then Head of Abigborodo, Alema Okonedo caused a letter/petition to be written to the Governor General against the inclusion of Abigborodo Community lands that traverse through Ugbekoko, Utonyatsere, Ogorode and hole in the creeks without the authority and consent of the Abigborodo Community.

“Consequent upon the petition written by Alema Okonedo, the colonial masters acknowledged the petition of Alema Okonedo and promised to look into the claims of Alema Okonedo.”

Uduaghan stated that upon the conclusion of investigation by the Conservator of Forest, Ubiaja Circle, who was directed by the Governor General to investigate the claims of Alema Okonedo, a Report was issued by the Governor General through the Office of the Secretary to the Government wherein the claims of Alema Okonedo were found to true and substantiated.

“It is my submission that when the claims of Alema Okonedo were found to be true and substantiated by the colonial authority, a sketch map was produced by the colonial authority showing the areas/land belonging to Abigborodo Community in the Ukpe Sobo Forest Reserve.”

As a follow up to the report by the colonial authority which found the claims of Alema Okonedo to be true and substantiated, Uduaghan said a memorandum was published by the colonial authority wherein the Ugbekoko areas belonging to Abigborodo community was recommended for de-reservation and excluded from the Ukpe Sobo Forest Reserve and be returned to the people of Abigborodo Community.

“As a follow up to the memorandum by the colonial authority, minutes of instruction from the Forest Department of Ubiaja to the conservator, South Central Circle, duly signed by C. A Walker, a proposal was made for the reconstitution of the Forest Reserve and how to carry out the excisions recommended in the memorandum.”

Sequel to the minute of instruction by the colonial authority, Uduaghan revealed that an order was made under the Forest Ordinance (CAP 75) known as the Western Forest Reserve, wherein Order 33 of 1933 was further revised and modified by revoking the first and second schedule thereto and substituted same with the Edict of 1952, wherein the size and boundaries of the excised and de-reserved land belonging to Abigborodo Community was clearly shown and described particularly.

In 1996, the Delta State Government via its official Gazette further released additional 200 acres of land to the already existing enclave of Ugbekoko and Utonyatsere belonging to Abigborodo Community.

He called the Okpe people land grabbers.

“When land grabbers of Okpe extraction were encroaching on Abigborodo, Ugbekoko and Utonyatsere lands and selling them off to unsuspecting members of the public, as the defender and custodian of those lands belonging to Abigborodo Community under the over lordship of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 111, I caused a petition to be written to the Nigeria Police Force which investigated the said petition and found that there was probable cause that certain laws had been violated by some land grabbers of Okpe extraction and the police gave their findings vide a Police Investigation Report.”

He recalled how former Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa directed the Ministry of Lands, Delta State to investigate the claim of encroachment by the Okpe people on Abigborodo Community lands.

“The Ministry of Lands set up a three man committee which investigated Abigborodo Community claims and came out with a report substantiating the fact that Abigborodo Community Land of Ugbekoko and Utonyatsere were indeed encroached upon by Okpe Community.”

He said the judicial enquiry set up to look into the Ukpe Sobo Forest Reserve came up with a white paper further buttressing that Ugbekoko, Utonyatsere and all adjacent lands in the Ukpe Sobo Forest Reserve belong to Abigborodo Community.

“It is not stated anywhere in the Judicial Panel of Enquiry’s Report issued by the Delta State Government with regards to Ukpe Sobo Forest Reserve that Abigborodo Community is separated from the said Reserve by the natural boundary of Hole in the Creek (Benin River). Abigborodo Township is in Warri North Local Government. However, Abigborodo Community land stretches and traverses into Sapele Local Government Area which has been substantiated by various documents from the colonial records.”

He emphasized the development effort of former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.

“The claim of the Udogun Okpe of magnanimously allowing the Former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan to construct a bridge to link Abigborodo with Sapele is offensive and it shows that the Udogun Okpe is not conversant with the with the provisions of the Land Use Act.”

Uduaghan who is the administrator of Abigborodo, Ugbekoko and Utonyatsere, said in Suit No. 5/23/74 Washi Ogodo & Sapele Okpe Communal Land trustees & 2 ORS, the court held that there is nothing like Sapele Okpe Community Lands.

“The erroneous belief of the Udogun Okpe and by extension the Okpe people that because Abigborodo’s Community land and some Itsekiri land are in Sapele Local Government, Okpe Kingdom owns such land is huge fallacy. Local Government Areas are political creations of Government for administrative convenience and does not in any way confer ownership of the land under reference on Okpe people. Sapele is largely Itsekiri owned and this has been shown by various documents from colonial records available at the National Archives, Ibadan.”

He said the area serving as host to the Abigborodo Field in PPL 220 was commissioned by Chevron Nigeria Limited

“It was Chevon Nigeria Limited that named the said Abigborodo Field in PPL 220, having done their investigations and found out that Abigborodo Community are the true owners of the said land and consequently recognized Abigborodo Community as the host community.”

“Abigborodo Community is a peaceful community and is ready to make sure that the operations of Navante Exploration and Production Limited are seamless and without issues” he added

Nairaland GeneralOkpe Union Rebukes Urhobo Leaders, Lists Priorities by NwaorguF(op): 7:50pm On Jan 02
The Okpe Union has expressed concern over the nefarious activities of some elements of the Itsekiri and Urhobo nationalities.

“Some elements of the Itsekiri and Urhobo nationalities continue to constitute irritants to the Okpẹ Nation. The Urhobo via their nefarious WADO activities claim Okpẹ territories. We vehemently reject this as Okpẹ is not Urhobo and neither are we an appendage of any ethnic nationality.”

The union also stressed its historical mission of facilitating the independence of Okpẹ Nation.

“We shall continue to encourage the use of Okpẹ Language in worship and the translation of Church sermons. We shall use the Okpẹ language to enhance the Okpẹ identity and development strategy of Okpẹ Nation. We shall continue to intensify our strategic collaboration with other Okpẹ organizations, as well as with other ethnic nationalities in Delta State and Nigeria, in the realization of this noble historical imperative.”

The union in a New Year message to the public stressed the need for prominent Nigerians to be thorough and be armed with correct facts in the area of Okpe history, language and culture.

“While we reiterate our profound reverence for the Okpẹ Throne, we remain resolute in our defence of democratic tenets and good governance in Okpẹ Nation. We also reiterate our firm view that Okpẹ Kingdom is not an absolute monarchy where a monarch’s pronouncements are considered “final” even when they violate basic democratic norms. We recognize that to toe the path of truth is a difficult choice that only a small minority with sound social consciousness can embark on. Truth can be suppressed but can never be imprisoned.”

The message delivered by the President General of Okpe Union Worldwide, Prof Igho Natufe emphasized the strategic approach to position Okpẹ stakeholders in the pursuit of the recognition of Okpẹ as a distinct ethnic nationality in Delta State.

