President Obama is to welcome his successor Donald Trump to the White House for talks aimed at smoothing over the transition of power.

It could prove a difficult meeting with Mr Trump having questioned Mr Obama's US citizenship and promising to dismantle some of his key policies.

Mr Obama though has said he is "rooting" for Mr Trump after his shock defeat of Hillary Clinton.

Thousands have taken to the streets of major US cities denouncing Mr Trump.

Mr Obama - who for his part had branded Mr Trump "unfit" for office and campaigned against him - urged all Americans to accept the result of Tuesday's election.

"We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country," he said.

The defeated Mrs Clinton also told supporters Mr Trump had to be given a "chance to lead".

Despite their calls, protesters gathered in several cities across the country. Many chanted: "Not my president."

In New York, thousands marched on Trump Tower, attacking his policies on immigration, gay rights and reproductive rights.

Fifteen people were arrested, the New York Times reported Protests were largely peaceful but in Oakland, California, some demonstrators smashed shop windows and threw missiles at riot police, who reportedly responded with tear gas

A mass anti-Trump rally shut down the key 101 freeway in Los Angeles

In Chicago, crowds blocked the entrance to Trump Tower, chanting: "No Trump, No KKK, No Fascists USA"

In Portland, Oregon, demonstrators temporarily closed an interstate highway

In Washington DC, protesters held a candlelit vigil. Organiser Ben Wikler told the crowd: "We are here because in these darkest moments, we are not alone"

Demonstrations also took place in Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle and San Francisco, among other cities.

In his victory speech in the early hours of Wednesday, Mr Trump vowed to "bind the wounds of division", after an acrimonious election contest, and to be "president for all Americans".

White House spokesman Josh Earnest has insisted Mr Obama will be sincere about ensuring a smooth handover when he meets Mr Trump, although he added: "I'm not saying it's going to be an easy meeting."

With the Republicans holding a majority in both chambers of the US Congress Mr Trump has an easier path to pass his laws and scrap key Obama initiatives like his healthcare reforms.

The president-elect will be accompanied to the White House on Thursday morning (1600 GMT) by his wife, Melania, who will have a meeting with First Lady Michelle Obama.

Mr Obama, who congratulated his successor in a phone call in the early hours of Wednesday, said it was "no secret" that he and Mr Trump had pretty significant differences.

But he added that "we all want what's best for this country" and he was "heartened" by what he heard in Mr Trump's remarks the night before.

The meeting will take place behind closed doors. The two men are then expected to appear together for the cameras in the Oval Office.

Mr Trump's transition team for the 10-week period until inauguration will be led by Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey.

The president-elect, who has never held elected office, has said his immediate priorities will be restoring the country's infrastructure and doubling its economic growth.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said: "Donald Trump is taking this very seriously," adding that the business mogul's deal-making ability would enable him to quickly "make things happen for the American people".

Troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, led by the General Officer Commanding of the Division, conducted a decisive clearance operation into the remnants of Boko Haram strategic hub town of Chukungudu on the southern fringes of the Lake Chad Region, northern parts of Borno State between Friday 4th and Saturday 5th November 2016.

The maneuvering Brigade led by 3 Battalion of 22 Brigade, successfully cleared Geram, Bulankassa and Chukungudu believed to be the Boko Haram terrorists stronghold in that area.

The gallant troops rescued 85 people, comprising of mostly women and children held hostage by insurgents.

Similarly, they neutralized 5 Boko Haram terrorists fighters in a fierce encounter that made several of the terrorists running into the Lake Chad waters.

The troops recovered 4 rounds of Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs, 1 Double Barrel Gun, 349 packets containing various rounds of ammunitions, 3 Magazines, a link belt of machine gun ammunition and 1 AK-47 rifle magazine.

During the clearance operations, the troops made spectacular discovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making factory at Geram.

In the factory, they found several already primed suicide bombers’ vests. They also discovered a well equipped motor vehicles and motorcycles’ workshop and spare parts where house at Chukungudu village.

The troops recovered 3 vehicles and several newly acquired motorcycles.

Unfortunately, a soldier died during the encounter.

