Fonsi was born on April 15, 1978 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as the eldest child of Alfonso Rodríguez and Delia “Tata” López-Cepero. He has two younger siblings: Jean Rodríguez, who is also a singer, and Tatiana Rodríguez.

Growing up, Fonsi showed signs that the music would direct his life – as a child he mimicked the stars of the popular group Menudo, [1] and joined the San Juan Children’s Choir.

After living on the mainland of the United States for a month, Fonsi spoke English without a hint of accent. He attended Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida, and participated in a group called “Big Guys”. They sang at school festivals and local festivals. One of the group’s members, Joey Fatone, later joined * NSYNC.