“This objective remains an existential challenge of the Okpẹ Nation which Okpẹ Union was established to attain. We shall intensify our collaboration with internal and external forces for a better appreciation of the benefits of Okpẹ Identity to all parties, including the Urhobo. The two local government councils in Okpẹ Nation, Sapele LGC and Okpẹ LGC, shall be encouraged to play a pivotal role in the Redemption of the Okpẹ Nation.”

The union called for cooperation and unity to enhance economic development of Okpẹ Nation.

BusinessTincan Customs Surpasses N1.52 Trillion 2025 Revenue Target, Generates In N1.57 by NwaorguF(op): 2:44pm On Dec 25, 2025
The Tincan Island Port Command of Nigeria Customs Service says it has surpassed the revenue target of ₦1,524,669,999,478.52 T assigned to it for the 2025 fiscal year as the command generated a total revenue of ₦1,576,507,651,601.84,T exceeding the annual target by over ₦51,837,652,129.32.B.

This disclosure was made while addressing journalists Tuesday at the Command’s Headquarters Lagos.

Speaking on the development, the Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, described it a milestone that reflected discipline, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty, even as he noted that the revenue growth did not happen by chance but an outcome of deliberate reforms, improved processes, and collective responsibility.

He hinted that major revenue contributors remained bulk cargo, general merchandise, and the importation of used vehicles, which according to him, constituted a significant volume of trade passing through the port.

His words: "Through diligent cargo examination, and strict adherence to customs procedures, the Command ensured that government revenue due on these imports was fully collected. One of our key focus areas in 2025 was the elimination of revenue leakages and operational inefficiencies. We deliberately addressed the issue of multiple and unnecessary alerts, which had previously slowed down clearance processes and created room for abuse."

"By streamlining alerts and strengthening internal coordination, we improved efficiency while maintaining effective control,” Comptroller Onyeka emphasized.

He went further to posit that the command made conscious efforts to create an enabling environment for legitimate trade and to this end, the Command sustained regular and meaningful engagement with stakeholders which included Importers, Licensed Customs Agents, Terminal Operators, and Shipping Companies among others.

He added that beyond Revenue collection, the Command remained firm on its enforcement mandate which was achieved through intelligence-driven operations and vigilant monitoring.

The Tincan customs boss further stated that in the course of the year, the command recorded significant seizures of prohibited and improperly declared goods, including items imported in contravention of existing laws and regulations.

"These seizures are a clear reminder that while we facilitate trade, we will not compromise national security, public safety, or economic integrity."

"Let me state unequivocally that the attainment of our annual revenue target does not in any way signify a relaxation of operational standards or enforcement activities" he reiterated.

However, Comptroller Onyeka vowed, that the Command would not relax its vigilance, even for the remaining part of the year, insisting that all officers and men of the Command remained fully mobilized and operationally focused to sustain revenue generation, intensify compliance enforcement, and ensure that every legitimate collection due to the Federal Government would be assessed, collected, and accounted for.

He expressed his unweaving gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR psc (+) for his exemplary leadership, clear strategic direction, and consistent institutional support to the Command emphasizing that CGC's commitment to professionalism, automation and constructive stakeholder engagement has provided the solid framework upon which the achievements of the Command have been built. "The Command remains firmly guided by his vision and is aligned with the Service reform and modernization agenda."

Compt. Onyeka, therefore applauded stakeholders for their cooperation and improved compliance with customs regulations while appreciating the officers and men of the Command for their continued demonstration of discipline and hard work in the discharge of their duties.

There's no use pretending not to know what's going on within the kitchen cabinet of the President and Grand Leader of the Renewed Hope Agenda which has given birth to the Campaign body- the Renewed Hope Ambassadors. I have tried not to write or speak considering that many on this App are just too biased, yet they still wait for me to drop something.

I was close to the man in the eye of the storm while we both fought for the mandate of Rotimi Amaechi from the build up of the PDP primaries in 2006 to the K-leg saga and subsequent 10-month legal battle in 2007! Until he left as Minister of State, Education, our relationship remained tight. Unfortunately, some friends dived a dagger in the wheel of our friendship.

Many found it strange when I decided to take a walk from the Amaechi political family. Anyway, that's a story for another day, if it is even necessary.

Let’s go to the actual topic for today: When it wasn't fashionable to support Asiwaju’s ambition, Nyesom Wike showed a resilient spirit as he has always been known for. Even though some say it was because he was not picked as Atiku's running mate after his loss at the PDP presidential primaries. Let's continue. While many of today’s "loyalists" were hiding in their shells, afraid to speak up, especially with the issue of Muslim - Muslim ticket and the tag of "Emilokan"( my turn), Wike was in the trenches! He didn't just talk; he walked the walk— rallying the G-5(Five Governors and their followers), funding the movement under the "Enye Nde ebea, Enye Nde ebea"- power rotation and balance and insisting that for the sake of equity, the South must produce the President. Of course, every politician must take advantage of every moment to show strength to win. That Wike did even though it may be against popular opinion.

Fast track to his appointment as FCT Minister, his record speaks for itself—he is a man on a mission to deliver on the Renewed Hope agenda even though he remains a PDP Chieftain. And let's not forget the political masterstroke: the depopulation of the PDP into the APC is largely his handiwork- rightly or wrongly!

To those whispering that Wike should be sidelined for 2027 or after, it is not out of place considering that failure is an orphan but victory has many friends. The Tinubu political family is bigger now but old firewoods still burn better. President Tinubu is a master of the game who knows the value of a battle-tested ally and he knows you don’t discard a General who helped you win the war just to please soldiers who only showed up for the victory parade.

As for the rumours and the political chess which are currently going on in the Villa, it's all part of the game.

Wike isn’t leaving in a hurry because he has a lot of unfinished business beyond the votes of Rivers State. For the first time, the Votes of the FCT will not go to the opposition.

Loyalty not coerced pays, and Jagaban knows this game!

Politics100 Days After: What Has Opobo/nkoro To Show? A Scorecard Of Expectations And Re by NwaorguF(op): 7:07am On Dec 17, 2025
100 Days After: What Has Opobo/Nkoro To Show? A Scorecard of Expectations and Reality

One hundred days in office is widely regarded as a symbolic but important milestone for any public office holder. It offers the first real opportunity for citizens to assess leadership direction, governance style, and the seriousness of campaign promises. For the people of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, the question today is simple and direct: what tangible projects can the Chairman, Barr. James A. James, genuinely boast of after 100 days in office?

This question becomes even more significant given the strategic importance of Opobo/Nkoro. As the Local Government Area of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Opobo/Nkoro is expected to lead by example in grassroots governance, unity of purpose, and visible development. Any sign of drift, silence, or underperformance here sends a troubling signal beyond its borders.

Funds without Footprints:

Local Government Areas receive substantial monthly allocations from the Federation Account, in addition to statutory state support and internally generated revenues. While 100 days may be too short to complete major capital-intensive projects, it is more than enough time to initiate, flag off, or visibly commence people-oriented interventions.