In line with Rules of Engagement, IED factory, vehicles and motorcycles were destroyed.

A Kogi state polytechnic lecturer, who is also the Computer Science head of department, allegedly slapped one of his students and she fainted last Wednesday. A Nigerian, Mohammed A. Halilu, shared the story:
"Mr A A Zubairu (HOD computer science kogi state polytechnic Lokoja). Is at again!! The picture there shows the student assaulted by HOD computer science this morning.

The student fainted and was hospitalized in the the kogi poly clinic after receiving a heavy slap from A A Zubairu whose steady habit is to be slapping student at any slight chance.

It was all tears at Ekwulumili, yesterday, in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State when six children of same parents who died of food poisoning were buried.

Chukwuebuka, 17; Chinemerem, 15; Afomachukwu, 13; Chekwubechukwu, 11; Onyekachukwu, 9 and Chukwuziterem, 7 died in a mysterious circumstance on July 15, 2016. Their parents said they died of what was suspected to be food poisoning.

Parents of the deceased children, Apostle and Mrs. Oramalu were able to comport themselves during the burial which was officiated by members of Brotherhood of Cross and Star.

The officiating priest, Bishop Michael Anene in his sermon pronounced a curse on the perpetrators of “the dastardly act”. He said that someone must have been behind the death of the children but that whoever did it should expect the grave consequences of his or her action.

He cited several portions of the Bible to buttress his pronouncement, saying “woe betide the killers of the children and it would have been better the person was not born than to have committed the act.”

Bishop Anene used the opportunity to dismiss the impression some people had about his religious sect which he said had nothing to do with secret society, not being Bible based or a cult.

He said his religious denomination preached the Lord Jesus Christ and love for one another and had nothing secret about its profession contrary to some people’s views, adding that it was out of ignorance that some people create the impression that his religious sect never read the Bible.

The mother of the deceased children, said she had submitted to the will of God as far as the death of her children was concerned.

She however called on the government on the need to properly unravel the killer of her children “but where that is not possible, let God who has been taking control continue to fight for the family.”

She also called on the government to come to the family’s aid by awarding her last child who survived the incident scholarship as a way of nurturing the family’s only hope.

She said some of the deceased had even chosen careers “Chinemerem said he would be an engineer and he started showing that because he could dismantle a generator or radio and recouple it. Some others said they would be doctors and lawyers. Afoma came second in an examination in the entire Nnewi South,” she said.

The father of the deceased children, Apostle Oramalu said that he could name the killers of his children based on investigation so far, “even though they are accusing me of using my children for rituals. How can that be? The children I suffered to beget and nurture. Why should somebody have that thinking? He queried, adding that the family would pursue the matter to a logical conclusion.

This early Saturday, October 29 morning has turned sour for Maiduguri residents as two bomb blasts have been reported in the Borno state capital.

According to Premium Times, an official of the Civilian-JTF, Alhaji DanBatta, has confirmed the two blasts. The first of which occurred at 7 am at a coffee drinking spot near the Bakassi IDP camp, along the popular Maiduguri-Biu road.

Yunus Musa, a resident of the area, said:
“Six persons were reportedly killed in the blast and have been evacuated to the hospital.”

The second blast occurred at about 7.35 am, near the NNPC fuel depot along Damboa Road, killing a woman and a tricycle rider. It is not immediately clear if the bomber was the woman, or the tricycle driver.

The twin blasts occurred about 1km apart and the exact number of casualties is still being collated. Alhaji DanBatta, said that the first blast came from suicide bombers who were trying to invade Bakassi IDP camp, one of the largest displaced persons camp in Maiduguri.

DanBatta claims the attack could have been far worse, as he said:
“We have another sad day today, but we thank God the worst did not happen; because the suicide bombers actually wanted to enter Bakassi camp, and that could have been really bad.

“There was another one just opposite the NNPC Depot along Damboa Road. But I cannot give you the details of the casualties recorded immediately because we are presently conveying the victims to the hospital. I will get back to you when the doctors confirm their conditions.”

This is the first bomb blast in months, since May 2016 when a bomb blast hit the state secretariat in Maiduguri . At least four people were killed in the bomb blast.