Ordinarily, Citizens Would Expect To See:

Clearly identified and ongoing infrastructure projects such as road grading, drainage rehabilitation, or market upgrades.

Functional health or education interventions, including renovation of primary health centres or schools.

Youth and women empowerment programmes, skills acquisition initiatives, or SME support schemes.

Environmental sanitation drives and community-focused public works.

Transparent communication outlining achievements, challenges and plans.

Yet, many residents continue to ask: where are the visible signs of governance?

Leadership without Consultation

Beyond projects, governance is also about process and inclusion. There have been growing concerns about an apparent disconnect between the Chairman and key stakeholders within the LGA, councilors, party leaders, appointees, and community figures. Effective local governance thrives on consultation, consensus-building, and shared ownership of development goals. A leadership style perceived as solitary or closed risks alienating stakeholders and slowing progress.

In a local government that should exemplify harmony and coordination, internal divisions or silence are particularly troubling.

The Cost of Silence

Another missing link in the first 100 days has been public accountability. Citizens deserve to be informed. Even where projects are at planning or procurement stages, clear communication helps build trust. Silence, on the other hand, fuels speculation, dissatisfaction, and the perception of inactivity.

A simple 100-day scorecard, outlining achievements, expenditures, and immediate plans, would have gone a long way in reassuring the people that governance is on course.

The Road Ahead

The 100-day mark should not be seen as a final verdict, but it is certainly an early warning indicator. Barr. James A. James still has ample time to reset priorities, open channels of engagement, and align his administration with the expectations of the people.

Opobo/Nkoro deserves proactive leadership, visible development, and inclusive governance. As the LGA of the sitting governor, it must not become a reference point for missed opportunities or unfulfilled expectations. Rather, it should stand as a model of what effective grassroots governance looks like.

The coming months will therefore be decisive. The people are watching, expectations remain high, and history will ultimately record not intentions, but results.

Nairaland GeneralOkpe Leaders Oppose Delta Monarch by NwaorguF(op): 8:47am On Dec 08, 2025
Top Okpe leaders on Sunday kicked against the narrative of Okpe as Urhobo, listing the errors in Orodje's recent declaration.

“At its meeting on November 15, 2025, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Okpe Union (Worldwide) exhaustively discussed Orodje's declaration. Relying on historical facts in debunking the grave errors in the Orodje’s declaration, the union provided the evolution of the Orodje’s disturbing flip-flop of policy pronouncements, a flip-flop which falsifies Okpe History and exposes Orhue l as an enemy of the Okpe Kingdom whose national interests he swore to promote and defend when he was crown as the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom on July 29, 2006.”

In the response to the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom by the National Executive Council of the Okpe Union (Worldwide), the union narrated how His Royal Majesty began to move away from his role as the chief promoter and defender of Okpe Identity in favour of his personal aggrandizement.

“He cautioned the then NEC of the Okpe Union (Worldwide) to stop the agitation for the recognition of Okpe as a distinct ethnic nationality, because, according to him, the advocacy will diminish his chances of becoming the Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers’ Council. That notwithstanding, the Orodje was trying to walk on both sides of the street at the same time by internally espousing Okpe as a distinct ethnic nationality while externally he was collaborating with the anti-Okpe Identity forces to undermine the internal cohesion of the Okpe Nation.”

The union accused Orodje of sacrificing Okpe national interest for a pot of Ukodo prepared by his political masters ahead of the 2027 elections.

“This is political correctness gone awry. The Okpe Union, and indeed all sons and daughters of Okpeland, are greatly distressed by the video of HRM Orhue l making rounds about our identity. As proud children of Okpe, we have access to several literatures and ancestral information about our origin which has never been disputed by the Orodje who is the traditional ruler as at today. Perhaps he is in possession of new facts and documents which have altered our ancestry. The time to produce it is now. It is highly regrettable that our revered Traditional ruler would grant such weighty interviews about the core of our existence without presenting facts and references.”

The union denounced Orodje’s declaration, which undermines the rich cultural heritage and dignity of the Okpe people.

“As the mouth-piece of the Okpe Nation, the Okpe Union rejects the Orodje's de-marketing of our ethnic nationality and asserts our pride in our identity, culture, and sovereignty. While we sympathize with various political actors who in a bid to score political mileage have been manipulating ethnic boundaries for political gains, we cannot comprehend how the custodian of our rites and traditions will join the fray. Several monarchs have betrayed their respective countries. Why did Orodje shift from his strong position as a promoter of Okpe as a distinct ethnic nationality that he brilliantly articulated on September 1, 2007, to become a shameless apologist for Urhobo ethnic nationality? Historians will compare the declaration of Orhue l and the dictatorship of Esezi l, to determine which of the two is more injurious to the Okpe Nation.”

The union called on members of the Okpe Union (Worldwide), and indeed all Okpe sons and daughters to remain united under the umbrella of the Okpe Union in the continued advocacy for the recognition of Okpe as a distinct ethnic nationality.

“The struggle is going to be long and difficult, but the redemption of the Okpe Nation is worth the battle. A kingdom exists because there was a Nation that produced it. Thus, a king or an Orodje cannot be superior to the Nation that birthed it. This is particularly true of the Okpe Kingdom where the Okpe Nation congregates to elect one of its male citizens as the Orodje via a democratic electoral process. The sovereignty of an Orodje does not grant him an absolute or dictatorial power or authority, but is derived from the results of the electoral process on behalf of the Okpe Nation. When the four princely brothers, our ancestors – Orhue, Orhoro, Evbreke, and Esezi – decided to establish the Okpe Kingdom, they did so from the bowel of the Okpe Nation. Thanks to the Okpe Union, the Okpe Kingdom in the modern era was resuscitated in 1945 after an interregnum of 166 years. During this period, there were no Orodjes because there was no kingdom, but the Okpe Nation continued to exist and was represented by power brokers in several Okpe communities that exercised independence and sovereignty. It is therefore our historical and sacred responsibility, as members of the Okpe Union, to ensure that the Okpe monarchy remains a symbol of unity and strength of the Okpe Nation, and not to degenerate into anarchy and dictatorship.

The statement signed by Prof. O. Igho Natufe, President General, Okpe Union (Worldwide), Barrister Kingsley Ehensiri Akpederin, General Secretary, Okpe Union (Worldwide) and Barrister Victor Oruno, National Publicity Secretary, Okpe Union (Worldwide) recalled a study initiated and financed by HRM Orhue l, where Udogun Okpe stated emphatically that “Okpe is indubitably known to be a distinct and autonomous Kingdom, an ethnic entity from its beginning.

“The people and their language are distinct and are named after their progenitor, Okpe, whose four sons founded the present day Okpe Kingdom. But externally, simultaneously, the Orodje’s emissaries, mostly Palace Chiefs, continued their anti-Okpe Identity narratives by their false claim that “Okpe is Urhobo”. The Orodje’s declaration that “Okpe is a dialect of Urhobo” lends credence to the statements of his emissaries that “Okpe is Urhobo”. From all available historical sources, Okpe is a distinct language from the Urhobo language. The Orodje’s declaration is not only a blatant distortion of Okpe History, but a shameless public denial of Okpe Identity. History will Judge if this seismic shift was influenced by the Orodje’s personal interest or by Okpe national interest’’.

On November 5, 2025, an undated video of HRM Orhue l, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, appeared on several Okpe platforms, as well as on some non-Okpe platforms. In the video Orhue l categorically declared that “Okpe is a dialect of the Urhobo” and therefore not a distinct ethnic nationality. This declaration injected another level of schism between the Okpe Union and HRM Orhue l. We consider this declaration a falsity by a Monarch who is supposed to know the truth.

The Union highlighted the three main migratory waves from Benin Kingdom to the present territory of Delta Central Senatorial District in the Ogiso period of Benin Monarchy.

“The first was in the 1170s under the reign of the 1st Oba of Benin, Oba Oronmiyan (1170 – 1200 AD) that saw the settlement of a group known as “Usobo” (Urhobo) in Ughelli and other villages. The second wave was the last Usobo migration that settled in contemporary Abraka in the 1370s, under the reign of the 10th Oba of Benin, Oba Ogbeka (1370 – 1400 AD). The migration of Okpe from Benin Kingdom occurred during the reign of the 16th Oba of Benin, Oba Ozolua (1483 – 1504 AD). Oba Ozolua conquered several territories, including Ijebu Ode, Ondo, and towns in contemporary Edo State. For his unprecedented military conquests in Benin History, he earned the appellation “Ozolua, n’ ibaromi” meaning “Ozolua the Conqueror”. He had several sons, including Prince Eze of Aboh, and Prince Igboze that migrated to contemporary Delta Central Senatorial District in 1550, and whose son, Prince Okpe had four princely sons: Orhue, Orhoro, Evbreke, and Esezi. They resided individually and collectively in several villages, moving from Olomu to Okperikpere (Okpe Isoko) and through contemporary Ozoro en-route to Orerokpe. It is instructive to note that, when the Four Princely Brothers, our forefathers founded the Okpe Kingdom with its headquarters in Orerokpe, it was established as an independent ethnic nationality and not as a clan or an appendage of any other ethnic nationality. This historical fact underlines the distinct ethnic nationality of the Okpe of Delta State which was extinguished by the British Colonial Office.”

For purely its administrative convenience, the Union said the British Colonial Office fused diverse ethnic nationalities into one.

“This British policy gave rise to the falsity of classifying Okpe as a clan of Urhobo. Most contemporary Okpe were born and raised in this falsity.

“By administering the Okpe under the Urhobo umbrella, the British set in motion a process that led to the gradual but systematic attempt to deny Okpe ethnicity which was erroneously subsumed under the Urhobo. Over time, this grave error of British colonialism assumed a “truth” of its own as the outside world and several Okpe began to refer to the Okpe as “Urhobo.” This falsity was inherited by post-colonial Nigerian governments. A similar fate befell the Isoko of “Eastern Urhobo.” However, unlike the Okpe, their western counterpart, the Isokos were able to extricate themselves from the Urhobo appellation and restored their independence as a distinct ethnic nationality. Okpe and Urhobo do not share a common ancestry, or a common language. The Urhobo argument that Okpe is “Urhobo” is anchored on the concept of transferred colonialism from British rule to Urhobo rule in post-colonial Nigeria. This diabolical plot is facilitated by internal fifth columnists that, in most cases, have an Urhobo parent and therefore posit that “Okpe is Urhobo.”

The Union also underscored a growing realization among leading Okpe personalities to follow the Isoko example.

“Two subjective factors seem to conspire against this legitimate proposition. First, the Urhobo argument is that Okpe will be weakening the Urhobo nation if they emulate Isoko. Second, some Okpe, after being assimilated into the Urhobo fabric as a consequence of flawed colonial policy, seem conditioned to accept Urhobo as their nationality. Both viewpoints are based on weak and false argumentations. To endorse either is to condone the denial of Okpe nationality. And to suggest that by upholding their nationality the Okpe will weaken the Urhobo nation, we are invited to accept the lie that “Okpe is Urhobo”. On the contrary, the extrication of Okpe from Urhobo will strengthen the independence of both ethnic nationalities. They each need to re-define their respective identities’’.

The union said the uniqueness of the Okpe Nation was that each Okpe national is a descendant of one or two of the four ruling houses of the Okpe Kingdom, as depicted in the genealogy of the Okpe people: Orhue, Orhoro, Evbreke, and Esezi.

“Thus, the Okpe ethnicity satisfies all the properties of statehood and nationality as the nationals share the same common ancestry, the same language, culture, and traditions. The Okpe Kingdom has a clearly defined territory under a single monarchy and a permanent population of Okpe ethnicity. In fact, Okpe is one of the few ethnic nationalities in Nigeria that possess these clearly defined properties. The others are, inter alia, in alphabetical order, Benin, Nupe, and Itsekiri, etc.”

Major General Felix Mujakperuo (RTD) was crown as HRM Orhue l, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom on July 29, 2006; after a 2-year interregnum. He immediately positioned himself as the chief advocate of Okpe as a distinct ethnic nationality. Not only did he and several Okpe chiefs participate actively in the deliberations of the 1st Okpe Voice World Conference held in Sapele, October 17 – 18, 2006, he hosted a delegation of Okpe leaders drawn from the Okpe Union Nigeria, the Okpe Union of North America (OUNA), and the Okpe Union UK, under the auspices of the OKPE VOICE, at the Palace, on October 20, 2006, to review and approve the resolutions and communiqué of the Conference. The communiqué included, the recognition of Okpe as a distinct ethnic nationality, the establishment of an all Okpe federal constituency, the teaching of Okpe language in all primary and secondary schools in Okpe Nation, etc.

HRM Orhue l delivered a powerful landmark address entitled Tradition and Governance in the Okpe Kingdom: A Keynote Address, on September 1, 2007 At The 3rd Annual Convention Of The Okpe Union Of North America Held At Marriott Hotel, College Park, Maryland, Usa August 31 – September 03, 2007. This was a defining moment in the struggle for the recognition of Okpe as a distinct ethnic nationality.

The Orodje succinctly declared: “Okpe is a unique ethnic nationality. It has distinctive roots in ancient history, tradition, culture, customs and language.”

He added: “Our people are rooted in migration from the Bini Kingdom. This historical experience is similar to most other ethnic nationalities of the Western Niger Delta. Of all these nationalities however, Okpe History, language, tradition, and culture are closer to those of Bini which form part of the Edo group of languages”.

Orhue l endorsed the conclusions of R. E. Bradbury and Rev. Dr. Charles E. Osume, (The Okpe People, 2006 edition), about the origin of the Okpe, he classified Okpe as “a unique ethnic nationality” with “distinctive roots in ancient history, tradition, culture, customs and language” irrespective of its similarity “to most other ethnic nationalities of the Western Niger Delta”.

Regarding the wrongful excision of Okpe territory from the Okpe Kingdom, HRM Orhue l was very categorical in expressing the position of the Okpe on this issue. He averred: “Let me also mention briefly that although the Okpe Kingdom covers the two local government areas of Sapele and Okpe, our people and communities are located in towns and villages presently and wrongly included in some neighbouring local government areas, for example, Ohorhe in Uvwie Local Government”.

In the keynote address, HRM Orhue l positioned himself as the chief promoter and defender of Okpe national interest. He subsequently established an Udogun Okpe Education Committee to liaise with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) to ensure the recognition of Okpe Language as a teaching subject in Okpe Nation.

His research work has been instrumental to the advancement of knowledge in health and nutritional sciences, and his academic excellence and leadership have earned him several professional honors.

A member of numerous national and international academic bodies and a reviewer and editorial board member for several scientific journals, Professor Asagba since assuming office as Vice Chancellor of Delsu has emphasized innovation, gender equity, research-driven education, university industry collaboration, Infrastructure development and digital transformation.

Prof. Asagba's achievements extend to creating three new faculties overall; Environmental Sciences, Computing, and Allied Health Sciences fostering a more dynamic and interdisciplinary academic environment.

Infrastructure development stands as a cornerstone of his administration. Key projects include the construction of an access road linking the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) and the Faculty of Arts. The ongoing construction of the Faculty of Agriculture building addresses long-standing challenges.

Since relocating from Asaba, the faculty has relied on the old College of Education structure. “We have started the Faculty of Agriculture structure,” Prof. Asagba noted. “As more money comes in, I hope to finish it within two months. It's a complex of two- or three-story buildings.”

Other vital upgrades include the reconstruction of an abandoned 500-capacity lecture theatre; renovation of the 750-capacity Lecture Halls A, B, C, and D, and refurbishment of the old Faculty of Pharmacy building.

At the Faculty of Clinical Sciences in Oghara, lecture halls have been renovated alongside the installation of fibre optic internet and a robust 24-hour server room to enhance research connectivity.

Additionally, there has been procurement of office equipment and furniture for the current accreditation exercise, ensuring seamless operations across lecture halls and administrative offices. His tenure so far has been marked with efforts to deepen Delsu’s global partnerships while improving internal systems, staff welfare, and student development.

Asagba is also known for his meticulous planning. Those who have worked with him echo his reputation for reading memos word by word—ensuring every line counts. This is not just a formality; it's the mark of a leader committed to effective administration.

As Professor Samuel Asagba marks his first year in office, he continues to represent the pinnacle of intellectual brilliance, visionary leadership, and gender progress in Nigeria's academic space.

Nairaland GeneralGovernors, Due Process And Demolition In Nigeria by NwaorguF(op): 4:39am On Nov 24, 2025
For democracy to work, citizens must be enlightened. The issue is not about demolition. I am against demolitions. Nearly all the governors in Nigeria are guilty of that because they do it without due process.

To demolish the abode of a person, the government must go to court and obtain a judgement before carrying out any demolition. The governors have been very lawless. The unfortunate thing is that no one has gone to court to challenge these illegal acts. Apart from citizen apathy, the Land Use Decree of 1978 gave unchecked powers to do as they wish with the land that belongs to the people. The governors have unchecked powers in this regard.

This is a military decree that have not been reviewed by the lawmakers because it benefits them as they use their positions and relationship to acquire choice lands in Nigeria.

The process of acquiring land in Nigeria is so opaque that only well connected people can authenticate their property. In a functioning democracy, a law like this should never exist. No elected person should have unchecked powers. All over Nigeria, the governors are abusing this power.

Part of the unrest in the North can be linked to this abuse of process by these governors who are using their powers to take land from indigenous people. The Land Use Decree gave the governors the hammer and the nails, and the governors have been hammering away carelessly.

No one should have unchecked powers in a democracy. That law came from the military which I have written about extensively.

In a democracy, no one should be given power without checks and balances. No one is coming to save us. We must address these issues under our system of democracy by electing people who will be subject to the will of the people.

As it is right now, a lot of elected politicians are behaving like military dictators because that is all they know and the citizens are apathetic and have been made to feel that the abuse in the hands of elected officials is normal. This is a result of military induced cognitive dissonance and lack of political education.

The soldiers are not the answer to our present malady. They created the problem.

To correct a mistake, you have to rise above the level of understanding where the mistake was made. The Nigerian soldier can never be the solution because they created the sclerosis that is undermining our political process. The answer to problems in a democracy is more democracy, not military coups.

Military coups put the citizens in a state of arrested development. That is what we are experiencing now. If we trust the process, we will find the answers. This issue is not about Wike. It is about due process. You will lose the road if you focus on the mirage.

The Eastern Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says it has strengthened its enforcement operations and collaboration efforts as Comptroller AB JAJA on 13 November 2025 undertook a series of strategic engagements and on-the-spot inspections across the Oron and Calabar maritime corridors.

This disclosure was contained in a press release issued, signed and made available to media platforms by the Command's Public Relations officer, Emmanuel Tangwa, a chief Superintendent of Customs, on Monday in Port Harcourt the Rivers state Capital.

The statement noted that at the Oron Outstation in Akwa Ibom State, Comptroller AB JAJA showcased several seizures made by operatives of the Command across different locations and times within the Area of Responsibility (AOR).

The seized items, according to him, include: Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) = 3,750 litres, Several cartons of assorted pharmaceuticals of various brands with a Total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N12,049,612 only.

Others were, Two large sacks of wildlife (endangered species) parts, including chimpanzee heads, parrots, and helmeted hornbill parts in violation of CITES regulations.

According to the statement, the the items have already been deposited in the Government Warehouse in Calabar.

Speaking at the showcasing of the seized items, Comptroller JAJA commended the vigilance of his officers and the intelligence-sharing support of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibaka, stressing that such collaborations have continued to yield positive enforcement results.

However, the Eastern Marine Customs boss therefore warned maritime stakeholders to desist from all forms of illegal importation or exportation, noting that officers of the Command remained fully alert to counter all acts of smuggling and economic sabotage.

On wildlife, Comptroller JAJA sternly warned all the stakeholders against trading in or transporting wildlife and endangered species saying "Anyone caught will face prosecution, as we already have offenders in custody ready to be charged to court. Sadly, some of them are women," he emphasized.

He further cautioned that passengers found aboard any boat conveying wildlife parts are equally liable and would be treated as offenders under national and international laws.

On Multi-Agency Fight Against Illegal Wildlife Trade, the Comptroller reiterated that the fight against Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) is a multi-agency national effort, coordinated by the Nigeria Customs Service in partnership with environmental agencies and security organisations in line with local laws and global conventions such as Convention on Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora( CITES).

“Nigeria stands tall in the fight against trade in endangered species, thanks to the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service,” he added.

Commenting on the fight against Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) Smuggling and the one seized, Comptroller JAJA described the act as economic sabotage, insisting that the Command would not tolerate any attempt to smuggle petroleum products out of the country even as he highlighted the economic consequences of PMS smuggling and cautioned perpetrators to desist or face the full weight of the law.

The statement went further to inform that the seized Pharmaceutical and some expired ones including all illegally imported items were handed over to the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Mr. John Naeche by the Comptroller, who noted that the action aligned with the collaborative mantra of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, PhD, fnipr, psc (+), particularly as it concerned synergy with relevant agencies.

Applauding the CAC, Eastern Marine Command, the NAFDAC State Coordinator commended the Eastern Marine Command for the seizures and for the handover in accordance with regulatory procedures.

He then assured that NAFDAC would notify the Nigeria Customs Service of the scheduled date and location for the lawful destruction of the seized items.

Mr. Naeche also congratulated the CGC on his recent professional accomplishments and thanked Comptroller JAJA for deepening inter-agency cooperation.

On Stakeholder Engagement and Visit to Calabar Outstation, the statement stated that earlier that day, the CAC held meeting with maritime stakeholders in the Oron waterways, sensitizing them on the CGC’s mantra of collaboration, compliance, and shared responsibility.

Comptroller JAJA then preceded by water to Calabar, where he inspected the Command’s Outstation Jetty before visiting the Customs Area Controller of Cross River/FTZA/Akwa Ibom Command, Comptroller CG OGBONNA and both Controllers discussed strategies to enhance synergy between the Commands for overall operational effectiveness.

Comptroller AB JAJA reaffirmed that the EMC remains committed to ensuring that the nation's waterways are not only safe but free from all forms of illegalities in the Oron- Calabar axis.

He encouraged stakeholders to support lawful trade, respect regulatory frameworks and partner with the NCS for the advancement of national security and economic integrity.

CrimePolitical 'frat War' Behind Attack On Lt. Yerima?, Publisher Obiaruko Warns Foes by NwaorguF(op): 12:38pm On Nov 17, 2025
The publisher of the Beam News Magazine and President of a nongovernmental advocacy organization – Citizens Quest for Truth Initiative, Chief Christie Obiaruko Ndukwe has opined that the assassination attempt on Lieutenant Yerima may not be unconnected to the foes of Minister Wike who want to use the recent faceoff he had with the lieutenant to impute it on him

Chief Obiaruko related that, “A student who belonged to a particular frat had a problem with a lecturer who caught him in exam malpractice. The student was asked to sign an undertaking that nothing would happen to the lecturer. He did and that's where the problem started! It became his responsibility to protect the lecturer from any attack. Why? Just wait for the reason.”

“His rival frat group could attack the lecturer just to rope him in! So, he was in a dilemma until he graduated and left”, she said

According to her, “Now, see this one. The young Lieutenant who went viral for sticking to the orders of his superior, a three-star General and a retired Service Chief and engaged the Minister of the FCT politely but firmly, is reported to have escaped assassination in Abuja, a few days after the incident.”

Obiaruko who was reacting to the recent assassination attempt on Lieutenant Yerima’s life via her Facebook page noted that, “It was expected! Yes, I said so. But why? Because the Minister is in the eye of the storm! The PDP crisis and the Abuja land controversies. Some are recent issues while some are old political foes. Someone who is thinking like the rival frat group in the story above MAY have chosen to do dirty and let it rob off on Wike. Yes, you heard me! Especially when very many people have an impression of him.”

“Whatever be the public perception, I know Wike very well even more than those who claim to be close to him. He would never do anything stewpid as attempting to take Lt Yerima out! He would rather avoid the Army or find his way to resolve the issue with the retired Naval Chief.
But what Wike would fail to do is to provide protection for Yerima. He may not have the wisdom like the student above to do the needful”, she said

“Maybe just maybe if he had tendered a public apology to the President and C-in-C, the Military, and Nigerians in that Press Conference, his traducers and rivals may not have attempted to take out Yerima. Sometimes in leadership, wisdom has to prevail over impulse and retreat over ego. Time to reflect! I still maintain: Dead men have no right!” she declared.

BusinessCan't Fight Federal Government Policy, Maritime Workers Union Chief, Comrade Ugw by NwaorguF(op): 10:11am On Nov 14, 2025
The executive chairman, Haulage District of Maritime works uniform of Nigeria (MWUN) Eastern ports, Comrade Ugwu Adolphus says there is no amount of intimidation, blackmail or name -calling that would make him fight the federal government policy of Electronic Truck call -up system otherwise known as E- call up at Onne Port.

Ugwu was reacting to a recent protest embarked upon by some truck drivers under the aegis of Active Containers and Cargo Truck drivers Association of Nigeria who on Tuesday staged a protest at Onne saying they were no longer members of Maritime workers Union haulage District unit Eastern Port citing extortion, lack of warfare and multiple taxation among others.

Comrade Ugwu said that trouble started when some disgruntled and power- seeking members of Maritime Workers Union haulage unit felt they had lost out in their quest to force him to continue fighting against the government policy implementation of the E- Call system at Onne Port.

He added, "when the issue of E- Call up started, we made our positions known to the Nigeria Ports Authority especially informing them that there was no need for the system at Onne because of the peculiar nature of Onne especially as the E-call Up was to stem Congestions at the Port and there was no such problem here"

He continued, "But when the authorities concerned insisted on implementing it, who am I as a person or unionist to stop the federal government or NPA from implementing the federal government policy."

He noted that even some people came to him and mandated him to stop the E-call Up, but he told them he had tried but his power was limited to what the union could do.

"As they felt they could not push me, to stop the E- Call up and by extension Nigerian Port Authority and federal government they ganged up against me saying the Maritime Workers Union haulage unit connived with NPA to extort them", Ugwu added.

Ugwu debunked all their allegations of multiple taxation and extortion insisting that what they pay is N5, 000 to N10, 000 Union fee which according to him is receipted and applicable throughout the federation.

On the lack of a welfare package for workers, the (MWUN) chief challenged them to come up with proof of anyone who was neglected in time of need.

"I challenge at least one person to come out with evidence that he has been neglected. Our members who are sick, we take care of them. We take them to hospitals for treatment and pay their bills. Those that lost their lives we gave them befitting burials and paid all their rights."

"Even those with permanent disabilities we have not turned our backs on them”
"Where is this allegation coming from all because of implementation of E- call up" queried?

"Maritime workers Union has nothing to do with the E-call system", Ugwu insisted.

Comrade Ugwu who displayed court judgement documents said that in 2021, some people also invaded the Ports trying to take over power but the union took them to court and won.

He said even the court told them that the Association lacked the power to unionize members but Trade unions.

Speaking further, Ugwu said, I challenge them to come out clean. Instead of disrupting business activities by blocking Port access roads and causing economic sabotage, why not channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters like the court or invite the police.

He however, cautioned his members not to engage in any act that would jeopardize the free flow of business activities at Onne Port insisting they should maintain decorum even in the face of provocation while calling anybody that is aggrieved to choose the part of dialogue to entrench peace at the Port.

“This direct call cuts out several layers of delay that importers have traditionally faced,” Scannavini said. “It means shorter transit times, more predictable arrival windows and significantly reduced freight costs for goods coming from China and the Far East. For agents, manufacturers and traders, this translates into a faster supply chain, more available cargo and an expansion of commercial opportunities. When bigger vessels call directly, the entire ecosystem benefits because economies of scale kicks in, and that stimulates jobs, competitiveness and growth.”

He said the benefits of direct calls to Onne from China and the Far East are extensive. They include reduced shipping time for consignments, lower freight charges, direct discharge of cargo without the delays associated with transshipment, and enhanced reliability for businesses awaiting critical inputs. According to him, the development is also expected to boost Nigeria’s non-oil trade profile and reinforce the attractiveness of the eastern ports to global carriers.

Scannavini also appealed to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to accelerate the completion of dredging works in the port of Onne and along the channel. According to him, the creation of a second turning basin and deeper draft access will allow even larger vessels to berth safely and will further cement Onne Port’s status as a strategic maritime hub for the South-South and the broader Eastern region.
MSC’s Regional Manager and Business Head for South-South and South-East Nigeria, Oscar Aguocha, described the maiden call of the MSC Dorine V as a strong demonstration of MSC’s long-term commitment to the Eastern Nigerian market, which he said has grown by 27 per cent year-on-year.

“With this direct service, consignees and agents can now receive their shipments from China and Eastern Asia in as little as 40 to 42 days,” Aguocha said. “We encourage businesses to take full advantage of this new corridor because it delivers speed, certainty and cost-efficiency in ways that were not possible before.”

Onne Multipurpose Terminal, operated by International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), is one of Nigeria’s most strategically positioned logistics gateways, serving the country’s offshore energy sector as well as import and export markets across the South-South and South-East. Over the years, OMT has recorded several notable achievements including the successful handling of some of the largest gearless vessels in the region, major upgrades to its terminal equipment, the expansion of yard facilities and the introduction of improved cargo-handling technology that has enhanced operational efficiency.
The terminal has also played a key role in repositioning the eastern ports by enabling faster cargo evacuation, reducing congestion in the Lagos corridor and attracting new international shipping services. Prior investments in cranes, terminal operating systems and workforce upskilling have placed OMT among the most modern and reliable multipurpose terminals in the country.

Wike and soldier faceoff: Publisher Calls for Training and Retraining of Aides to Government Officials

The publisher of the Beam News Magazine and National President of Citizens Quest For Truth Initiative, Chief Obiaruko Christie Ndukwe has emphasized the need for training and retraining of aides to government officials.

Chief Obiaruko while reacting to the faceoff between the FCT Minister – Wike and Military officer in Abuja today recalled that, “I remember the days of Dr Peter Odili as Gov how Ade Adeogun as CSO and Larry Lawrence Pepple as Chief Detail would get a security brief before their principal would embark on any visit - official or private. And if they advised him of imminent danger, risk or even embarrassment, he would listen, adding, the incident today calls for training and retraining of aides to government officials.

She said, “Nyesom Ezenwo Wike - CON, GSSRS being a peculiar Minister of the FCT ought to have aides who get first hand information before letting him move to any site, especially where the situation is challenging.”

According to her, “even though I know that Wike as a strong man would never rescind his decision to embark on any movement on grounds of threats, he cannot endanger his life just to prove strength, noting that, even President Tinubu had to cancel the October 1, Independence Day anniversary this year on suspected security threats.”

Not even the aides should be in harms way just to show bravado!” she cautioned

“This is one of the reasons why we have been heavily challenged by insurgency. Lack of intelligence!!”, she said

She commended the military officer who obeyed the last order of his boss as he acted professionally, not provoked and very disciplined!

“For the Minister, as a representative of the President, the shouting match with the officer was even more demeaning. He could have been caught up in an exchange of fire!” she noted

Concluding she said, my position is that the aides of the Minister should have advised him better! We need that show of power against the bandits and not against fellow combatants! May this not happen again.”

Comptroller Atuluku upped Revenue Generation at Customs Area 1 PH, Rakes in Historic N33.7B

The Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt Area I command, says it has generated historic revenue of over N33.7billion in the month of October 2025, surpassing the annual target with two months left in the year.

This disclosure was made by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku while briefing news men in her office weekend in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state Capital.

Comptroller Atuluku stated that it was with great pleasure to brief the press on her remarkable achievements recorded at the Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt Area I Command, particularly in the areas of revenue collection, trade facilitation, and enforcement of government fiscal policies.

She noted that the Command’s performance in the month of October 2025, and cumulatively from January to October 2025, reflected not just figures, but of dedication, reform, and collaboration.

She added that such demonstrated how, through teamwork and innovation, the Command has continued to promote legitimate trade, blocked revenue leakages, and contributed significantly to national development.

The customs Area 1 boss insisted “For the month of October 2025, the Port Harcourt Area I Command collected significant total revenue of 33.753 Billion Naira, as against N9.079 Billion Naira collected in the corresponding month of October 2024."

The amount, according to her, was the highest revenue collection in the history of the Command, and represented an extraordinary increase of about 272 percent, a record that stood as a testament to the command's collective commitment and the improved efficiency of its operational processes.

She emphasized that equally impressive was the Command’s cumulative revenue from January to October 2025, which stood at N247.461 Billion Naira, compared to N164.080 Billion Naira collected within the same period in 2024 which she said translated to a commendable growth of about 51 percent, demonstrating the Command’s steady and consistent Revenue generation increase

She averred that with the 2025 annual revenue target of N216 billion Naira and a monthly average target of B18.07 billion Naira, "I am pleased to inform you that as at October 2025, the Command has already surpassed its annual target by over N31 billion Naira, with two powerful ember months to go.”

The CAC emphasized that, “This achievement is not accidental. It is the result of strategic leadership, renewed operational discipline, and the unwavering dedication of officers and men under my watch.”

She maintained that one of the innovative tools that has greatly enhanced the command's revenue performance was the Unified Customs Management System popularly known as B' Odogwu, a digital analytics and monitoring platform designed to track, analyze, and optimize revenue collection processes.

She reiterated that through B'odogwu, her command has been able to identify bottlenecks, improve data accuracy, and ensure real-time revenue accountability.

This innovation, according to her, has greatly supported their drive towards operational transparency and efficiency.

Comptroller Atuluku added “We have also strengthened collaboration with stakeholders, including sister government agencies, to ensure that all processes are conducted with mutual respect, accountability, and understanding even as she insisted that their partnership with stakeholders has continued to yield positive results, in enhancing transparency, encouraging voluntary compliance, and reducing disputes at the port.

Furthermore, the Customs chief commended the officers and men of the Port Harcourt Area I Command for their integrity, and tireless efforts in delivering on their mandate.

"Despite operational challenges, they have demonstrated exceptional commitment to duty and embraced innovation in their daily assignments" Compt Atuluku said.

CrimeAdhoc Nations, Security And Leadership by NwaorguF(op): 9:56pm On Nov 10, 2025
By Dr Austin Orette

When Alhaji Lateef Jakande became governor of Lagos State in 1979, he was shocked at what he found and the challenges that the new leaders will grapple with. He found to his major dismay, that regardless of the pretentious and frenetic activities of the so-called military government of Nigeria, it can be authoritatively said that the government of Nigeria stopped in 1966.

Alhaji Jakande observed that everything the various military governors and military heads of state were doing was purely created for a particular purpose.

Nigeria has no system and process of governance that is transferable. Everything the military did in Nigeria was purely adhoc. Nigeria has no system of governance and continuity that is adhered to and followed by elected officials who make government policy.

There was no method and there was no formula and there were no processes. The soldiers just beat their way through the Nigerian forest and they call it governance.

If anyone should point this out at that time, the person is considered unpatriotic and an enemy of the state. So those who knew started leaving and the civil service became corrupt, directionless and hollow. Anything the soldiers did in Nigeria was through bravado and intimidation. They chose people and made them millionaires and billionaires. The rise to power and privilege did not depend on knowledge and contribution to progress.

Being a tailor or house girl to an army officer vaults you to a position of eminence and policy maker. As more of these emergency army ordained billionaires arrived, they brought their friends and relatives to enjoy the same privileges and Nigeria suffered.

Solution to problems no longer requires deep thinking and expert consultation. Solutions to national problems become simplistic. If there is crime, arrest the criminal and execute him and that will lower crime. If the big man is having issues with his neighbors, give him to the police to beat the guy up and guard him for twenty four hours and three hundred and sixty five days a year. If there is more crime, erect check points on every road. More crimes, more check points. What about sanitation? Go out and clean your streets yourself. The citizens are prisoners of the soldiers of fortune who have no interest or knowledge of governance and their main purpose is to save Nigeria from Nigerians so they can continue to plunder it with their loved ones.

At the height of the plunder, security of the nation becomes the protection of those who are plundering and destroying the nation. They are given bodyguards and more weapons and checkpoints and they tell us the security budget is increased and there is an increase in emoluments and titles of the entourage because we have an increased and improved security. They don’t ask about us because they are protecting the nation from us.

To the Nigerian leaders, security has always been about them, not us. The military protected themselves without their subordinates shooting them. Security against coup plotters is very strong. That is why not many coups were succeeding and drunken soldiers who could not find their way from the officers’ mess had more security than Nigerians because no coup against them succeeded.

So these folks wobbled the government and handed it over to their colleagues who were carrying their bags for them. Some of them even came back to continue the damage where they stopped.

This is the culture of the Nigerian leadership. What the so-called democratically elected people are doing is no different from the abuse the military subjected Nigerians to for more than fifty years. All the civilian leaders have their personal police and army providing security for them like their colleagues in the army used to have. The checkpoints are still there and people are still being slaughtered the way they used to. The only difference now is that instead of blaming the saboteurs, they will blame the rising crime and insecurity of their political opponents. They will agree to increase the number of checkpoints and appropriate more police for themselves.

My question is what is the correlation of security and check points? There is no study in Nigeria that shows any relationship between low crime rate and check points. Empirical observations may show that the more check points there are, the more crime in that area.

Is the police part of the criminals? The only method of security the quasi-military leaders know in Nigeria is kinetic.

Don’t be fooled by the Calvary of army, soldiers, Air Force, navy and agberos that parade those places. You could lose your life or property in those places without anyone coming to your aid.

I had a firsthand experience with lack of security at the Murtala Muhammad Airport in Lagos. All over the place are military personnel. That is not security. That only scares Nigerians who are not used to guns. The so-called security at the Murtala Muhammad Airport and other airports in Nigeria are nothing but intimidation force against the Nigerian citizens. Those soldiers have nothing to do with security. I can bet you that none of the things being done by these folks is prescribed by any law.

Everything is adhoc like the soldiers. These people only see security as the exchange of gunfire and the death of the culprit. This lacuna is very dangerous to society.

You can see in the Boko Haram fights, the leaders tell us a lot about body counts but there is no actual progress being reported. Visibility is not security. It is intimidation. You cannot intimidate someone who is capable and willing to cause harm.

A nation that cannot protect the lives and properties of its citizens cannot ascribe to anything else in our civilized world. Security is a very broad subject. Those who are elected to think are just like the mumu soldiers they replaced.

With the epidemic of insecurity and another nation threatening to invade us, I am aghast that our elected leaders have not seen it fit to address the Nation about the challenges we are facing and what the various governments are doing to improve the security situations in the different regions.

They are treating us the way the military did. Their police still beat us like the soldiers did.

One of the greatest contributors to insecurity is the lack of prosecution and punishment of criminals. It is easier to be a SAN than to prosecute someone who stole public money in Nigeria.

They don’t care about us. They care about their hold on power. They, like the military, want us to be afraid. At times like these, the citizens need to hear from their leaders about their proposed solutions.

Why is it that our leaders’ are silent as our nation faces one of its worst security disasters? We have come to see that most of these elected people have no capacity beyond being local champions. None of the Senators or House of Rep members could even pick up a phone and talk to their colleagues in the United States. None of them could jump on the plane and come to the US to conduct a press conference with his colleagues and clarify the issues that are being muddled up by Donald Trump and the Biafran Separatist, and use the occasion to impress on the congress and American people the geopolitical implication of the reckless disregard for Nigeria, the largest home for all Africans around the world.

Nigerians now know that leadership is beyond the politics of area boys. The worst thing that can happen to any nation is to be run by the military. No one should forget that the Nigerian military destroyed the civilian and intellectual heritage of Nigeria.

They triggered a civil war, and made mediocrity our way of life. What would Obasanjo have done if he had a third term? Would there have been an improvement? Buhari wasted eight ears. What was he actually fighting when he was campaigning to be president?

We cannot tell who is a good leader anymore because we are an adhoc nation. Leadership here does not require thinking. The army brought us here. We should never tolerate the overthrow of our civilian governance in this country. The military midwives are at it again. Instead of carrying out an offensive public relations campaign, these adhoc leaders are hoping and praying that Donald Trump will forget.

In America, people work like hell for prayers to be answered. Our leaders are not even preparing the citizens for any eventuality. This is the way an adhoc nation behaves.

Jakande lamented. Before he could dry his tears and roll his sleeves to work, the soldiers told us it was their turn again. The adhoc people came and took their government back. The world has moved on and we are back in the 50s. We need a task force. We are really back. I just saw a vehicle driving on the left side of the road.
